i think most of us here have heard Jay appearance in Jolin new hit "Hai Dao"...maybe some of you may not know that the guy rapping in the song is actually Jay..he purposely make his voice sound so low..but very cute isn't it... :wink2:
but i have to say that Jolin really make a mess of the song, same for jiu shi ai....she is a spoliter... :-x
so you guys here..wat you all think of Jay change of music style in Hai Dao , he actually have his voice so low...

 oh no.... Jay's raping again?!?! somebody stop him... doesn't he know he's got many young fans? bad role model... tsk tsk
and his choice of girl? Jolin :glug: erm... how can he be raping jolin... something wrong with his eyes? Too much testosterone to thing? twisted sense of judgement? how can anyone want to do that to jolin...
oh... wait... it's raping in Jolin's new hit... hmm... is it a pretty girl featured in the MV and not jolin? :excited: ah... must be it... jay has better taste.
but Jay's really into raping ain't it... he's always doing it... maybe he needs counselling... but perhaps that's the secret to his good physique :?

HAHAHHAHAHAHA
this'll be a good way to mislead people into checking out this thread!!!! hahahahahha
i had a double-take when i saw that....coz for some warped reason (in line with the pirate theme) that somehow SOMEHOW there was some scene in the Hai Dao mv that i missed.....
i watched the mv earlier -- the first ever jolin mv that i watched. i think she looked better as the guy than as the girl....
thats still not to say that i thought she looked good....
i'll go check out the song again....

Jay's raping has definitely improved. He's now raping at a 12th grade level. But I feel he may be forcing his rapes a little, I mean he should just go with the flow and do his rapes naturally. He should rape so smooth and so fast like he did in his Fantasy days. If he continues raping his rapes as if he's some super raping rape artist like this, it would only lose it's luster. Rape your rapes naturally Jay! And no need to lower your voice to suit the rape. We recognize that raping voice when we raping hear it. Raping rapity rapes.

yah I agree with you... raping low ain't nice... just can't experience the "high" from the rapes at all... it's like when Jay rape the old way, it makes us feel the groove and all...
but at least Jay is exploring new ways to rape... that's good... don't you think?

Lmao hahahaha lololol...
you guys crackd me up...omg! I'm stomachaching right now!!
I like it so much when he's raping!! It's so flow and smooth. He knows where he should do it slow or fast...man! I love his raping.
Especially in "Hai Dao", his raping was changed so much, but I still love it. It was such a sexy raping...Jolin was so lucky though!
[edit] : oh..you've changed your topic when I posted.
So..okie...raping = rapping :laughing:

You must not have read the piece of news about three college girls who raped a high school boy whom they thought looked like Jimmy Lin. It was back in the mid-90s when Jimmy Lin was really popular. Oh, and it happened in Taiwan.

oh.. :glug: oh... that's a lil' erm... extreme... what has the world come to
xJayChoux mei, I think Jay is doing it slow and steady... raping skills mature with age... and with lots of experience in raping, he'd know which way he wants best... doesn't rush through with raping like in ninja or something... maybe it's good for us fans... we can learn how to rape with him now that he does it a little slower
okie, enough of my lil' mischievous act... I know I am being mean... I'll stop it here...

i think jay rapped great in hai dao! but i gotta admit that i didn't really recognize his rapping the first time i heard hai dao...i was like...is that jay?? yup....he's sorta like going against the natural...it's not his rapping style, but somehow it's just rap/music to my ears!!! the more i listen to it..the more i like it!! i don't know if he has improved....because u can't really compare it...cuz it's a different style...but if i were asked to compare his rapping in hai dao..and in his previous hits...i'd definitely say his older songs win over hai dao! cuz!!! u can never follow his rapping in older songs....but instead....u can hella follow him as he raps along.....i think....it's cuz...THANKS TO JOLIN"S SINGING SKILLS!!!! jay sound kinda weird...that it's not really rapping to me....he just like talking in a make believe/fake voice.....but still good!!! because of jay....i have to tolerate jolin's singing in hai dao!!! aya...!!!

does jay really rap?
from my point of view, what you guys call "rap" isn't really "rap". I live in the US, and if you compare "rappers" such as chingy, 50 cent, eminem to jay, one can immediately tell that there exists a BIG difference.
Jay's rapping is more like sininging without a tune
i guess real chinese "rap" would be something liek MC Hotdog o Jeff Huang.

I see pirates have taken up raping as their new hobby. wahaha jay raping again.. same thing as last time.. easily mispelt words :)
Yea I also didn't recognise that it was Jay rapping in Hai Dao... The voice sounded so deep..

I think Jay does rap; I mean, it's not what you would call hardcore or anything. Maybe what jay does would be like.. "soft rap".. cuz i know why you would think he doesn't really rap. It's not like he's shouting with anger or something like that. But I think most people say that he raps because there aren't that many Chinese singers that sing like him, so to most people in Asia, that's rap. I think.. i'm not really sure, so no one get angry at me! Anyway, some good examples of his rapping is Dad I'm back (Ba Wo Hui Lai Le) and Nunchucks (Shuang Lian Gun)

We also called Vanilla Ice a rapper when he came out. So there is inconsistency within our own musical circle by your definition. Since Ice Ice Baby isn't exactly the same kind of rap Eminem would do.
Definition courtesy of UrbanDictionary.com
A form of popular music developed especially in African-American urban communities and characterized by spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics with a syncopated, repetitive rhythmic accompaniment.
A composition or performance of such music.
musical application of poetry, usually associated with the hardships of life and emotional grievances. Started up as early as the Beats (i.e. Kerouac and Cassidy) began using more experimental forms of poetry, and since has transgressed into modern pop and underground culture.
Whether Jay raps depends on what song you're talking about.
Without a doubt, Jay definitely raps in Ba Wo Hui Lai Le (Dad I'm Back). Some of his other songs, like Same Kind of Tune (Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao) I wouldn't consider rap, but rather he sings fast with a melody like you said.

I think Jays rapping in "Hai dao" was cool... although i must say that i didn't reconize jays voice in the rapping at first.... but still i think his rapping is sort of unique compared to Other rappers e.g Eminem....

The first page of this thread really cracks me up. All only because of the letter "p" . There's really a big difference in raping and rapping.
So anyway, I don't think what Jay did in Hao Dao is considered rapping, though. In Ba Wo Hui Lai Le, Shuang Jie Kun, Long Quan, Ti Tian, San Nian er Ban, Square of Prague, Knight's Spirit, Jay definately did rap. But in Hai Dao... I wouldn't considered that a rap (even though it sounds like one), because you can hear that Jay carries some tunes in there.
But his voice gave me quite a surprise. The first time I heard Hai Dao, I never thought it was Jay. And even after I found out that it was Jay who sings there... I had to listen a couple more times to really believe it. I guesss I finally believed it was really Jay after hearing how he pronounces certain words. But anyway, ...he sounded very different there. I never thought his voice could go THAT low.

 Okay, I've been meaning to post here quite a while already. Haha, all you people made me laugh so badly. Just one single letter changed everything.
So anyways, the first time I heard the song- I didn't realize anything. I just thought it was some guy rapping. Then some time later, on the radio, I heard the song again and this time they said that Jay was in it rapping.
I was like O_O, I couldn't tell it was him- until after listening to it for a few times. Amazing how low his voice can go, isn't it? Hehe, but really, I think it doesn't sound much like 'rapping'... I don't know what it is, but in my opinion, it's not rapping. ^___^

I think Jay used special effects to get his voice that low.
His voice around 3:10 minutes sounds fake.
Like a machine lowered his voice.

I like Jay's regular singing voice better. I think this low thing is really cool but sometimes it creeps me out. Especially the "La la la la" part. *shudders* Maybe I just need some time to get used to it.

*Agrees*.I got to listen to the song for the 1st time yesterday while i was tuning to a chinese radio station. At 1st i wasnt really sure it was Jolin's Hai Dao (i dont really listen to Jolin so i couldnt really recognise her voice, and the Jay's voice in it isnt the usual Jay's voice we hear).Somehow,i waited until the song ended and then i heard the DJ said "Ok..that was Jolin's new song,Hai Dao".Ahh...it's confirmed the guy who raps(?) in the song is Jay!Yea...actually i kinda dislike the "la la la" part.Jay sounds like an indian man doing the la la thing! Anyway,i think the song itself has some "Bollywood" effects in it.

haha...i thot Jay sounded pretty good in it. a difference from his usual rather high pitched singing. when my sis 1st heard that song n i told her that part was sung by jay..she was like *incredulous* "Jay? as in Zhou Jie Lun? he sung this part?"
E-ping...Jay sounds like an indian man? oh my...

Hey, I was thinking about this too. At first, I thought he sounded like.... when you heard a tape being slowed down... thus the voice gets so low... he does sound like this in Hai Dao. But then after I gave few more listens, I think it really his voice going that low. In min 3:10, he might use technical effect to make his voice sound a little heavy than usual, but not to make it lower. Well, he does sound different, but everyone could always play around with their own voices.... like David Tao in "My Anata" for instance.
I like to correct myself. I think Jay didn't rap in verse 1, instead he kinda sing in a lower tone, but the 2nd verse, he did rap.
And actually I like the la la la part.... it's so different than the regular Jay, therefore I find it very amusing. Besides... it's like the only lyrics I could always remember and sing along with it.

Now that you've mentioned that...it made me think too. I had to listen to Hai Dao for 10 times to convince me that Jay is indeed the one rapping because it was so LOW!
It maybe an edited thing. You know Jay never fails to surprise us with new things and this low rapping might be one of this.
I actually like the "la, la, la" too. It's very catchy, like you're anticipating what comes after lalalala.

His rapping does make a good contrast to Jo's voice. the overall effect is good. actually despite the lowering of the voice, you can still tell that it's Jay, it's in the style of his rapping.I belive he did some blending in the "bridge" and "chorus" using that same low voice. I just love the song!
May I side track a little... I feel that Jolin sang the song well. I may be the odd one out around here, but I do like Jolin's singing... as in, I feel that Jay did "custom-make" those songs to suit her voice, and her voice is really suitable, making the song sound really good.

I couldn't believe Jay did the rap part.. Till i looked at the lyrics book and it states that Jay did the background or smth.. It just doesn't sound like him. But its really different from his usual rapping style.. And i love it! The part where they sorta blend around 3:13 onwards, where Jolin sang a little low is my fave part of the song! :)

I agree with you, lattae. Are we the only odds ones around thinking Jolin's singing is great in those songs? This song is one of the few songs in which both Jay wrote well and the person sang it well.. Some songs that Jay wrote are totally ruined by the person's singing. :bleh:

Guess we are the rare breeds in here... but hey, we are entitled to our views right? :wink2: nevermind, let's rally together against the anit-jolin forces...
personally I think Jolin did a pretty good job with all the songs written by jay... espcially the ones in the this album. if you listen to hai dao and jiu shi ai, it' s like you can hear how she does make good attempt to bring out the "feel" like hai dao's "mystery feel" and jiu shi ai's light heartedness...
an example of a "ruined" Jay composition has to be white feathers (bai se yu mao) by rui en... it became really yucky. when the tune and all is acutally good, wonder what went wrong :?

i agree!!
i think jolin actually sounded nice in that song...
lol...mayb jolin worked extra hard. since the news said she had to do it many times and jay was guiding her along...
our jay is always so talented...
this song is sooo different from those crappy pop songs she usuallly sings...
if i were jay, i would be pulling my hair out trying to make her sound nice ...
and yeah...i thought white feathers was ruined by ruien's singing. The song itself is verysoothing and pretty nice, but the singing dint match the song.
The voice should have been...smoother...softer...more feminine?
not sure how to say it. it sounded like she was trying to change her voice or sumthing...kinda unnatural

so the rapping part its realli jay??? oh god~ at first i had my doubts and don't believe it at all cos the voice is just sooo unlike of jay's. but now...guess its confirm then. it must be the special effects jay added into that song...i agreed that jolin sound good in this song too.....though i think she sound abit of 'acting cute' in 'jiu shi ai'....maybe ths song supposed to have that feeling bah?! but she sings well in dao dai too....and of cos, no doubt that jay did well in the composing and producing parts :wink2:

I personally really like hai dao. I think the tune is nice, jolin's singing is good, Jay's rapping is great and the overall effect of the song awesome. I feel that all the sounds(be it rapping, sound effects, singing etc) blends in together very well, even better than Square Prague where the whole song was so disjointed (though that had another effect in a way)
I loved Jay's rapping/singing in the song too! Personally, I feel that Jay didn't naturally change his voice but rather he used the computer to to it. It just doesn't sound like him except for the way the words are pronounced. And did you guys notice that the 'la la la' parts were kinda off beat in the song but yet it still sounded good? (I dunno if that makes sense!) Jay is a genius!

omgomg... that's soo soooo true. Actually, I want to say it this way: It's not Jolin did a good job in here, but Jay did a good job in custom-making this song for Jolin. :)
But if you all realize that Hai Dao is quite a karaoke friendly song (except for the rap part... and the hard part is obviously done by Jay  ). Anyway... what I was trying to say was... Hai Dao is an easy song to sing. The range is not wide, and the tunes are mostly in the low range, and the tempo is medium... so Jolin doesn't have to do extra work to make herself sounds good in here. And that applies to Jiu Shi Ai and Dao Dai also... they're pretty much very easy song to sing and they're usually in a lower tunes.
Yep, I'm so agree with you that Jolin sounds good in most of Jay's songs, but I would give the compliments to Jay. hahaha, call me biased...., but I just think that it's an accomplishment for Jay to make great songs that suited Jolin's mediocre voice and singing. BUt I seriously think Jolin sounds awful in Knight's Spirit. What a waste of composition! It's a GREAT song, but I don't know... her singing sounded a little bit forced and unnatural, and I'm sure the song would be much better if the whole verse was sung by Jay and just let Jolin sang the chorus (just give her the easy part). *sigh* Maybe the song is too hard for her to sing after all. *shrug*
And yes I agree with you lattae, Rui En is another Jay's song spoiler. That Bai Se Yu Mao sounds quite awful with her accented and unnatural voice. It's weird, bcoz I have Rui En's album, and she sounded okay in other songs, but when singing this particular Bai Se Yu Mao... she's kinda .... I don't know... try to change her voice to be musky or something... I don't know.... it just sounds unnatural.
Anyway, have any of you guys heard Jay's song for You Ai Di= Girl Power? The song is nice, but everytime I hear it, I swore that it can't stop hurting my eardrums. I don't know why... Maybe Ai Di's voice is too crisp and too rockish loud. Or maybe the choice of instruments are not too good. *shrug*

:lolabove: you're so funny
anycase, you've pointed out a reason why I respect Jay as a composer... cos he makes mediocre singers sound good... I guess he did make the effort not to 'exploit' Jolin's voice in ways that will *ahem* highlight all her bad points... this is what I call skill :yeah:

I wasted 20 bucks on Jolin's new album just for Jay =( oh well. What does OT mean? If it means Original Track, then Jolin copied 4 tracks out of 10 tracks in her album. Copy cat. x_X|| The first time I heard her album I hated it. Especially the second track, Jiu Shi Ai. She acted so cute in it. It absolutely sickened me. Then I listened to the whole cd again and on the third round the songs started sounding ok and I guess I sort of grew to like them. My favourite song is Dao Dai. ^.^ Hai Dao is also nice (of course. Jay composed it) and Jiu Shi Ai sounds a tad like Shou Ai Ni from her previous album Kan Wo 72 Bian. =\ But the introduction to Hai Dao was a bit .. different (for lack of a better descriptive word). The part where some guy was saying stuff like "Ready to rumble.. Oh... thunder. It's time to dance, it's time to dance. Dance, ***." I couldn't make out what *** was but I keep thinking it sounded like "sucker". >.<
