Staged Rivalry

TAIPEI - Taiwan's R&B princes Jay Chou and David Tao literally made a show of their so-called music rivalry on stage on Saturday - by turning it into the theme of their collaboration.

The two are said to be pop rivals, and the Taiwanese media love to compare them.

But, by showing the world that they are friends, the two finally sang on stage together in public, cheered on by 40,000 fans attending Jay's mammoth The One concert at a Taipei stadium.

Jay started with his own imterpretation of David's song, Finding Myself.

Later, when David appeared on stage, they started to sing - in rap style - David's song, Black Tangerine. At the climax, they even staged scenes of mock fist-fights with each other, Taipei reports say.

Hinting at the gossip about them, Jay ended the segment by comparing themselves to pieces on a chessboard, being manipulated by people.

Jay's gig was a much talked-about extravaganza, boasting of a seven-storey-high stage set, and scaffoldings.

The singer also wove his passion for basketball into the show. A giant prop of a basketball court was dropped onto the stage, and he mock-played the game with black players.

The singer also treated his fans with 12 costume changes.

His grand appearance was with a calvacade of motorcycles, and in a Star Wars-like suit, complete with a sabre.

I am really glad everything had gone well for him, will keep a lookout for interviews and more reports on his concert review...... for those people in Singapore who haven't bought today's Straits Time, you can go and get it. The article in on second page of Life!, with a photo of him in his Ban Shou Ren costume......

Stay tuned

ya know, it is kind of strange, but there are not as many reports about the concert as i thought there should be.....

Up till now, I have only seen two small articles in the Straits Times, and New Paper.... didn't even see it in the local chinese newspapers..... hee hee.... Thought they should be scrambling for the news???

But then again, with David Tao in town, there are probably more things to report about him..... David Tao did say, in several reports, that he hoped that the two of them will not be compared together again, as their music are as different as apples to oranges, and it is a matter of taste....

I was monitoring the TVBS entertainment news yesterday night, and the host was gushing with praise when she described the concert, and she and several other artistes that went to the concert, said the most touching moment was when Jay and David hugged on the stage, and when they were dueling with music....

But apparently, due to copyright rule (or something...) and as this is a ticketed concert (meaning the people had paid to see this concert) the media were only allowed to film the first three segments *urgh*

I have recorded that part, and will be converting that into .mpg format later..... from what I can see.... it was spectacular..... Although some reports did comment that the sound effect of the concert was not good, thus spoiling part of the fun....

I sure wish the comapny will come up with the VCd for this concert... I want to see it!!!

A news segment of about 6 minutes.... about 2 of which was the host talking about how good the conert was....

And a few minutes of the concert, and then the after concert celebratory party interview..... where Jay said the most memorable part of the concert was when he and David sang together.... and he considered this concert to be better than the last one he had, and he feels that he got about 80% right in his performance during the concert.....
