What is your favorite anime (japanese animation)? Talk About it!

hi everyone.

i was just wondering, what are your guy's favorite anime? The reason i ask, is that most asian people i know love anime (and also a lot of non-Asian people). Anime (for those that dont know) is a form of japanese animation, drawn in a distinctive japanese-y style. Nowadays, i believe it has surpassed new american cartoons in terms of popularity (but not the old classics: Bugs bunny, Wile E Coyote and sylvester rule!!!). For example, many people seem to be infatuated with Dragon Ball Z (i have no idea why, cuz theres plenty of other and better action anime).

Anyway, heres my favorite anime. Ill split them into groups

Action
- Yu Yu Hakusho (they show this cut version on Cartoon Network. Its much more exciting in DBZ, and the cut version ain't half bad)
- Flame of Recca (a Yu Yu Hakusho like cartoon...hell, the characters are almost the same! Action is pretty good, godd stuff)
- Cowboy Bebop (good anime, kind has this "old school" feel to it. The main character's villain is kinda like Sephiroth ^^)

Romantic/Comedy
- Love Hina (this i believe is one of the more popular anime's. Good quality, very funny, highly recommended)
- Fruits Basket (VERY good quality anime, about the 12 animals of the zodiac and this girl, pretty funny)
- Oh My Goddess! (kinda like Love Hina, cept the girl is a Goddess - go figure! Very funny, and has a good ending)

Adventure
- Hunter x Hunter (one of my favorite anime's ever! A good story, wonderful animation, and one of the best anime intro songs ever! neither too gory, tells a story about a boy with a pure heart!)
- Slam Dunk (0ld school basketball anime, watch for fans of basketball)

Oooh, my favorite anime in the whole WORLD is definitely fruits basket! Everything is so cute and i love the characters. I also really like Ultra Maniac - it's about this little girl who's a witch, except that she sucks at doing spells and stuff. And she goes to the human world where she interacts with others and everything.. great anime, AND there's romance involved! :)

Another favorite is Kenshin - it's incredibly long (100+ eps) but you can stop halfway and you'll get the gist of everything haha. Lots of funny parts. it's action though.. and Kenshin's a 'battousai' - samurai kind of dude. There are also 2 OVAs of Kenshin (4 parts each) that are pretty good too!

Love Hina was good... but you should read the manga! The manga puts the show to shame... I actually read the manga first, and the show seemed so bad that I couldn't watch more than 4 episodes.

I *HATED* Ah! My Goddess? It was cute, romantic, and everything... BUT, their depiction of the 'perfect woman' is absolutely atrocious. According to AMG, not only is the perfect woman naive, blindingly beautiful, and ready to take your EVERY command, but apparently she has to be a goddess who grants your wishes and saves your life too.
Don't you think that's a bit degrading? They make the perfect woman a perfect slave... I hate that.

Yummie: You know, I have several friends who love Fruits Basket... I've always wanted to see it myself, if not only for the super-cute, super-pretty opening song! The sad thing is, I can actually change my voice to sing in that sort of voice ^____^

My personal faves... very hard choice. I love the theme of love and tragedy, so my divine three goes out to:

X 1999: By CLAMP! Kamui is given the choice to alter the fate of the world... but no matter what he chooses, his childhood friend Fuuma will choose the opposite, and their battle is imminent. This is a story of epic proportions, "you can still love after death", and an interesting study on fate no less than a great classic like Oedipus. VERY sad, VERY violent, VERY emotional.

Kanon: It's currently a fad right now, but I loved it before it became a fad :P It's actually based on a hentai game that turned into a dating sim... Yuuichi returns to the town where he spent his childhood, but has no recollections of it. He doesn't remember anyone, but everyone remembers him. One day, he bumps into a girl called Ayu, and as he dreams, his memories come back to him and he remembers the shocking secret of his childhood and what this small town is hiding in its past. OMG. This anime made me go depressed for at least half a year. I'm still feeling the romantic idealism from it!

Gundam 08th MS Team: It was either this, or 0079, but I think overall this one takes the cake. It's a gritty, realistic portrayal of war. People die. People get hurt. But what happens if you fall in love with someone on the other side of the war? If they were both just soldiers, that might not be much. But if a soldier falls in love with a high ranking officer and aristocrat... what can you do? Fight? By far the most entangling war story I've seen so far. Beautiful :D

Not much of an anime fanatic. I prefer manga as I don't have the time to watch half an hour anime every weekday. But I was totally OBSESSED with Slam Dunk for a particular period of time, end of 2002 and first half of 2003. In fact, I'm still quite crazy over it. Must've read the manga ten over times and watched the (rather choppy) anime ten over times too. It's just fantastic, very funny, never fails to cheer me up, and of course, Mitsui Hisashi is my soulmate. :)

The onli anime I watch is Fruits Basket. Only 1 coz its hard for me to get addicted watching anime. Even though, I watched Fruits Basket halfway, it had me wanting to watch more because of the characters plus their attitudes. And I just love Honda Tohru's character. :) Basically...the whole anime is cute... :wink2:

Or Azumanga Daioh. The randomness and hilarity of it never ceases to amaze me.

Even though I used to watch a lot of anime, I still prefer reading manga instead. My favorite series being Rurouni Kenshin, Houshin Engi, and Slam Dunk!

hehe, i read the Love Hina manga too, scarletwillow. only the first three volumes though--that series is a bit too ecchi for me :angel: saw the spring special of the anime though (heehee, i know whether they got accepted into Toudai!) AMG was such a boring anime and manga, it was basically the same thing over and over in a different setting. I only liked the movie.

gee i didnt know so many people liked fruits basket! i have the whole series...its so cute ^_^ i love the theme song, i had all my anime buddies addicted to it for several weeks.
i dont really have ONE favorite, i like Full Moon wo Sagashite, Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi no Ceres, Ranma 1/2, Escaflowne, Marmalade Boy, and the list goes on and on....mostly shoujo type of stuff though :D i've only seen a few eps of Rurouni Kenshin, but i liked it a lot--

:whistle: never get to watch much of anything, of late. its most unfortunate, but still--since we started this Oriental Appreciation club at school, i've been burning copies (blah, i feel guilt, but they were booties anyways) of my friends anime, and making copies of mine for them too :wink2:

ya, neon genesis evangelion is pretty cool. that one episode where he's like confused, and its all about his mind is soooo freaky (ep 17 maybe)?

i kno manga is always better than anime, but its hard gettin manga around here. Manga is always more scandalous, graphic, funny, and violent than most of the animated shows in my opinion.

the episode where u see the flashback of when his arm turns into that huge gun, and destroys that whole town, blew me away. It finally puts into perspective to why he's such a wanted criminal. overall, the only deep anime i like are romantic/comedy ones. Action ones i prefer to have just straight up action. Love and stuff complicates it a lil too much.

oh, keke. talking about animes... I'm a real anime fans apart from Jay keke. I love all kind of animes. It's really ALL kind!!! But, the thing is... i can't afford to buy all of them keke. After seeing that everything else just PALES in comparison.

If you guys don't know what's Fushigi Yugi... its about these 2 girls. Whose sucked into a book and one of the girl is a priestess of Suzuka (which is the good side) and her friend is the pristess of Seiryu (which is the bad side) and the pristess of Suzaka has to find the 7 constellations. And so on... :wink2:

a lot of anime can be found online, using IRC to download them. If you live at school (ex. college), most colleges have an internal LAN than usually has a lot of anime and other stuff on there, cuz people have been uploading it.

its called Fushigi Yugi. I don't tihnk that's on tv but they have the comic book. Its really good! :happy:

i love that anime, watched it from the beginning to the end when AXN screened it two years ago. i have two fave characters: the first is Hotohori, he's in love with miaka but in the end he fell in love with his wife(who look like Nuriko's double!!!) my second is tasuki because of his flaming fan. he's a funny character. nuriko is not bad either, miaka actually turn the crossdresser into a man. did you watch the OVA? it's very sad but with a happy ending. it's takes off right after the series (52 episode i believe) the ova has 9 episode. miaka has to gather the memories of tamahome past so he can live in the real world with the help of 6 other warriors and at the same time stop a megalomaniac who wanted the power of the 4 gods so he can be a god himself. i don't understand why 6 of them fell in love with Miaka, because she's such a weakling and she's a glutton!

BUT my all time fave anime is SAIYUKI. the story is based on Journey to the west legend only there are added twists to the story. i've watched Gensomaden saiyuki but still waitung for saiyuki reload in english. my fave character is Genjyo sanzo, the i-take-no-s***-from-no-one monk. i like the humour and the level of trust among the members.

I saw Gunnm the anime, and it was decent. Not all that bloody as I expected... I dun like the animation/drawing style, though.

I have a feeling Blame! is a far bloodier manga than Gunnm. Same genre... cyberpunk, but this stuff is probalby as hardcore. Lotsa body parts flying around, hehe, but very interesting plot. LQP download site is hosting it, if you wanna join anytimes soon... wink wink :)

Has anyone watched Full Metal Alchemist? Has anyone? I didn't even know about it until my friend told me that one of my favorite bands plays the opening song. It's actually a pretty good anime despite it's creepy factor. (It's not CREEPY CREEPY but some of the episodes are just "...O.O")

I think at this moment, my favorite anime is Peace Maker Kurogane. The ending was sort of blah and I probably need to watch Kenshin to understand the history of Japan and the shogun, but I love Episode 15. IT'S SO FUNNY! The amount of crack it took for the writers to come up with that one. Dude. XD

I love full metal alchemist! Can't wait for episode 26!!!! Its not really creepy is it? Just a few parts are a lil O_o.... but its really touching. It almost made me cry :cry: I think its one of the best anime i've ever seen, although i haven't seen much.

Anime, huh? In my school, there are many 'anime-haters'; they all think it's childish. I'm still the #2 anime otaku (freak) in my school...Despite all the insults I receive because of my 'status'.
Ook, now let me answer the topic's question... I don't have any favourite anime because I get over my obsessions with them very easily. But Tonari no Totoro has always been my #1. I've watched it when I was maybe 3-4 years old, and up until now; I still like it. ^-^ Basically, I like all of Hayao Miyazaki's anime... My #2 would be Hunter X Hunter (I swept away my whole grade with my obsessions of it last year)
Then there's some anime I like/Okay with: Love Hina, Cardcaptor Sakura (liked it a few years ago), Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam W, Gundam Seed, Ranma 1/2 (Even though I find it really :wacko:) and there's more but too long to list...
I watched Initial D (Haven't seen 3rd stage yet) and it was okay; but cars and stuff is not really one of my faves. And right now, I'm currently watching One Piece. =P

Actually, I think I like the manga of Fruits Baskets better than the anime. The love triangle was so odd. And it didn't really make sense. I suppose it's because I don't really like the main character with Kyou or Yuki. O.o

EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH FULL METAL ALCHEMIST!

It's a really sad story and it deals with alchemy and the science behind it. (Smonkkey, did you hear? HUGHES DIED IN EPI 25!!! T.T) Also has a lot about humanity and the value of life. Oh and the main bad guys are the seven sins, so FMA gets more points becuase of that. XD~

I have no idea what Kanon is but I LOVE X if you're talking about the one made by Clamp. I haven't watched the anime, but I've read most of the manga, so I know just about everything that's going to happen. I hope that they don't all get killed by the end of the series or anything. O.o;;

ISN'T PEACEMAKER COOL??? I LOVE that anime. It's so funny. Have you watched episode 15 yet? That episode is SO funny. you really need to watch it. The sheer amount of CRACK the writers had to be on to think of that one. :laughing:

Hikaru no go is also a really good anime/manga/what have you. I had issues with the manga though. Serious issues. Thre is NO end to it whatsoever and I was mad. Extremely mad. (And HOW DID HIKARU NOT NOTICE WHAT HAPPENED TO SAI FOR SO LONG???)

I still can't get over what happened to Hughes. And my friends have watched Episode 26 and it seems that nothing has happened yet. Which could mean the whole thing was pointless. Which will make me SO ANGRY because Hughes was the COOLEST.

X was fantastic...i kept trying to guess who would win at the end but i couldn't figure it out till near the very end...and the music! the music is just fantastic! right up there with Noir and .Hack :happy:

Farfie tells me that she didn't like X though, after reading the manga, cuz the story moved too slow in the anime. I liked it, but I never read the manga. I personally think that X should've been longer than 20-something eps, because I thought it all happened too fast.

And Kanon...
Yeah, it's a really really childish looking romance anime, but it's actually a lot more mature than that.

Well, it started as a hentai game, but it was underage girls anyways. It was rereleased without the hentai, into a dating sim. Then rereleased again or something like that...

hey i liked it how they killed one off each episode...gives you something to look forward to each time! j/ks...its good in a sense that you know in each episode there will always be some kind of conflict...and a mini resolution...

thats what i didn't like about Neon Genesis Evangelion...some episodes were just...crud...

Hmmmm....I think I have TOOO many favorite anime I may have taken up a whole page to write them all :dry: ...Hmm...so first on my list of course, Is Ghostfighter (it was the first anime I ever watched) and then there's Flame of Recca, Gundam Series, Sailormoon, Wedding Peach (Ok, so I know these anime sucks but as I've said, I watch almost every anime so I don't care :bleh: ) And then there's Marionette, Uhmmm...Cardcaptors, Maho Tsukai Tai, Bakuretsu Hunters, Magic Knight Rayearth, DETECTIVE CONAN!!! I have the manga for the first series, the second series "Last Order" is already up to the 4th book now, i think. I have never seen the anime though. But i like the story, how she went on her journey to recall her memory, and then made it up to the city up there.

I just finished Fruit Basket and i like it. The characters are really cute and funny. I like how Shigure always tease his editor and make her cry. :laughing: And Ayame, haha, the story on how he keep his long hair in school is hilarious~ The only thing i don't like is the ending, as if the story is not completed. Maybe i should try reading the manga and find out more.

The other anime that i have finished watching is "Samurai Deeper Kyo", it's not as good compared to the manga, since many characters from the manga are left out. But of course, most anime cannot stick to the manga completely so i have to accept that.

So it is one of my favorites, but I also like anime like Pretear, Fruits Basket, and Soul Hunter, because they are all so funny. Well, my favorite must be Slam Dunk! I really love it! :excited: Not only because of the handsome Rukawa and Mitsui, but more important is that I love basketball like crazy! Oh if you want a summary on a certain anime what I tend to do is go to Amazon.com and just read the summary they give for the DVD or the Manga of the show you want, they are pretty accurate. Fungi, they are coming out with a FMA movie!! My favorite anime would be Evangelion which is the greatest anime series of all times. One reason why I like this and why it's so particulary outstanding from all the other anime series, is because of the characters who are not everyday anime protagonists. Each character seem to have their own problems and have to deal with it while battle angels. Shinji has his insecurity and his need to make his father proud, Asuka seems like a arrogant 14-year old, but inside, she's still insecure as shinji, because of her childhood having a mentally disabled mother..

Well, basically most of the main characters have to deal with their own problems..and the series is just great!

one of the most moving animes ive be exposed to was Naruto (lol, is getting pretty overated now). i read the manga first, and i rreeeeallly likeed it. personally i like the manga more than the eps cuz they just kept having flashbacks and laggging wit the same sttupid things over again. but fighting scenes were much more comprehendable! lol

I've watched different anime and I like the best Full Metal Alchemist (ep. 18) LOL I started to watch it two weeks ago -___- Naruto (ep. 134) The Eternity You Wish For (finished the first season) and I've seen Rurouni Kenshin "Samurai X" Dvd collection that consists of 6 episodes of pure emotion xD It's good.

favourite anime.....ever since a year or two ago when my brother started d/l anime, ive been watching it any chance i get. he's even calculated what i do on the computer....he said its 35% watching anime, 35% on forums, 15% checking emails and 15% chatting to people....LOL
so....getting back to the topic.
best anime ive watched so far is INITIAL D!!! cant get enough of it!! and now that Jay starred in the first movie, even better!!! but honestly, i dont think anything can beat the original manga/anime series. and it doesnt seem like there are many members here who are fans of the original series. it just seems that a lot of you's have only become interested in Initial D because Jay starred in the leading role of the movie but i dont blame ya's. this forum, after all, is about Jay.

The best animes have to be Dears, Beck, Naruto, Bleach and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.

Beck has a lot of nice songs on it too, seldom see a whole anime dedicated to a rock band theme.

Naruto was really nice at the beginning however the sasuke part was really draggy.

Dears is a super cute and funny anime with gorgeous aliens however the romance part is lacking in the anime and it ended without a conclusion.

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu is just super funny, really brightens your day if your are feeling sad. Expect lots of ridiculous antics.

Because i love it so much im gonna try explaining it.

Bleach

Ichigo Kurosaki has been able to see ghosts for as long as he can remember.
One day he sees a *Hollow chasing a friend of his who is a ghost and helps her get away. The same day while cotemplating what that Monster was a Spirit reaper or *Shinigami steps into his room through the wall.
He demands to know who She is but she ignores him so he hits her.
The Shinigami is so suprised that he can see her let alone touch her that she explaisn to Ichigo about Spirit Reapers and a Place called "Soul Society" which is kinda like heaven... i guess....
After this long explaniation where she draws sucky ass pictures a Hollow.. The same one from earlier attack Ichigos family and the Shinigami whos name is Rukia try to protect them.. and she gets hurt badly.
So in order to Save his family and Rukia, Ichigo takes Rukia's powers as a Shigami and slay the Hollow easily.

*Hollow is a negative ghost that feeds of souls
*Shinigami is a soul reaper that reaps Hollows and sends loner souls to soul society

I've watched several animes but..

Ultra Maniac is one of my faves because the story is so adorable. And they deviate from the manga, but in a good way. Usually animes drastically change their plots. And for a romance-magic-comedy, it's good.

Gunsligner Girl is also adorable, despite the fact it's violent. Perhaps because I watched it during my English Literature year, I started to analyze it and it says a lot about relationships with people and people's places in the world.

Honey and Clover is something my friends and I sorta related to, with the whole college aspect and relations with people you care about. I never got to watch all of the pretty long series, but if it's something you can relate your life to, Honey and Clover is really good.

Those are my three favorite animes for three different categories. :)

Hmm right now I'm watching Death Note and Kanon. Death note seems pretty fantastic so far. I wonder why they remade Kanon though when the story is exactly the same as the original. Well episode one of the new Kanon series has Canon in D as one of its bgm and that's what attracted me I guess.

My favourite anime is Spirited away. It's the first anime that i've ever seen. But I 'll never forget it.
it make me think about environment, about people.
I like Hayao Mihazaki and his anime.

i think my all time fave would have to be FRUITS BASKET! i cried buckets of tears while watching that. haha. but then i also enjoyed other anime series like Hunter X Hunter, Flame of Recca, Full Metal Alchemist, NARUTO and BLEACH (although i'm not yet done with the last 2) oh and KENSHIN and SLAM DUNK and INITIAL D too! haha, basically, TOO MANY TO MENTION :) LOL

hmm.. my favorite anime/manga by far is Detective Conan, but Fruits Basket is a very close second favorite, especailly when i'm reading its manga. plus I'm such a Tohru/Kyo shipper

another favorite is Fullmetal Alchemist.. i just love how the anime diverges away from the manga purely awesome!

another old favorite is Kodocha, it's so funny and then deep at the same time. it's a great anime for shoujo lovers (such as myself)

currently though, i am watching La Corda d'Oro beautiful anime about music and love, it's kinda like a reverse harem with three guys obviously crushing on one girl. the soundtrack is awesome, so many classical music, even has Canon in D!

My top favourite anime is of course Gundam Seed!:-) Whoo! It rocks!:bleh: Kyaa!:D Kira and Athrun!:D

But Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden (aka Naruto Hurricane Chronicles) are coming pretty close. They're sorta tied. Naruto Shippuuden is so intense! Full of tension, excitement, action, laughs, and whole ton more!:tongue:

The Twelve Kingdoms (Juuni Kokki) is excellent!:happy: Though, Youko is annoying in the very beginning she turns better and cool. Enki is my favourite in this series.

Prince of Tennis (Tennis No Oujisama) is really good! Ryoma, Eiji, and Fuji are my favourites, though I like all of the Seigaku regulars (except for Inui, he's ok).

1.) Full Metal Panic - Sousuke is hilarious. Fumoffu!
2.) Ouran High School Host Club - Commoner coffee!
3.) The Melacholy of Haurhi Suzumiya - This anime was so messed up, but the ending was cute. I won't give out spoilers. :x
4.) Ghibli films - Laputa, The Cat Returns...classics.
