Jay The One, Pride of Taiwanese Music
Jay's Music Ingenuity Creates New Waves
Jay Chou, the pride of Taiwanese, creates new history in the Taiwanese entertainment circle with his The One concert yesterday night. In addition, in the new Y, and Z-generation, he has also become the important beacon for the young generation.
His concert was a extravaganza of unrivaled proportions. From the giant prop of a basketball court that was dropped on the stage, to the costly stage, the tremendously extensive preconcert effort, and the sight of 30,000 fans waving their luminous light sticks together, was this was a concert of epic proportion. Teachers, experts, and parents who wishes to understand their children, look no further. Start from understanding Jay Chou...
Jay's The One concert, is a concert with the intent of transmitting the message that it is MADE IN TAIWAN. It is not merely a concert for the Taiwanese only, it is also for the 'outsiders'. Yesterday, media from Japan, Korea, China, South East Asia, Europe and America, were also present. They are there not just to enjoy the concert, and also to observe the Jay Phenomena, and to check out the possible market for Jay in their respective market. They are on a 'pilgrimage' to bring Jay's music back to their home countries.
One thing to note, was the 'performance' of the fans present at the concert. Their effort was almost on par with the Jay performing on the stage. They probably did not know, they had made Taiwan proud by their united effort as they supported Jay whole heartedly. The many touching scene displayed by the fans will be brought back to the various countries, by the media 'pilgrims' present.
It would be a very difficult task to try and describe the feeling at Jay's concert, only when you are standing among all the fans, can you feel the exhilarating atmosphere. This feeling as one collectively, was of a scale seldom seen for a pop concert, and more commonly seen at huge evangelistic congregation. Only by listening with your ears and heart, can you feel the feeling of togetherness.
In this concert, Jay had manage to ascend to the level of 'holiness', where young people can step forward to 'worship' his music, and to seek the comfort that society and family had failed to provide.
Watching Jay in his concert is a completely different experience from listening to his CD, as it contained all the essentials of complete entertainment, from special effects, lasers, pyrotechnics, costumes, special props, hidden doorways, and all the works. For Taiwanese who were used to going overseas to watch other concerts, this is one concert that you will not see overseas.
This is a concert made for Jay, by Jay. The concept for each segment was originated from Jay, and brought to stage after discussion with his company. Critics who had considered Jay not an all-rounder, will be impressed by his abilities after seeing this concert.
Although Jay's good friend, Jolin Tsu is unable to attend the concert, due to commitments in Beijing, but his other friends appeared in full force at the concert, including A*mei, Richie Ren, Elva Xiao, Edison, Xu Ruo Xuan, ASOS sisters, Fan Xiao Xuan, and many others, cheering and rooting for Jay.
Jay's concert special guest, David Tao, sang 'Black Tangerine' alongside Jay. While Jay played the piano, David played his guitar, completing the historical moment in music history. David also generously let Jay sing his song 'Finding oneself' with Jay's interpretation of the song. David also impromptu sang his own interpretation of Jay's 'Lovely woman'. Jay was so touched by the collaboration, that he gave an impromptu rap declaring the sad situation of always being compared and pi
n
tted against each other.

avid, Jay and his 30,000 fans helped to create a hope for a new music world , a world not seperated by companies or music types, a world joined in unity for the pursuit of good music.....

Jay Chou and David Tao's Music Duel
Amid the sounds of thousands of Jay's fans screaming, Jay's Concert of the year opened at the Taipei's Shi Li Stadium. After a medley of song and dance, special guest David Tao appeared on stage to 'duel' with Jay. The two even sang 'Black Tangerine' in R&B style. At the climax, the lyrics underwent a bit of impromptu change and became 'Please don't compare them unnessarily', and they even had a 'fist-fight' on stage, for the benefit of the media, who liked to compare the two.
Jay's concert opened at 7.30pm, and David went onstage at about 9pm. To welcome this special guest, Jay used his 'Jay singing' to provide a new interpretation to David's "Finding oneself", creating a light-hearted yet refreshing version to the song. Just while Jay is humming David's song, David appeared at the other end of the stage, carrying his guitar. This starts the 'music duel' between the two music geniuses, as they walked toward each other. At the point where they met at the middle of the stage, they even stage a 'fighting' scene!
As Jay and David has always been pitted against each other, so Jay and David used this opportunity to sing 'Black Tangerine' side-by-side, to rap, and even did an impromptu that stated "Please don't compare us!". Just before the end of this segment, Jay even remarked, with much feeling that, Today they had jumped out of the chessgame, but tomorrow, they may still be plunged back onto the chessboard.... Upon hearing this, David loudly protested, "NO, WE WON"T!!!" All fans present were touched and excited by this gesture of unity.
Jay's concert today is an extravaganza not unlike a musical. The opening segment was presented by a calvacade of sexily dressed dancers on motorcycles, Jay, in a futuristic space suit, appearing from a trapdoor, sitting on his 'throne'. The he took out his Nunchuks, and started singing "Nunchuks", with the excited fans below stage joining in song.
After singing "Nunchuks" and "Ban Shou Ren" in his futuristic cool costume, the stage started playing a video of a Japanese old lady saying that, only a Jay ninja can save the city under seige. When the video ended, Jay had already changed into his modified Japanese outfit, complete with a ninja sword, which he danced and waved his sword as he sang "Ninja".
After the luxurious opening, Jay came onstage wearing demin outfit, and sang "Ye ye pao de cha" while a ninja posing as 'Grandpa' holding a pot of WuLong tea. The song was followed by "An Hao". Although the performance on stage had tranformed from posh opening to this heartwarming but simple stage set, but the fans did not mind, and went on singing and cheering for Jay!
After that, one end of the stage darkened, and Piggy (Luo Zhi Xiang) appeared wearing Jay's trademark cap, pretending to the Jay in a small dilapidated 'room', singing "Pa, Wo Hui Lai Le".... As he sang, another of Jay's friend, Ke You Hui appeared also. Amid the hip-hop dancers dancing on the stage, the three guys rap and sang in great harmony.
Following that, a screening of formal ballroom dancing led the formally dressed dancers upstage, as Jay appeared wearing his Transylvanian tuxedo and overcoat, singing "Wei Lian Gu Bao", creating a rather eerie atmosphere onstage.
After creating the eerie atmosphere, Jay changed into an ocean-blue costume before singing, "Ai Zai Xi
Yuan Qian[/b:31da32f01c]", "[b]Ban Dao Tie He", and "Hui Dao Guo Qu".... exhibiting great charm and passion.
In the middle of the concert, Jay's love for basketball overflowed onto the stage, as he staged a basketball match, and turned the stage into a basketball court. A game of basketball started b
etween him and a black player, and the concert almost became a NBA match.....
During half time, a video of Jay playing the piano, and punch-fighting when he was a kid, produced by Jay's Dad, was showed. The fans just got past their amazement and excitment of seeing Jay as a kid, when a smaller version of Jay got an stage and started playing on the piano. In the beautiful notes played by the 'little Jay' the real Jay emerged singing "Fen Lie", "An Jing", and "Hei Si You Mo" among other songs, creating a heartwarming and nostalgic feeling all round.
After the extravaganza starting show, and the music duel with David, the concert got into its third high point, when drumbeats, flag dancing, and the atmosphere built to the point of exploding. Jay materialized from the trapdoor at the stage, flying using steel wires, and singing "Long Quan"
After "Shanghai 1943", "Shei Jiao Wo Ting Ni De Hua" and "Ni Zen Mo Lian Hua Dou Shuo Bu Qing Chu", when Jay was singing, "Zhui Hou De Zhan Yi", his good friend, Liu Gen Hong appeared in his 'injured' costume, to act with him in the 'last battle'. The concert ground was blasted with the anit-air warning siren, sending the fans' excitment into an even higher frenzy.
Only after the encore songs of "Jian Dan Ai" and "Kai Bu Liao Kou" was the curtain finally allowed fall on Jay's highly anticipated concert.....

Concert Not 'Shoik'(High) Enough: Jay
Jay broke his personal concert record by holding his 'The One' musical extravaganza last Saturday. It was a concert to remember, with full-house of 30,000 of Jay's fans present, luxurious stage preparation, and magnificent stage effects. One of the best concert ever presented in recent years.
But during the celebratory party after the concert, Jay said," For the finale, when I went down to the floor, my singing not very good. My ear mics (microphones) keep giving me problems, I can't hear properly. Some of the songs were delayed, and I did not manage to catch up with the song."
With regards to the problems encountered with the ear mics, and the many problems with the sound systems, Alfa Company explained that due to the large scale of the concert, there were more than 10 cameras running, and each trailing several cables. These cables, in addition, to the many people and equipments present onstage caused one of the cables to be damaged, thus resulting in the problem with the ear mics.
Jay had 12 costume changes while he performed more than 20 songs. He felt that the costumes were there to compliment the songs he sang, more costumes would give the audience more of a visual experience. But vecause of all these costume changes, he had to spend a bit of time off-stage, resulting in a few cool moments during the concert.
Jay also commented that all the costumes were not easy to wear, and he had to stand at the backstage in his underwear (!!!!!) :yikes: while 4 of his helpers helped him change..... :grinnin:
Jay also felt that he is most satisfied with the segment where he and David collaborated onstage. David and him had planned the part where he was to swing a punch at David. But when Jay's mom saw the rehearsal, she felt that it was not appropriate, as that was too much like a bad boy..... But Jay felt that everyone present are mature enough to know that he and david are just play acting onstage, and will not believe they are actually fighting.... (In the end, he still swung that fake punch at David........ bad boy.... )

Jay's Concert Marred by Bad Sound Systems
The many fans of pop music had a recent run of good luck as they had the opportunity to see two new 'heavenly royalties' of pop music perform at concerts. Following Stephanie Sun, Jay Chou also had a concert of huge proportions last saturday.
These two artistes are at the height of their popularity, and both talented songwriters. They both had their concert in the same stadium, and had splashed huge amounts of money into the concert preparation. They concerts were also highly successful, claiming many rave reviews. But they both encounterd the same problem of faulty sound systems, which many felt had marred the performance of the artiste. Most of the media and people from the entertianment circle who had attended these two concerts, commented that the failure of the sound system, resulting the singer not able to project their singing, thus ruining the performance.
Most of the concerts held in Taiwan, had long been plagued problematic concert support. For the longest time, there had not been a suitable place to hold a proper concert, and it was even difficult to apply for a permit to hold a concert. This had been an inert ostacle for the concert organisers. In addition, there have been vicious competitions in the music circle, where free concert are easily available. Many fans are thus unwilling to spend money to go to a concert, resulting in poor concert sales. This make concert organisation ever more di
r
fficult.
Under such conditions, there are not many who are brave enough t
o attempt to organise a good paid concert, and all who did are greatly admired by others within the circle. However, it would be huge pity to have a concert without the support of a good sound system, and thus not able to bring out the characteristics of the artiste's music.
Stephanie Sun had her concert in March, which left a great impression in the minds of all present. During the concert, the sound systems kept having problems, When she was singing onstage, people below could not hear what she was singing, and if she tried to walk around on the stage, her mics would produced major statics noises. The failure of the overall music coordinator and the sound system coordinator caused a Stephanie to have a bad mark on her otherwise perfect concert report card.
the same situation also happened during Jay's concert. When it comes to the atmosphere, the stage setting, stage props and costumes, Jay's concert was one above average, showing the organisers' confidence and investment in Jay. But many inner circle people had questioned, did Jay actually sing during the first half of the concert???
That is because Jay's voice was drowned by the backstage vocals, for most of the first part of the concert. Even when his voice finally was audible, it was muffled at best.
When David Tao came onstage to duel with Jay, the entire atmosphere at the stadium was at its highest. The two R&B princes made history when they stood on the same stage to sing. But, alas, the performance and collaboration of these two music geniuses was marred by the terrible sound systems, leaving an ugly stain on the otherwise perfect performance in music history.
It is always much more difficult to organise an open air concert, and the organisers encounter an open learning curve everytime they prepare for a concert of such magnitude. One of the main aims of having a concert, is not only to provide a mere visual extravaganza, but also to provide the best music and sound effects to the audience. Jay and Stephanie are still considered newcomers to the world of concert organisation, but their performances are noteworthy. If they had been given better sound support and more coordinated and experienced backstage and music coordination, the resultant concerts would been much better that it already is....
