I was curious to know how many people are from Washington State...
I go to Shorewood Highschool and SCC in Shoreline, which is north of Seattle.
Also, I didn't find a thread about any Washington State concerts for Jay...are there not that many C-Pop fans in WA? Will there be one anytime soon?

the reason you dont see a thred about Jay going to WA is because there has been no announcements for it yet.
if Jay does come there.. it will be posted for you to know.. plase dont ask if Jay is commeing to XX state.. if it is known it will be posted o.k. thanx.
however; a thred for WA people to gather IS o.k.~!

Hi, I'm from Washington state... :)
I go to Ingraham High in North Seattle...and live in South Seattle...
I don't think there is likely to be a Jay concert in Washington anytime soon, since our Chinese community is very small...there probably wouldn't be very many people attending his concert if he were to have one here... Though I wouldn't object at all to Jay having a concert here... :D
While there are plenty of Jay fans that I know here, our Chinese community isn't really that active in Washington...so compared to cities such as Vancouver and Los Angeles where the Chinese communities are a lot bigger and seemingly, a lot more active, I'm sure there are plenty of fans around Washington that like Chinese music...

Ahh I see, my apologies.
As for Chinese communities, I guess I can see how LA and Vancouver have larger ones, but I think WA State has a pretty decent and reasonably sized Chinese community. Maybe this is a bad example but if you compare our state to any of the southern states. Haha…Well, yea that probably is a bad example. But our Chinese community is pretty large as far as I am concerned. We have a Chinatown. Vancouver has like 2? LOL yea, failed argument.
Anyways, do you know Xiao? He goes to Ingraham as well. If I’m not mistaken he is the ASB president. He and I are buddies. I met him through the NWAW summer leadership program. You should try it. It gets you in touch with the Asian American community. See, I go to a majority white school; it is 75% white or something. Through the program you meet a ton of Asian American Leaders in the community as well as some minority leaders. But yea, our Asian community is larger than I expected.
What do you mean by "active"?
This thread is really weird now, because I have no idea what I am arguing for anymore. =X

Mrr? Oo;; Well... I live in Mercer Island (near Seattle...) and I go to MIHS. Erm. Yeah, I'd agree that our Chinese population is pretty big... however, not very active. In fact, a lot of the Asians at my school are kinda whitewashed. -_-;; Not to mention, in our Chinatown... I don't see that many "young people". Mostly it's old grandparents and parents out and about... who... probably aren't that into Jay Chou or his music for that matter. The only people that are "young" are... well... REALLY young.
I guess it's just not hip enough for teen Asians to be out and about in Chinatown... even though I do see some b-balling or whatever.
Lack of active Asians my age... perhaps that's why a Jay concert here isn't likely. :(
[and i mean 'active' as in, we don't have major Chinese companies or radio stations or television studios... companies that could fund a Jay concert for promotion or could possibly draw him here]

Nope, I don't know who Xiao is, but I think I might have an idea who he is...does he wear glasses, a pretty tall guy? Speaks Mandarin? I think I used to ride the same bus as him before they moved me onto another bus for some reason. :? Can't say I know a lot of people around my school because I am extremely shy around people...
Hehe, by active, I meant in Chinese communities like Vancouver and Los Angeles, they have a lot of events and fairs for Chinese people. Yep, exactly like chichirui said, we don't have major Chinese companies and entertainment media companies to support a lot of Chinese stars to peform here....
Though, my mom says, there seems to be a lot of people moving up here from California...we might see a change in the next couple of years, depending on what's happening around and everything. I'm hoping that there will be more events for the Chinese community in later years. But I'm not very in touch with the community, so I guess I'm not really in a position to say what is and what isn't... Have to apologize for all the nonsense I've posted...so sorry...

you didnt go to the china town fair in the summer? the karaoke was tight ^^ lol my friends and i took over it...lol it was so fun...we had like 10+ people on stage...
chichirui, do you know Marella?
ShadowFei, hmm, ive never seen xiao wear glasses, i guess you could call him kinda tall, umm as for teh bus, i doubt he takes the bus, hes a senior and he drives...lol
hmm, as for being not so hip at china town...i find that rather awkward...my friends and i always meet at oasis before we go somewhere...and we go to venus karaoke every once in awhile, i can't say we hang out there a ton though cuz like its far for some of us...but yea...there are things for teens to do, but i suppose we'd rather be at the mall or something...you can always see teenagers in oasis or any of the other bbt spots...i dunno...
...vancouver has a ton of asian malls huh?

Oh. Wait! I know who he is now. Is his full name Xiao Wang, or something like that? He's really an active and involved student, I see him at every single assembly we have! So sorry, I mistaked him for someone else...
syzygy, do you go to Vancouver often? Hehe, yep, I guess one could say that there are a lot of Asian stores in Vancouver and Richmond. I was going to go to Vancouver tomorrow, but the snow and slippery road conditions scare my parents from driving up there, and my dad has accepted another job to work on... I guess I won't get to go.
Haha, I go to Venus Karoke sometimes too, but now it is pretty rare because I have so much homework. But true, there are some places in Chinatown that are nice to hang out at.

Eh... no I can't say I know any Marella.... Oo;; I DID go to the Chinatown fair thingy last summer though! That was a lot of fun haha. Heey... I was watching the karaoke contest for a bit. What did you sing? ^_^ It was a lot of fun and there were SO many people... @_@ I bought the 8 dimensions cd there haha...
I don't go to Chinatown with my friends that much... [I assume we're all talking about the same Chinatown... -_-;;] do you guys have any recommendations on fun places to go and things to do? That sort of stuff? Because I think I'll hang out there during breaks and stuff and I wouldn't know...
We need an Asian mall or something... haha... it'll actually be pretty successful... :( too bad... I don't think we're "active" enough for that either. The only thing I've heard of that they're planning to build are those dragon gate thingies or whatever [?] :D haha not very useful... read it in the NWAW though keke....
yes.. so... sidetracking.. any recommendations?
syzygy
01-07-2004, 02:18 AM
things to do in our chinatown
-venus karoke
-bbt
1.oasis
2.gossip
3.ambrosia
-wing luke museum(like once in awhile, cuz some stuff is kinda nifty)
most of these things you wouldnt be able to spend the whole day there...like maybe for a bit but it'd be so boring hanging out there for the whole day...
umm...thats all i can really think of...i dont think our china town is really meant for teenagers...i mean...we have grocery stores and like resturants...
you can take the bus tunnel and go downtown...thats what we do sometimes...i mean...theres a ton of stuff to do downtown...
-movie theater
-shopping
-eating
-gameworks
probably some more things here and there...

01-07-2004, 08:58 PM
i don't think there's much to do in Seattle, the most popular tourist spot is probably the Space Needle.. i think that's probably it.. or Downtown, where there's some stuff to do! but other than those spots, i don't think there's much to do!
ShadowFei
01-08-2004, 02:45 AM
Hehe, has everyone been staying home for the past two days because of the snow? But I think I'll probably have to go back to school tomorrow...
Hmm...in Chinatown...there's also Uwajimaya and the Kinokuniya bookstore...though...you probably wouldn't like to spend that much time in a bookstore... :D There's also the Great Wall Shopping Mall in...where is it? Everett? There's some stuff to do there, but not that much...there's also that other building like on the edge of Chinatown...I haven't been there much, so I don't really know what's in there...I think it's called the Pacific Rim Center.
chichirui
01-10-2004, 11:42 AM
Ugh, yeah, our Chinatown isn't extremely "teen friendly". We need more fun things built in our Chinatown... -_-;; it can be so boring. Often times the only reason I set foot there is to eat at some restaurant or go grocery shopping... @_@
ShadowFei
01-11-2004, 06:53 AM
True, there's not much to do in Chinatown...*sigh* Hopefully, we can see some development and changes within the next few years. Just kind of sad, a few years to wait is a pretty long time... :D Has anyone seen or heard about anything interesting that might happen in Chinatown?
I've always wanted to open a nice restaurant or some nice store...like a really up-to-date CD store or something in Chinatown. :D Though, nobody would probably go to it...

01-11-2004, 07:10 AM
Wow. I should have visited this forum earlier.. I feel such a connection, because I know where Shorewood and Ingraham are. I pass Ingraham every time I go to my school (go Rams right?) I'm from Seattle. Go to King's school (private).. it's like.. around Fremont or Aurora or something like that.
I agree Chinatown isn't great. It's barely "china" town because it's an Internation District, so has a lot of Korean, Vietnmese, Japanese, etc. stuff. There needs to be like a Chinese store. I go to the Uwajima bookstore because upstairs there are CDs and stuff, but none of Chinese artists. >< So none of Jay..

01-11-2004, 07:19 AM
Hi cici bebe! Hehe, yep, Ingraham Rams...but I have no school spirit whatsoever... And have pretty much no idea what goes on at my school.
Is your school far from your home? Fremont/Aurora is also up north, right? I hardly get to go out that much, so I have no idea where things really are here in Washington. :D

i have not a lot of idea what you guys are talking about but im a fellow washintonian also! i go to seattle a lot though, so i have a pretty good idea what you all are talking about. i was up there during new years to pick up my mom from teh airport, and some people there said there was a celebration around the space needle...does anyone go to that? i didnt cause i was so tired that day but they told us it is a yearly thing.
The uwajimaya bookstore! i love going in there. although i dont understand half of the things in there if i wanted to get a book. its a big store though, if im thinking right.

ShadowFei - Yea I've been home because of the snow days...its been awesome...had a blast...it's been awhile since its snowed in our area...snowball fights and sledding...wow that is just...wow.
Yea Fremont is up north...Shoreline area is where Kings is, which is north of Seattle and south of Edmonds. BTW I have no school spirit either... :)
cici bebe - OMG my friends and I drive by Kings so often. I live kind of around that area...like 5 mile radius lol...I knew someone that went to Kings... Jenni ring a bell? Do you go to Richmond Beach often? I'm walking distance from there :bleh:
Our Chinatown needs to get cleaned up and spruced up and like prettyified...the dragons didn't do much...the streets are like littered and like not very umm yea...i suppose all chinatowns are kinda like that...but I think I'd probably help out if it was cleaner... Also, if they had an asian mall there, maybe with like arcade, karaoke, bubble tea, random stores, and like asian cd/dvd places...then i might go to chinatown more often...but yea...thats what we need over there...
cici bebe
01-12-2004, 05:09 AM
syzygy: You should come visit my preppy school sometime if you're not afraid of extremely rich fake at times snobby people. ;D (Okay I'm being unfair. I actually do love the ppl at King's and my school.) Um.. Jenni Lee or something? Was she Asian? I think she went there in like 7th grade and then left. I talked to her a few times.. but I don't think we clicked lol. If you showed me a pic I think I would know for sure.
Yeah definitely Chinatown lacks.. prettyness. It's so old and gross some places. >_< And it needs a new store that sells Chinese CDs and DVDs etc.
syzygy
01-12-2004, 06:02 AM
Jenni Lui I believe, shes a Junior now at Sammaish. Pic huh? PM me and I'll show you if you're curious...I don't know if she'd be comfortable with me showing her pic to a million people...lol...
A lot of asians go to Kings? I doubt it...but I have no idea...
cici bebe
01-13-2004, 02:13 AM
Almost no Asians go to King's. There's maybe.. %1. And they're all Korean so I can't talk about Jay to any of them. Though I talk about BoA etc. w/ them. And I don't think I know Jenni then.. the one I knew was my grade. When did she leave King's?
Do you guys plan on staying in state or go out for college?
syzygy
01-13-2004, 03:37 AM
hmm I honestly don't remeber when she left. Thats unfortunate...why don't you transfer to Shorewood? I mean, it's so close...and we have Asian guys...rofl...mostly korean but there are others...
College, I already goto SCC for running start...I hope to stay in state...i met a ton of people that are going to UW next year or currently attend...and well I planned to go to UW anyways, so that kind of strengthened my goal...
HUSKIES! Then I'll have school spirit :-P

==;; I went to Chinatown today and the ground is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Seriously, it's like... gum, bird poo, random bits of vegetables that fell on the ground at the outdoor markets, rotting pieces of god-know's-what, nasty looking paper...... oh, and there's always the occasional liquid. Oo;; scares me. I'm always looking at the ground when I'm walking through some certain parts of Chinatown... lucky, not all of Chinatown is like that. That would be very bad. >_<
Aside from the fact that we need to scrub down the "International District".... I agree with cici bebe. C-town could also use a generation upgrade.
syzygy
01-23-2004, 05:06 AM
the china town dumpsters have a distinguished smell to them lol...i dont enjoy walking by them and sniffing them or anything...but man...it smells so bad....walking along the sidewalk and you have to speed past the dumpsters...
ShadowFei
01-24-2004, 10:33 AM
We should get together and like...create an event or something...that is more fit for our generation...but I know this is a hard idea to follow through with...because it may be that not many people will get interested and enthusiastic about it...but at least it could be something...something to look forward to if it were to happen. To get the community interested in something there. What do you think?
My cousin and I have thought of trying to hold a talent show in Chinatown or something during the summer. *sigh* But we never got around to doing something about it when summer came around. :D Maybe this year is the year to start. Or maybe it is a bad idea and a really silly dream.
It's too bad not many new businesses or stores want to open up in Chinatown. I guess people are worried about the economy and where their money is going to go if they did open a store. But I would definitely go and support a CD shop that has stuff worth looking at...such as originals.
As for making it cleaner there...hmm... :?

Hey! I'm from WA too....(duh) -live in Sammamish (eastside) and I go to Skyline High School!.. been to tri-cities, not too many people- but it is way to hot for my tastes. I like the rain. Sadly enough I don't think Jay Chou will be coming to WA anytime soon....

Wow...I think this thread might come alive again...it's been dead for a while... Haven't really checked this thread in a while, so I didn't know people were posting here... :D
I live in the Beacon Hill area too! I still go to Ingraham High School. It'd be fun if we could get together and hang out.
juunleenfaah - Seattle is...very mellow. I don't really know much about life in Seattle, but I guess it's a very alternative kind of place...musical and stuff...lots of bands playing around...that type of thing...in downtown we have Benaroya Hall for orchestral concerts, etc...I don't really know how to explain it, sorry. As for attractions, we have the Space Needle, EMP (Experience Music Project, though I've never been to it), and one of the more interesting places to look at that was recently completed is our downtown Central library (it's got 10 floors and some interesting architecture...easy to get lost in...x_x)...and Washington is home to Microsoft and what used to be the headquarters of Boeing before they moved it to Chicago, but we still have a lot of their factories here. The people here are...very themselves. They're not afraid to dress the way they want to. So I guess there's all kinds of people here in Seattle. Chinese communities are centered around south Seattle and Beacon Hill, and some other places, though there seems to be large Japanese and Korean communities (Federal Way, Shoreline, Lynwood, north Seattle) scattered throughout Washington too. The past few weeks it has been raining nonstop... But I do kind of like the rain. We almost broke our record for 22 something days of rain...don't know if we're still on the record since it didn't really rain yesterday. In Seattle, you can always expect rain. Though we had a really warm summer last year! O_O I don't think I've ever experienced such a hot summer since I've been born. Another good thing about Seattle is that if you get bored, you can take a two hour drive up to Vancouver BC, crossing the border into Canada...they have a bigger Chinese community there and when the exchange rate is good, it's not bad to buy CDs, movies, maybe even some clothes...mainly the reason why my dad chose to live here was because it would be easier to get to Vancouver. :D
I'll be applying to college in two years too, and I also plan to go to UW, but don't really know much about the college itself...I've heard that they've got a good medical program and I'm planning to start volunteering soon at the UW Medical Center. I think communications and language is not bad here either, I think my cousin is majoring in communications. Seattle is a very diverse city, so I guess language wouldn't be a bad choice for here. Maybe I'll take a look at my college brochures and get back to you on this.
Hope that helps and that I wasn't completely useless...^_^;;

really? i would assume that it's easy to find volunteer work anywhere =P maybe you could google it to see what's in your area or look in your newspaper. usually you can find a lot of stuff there. does your school happen to have a community service club? cuz our school has one called "memorial mustangs outreach bunch" or shorter, MMOB [memorial is the name of my school and the mustang is our mascot] and basically what the club does is go around the houston area and do volunteer work. you hafta accumulate like 30 hours and you'll get a stamp on your transcript to show the work you've done. it's something similar to key club, if you've heard of that.

The weather has been crazy here this past week/few days! For some reason I can't remember exactly when right now but it did happen! :D We had really strong winds...and lots of rain too! But the past two days have been very sunny and kind of warm. I wonder what kind of weather we're sitting in.
junnleenfaah - It seems like there's a lot of people searching for volunteer opportunities around here, so at times it seems a bit dry when you want to do some volunteering... Last summer I spent the whole summer looking for volunteer opportunities online as well...and nothing really turned up...
Nope, we don't have a community service club like that, but we do have a Key Club at our school...my friend is the club's president, but we haven't been doing so well lately... But I've spent December and January going through the application process for volunteering at the University of Washington Medical Center, so hopefully I will start volunteering soon...

Shu1Yah

LMAO ........ i dont think that's possible .. if you 'prefer wearing little or no clothing' whenever possible .. i dont think there's any chances.. but yeah, i guess a few days out of the summer might be very very hot, but it's like 4/10 chances. ^.^
i prefer the rain/cold over the heat, i can't stand the heat ><"

Sigh. That makes me sad.
Clothes are so restrictive. I walk alround in wife-beaters and shorts all day down here in the South.
Hell, I'm STILL wearing wife beaters even though it's November.

I'm not sure when I'm going to move over. Probably sometime before summer.
My dad says it's real pretty over there. I heard there were beaches?
Shu1Yah
01-05-2007, 08:56 PM
Yes, there are beaches here. tons, most ppl around Seattle live in the waterfronts since the scenery is excellent. you'll see people swimming A LOT during summer times.
hmm.. Washington if really a pretty place during Summer ..
