Faye Wong used to be a very popular artist a few years ago. But i realised nowadays ppl like Twins, Joey, Miriam and S.H.E. I find Faye Wong a unique artist with her own style and her voice is just amazing.
Has anyone heard her new album 'JIANG AI'(to love)'? i think its an really innovative album compared to most Chinese pop music. Something different about her vocals and arrangements. She is surely one of the best asian artists. Other great Asian artists including Jay Chou , Yanzi and Sammi Cheng.
Just wanna know if anyone here like Faye Wong's music?

I haven't purchased her latest album, but I've been following her for years. She definitely high class with voice and composing talent. Sometimes, her voice is so perfect that I find it unsettling and void of feeling. Still I enjoy many of her songs (the one with mix of pop and orchestral movements, usually dislike the all-electronica ones) and have been listening to her since she 'cantonese' period.
Does anyone know how she composes her music? Just curious because I don't know if she even plays an instrument.

Interesting thought her voice is too perfect void of feeling.
I seriously think her voice is full of feeling and emotion when she sings. She has that crystal clear angelic voice. Its just unique.
About her composing AMDAWN. She HUMS with her voice to compose.
HER electronic compostions are the best!!!!!!!!!!

Faye's my very first idol and is still my favourite female artiste till date.
I've bought all her albums and still love her first 2 mandarin albums most i.e. I Do (Wo Yuan Yi) and Sky (Tian Kong).
I'm not a very big fan of her electronic/alternative compositions and enjoy her ballades more. She has this "ethereal" kinda vocal quality, nothing ghostly or eerie...just very "floaty".
Somehow i fall for singers who mutters :)
The same goes for Jay. Anyway it's always the tune that catches my attention first before the lyrics!
I was so glad she came to SG to promote her latest movie (starring her and Leon Lai) but didn't make it to her meet-the-fans session :depresse:
Am looking fwd to her holding a concert in SG. Have never failed to attend her concerts here and i miss them terribly cos they are always so out of the ordinary (her costumes & makeup, props etc).
I wonder too if she still appeals to the younger generation? :?

Why, yes, of course I still love Faye! She's awesome  Actually, we do have some of her songs and videos for download in the Downloads & Links forum. :wink2:

Faye Wong is very popular in China still, as I learned when I went back to China these holidays. I heard her two songs (Jiang Ai and Bu Liu) and I reckon they were very unique. I'm not a big fan of hers but I think she is a very famous singer and has a made a good name for herself over these years.

I still like Faye Wong but not that much. She's still popular but maybe getting too old? My opinion anyway...sorry if it offend some people. But maybe older people like Faye? And we teenagers just like new artists?

amdawn . finally i found soemone feels the same as i do . you said " her vocie is so perfect that i find it unsettling and void of feelings " . so do i ! i love beautiful voice , hey , i enjoy both operatic singing ( chinese or european ) but after my initial captivation by faye wong's voice , i start getting put of by the lack of soul in it. i still love jackey cheung's wonderful voice and jay's mumbling is so personal and heartfelt - whether fast or slow tempo .

I guess I don't always fall for the electronic stuff because I enjoy hearing the individual instruments -guitars flying, drum bashing, piano dancing, horns tooting... Yeh, phoebe, I like the operatic like singing she sometimes does. Like on the track 'face'. True, her soul is missing in some places but thankfully regained in others.
I love the first five songs of 'Fable' too because it felt like I was watching a film in my head and hearing the film score. If the songs were stringed together into a musical, it would be fantastic; emotional storylines and singing. I wonder why Chinese theatre does not explore contemporary musicals-maybe like 'Snow Wolf Lake', but more cohesive. Why can't we have 'phantom of the opera' or a 'miss saigon'?
By the way, does anyone listen to Bjork here? I listened to her greatest hits album and realized that Faye is standing on a shoulder of Bjork.

Amdawn 'Face' is a classic song that shows Faye's talent operatic and rock!
The first 5 song's of her 2000 album 'Fable' are quite something. I like 'New Tenant' and 'Chanel' the best. The arrangements are mixed by some famous french electronic musician.
Faye's image styles were influenced by Bjork in 1994-95. But she has developed her own style over the years. But musically Faye is very different to Bjork. Bjork is more daring musically while Faye only experiments with new music styles but still sing her usual commercial ballads like 'Red Bean' 'Love letter to myself' '

Yeh i agree she used to br more popular. Since she release more albums ...and her material was quite commercial back then compared to now. Her new style is very avant garde and many ppl may back away since most ppl like pop music. Especiallly the RNB genre.

yah, where is faye wong? u rarely hear from her anymore...
i still like hre a lot though...i only have 2 of her albums, both are pretty old but she's a very good singer...how old is she sanyways?
what does"avant garde" mean?
i don't like pop that much..i mean, some of the modern stuff out now is really bad but others are good...i still like listening to "oldies"
amdawn
03-03-2004, 05:21 AM
what do you mean you still like listening to 'oldies'? like music from the 60's, 70's, 80's? that's odd for someone your age. of course, some of the old stuff definitely have lasting qualities. solid melodies and writing.
avant garde can be synonymous with experimental, cutting edge, unorthodox.. what did you think of that album 'impatience/anxiety" where she does not sing lyrics but substitutes it with sounds.
faye is probably between 32-34. i think she still wield lots of power; she can release an album after two years and still stir lots of excitement from press and fans. for instance, when i visited the yesasia site for her latest album, there were over a hundred reviews even before the album was released; it seem most were expressing excitement over just a radioplay of her first plugged song and couldn't wait to get her album. she doesn't garner as much awards as she use to, but i don't think it diminishes her presence in the music sphere. what do you think?
chelsa
03-03-2004, 07:02 AM
agreed.
i think it's because she doesnt try to conform to the music of today, so many of the young artistes are into rnb and pop but she just does watever she feels like doing. she said so in a magazine interview. i feel that ppl respect her and appreciate her music because of this.
songs today get old really fast as compared to the ballads of the 80s and early 90s. i think that's wat estericdragon meant.

um, no offense, but i don't like her particularily. i respect her for what she's accomplished for chinese music in general, but i've seen her on taiwanese tv recently (she spent a couple of days here with li ming, promoting her new movie), and i think that she made a really diva-like impression, looking very arrogant and quite aloof. don't know what she's like in real life, but the last couple of days certainly hasn't improved my opinion of her.

em..i meant like, songs u dont' really hear anymore by the older generation...like, andy lau, jacky, sammi, sandy..lol. basically, the chinese songs that my rents listen to...it's not bad stuff...it's more slow and not so upbeat and rap as the chinese songs are today...no what i mean?
i'm a very instrumental person..like, when i listen to a song, i mostly pay attention to the bg music and what instruments they use...so i luv songs when it's just the music...
yah,i like her songs in which she doesn't erally sing words in it...u gotta have a lot of talent for that

she is now popular oso...
since the movie "xiao cheng da shi"
she is an ultimate singer, has a beautiful voice...

Has anyone watched 'xiao cheng da shi' or also know as 'Leaving Me Loving You'?
I think the film was beautifully shot even though the story line was simple. Faye Wong's acting is improving compare to before. I agree with Lai Cheng Hung she's getting more popular because of this movie.[/quote]

Now that the Golden Melody Awards nomination list is out. It appears that Faye and Jay have topped the list with most nominations. Which ones are they running against each other? (I don't know since I have trouble reading it) What's your take on who deserves more to win the award. Of course you have to set aside how much you adore Jay and be partial about who you think should win. Faye or Jay? (hey it rhymes:)
fpunk
04-25-2004, 09:31 AM
I adore them both!!!
I cant decide.
Both very different singers and genre.
I think Faye had won many awards countless times over
her career. I don't think she'll mind not winning another award.
She already has many on her shelf at home.
I think Jay should deserve to win since he has achieve so much
in such little time. And the fact he compose nearly all of his songs
and produce them as welll shows he has expcetional talent.
Also i believe awards should be encourage to be given to young singers
like Jay. Faye already has a commendable reputation in the industry she dont need another award.

i still like faye wong she has a unique voice that no one can replace her voice is not easy to imitate too!! she has her own way of singing and bringing herself as a singer and can't be compared with other singers
amdawn

What! You can't quite consider her as old, nor yourself as old. Isn't she like only 35? I still call that young, especially as she accomplished quite a lot in the decade or more that she has been around. I hope she wins some awards because there hasn't been an female quite like her, an honor to nominated along with the men.
Finally checked into yesasia to see where they are head to head - Best Composer - Best Lyricist . The other is Best Arrangement on their Album though they themselves are not nominated.

Wanted to bring back this thread to life lol since she just had a baby.
I read that her baby girl weighed 9lbs .. which is quite a lot! :excited: But nonetheless, congrats to her! I am not a fan of her but the news heading really caught my attention on the newspaper. I was at a store today and I overhead these ladies chatting about her and how she was still such nice glowing skin while she was pregnant lol..:D

Faye Wong entered into the Peking Union Medical College Hospital two days before her delivery
Hong Kong singing sensation Faye Wong has given birth to a 4 kilogram ( :hmm: i'm not so sure about it since karen mei mentioned was 9?? ) baby girl. The baby was born Saturday (May 27th) at Peking Union Medical College Hospital.
According to Faye Wong's manager and close friend Katie Chen (陈家瑛), the thirty-six year old singer and actress had a caesarean section to give birth to her second child. Both baby and mother are in stable condition.
It has been a fierce but, as yet, bloodless battle between various Chinese tabloids struggling to find out more details about Faye Wong's new arrival.
the webbie i read this news (http://en.ce.cn/Life/entertainment/news/200605/27/t20060527_7117909.shtml)
Btw....anyone have the lastest pix or her baby pix??

Does anyone else on here think she has a beautiful voice? Me and my Mum think she is very similar to Bjork in style and have heard other people label her the Chinese counterpart. Does she not release albums anymore as her last cd (To Love) came out 5 years ago? She still performs occasionaly, but I will be sad if she never releases new material again! I also think she is quite talented as an actress also (although I know she's better known for her music) in films like Chinese Odyssey 2002 (where she was hilarious!) and 2046 (where she played a serious part). I didn't like her in Chungking Express though.

hi there! :D ~ hey I love Faye's acting too! Tony Leung is the lead actor in Chinese Odyssey, right? I love the movie! :D
However, there is already a thread dedicated for Faye here --> http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3477. So creating a new thread here would be redundant, isn't it?

Yes, Tony Leung is in CO2002. I agree with you, that film has me howling with laughter! I didn't see a thread on her already, that's why I decided to start one myself. Oops! Could a moderater merge my post into the other thread?
