View Full Version : [SG Chat] Talk about your schools
I'm just kinda curious about all the schools you guys attend, so post here :)
As for me, I was from CHIJ Sec (Toa Payoh) until I graduated this year. For the first 3 mths next year, I'll be in National Junior College as a student in the Arts Stream. I *could* make it to Science, but I wanted to do Literature and all :)
So what schools are you all in?

Anyway my pri school is so ulu that no one knows it, i think. Canossa Convent Pri - affiliated to St Anthony's Canossian Sec, not to be confused with St Anthony's Canossian Pri.. See, told you you've never heard of it :P :bleh:

i'm from st.margaret pri and sec, which both the school's principals spent most of morning assembly telling us we're south-east asia oldest girl's school, and we ought to be proud of it etcetc. none of them realize the age doesn't matter, it's the school's results and students upbringing that affects the school's reputation, sheesh.
Yeah IJ spirit.
I'm from CHIJ Katong Convent Sec.
And St Margaret's Pri.
Hey Vivien, I didn't recall the principal from the pri sch telling us that we're the oldest sch every morning assembly(or maybe i wasn't paying attention? :bleh: )

wow... so many IJ people here! hmm..ava..what colour is your school uniform? think my friend was from there too, not quite sure.
It's blue.. not light blue, but sorta royal blue? It's the "convent" uniform, with the belt and all..

Hi!
I finished high school in a town of Makhachkala, it's in the south of Russia, my school didn't have a name, only a number, the number of my school was 13 :)
As for university, well, in Moscow i study in the Institute of Asian and African Studies, it's a department of Moscow State University. I study HIstory of Asian and African countries and Chinese language.
Here in Shanghai, i study at Fudan University.

Shanhaigirl: *coughcough* Have you checked to see which forum this thread was under before you posted? I believe they're discussing schools in Singapore here. *coughcough*
This is how the IJ uniform looks like:
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid95/pca43b850c8481078980e01f5d7cd56cf/fa2ac81c.jpg
(sorry little girls, for cropping your faces)
It's the same for every IJ school, the only difference lies in the badge.
For KC, we wear a metal pin-on badge. I think St Nics have the sewn-on cloth badge. I'm not too sure about the rest...
lattae
12-28-2003, 05:23 PM
that's such a cute way of doing away with the faces... *lol*
anyway, yes, that's the way the uniform looks... and if I am not wrong, IJ st nicholas is the only one with a sewn on badge... the rest of us use the 'metal' one... and boy, that stuff is sharp... I have a cut on my left ring finger from the badge when I was in primary sch (cos I was playing catching)... 3 stitches no less... Iwill never forget that badge... ever...

orh man.. why are you all from IJ schools? i feel kinda out of place then... well my parents wanted me to go to IJ TP but unfortunately i didn't get in... sighh..
anyhow i do share a similarity with all you IJ people in that i wore pinafores most of my school life.. that's why i sort of felt odd when i didn't wear one in JC.. no more belt to fiddle with in my boredom and i had to watch myself from eating too much or else my skirt would feel tight... hahaha.. in pri school my badge was sewn on too.. so in sec school i remember in sec 1 i would often end up poking myself with the badge too.. i heard that St Nicks uniform is different cos it's actually from a different family of schools from the other IJ schools.. can someone clarify this? i really wanted to go St Nicks after primary 6 actually.. cos it's near my place but oh well i changed my mind at the last minute and chose RGS instead...
lattae
12-29-2003, 05:40 AM
hmmm... that said... how do you ever poke youself with the RG badge? I find it pretty unpok-able
anyway... I love pinafores too... they are nice and comfortable... besides, they give you enough room to sit which every way you want... not at all restrictive... I miss those days...
just some months back my mum took out my old uniforms when clearing up the store... and I was so delighted to see that pinafore/blouse from my secondary school... I put it on and paraded round the house... I miss the uniform... at least I don't ahve to crack my head every morning trying to decide what I should wear...
to the rest reading this... don't shun this topic cos it's pretty IJ-oriented at the moment... come and share about your school... I am really keen to hear from everyone... the more unique the better

hehe... poke? I guess I can understand.. its like u have to be very very careful not to poke into ur.. coughboobscough is that rite? :glug: Oh.. mine in Bedok South Sec so nothing much to talk abt except that its a neighbourhood school .. ^^; but my uniform is white blouse and ... grey skirt or beige skirt.. haha.. when we dun buy it from the school but tailormade it... it becomes a school of different shades of colours.. interesting when gals wear white blouse and gets wet.. it becomes an eye candy for the guys.. some gals are still quite conservative coz their bra can be seen even though the blouse doesn't get wet and are quite fussy abt it... well... i like it coz it feels so comfy when it gets seasoned!! :P hot weather here.. and no air-conned classroom.. HOT!! :)

I am from Mayflower Primary School and Thomson Secondary School.
Well, as for my primary school, i must say i like it very much. I know a lot of friends there and i enjoyed the days spent there other than in secondary school. Sadly, it has shifted (though it's still somewhere in Ang Mo Kio) and the overall size of the school seems to have shrunk. The original site of the school has been rebuilt and became another primary school though.
As for my secondary school, the name does not exist anymore. Worse still, it also has shifted like my primary school (to SengKang) and changed its name to North Vista Sec.! The original place (along Thomson Road, it was First Toa Payoh Sec at a time, but i think it is now CHIJ, if i remember right), is used to be near CHIJ (Toa Payoh) and it's on a hilltop. I still remember the first day when i stepped foot at the main entrance with my mum to register and we were so shocked. :glug: There's a very long slope up the school and we were so tired for just climbing the slope~
And this spacious school consisting of 1 upper sec. blk, 1 lower sec. blk, 1 hall, 7 basketball courts and a huge field is where i probably spent the most memorable moments in my entire life, i guess. Everyone was so close as there were only 3 express classes for my level, and i had a lot of fun playing soccer, doing my ECA and chatting with them~ And after lessons, we would all hang out at Toa Payoh Central almost everyday then, it's fun~~ :)
I went back for the alumnus dinner last year when it changed its name into North Vista, and my friends and i realised we are the only young ones around!~ It was disappointing though because we don't feel any sense of belonging anymore (probably because of the name and most of our teachers are not around anymore). And the alumnus chairman wanted to pull us in to help out the alumnus, but we declined it.

Hi everyone. I am from GYPS and GYSS as they were petty close to each other, but the school is upgrading now so we are now studing in the old First Toa Payoh Secondary School. I didn't see any of u from this school and most of you are 15 or 16 here and are abt to graduate from your school but its ok we are still Jay's fans.

will you get to use the new facilities now that the old school is under upgrading... cos your old campus is a little well... old.
well... thing is... we should say where we are from and perhaps we can even find someone from our own school... ain't that pretty cool?

eh, yes... st nicks have the sewn on badge... but i heard that St joseph or some IJ school also recently about half a yr ago, also changed their badge to the cloth one.
dazzlette, regarding the matter on being from a different family as the other IJ schools, i don't think so... maybe cause no teachers really told us. guess its cloth badge for convenice or something?

lattae: arh! how can u say u like pinafores? totally hate pinafores man...
that's the result of being in this school... well... haven't seen anyone from here yet... but i'm from river valley high school... anyone from rv here? hmm... so far i dun see any... 2 years in rv and i can say that i'm officially NOT wearing pinafores after i graduate... rv pinafores must be the most disgusting pinafores ever created on earth! yeah... [eh.. anyone here from rvhs 2f'03? ] heez...
anyway, my primary school is... p1 and p2 i was in xingnan primary then i shifted house and transfered to princess elizabeth primary school~ yeah... anyone from there? then i can say "hi juniors~~" hahaz... peps' new principal no good one... glad i'm not there anymore... :bleh: [4c'99 or 6a'01 anyone?]

*meow> the rv uniform is called a pinafore too? hmmz... I won't really consider that one though... though its a one piece, but it lacks all the other attributes like the pleats, erm, blouse under tat kind of thing...
okay... perhaps I should define the type of pinafores I like is that one you wear over your blouse... like the IJ one (I am using IJ since most people knows what it is like)... you'd never have the problem of 'see through' and it's not warm at all (cos I never button fully beneath so it's kinda airy :bleh:)
anycase, I always thought that rv uniform's pretty smart looking... like some uniform groups one... pretty cool...
*meow
12-29-2003, 10:39 AM
yeah, lattae, it's called pinafore... :glug: stupid rite? since it doesn't really look like one.... dunno why they call it pinafore anyway... but this uniform hor, look smart only lorz... every rvian also dun like though, coz so stiff then very difficult to move one... then now they change the uniform le, the buttons all sewn-on one... so ugly...
[oops... like off-topic le! sorry!]

Hmmm, have you guys noticed that most of us here are from the northern area schools ... was it the water we drank or the rain that fell down on us that made us like Jay altogether? Hhahahhaha. By the way, I was from IJ Toa Payoh as well ... ahem ... your senior.

ahem, can anyone's uni beat the ugliness, see-throughness and uncomfortableness of the st.margaret's one? if you guys dunno, it's the one with green polka-dots and a tie which we use as a multi_purpose handkerchief. it's supposedly made of a material which allows ventilation, but result in translucentness covered only by the polka-dots when it rains or you sweat. i hated it!
* to my xue-mei, well maybe cos the sec sch emphasised more on it and i got coonfused, but surely you must know that we're the oldest girl's school in singapore?
Hey *meow, how does the RV uniform look like? Can you show me a piccie or something? Descriptions don't do it for me... cos I can't visualize. I end up getting stars in my head. :D
Yeah lattae, I love the pinafore.
I used to sit open legged all the time... and the skirt can even air your legs... LOL. But the wind is a nuisance though... we end up like Marilyn Monroe.
The tight skirts in JC were a chore. I have to keep a mental reminder to myself to not sit too obscenely. Hehe.. I'm rather uncouth.
vivien, yeah.. I know St Margaret's the oldest girl's school. And I agree with you on the uniform. It's so translucent! With the ugly polka dots and the useless tie. Belch. But I was stuck with green uniform for 8 yrs, 6yrs in pri sch... 2 green yrs in JC.
Oh yeah and do all the girl's school have this habit of changing in the classrooms?I know in St Margaret's pri and IJ KC, we do change into and out of PE attire in the classrooms. I made a habit out of that and everywhere I go, I tend to want to change in the public. Hehe. But I'm pretty good at worming my way out of my clothes, after 10 yrs of practise.
And I pretty much pity those girls that have to wear all white uniforms. Esp when it's wet.. it gets pretty translucent and a great chance for guys to ogle. And another major problem is when our good old aunt comes for a monthly visit.

yeah man!! pinafores rule!! :yeah:
hey lattae in fact i was 'poked' by the RG badge several times in sec 1 cos i didn't know how to put it on proper.. in primary school mine was a sewn on sort so i didn't have to bother with that.. plus the fact that in sec school i had to remember to put on that awful name tag as well or risk getting 'booked' by a prefect.. i dunno.. the more things i have to remember to put on the worse it is for me cos i'm pretty absent-minded and i tend to leave my stuff all over the place!!
hey *meow i didn't know they considered the RV uniform to be a pinafore too! then i suppose the SCGS one is also considered one too? :?
smilepiggy i always thought that St Nicks was different from the other IJ schools
1. it was more chinese-based (being a SAP school)
2. it affliated to Catholic High rather than SJI which the other IJ schools are affliated to
I think that wearing a white uniform is horrible.. sure it looks smart and all but it's rather troublesome.. i remember in JC when my blouse was white i always had to be careful for fear that i might accidentally spill some chemical or my lunch on me and dirty my blouse!! luckily my skirt wasn't white too!! i agree with ankh on white skirts.. they are terrible.. once i saw this nanyang girl who's whole skirt was well.. 'man jiang hong'.. aiyoh poor thing!! and it was not in school but in a public place!! but she was pretty cool about it.. she acted very normal about it!!
i see this discussion is turning into one about uniforms rather than schools itself.. nevermind.. it's still very interesting!!
HAHA yeah, discussion about uniforms are interesting.
White uniforms for guys are really nice. They just look good in them. ^^
Anyway anyone's school require them to wear name tags on their uniforms? I think some schools have cloth name tags sewn on the top of the shirt pocket. Like Monfort. I wouldn't want the whole world to know my name when I hang out after school. And I don't see the significance of it. Scared that teachers can't remember our names?
Something weird I saw was that people auction off their uniforms and PE attire online... I can't remember where. Eh I don't think anyone would consider going through all the trouble to bid for a second hand uniform.

interesting topic!
i was from Jin Shan Pri Sch (not to be confused with Jing4 Shan somewhere in the north?).
the school has ceased to exist and its compound occupied by Nan Hua Pri Sch now
i've a lot of fun there and those were the most carefree days of my life.
oh yes...and i met my best friend (ziwei) there hahaa... :hugz:
how could i almost forget to add that i hated the dirty green pinafore cos the material's really thick and after you perspire, there's this horrible white streaks appearing on it
RV's pretty nearby since i'm a west-lander.
used to go to RV for netball tournaments during my sec sch days too. those were the good old days.
i was from New Town Sec Sch, simple neighbourhood school, with smurfy uniforms :wink2:
the blouse being sky blue and the (thick) skirt white.
hallooo...anyone from the west??
EDIT:
not only gals "suffer" from the opacity of the white tops and bottoms, so do the guys. i can still remember clearly this guy classmate of mine who, on purpose, wore a pair neon green briefs which shone through his white pants, in my sec sch days. LOL...
he really enjoyed the attention :bleh:
as for pin-on badges, they are no good for an absent-minded gal like me haha. i was often badge-less and prayed not to be the class called for spot-check after assembly!

Anyway anyone's school require them to wear name tags on their uniforms?
Me ME Me! *raises hand* I had to wear nametags... when I was in sec one... I was still quite okay about wearing them outta school, but eventually I was so sick and tired of people staring at my nametag... the last straw came when this lady on the bus stared at my name tag non-stop from the time she got up till she got off... I was so frustrated I took it off...
oh... talk about bright luminous underwear... well... although we had pinafores... when we're in PE attire, all hell breaks loose... you can see all the nice fanciful bras... neon pink, polka dots etc etc... oh, and who can forget the sports bra... the nike ones with the big tick in front... was a lot of fun... until the school clamped down on us
catseyes: Thomson Sec? That's interesting. IJTP is currently occupying the site of the old Thomson Sec while the one in TP Lor1 is undergoing PRIME. (At least, they say they are. They haven't done anything to the building yet). The compound is HUUUUGE, and I have a tendancy of forgetting things from my classroom, which is all the way at the other end of the compound. I have to walk very very long distances everyday, not to mention the big "hill" to climb to the main gate.
As for my badge, my mom always has to remind me to pin it on :P :P

mushy i knew of a Jing Shan Pri School somewhere in Bishan so i suppose it's different from yours right? my friend was from there and i remember her uniform was green..
haha i know where New Town Sec Sch is!! my econs teacher was from there and it was pretty near my JC as well.. btw my econs teacher is a really slack fella.. but he claims he picked up these traits in his JC (which is AC btw) rather than in his sec sch..
it seems a lot of schools have closed down over the years.. i have a friend who was the head prefect of her primary school... but after she graduated it closed down.. so she would also say that the school couldn't survive without her.. haha :)
and about name tags... in sec sch i would usually take them out and put them into my pocket and i actually got 'poked' by them several times before!! OUCH!!
haha lattae remember later they had a rule about sports bras? only black, grey, beige and white... they told us that it was for the sake of the male teachers in our school more than anything else.. oh well.. i just most girls don't really mind wearing bright colours but for guys they will get teased by their friends..
haha how about guys who wear their boxers with pe shorts? i think it can be disasterous when their shorts are too short and their boxers show!! that's what happened to some guys in my school...

I go to Pulaski Middle School. This is gonna be my last yr in dat school and then off to high school. There are 3 security guards at my skool everday and one police officer. There are too many fights at my school so we need to have them. Mostly puerto ricans and blacks who get into these fights. (Not being a racist, just that most the time it is those ppl) In seventh grade we have to take this math test to determine what math class you get in 8th. Theres algebra, pre-algebra, and regular math class. I got into algegbra. :yeah: Lunch is free for those parents who dont earn enogh money. It has three floors.

hisashi
haha it's not that i purposely look in that direction.. it's my friends who point it out to me!! haha yeah i remember in JC it's the TCHS guys who are the first to change out of their uniforms after the first 3 months.. they claim it's because the LTs are very cold and that long pants are better.. but well.. i think most of us know why they want to change out..
lattae
yea it is really true that there were guys in my school who wore boxers in their pe shorts.. i think there isn't an explicit rule that states you can't do that.. but most guys don't do it anyway..
yea i agree a school changes a lot when the principal changes actually.. it's not so bad in the first 1 or 2 years after the change as the new principal probably doesn't dare to make so many major changes for fear of much protest from the student population.. but usually he/she starts to make more dramatic changes after that.. sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.. i can't really think of very concrete examples right now as i was quite lucky that i never really changed a principal long enough to actually see the changes for myself.. most of what i know is merely from hearsay from my juniors... anyone has experience?

Hmm this talk about changing principals strikes a familiar chord with me.
My primary school principal retired a year before I left, my secondary school principal left with me, my junior college principal retired when I graduated, and well, my university chancellor left while I was still slogging away on campus.
Oh and the last thing I heard, my university's Head of Department left because she couldn't handle her failed policies, which flopped in the industry, crapped up the career options for most of the graduates in my department, and made my discipline (i.e. course of study) a living joke and nightmare.

Hehe, 5 pages and I've only just seen this topic.
My primary school was Marymount Convent, we called the uniform 'graph paper' because it does look like one. I remember getting into trouble for losing my school badges and name tags all the time (they drop so easily!!), now they just get it sewn on. = = What I liked best was that we get to wear black shoes, way more convenient than white shoes.
After that, I went to SCGS. The uniform is erm, pretty unique huh? My IJ friends say wearing it is like wearing their pinafore without the white shirt.
After 10 years of wearing sleeveless uniforms, it took me a while to get used to the JC uniform cos I always felt warm in it.
I realised this has become all about uniforms.
Yeah the guys seem to like to 'flash' their boxers, esp those with some Tommy Hilfiger or other brands.
There's one guy in my class that wears his pants so low that it seems to be sashaying along with his hips as he walks.
And yes, the guys like to take advantage of the opacity of the white uniform. I keep staring at my classmate's striped boxers under his white pants...
And about changing principals...
It really changes the school culture a lot.
I entered secondary school with a new principal... she tried to get autonomous status for our school.
The most drastic had to be in JC. We were the first batch under the new principal. She implemented many new things, and meant what she said... unlike the previous 'dormant' one.
The 'desert-like' field was filled with lushful green, the toilets painstakenly rennovated, the canteen being furnished with the concept of a cafeteria...

im usually dormant in this forum but i felt that i HAD to reply to this as it sounds sooo interesting.. LOL !
I'm from Damai Primary school... in bedok reservoir... really spent lotsa happy times there... The uniform is rather unique too for the girl... A light blue sailor-esque blouse and a darker blue skirt..
After which... Serangoon Garden Sec... In Serangoon north.. Equally as happy time spent there and it was hard to bid it good bye for good !! Uniform's a simple unisex white shirt and dark blue skirt... Did i mention that my school's compound is HUGE ? It has like.... 6 Bball courts and a GIGANTIC field with a view.... U can see AMK , Bishan and even the CBD area on a clear day when you stand there. The field is elevated , you see. I guess the traits mentioned applies to only older schools like mine , 44 years of history !!

I was from Gongshang Primary, a school in Tampines that once boasted the largest enrolment in Singapore (when I was studying there, of course ): close to 3,000 primary school brats, i mean children, running all over the place. It was helluva crowded, there never was enough tables in the canteen, or enough clean cubicles in the toilet. Gah.
We wore pinafores too, but it was a different kind from the normal IJ ones; my pinafore didn't come with a belt. Shall go dig for some old photos and post them up  I never associated pinafores with comfort, contary to what somebody pointed out earlier. In fact, not having to wear a pinafore became a personal requirement when choosing a secondary school, effectively ruling out many girls schools, and that's how I ended up at..
Anglican High in Bedok; so I've been an eastsider all my life. It was a pure white uniform, not to forget the killer metal buttons that we had to put on every set of uniform  It was so troublesome, the taking off and putting on of buttons before washing and after ironing (I've been doing my own ironing since sec school, bloody proud of it too :shiny:)
Somebody mentioned about the colourful bras that showed up during PE lessons? My school had a more conservative approach to flamboyant underwear, being a Chinese Christian school and all: they banned bras that were lacy, black, red, basically whatever that showed up beneath our uniform was banned. (not sure whether it still is) Then I went from pure white to dirty green, that's my two years in
Temasek JC. Can't say I liked that place much, but admittedly I made some of my best friends in that hellhole...what do they call it? Bonding through adversity or something? Anyway TJC has become really vogue, I think its gone to the dogs :shiny:
aha, I had alot of fun reminscing about all those bad times, what an awesome topic

I've been an eastsider all my life.
I've been one too! until U life since the only two Us during my time were in the west.
I was from Red Swastika School (Bedok) for 7 years (pre-primary to P6). RSS wasn't the torture chamber that it is today. Didn't change classmates for all my 7 years (no elite class segregation), so all of us were close. Grew up together. Unfortunately we didn't really stay in contact since we parted ways after PSLE...
Then I went on to Tanjong Katong Girls' School where I spent 4 great years of fun, sweat and tears. I hated the green pinafore at first (may not have chosen TK if I had seen the uniform earlier) but I later grew to like it a lot since it's unique (my bro used to call us the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles :bleh:). But I confess that the Cedar Girls who used to board the bus at my school bus stop got all my envy coz' that's definitely my favourite Singapore school uniform.
Spent two short years in Temasek Junior College (Bedok again). So short that I can't remember much of it, except that the library was considered one of the nicest during my time. To me, it was definitely The Ideal Library since I could have undisturbed sleep during most of my free time.

agreed petheads... I think cedar girls has a really cool uniform... I wanted to go to that school (for the uniform of cos), but somehow I don't really know what went into my head and I went to.... anyway talk about staying in a part of the island most of the time... anyhow, it gets my vote for the coolest uniform in Singapore... and MGS gets my vote for being the most comfortable... I don't know why, but when I see the girls from MGS they look really comfy in that uniform.. it's like there is this built in 'loose-fitting' aspect (since you don't have to tuck in and all)... and it's pretty 'cooling' cos it's without the pinafore...
I stay in a pretty convenient place... very centralized and all, all my life I never had to travel more than 30 minutes to get to school... until uni... it's so far... I hate NUS...
aDrena> you have ot take the metal buttons on and off?? I always thought that it's like permanent... guess I am wrong...

wah. seems i am one of the few easterners too. up till now, i have not seen anyone from my school? where's all the folks living in the east??? :glug:
anyway, i was from chongzheng primary (not to be confused with Cheung Cheng) in tampines St 21. it was quite an old sch when i enrolled. all i remember was running around the sch field playing catching, marking bad remarks about the students from the sch beside us, Yumin Pri. How many pri schs actually have to share their sch fields? so we were quite naturally quite unhappy about sharing our field with them. my uniforms were light blue with a dark blue pinafore. (yesh. pinafores again) the openings at the sides makes developments in the chest area especially obvious esp during one's growing years. i think u all noe what i am refering to. hehe. remembered i used to tug at the sides becoz felt very uneasy. the sch is still in exisitence now but it was recently revamped and everything is so different now.
went to Ngee Ann Secondary School after that. One famous connection people make instantly when i tell them my school is we were connected to Ngee Ann City. in a way, yes. Ngee Ann Sec was only goverment-aided. We are actually financially supported by the Ngee Ann Kongsi (the grp behind Ngee Ann City, Ngee Ann Primary, Ngee Ann Polytechnic). so we got some extra facilities like an fully air-conditioned multi-purpose school hall. it was one of the reasons that attracted me to apply for that school. one landmark in tampines was our infamous raymond weil clock tower. it will chime every period to remind teachers to release students for the next class. but surprisingly, i never seen the clock work normally ever since i entered the school. haha. our Uniform was still blue. Light blue blouse with white for the collars and end of the sleeves for the girls. Blue shirts with white collars for the guys. Our sch name "NGEE ANN SEC" was sewn onto the top left hand side of the shirt. do away with the name tags after 1999. one silly thing we used to do was to walk around in ngee ann city in our PE attire. Light blue PE t-shirt with dark blue fonts proudly proclaiming "NGEE ANN SEC SCH". wishfully hoping for shopping discounts from Ngee Ann City's tenants. but sad lar. no such privelleges. haha. the things i used to do. :wstupid:

gee... you mentioned catching... it's like an all time fave among primary school kids eh?
did you guys play 5 stone/ 4 stone... I was an addict... though it was banned in my school, me and my friends kept looking for small corners to play our game... of cos we got caught every now and then... some my my 'stones' we confisticated... but I got new ones (thanks to the supply at the book shop)... what irony... the school bans the game, the bookshop sells the 'equipment' anyhow... 5 stones was the centre of my social life, esp upper primary... everywhere me and my friends went, we'll find a spot to play... we even had levels... and we continue the 'level' thing day after day for weeks until we'd lose count... those were the days... I miss primary school!

ahha. catching.. pepsi cola 123, 205. those were some of the games. 5 stones. i didn't really play because i was quite clumsy and couldn't play tyhe game well and soon got frustuated. end up not playing. *humph* the gyus loved to play pepsi-colas 123 especially stepping on each others shoes. esp those painstakely kiwi-whited every wk...
the sch bookshops sells almost everything that appeals to the kids then. remember those little erasers with different national flags on them? there was this little game where the winner is the one who manages to get his eraser on top of the rest. and the famous "I dun wan to friend u liao" phase whenever one gets into a arguement with the others. those were the daes. hehe. u're right.
I'm so happy this thread has been revived!
lattae: why was 5 stones banned in your school? That's really weird. It wouldn't cause any general harm unless the kids swallow them... :glug:
Yeah, there was catching, 5 stones, hide and seek(though there weren't much places to hide anyway), police and thief (some game where the catcher will tag you and you're frozen until someone tags u back).
And the one that we use a long string that's usually stringed up by many rubber bands... oh I remember now... it's called Zero point. We'll have to jump across the string, and it gets higher and higher...
Those were the days...
And yeah the bookshop sells plentiful of stuff. They seem to have everything.
My school requires us to wear name tags.. and we'll have to place an order in the bookshop when we need one. Sometimes you see funny orders like Mrs Dicaprio(Leo was famous at that time cos of Titanic and R&J) I miss those carefree days!! *feeling nostalgic*

Oh yes, recess time was the best in primary school.
We would spend like 5-10 mins eating as quickly as possible so that we could play whatever we wanted. The games that I can remember the most are 5 stones and zero point. We were so fond of playing 5 stones that we even played it on the back seat (the long one) of the school bus, imagine how hard it is to play when the bus is moving, haha. :D

Hmm.... I think I must have been an abnormal primary school kid, cos when I was in the lower primary, I usually stayed back in the room, trying to do my homework for the after recess lessons
When I got to the upper primary, kinda got hooked on reading and spent most of my time in the classroom (still!) reading books.....
I also play a little bit of catching, but my male classmates are a bit rough, and I used to end up with dirty shoes, ruffle pinafold, and sometimes, I lose, and use the ultimate tool of the female to try to avoid becoming it...... I  ...... but some of my male classmates got wise up to my tricks, and didn't care if I cry the house down......
When I was in secondary school, the school I went to had a primary section, and those lucky primary schoolers had a 45 minute - 1 hour recess.... I was green with envy!!!!!!

now i am studying in chung cheng high school (main), the main attraction of my school is the "lake", it used to be a hole caused by a bomb till rain water starts filling up that hole.... i think it is how it was formed..not sure, heard it from the ex students.... I really like it there cos it is really windy, and we wear white(transparent when wet) uniforms... as usual, the gals ended up like marlyn monroe when the wind starts blowing.... the guys really look good in white uniform, esp when they wear long pants...haha ^_^

when I was JC... had nanyang girls in my school, and one day, I was waking up the stairs and I noticed that the NY girl in front of me (was during the first 3 months when we still wore our sec sch uniform) had a japanese flag for a skirt (if you get what I mean)... I went up and went "excuse me, but I believe your skirt is soiled..." she was pretty cool about it, just quickly covered up with a jacket, whispered a thanks and moved off... bravo  I would have freaked...

I was from CHIJ St. Nicholas Primary, went on to study there again during my secondary school years, and am currently rotting my life away in Jurong JC, and I haven't stopped wondering why the heck I'm stuck here, but nevermind.
Heh we used to play Pepsi Cola 123 and five stones in primary school too, especially five stones. It was quite a craze among my classmates when I was in primary five and we had five stones marathon... haha it was fun and I was really good! Hopscotch was popular too and St. Nicks made things easier by pasting tape on the floor for the outline. Not sure if they're still there though. I don't intend to go back anyway.
Macdawn: Actually any light-coloured skirt is quite suay when one is suay enough to stain. Last year I stained my skirt, and because JJ's uni is khaki-coloured, it was quite obvious. luckily my friend had a long sling bag for me to cover it up all the way to the toilet, which is quite near. Sucks being a girl sometimes, eh? Hehe.

Hey 学妹,大姐姐 here!!!
You must be mistaken, I am not from a school with light-coloured skirt... Me from same secondary school as you..... When Mrs Huang was still principal.... remember her?
Don't worry about what you are doing in JJ. I was from the Special Stream in St Nicks, but dropped to the Express Stream when I was in Sec 3. I was pretty screwed up then.....
I was posted to YJC when I completed my O level, and I was the only St Nicks gal around. I was really lonely, and wondering what the heck I was doing there? But, guess what, my days in YJ was the best time of my life. After being screwed up for the large part of my secondary life, YJ was a total change of environment.
I guess being in the 'reverse top 3 school' relieves us of all pressure. We are not really expected to do spectularly. As long as we get the required 2 A, 2 AO passes, the school is happy.
During my days in YJ, the school gave me a lot of freedom, allowed me to do Chemistry at A level, even though I only did Combined Science at the O's, and taught as at a pace we understood. They even allowed me to do Chinese at A levels..... I did well enough to get into the course of my dreams in the U, environmental engineering. Not too bad for a gal whom many teachers in St Nicks think wouldn't get into the U.
So, don't worry too much hisashiluv14, try to find your bearing in JJ, and see if that is what you want in life. The most important thing is to know what you want to do qith your life, and once you find that direction, you will naturally know how to work towards it......

I guess one of the main reason I felt so terrible was when I was dropped to the Express Stream, the school also decided that my results was not good enough to do pure since, and made me do combine science + Home econs!!! I despite getting 49.0 for my overall marks in Sec 3, I also got an A1 for my science, and they simply refused to let me do pure science!!!!!

boy, I was always popping over to the sec sch side, pretending to be one of them in the canteen... Hey fellow St Nicks gal! And to smilepiggy and Angel on clouds too!
Anyway Macdawn, yes I remember Mrs Huang! She left in 2000, I think, when I was in Sec. 2 and I couldn't get used to the new principal at all. For one, she talked a lot less than Mrs. Huang and for another, preached a lot more, and she didn't have the "motherly touch" that Mrs Huang had going on. I used to really dislike her, but looking back, she's not bad... at least not as screwed up as JJ's principal.
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it, but it's quite different from me. For one, I'm in the Arts stream and the admin has just scrapped Art as a subject for this year's Year Ones and reduced the Literature cohort to a mere two classes. To me, that is just bloody screwed up. Won't go into an essay-length rant but I can't stand the way literature and art and basically the Arts stream is treated as something unimportant in JJ. I mean, if they still wonder why their GP passes are so pathetic (75% or so, I think), they need to look no further.
I dunno, the fall from the grace thingy is pretty hard, and for me, the fact that I was from St. Nicks makes me pressurise myself into getting good grades, in a way that I never cared about when I was in SN. Makes sense?
Oh well, it doesn't matter, I'm out of there at the end of this year anyway. I have an ex-classmate in YJ though, and I heard that she got retained... Whatever it is though, glad that things worked out for you. :) Actually when I was in school there wasn't much of a difference between the special and express stream (I was in express all the way), except for the higher chinese component, but I think I knew this girl in the express stream who took higher chinese. Really??? I mean during my time, the only difference between the Express and the Special Stream was the chinese component...... That was another thing I missed about the Special stream...... I love Science, and I also love Higer Chinese, but that didn't matter as much as the Combined-science insult...... I was best in science in sec 3, but that didn't convince them I was good enough to take pure science...... got best in science for sec 4 too....
Best thing about YJ, they let me take pure science, and I took chinese at A level.... hmm.... did want to go back and thumb my nose at Mrs Chong (the vice-principal, who refused to let me 'upgrade'), but she was my friend's mom, so.......

Yeah I love chinese!!!!! I really dun understand why some people hate it so much? As for people who think they will not be using chinese after they leave school.... they will regret it!!!
I mean, we are chinese, if we don't learn chinese, what can we be proud of, as a race and culture? And, living in a non-chinese speaking family is not really a good reason for not learning chinese, because when I was in SNG, I've a really good friend Shobagunaradum (I think that's how her name is spelt, I always called her Shoba), who is India, who speaks and writes chinese as well as I do, and nobody in her family speak or even knows a word of chinese.
But I must confess, I took Chinese A mainly because I loved the more freedom given to the composition paper. I love writing..... I still do, that's why, my new year resolution is to set up a proper website for my writing.....
My chinese literature wasn't that good, cos my lit teacher was the most boring chinese teacher ever! But the short stories, medium length story was pretty interesting. I'd never have read them so thoroughly had I not taken the subject.

Most pple can't stand chinese, and can't wait to stop learning it in jc. i never understand why...chinese literature is just so interesting!
Haha I used to be one of those people, despite my dad being Taiwanese and my mom Chinese-ed (she was from St. Nicks too!). Quite strange that I'm more proficient in English than Chinese, but that's just the way it is. I don't know, Chinese can be tough when one is not interested, and I wasn't very interested in the past, which I'm regretting now as my standard of Chinese is damn lan and I'm beginning to feel the Chinese-pride thing Macdawn talked about more and more nowadays.
I like Chinese but not Chinese lessons and I can't wait to drop it 'cause it means free periods for me, and my timetable is so screwed up that I only have one free period per week (excluding lunch breaks). But yeah, Chinese is great. I'm damn proud of my race and language and all.

I was from CHIJ St. Nicholas Primary, went on to study there again during my secondary school years, and am currently rotting my life away in Jurong JC, and I haven't stopped wondering why the heck I'm stuck here, but nevermind.
hehe...i am in JJC for the 3 months..
so who are u?

Eh? You mean you're there NOW? Why dude why? Get out ASAP, trust me, you won't regret it.
Anyway if you were in family one during orientation, I was one of the F1 OGLs. :) Doesn't really go with my hating the school mentality but it was great skipping classes.
So who are YOU?

no choice...my prelim result is really lousy
13 points only
and JJC is really near my house and i believe it is myself that matter the most...not the school.
i heard that the teacher there is really hardworking :?
i am in F3 OG 14...so guess who am i
BTW
just found out today
the PE lesson is really hard and that suck :-x :-x
so u are F 1 OGL...that really very easy to guess who u are :D :D
and i see from one of ur thread that ur teacher use jay songs to teach chinese...that freaking cool...so who ur chinese teacher::
hisashiluv14
01-28-2004, 09:49 AM
Eh, 13 points is okay mah. I got that for the O Levels which explain why I'm stuck there. Bleah. Which secondary school were you from?
Um, not sure how hardworking the teachers are. Haha but anyway I'm in the Arts stream so I won't know your teachers anyway, unless you're unlucky enough to get my stupid GP tutor as your GP tutor but I think she only teaches year 2s so you're quite safe. :)
OG 14? What's your OGL's name? Your family head is my classmate and I think got three F3 OGLs in my class.
Yes PE sucks, especially when you go up to Year 2. The teachers are insane. But you can basically cut PE for first three months and get away with it so make full use of it. I mean last year first three months my friend attended less than five PE sessions and nothing happened to him, so...
My Chinese teacher is Mr. Tay. He's this young guy. But today he didn't use any Jielun songs, which means I was bored during lesson, as usual. Oh well.

MR TAY!!!!!!!!
is it tay theng hwee???
he is my chinese teacher too...
and i also have a chinese lesson today.
but no jay songs but a lot of Sun yan zi songs.
i thought if we miss one PE lesson...we have to run 2.4km??? :? :?
hisashiluv14
01-29-2004, 11:16 AM
Yeah same Chinese teacher. Heh what are the odds? :D
Well I complained to him today about the absence of any Jielun songs, like, "Lao shi, wei she mo mei you Jielun de ge? Wo bu yao shang ni de ke le lah!" And he said that the songs were chosen by the school... What the hell man! Why can't he just play Long Quan and San Nian Er Ban like he wanted to!
Did he play all those old old Chinese songs for you? I think my ears were bleeding when he did that.
Anyway yeah you're supposed to run 6 rounds if you miss PE but sometimes they'd forget. And if you can get your classmate to mark your attendance, nobody would notice your absence. :D

02-05-2004, 11:32 AM
wow, i cant see that your teacher's kinda diao huh? i guess few teachers would owe Jay's album would they? at least not in my school, i guess.my chinese teacher just asked us if we know this 90's group 'beyond' the chinese grp..and we are like . 'a bit long ago right?' man, he should get any jay album . he'wld be too impressed to ever ask about beyond again! haha

Eh? Mr. Tay played San Nian Er Ban??? He asked me to sing that song in front of my class like a week or so ago but he didn't play it in the end. So disappointing. :( By the way what class you in?
Yeah he said he likes the Long Quan lyrics too. Someone should introduce him to "Yi Fu Zhi Ming" and the wonderful "Ban Dao Tie He", as in the book. I think Fang Wen Shan is damn good.

U all noe what?!?Cos my whole claz noes that im crazy bout Jay...
then that day when our chemistry teacher into claz and ask me to present my answers on the board, the claz shouted "Jie lun,Jay!!"
I cant stop laughing...u noe what my teacher said?
She said "Whats that?"
Oh my god....im really speechless...but i cant blame her lah...cos she's not that young...hahah...

02-13-2004, 02:18 PM
I'll just add on to what *meow said...
beyond was really a big hit in the canto pop scene... they wrote their own songs etc... their canto hits were fab (some of it they did a mandarin version)... they are very much talented... just think of them as a early 90s, HK mayday equivalent...
since the death of one of the members, the group went on decline...
some of their more recent (recent being later 90s) chinese big hits include Paradise etc... you can still find their songs in KTVs
guess my age nearer to that era... but if the teacher you guys are talking about is late twenties/early thirties, they might have been a beyond fan... which is why...... just like if how some of us here become teachers 10 years down the road... I think we'd be making our students listen to our "preferred" music, like jay

I'm from St margaret's pri. and sec.. Primary sch in St margs was fun.. Pri. 5 and Pri.6, i was in a pure chi class.. Means everybody speaks chi and there are no malays or indians except for those who take chi as their 2nd language.. Our form teacher is chinese too and talks to us in chinese.. Totally diff from the other eng speaking classes..
But i regretted going smss.. one factor is the distance.. i Have to wake up at 5! and when i reach sch, its almost time to start classes.. Another factor is that i don't quite like the people there.. My class was a dead class, in which there were cliques(sp) everywhere and hardly participate together as a class.. Nobody bothers to listen to you or the teachers.. I pity the monitress.. Whenever she wants to get our attention, she have to scream. And our class basically hates people to scream so people will start retorting back.. And therefore nobody wants to be the monitress and those appointed will back out.. Oops, we're suppose to talk about our sch not our class..
Anyway, not trying to bring dw the sch's name.. overall, its ok, except for the usual 'we are the oldest girls sch in SEA, so behave yourselves when you're out....... and so on'

I am from Ang Mo Kio North Primary (Just wondering, anyone from there too… graduated in the Year 1999), now it's demolished and merged with another two schools called Anderson Primary. And I just graduated from a neighbour school, Yio Chu Kang Sec (Anyone from there?). Currently, I am waiting for posting to a Poly… which I think should be Nan Yang coz all my choices are Nan Yang.
I realized a lot are from CHIJ schools isn't it?
The days I spend in my school were great. In Primary school, we often gossip about idols, well those time Jay had not entered my life~ and we will played different sorts games ranging form five stones to board games after the exams end. My teachers were pretty funky esp my form teacher Mr. Fong.
Our last year over there, when we played card games, okay we admit we gamble, he just open one eye and close the other. I love the buildings of my school though it's old… I just simply miss the nasi lemak of my school. Simply delicious…
My Sec. school was much more fun… I got to tease a male teacher of mine.. he teachers maths and he can't really speak clearly… so we will feign his way of teaching…
I loved my Sec one Chinese teacher… he was the one who brought interest to me…
He will not talk about the things in textbook but others too~ ohh I just love him.
He will tease me and I will just tease back. I remembered that those days, the Chinese class would be full of laughter.
Hope I didn't go off topic… if yes~ do tell me…

weird teachers are like there to spice up school life I guess
on chinese teachers, you can't imagine the absolute shock I had when I walked into chinese class in JC and realise I can't understand a single thing on the board. Only 15mins late, I came to realization that he was writing "downwards" like in tradition chinese writing  I almost fainted. is he trying to challenge my already very weak written chinese??
and of principals, I can always remember my principal in JC, he's such an endearing figure... he's really like the papa of the school. Alwasy remember the times when the entire school joins him in the "chant"... cos he's got this habit to go "Girls and Boys, you are all mumbers of the XX farmali" (in his not so perfect english, xx is the school name) and his other favourite "time fries, so you better ketchup".. but he's nice though, which is why we still love him I guess.

PE teachers... the run and run thing... I have that same experience... it's like my JC teachers fall into 2 categories... young and able, and the old and pot-bellied. needless to say, the latter will stand around and "cheer" us on while we run

Teachers except girls to do standard guys push up, I think thats impossible for me, I think if this event really happens, its only during punishment when the girls don't listen to what teachers said or do things that teachers don't like. I have seen our school's discipline master, wrapping masking tape around a pple's mouth just to stop the pple from talking.
I think why your school don't allow pure literature is becos only a few pple intersted in this subject, so the school can't form a class for this subject, just like our school, for me, I have a friend who likes literature too but she is forced to take other subjects becos our school don't allow this subject.

Heh.. i got a maths teacher who always make us rush through our maths. Everyday when he comes into the class, the first thing he would say is, "class, we are already 5mins late, we have to rush as we are already behind time!" Sometimes my class likes to disturb him... When he gives us a challenging sum, he would say, " This is a very tough question. I don't think many of you can solve it. I purposely set it very difficult numbers for you." then the class would say, " Waa..teacher, you so smart ah.. Know how to create so difficult question..So difficult that we all cannot solve ah.." But in actual fact, many of us could solve it. Everytime when he is teaching halfway, he always say, "Understand?" or "Right?" So throughout the whole maths lesson, we have been saying "Yes." repeatedly.. Then one day, the maths teacher was getting annoyed with us as we kept saying yes and yes. So we said, "Ya!" Then again, he was fed up with us for keep saying "Ya" so we said,"Oh.." or "Yup.." He was angry with us and asked us not to give weird replies.. One day, when he came into the class, he was very different. The moment he came in, he said, " Class, i find that we Singaporeans are always rushing.. We are always so busy.I think we should relax and not rush so much." Then, when maths lesson was ending, he said, "Class, my health is getting worse. I think i cannot teach you all anymore. I need to rest. From tomorrow onwards, a new teacher will be teaching you." We felt a little sad, as he actually was going to retire.. But later soon enough, we liked the new maths teacher more and began to like maths...

wah bluejay... you guys really bully your teacher man... I know how some teachers are not so good... but aiyoh.. you guys drove him into retirement?!?! naughty naughty...
I think it's hard being a teacher. if you really put up challenging problems, then the class will complain they cannot do. If its too easy, then it's not challenging enough. If teacher checks if you guys can follow, he's annoying; if he doesn't, then you guys'd say he rushing without the class understanding... poor teachers...

When we were in sec 2, he was our chi teacher again... We often luff at him... I rem once we luff at him when we knew he fell down de bus... He oso retired in June dat yr and we all felt so happy... Den came another chi teacher which we oso didnt listen to and at de end oso dunno went where... I think is my klz prob dat we didnt like chi... But when everyone didnt listen to a teacher, dis oso shows the "unity" of de klz?
We didnt felt so bad as de chi teacher were not sad dat he was going to retire... He was so glad and proud... But dese were all during sec 2 days... Now i think my klz wudnt treat a teacher so badly (cuz we have grown up? ) But we still haf fun with most of de teachers!

yap~ it seems that my schoolmates are not interested in the literature... that's why...
anyway... bullying teacher is part and parcel of scholl life. and i bet it's fun. i didn't fell alseep in my chinese class in sec 1 but in sec 2,3,4 i fell alseep becoz the teacher is too boring. i just studied by myself.
bluejay - ur maths teacher sound like my. but he had transferred to another school... it's like your school... i don't know. is his name Mr Ting?
because he is the same exactly...
my class only bullied a teacher...
my sec 1&2 math teacher
whenever he asked do we understand?
even we understand... we will said no... and he will explain again. and popped that question. we will put our innocent face and said no.... hee... he got flared up one day... then he leave the class.
and he can't speak properly... he scolded us one day and none of us in the class was listening and some were even talking loudly. we really laugh when he shouted "go to the field and run"
coz the field was demolished as our school underwent renovation.
Then he just stormed out of the class...
my class was full of devils... but the devils were broken up when we went into sec 2 :wink2:

i think thats why most of us flung in our 'o' levels. maybe this is what they meant by retribution :wink2:...my class is classified as the class of the 'satans'... :bleh: almost all the teachers hate our class except ofcourse our art teacher... she's very patient with us. she's like our sustitute mother. we truly respected her.she sacrifice alot for us. one example is that she would delay her pregnancy just to guide us...

Hmm.. on the topic of teachers, I had my fair share of being mean to our teachers too. My whole class actually. When i was sec 1, my form teacher was so angry that she just stormed out of the class. We didn't want to chase after her at that time, we just went, 'Childish eh, since she wants to go, let her' But then again, the monistress had to chase after her. Anyhow, she loves throwing tantrums, just like a kid.
Another was my S.s teacher, a male. He's small size and looks like a little kid, maybe thats why others bully him. Not my class, but the class next door was bad. They didn't pay attention to him, talked, played during his class, homework not done.. In the end, he..... cried..... Imagine, a male teacher crying. Heard that he was seen weeping in the staff room. I think our class sorta pitied him, so we actually behaved during his lesson.
My chinese teacher too, during my sec 2 yrs. He's always talking to himself. He doesn't scold us when we talk, he was so so nice. :) But my classmates made use of his kind side. During his lessons, they will just walk to the back of the classroom and sit and chit chat!! or smtimes, hide in the toilet. At the most, he will say go back to ur sit la, later the principal sees. But nobody bothered. He's retired alrdy, but he's really nice. Aww, one of the best teacher i ever had, one who doesn't scold you for not handing up hw, for eating in class, for talking during his class, and even tells us true ghost stories. :bleh:

Some of my teacher are really smart, they don't really pick on us and if we do something mischief, they don't even bother about us as they say that they still get their salary and nothing will happen to then but if we mischief, we will affect no one but ourselves because we don't listen to what the teacher said and we will fail all the test because of this.

The principal and teachers may suck big time, but think: at least you have your friends in school to sticky by right? As for me I really can't stand 'yAya' teachers. Like those in my JC. Just because their brains are chock full of 'cheem' words and a myriad of colourful vocabulary they take to criticising us using terms we can't even comprehend. And are they sarcastic. HaiZzZ... On the topic of teachers, I have never really hated or disrespected or plain cannot stand a teacher until I came to JC. There's this completely insufferable history teacher in my school who completely SUCKS. Seriously. she is the worst teacher ever. She's ineffective, she gives incomprehensible notes, she is rather demented and her lessons are just redundant. She doesn't have a clear lesson plan and nobody knows what the hell she's doing. Most of the time, nobody cares. At least, I don't.
She used to teach the Year 2s paper one history but luckily that burden is shifted to the other history teacher in my school (there are only two; not difficult to guess, my JC is bottom five). Reason? That stupid old hag just cannot make it lah. wah lau seriously she asked me to go detention I didn't even care. She can scrunch her face up and attempt to scold me and I'd just walk away. Haha. She's the pits man, really.

Looks like many posts here are because they hate their schools. Teachers and DM sometimes are fiece or strict are not because they like to do that to us but they want all the students to behave well and follow the rules and sometimes its us that makes them become so strict. We are sometimes taking advantage of the teachers so they become so strict that everyone hate them.

Well.. on the topic on students not respecting teachers.. I'll have to agree...
I'm from a secondary school and most of the time, my chinese teacher is usually banging on the board and the tables, and screaming at students. No one wants to listen. The only teacher the students are probably scared of is the discipline master. He carries a cane around and never hesitates to use it.
Students nowadays are getting spoilt and they're getting rude. Just last month, my classmate was fighting in class and when the teacher scolded him, he started crying. Then he scolded the teacher: F*** you! Chee by*! He was lucky to have gotten away with a caning..

It is rather unfortunate that the tolerance and respect levels between teachers and students alike have somewhat gone downhill over the years. I believe those of us here who are past their teenage years should be able to attest to this.
It all depends on how we would wish to envision our teachers to be like. Our expectations of them, and their expectations of them -- all these dynamics make the fine difference between a wonderful school experience and a horrible one, don't you all think?
What do some of us here do if we experience a teacher whose lessons are dry and boring? I have been through countless such teachers before all these past years and even in university (trust me, university professors are mostly like this =p), but sometimes I ask myself whether that was what I wanted. Did we have a choice in choosing those subjects/lessons? If the subject content was dry and uninteresting, what would be our best way out?
Should we sink to the bottom, do badly or fail the subject altogether (and risk having to do the same boring stuff all over again during revision)? Or should we fight and do our best and prove to those teachers that "hey look, you suck big time, but I can still get my grades because of MY own hard work" (of course we shouldn't say these directly into their faces though I can imagine those priceless expressions :D).
In the end, when we look back at ourselves and what we have done, or how we have performed and developed, I do think we should ask ourselves a question like this -- whether or not we could have put in more effort and be responsible for our own learning? If we need teachers to lead us by the nooses, asking us to do this and not being able to do that, we wouldn't like it at all, right?
From what I understand, our teachers do have their own schedules to complete, administrative things to perform, and of course, targets to realise and achieve. Sometimes it might not really be their intentions to make things boring for us, but because of the nature of the subject contents and time constraints, certain procedures have to be partaken "as is". They still have a job to do, so let us respect them, whether we really like them or not. And respecting them means learning to behave in a proper manner expected of someone our age, not talking back to them and even more importantly, not to swear and cuss at them.
There are a few of my past teachers and professors I'd like to stare down, but I'd always remember that small handful of nice teachers who have really made my school life enriching and wonderful all this while. We usually remember one single bad incident rather than countless good deeds, so let things work out this way too regarding good or bad teachers.

Hehe, completely agree with you here lepencil. Here's where I boast a little: like I said in my previous post about that insufferable History teacher, she can't teach, she gives shitty notes, I cut her lectures, I even cut her tutorials and I am not mentally present in her classes when I do attend anyway, but for my Year 1 JC promotional exams, I was half a mark shy of an A for her paper.
I think she hates me for being such a truant but she still gave me that almost-A grade anyway. I mean, if you have the content, if you have the brains, if you study, no reason why you shouldn't pass with flying colours. Coming to JC I've learnt one important thing: Screw the teachers. You depend on yourself and nobody else. the teachers don't care about you. Ultimately, it's your work that counts, what you want that will pull you through.
I don't do anything for Maths in school but I have my smart cousin to tutor me every Sunday evening (5 to 7 and I have to go all the way to Kembangan from like, Bt. Batok) and I do my work at home after tuition so I haven't failed any tests ever since starting tuition with him.
So moral of story? It's all in your hands people. Make things happen for yourself. Don't depend on the teachers. They just want to get paid. :)

Hi! I'm new here... haven't read every single post in this topic, so forgive me if I'm way out of point :) Was browsing when I came across hisashiluv14's comment about don't depend of teachers and that they just want to get paid? Well, I think we can't ENTIRELY depend on teachers. They are just there to guide, so we got to do most of the work because at the end of the day, we are the ones taking the exams and not the teachers. Besides, I think many of the teachers are teachers because they need to fulfill their scholarship bond. So, in such situations, we can't exactly expect them to pour their heart and soul into their job right? :)
Anyway, that was just my two pence worth...

Haha moonsilk it's the other way around for me. I hated my stupid timetable when I was in Year 1 last year. I had to stay until 5.15 on FRIDAYS for PE! An utterly useless subject and a total waste of time! But this year I can just use the A Levels as an excuse to skip PE. :)
Li Wei, block timetable as in you have two periods of a subject together and not one period, so instead of one period of Econs followed by Maths, you have two periods of Econs followed by two periods of Maths. It's because of this new timetable that I end quite early nowadays. Who's Mr Chu? what's your subject combination anyway.

don't complain abt the security cameras as my secondary school does it too. when we first heard it, it's like the school is going into every inches of our school lifes. but stop and think. this is to prevent any unathourised or those with a 'bad motive' to move in the school and even they move in, they will be caught on the camera.
it's for our own good.

oh, regarding the bra issue, my pe teacher would hint hint us that "a bit bright" they haven formally address the problenm for many years, but i heard from my firends that they did said something before i joined the school regradingthe colour, like white or grey only kind of thing...but no one really bothered much now.

For gals who feel insecure with the nipple sticker, check out this sponge-cup bra thing at Hemisphere in OG Orchard. It's just 2 shapely cups that you slip under your clothes. No stickers or glue involved but it stays on much better and you'll prob look like you have a bigger cup size too! :brows:

haha... i was from Holy Innocents' Primary and HIgh School... Then NYJC.. :D
The days from primary schools were... so wonderful... playing around during the recess and i still remember those games! (Pepsi Cola 123, 205 etc... ) I din managed to finish every page :bleh: but... well... i'll just continue...
i was a hyper-active kid in school... i had abt 4 CCA when i was in primary school and about 3 in Secondary School... Erm... in the end, i am left with one CCA, Air Rifle Club when i went to JC and continued it...
the days were so wonderful... esp. sec school... my teachers then asked us to cherish the days there as it will be the most wonderful days of our lives.. i am glad i trust her and had lots of fun.. and caused some little troubles to her... haha..
JC... :hmm: it was okay.... but i din really had fun... kinda the lowest point of my life and i still can't find out why... But i managed to make some real friends there.. well... that's abt it...
Something sad though... all my schools have been rebuilt!!! the Primary is not recognisable so is the Junior College. And my Sec school is being torn down as we talked here...
I have made a few visits back after renovation.. but it is less 'homely' so... i dun really intend to go back there again... except to chat with my teachers... i had quite good relationships with them.. :)

JC... it was okay.... but i din really had fun... kinda the lowest point of my life and i still can't find out why... But i managed to make some real friends there.. well... that's abt it...
same here petricia... same here... I had some fun but those were 2 empty years for me...

hi smilepiggy!!! we have so many st nicks alumni!!! wow... :excited: she still comes back? does she still call you guys bao bei?? and is... ms monica toh still around?? last i heard some ang-mo guy married her... hahahahaha.. and we were still amazed that someone would actually want to marry her...
yar, she still comes back and calls us bao bei and we'll go oei. :) ms monica toh? hmm .i'nm not sure who she is but i sure haven heard her ard the secondary session. cos i wasnt form st nicks pri. :D
Hi smilepiggy! Are you still studying in St Nicks? Update us! How's the school like now? What's all the surveillance camera thing about??? Is it true that there are alot of *gasp* St Nicks ah-lian now???
i'm still studying.its my last year... the school's okay i think...which aspect of the school do you mean? :? the survellance cam? oh i heard it was just for the safety of the students cos it was reported that there're strangers coming into our school and stuff. so now all visitors have to sign in at the father barrer counter. there was once where there was word that there's this guy (rumoured to be like in woman's clothes) hiding in the toilet and stuff and i happen to stay back after school for CCA that day and there was liek news to be careful when we are leaving liek walking out of school in grps and stuff. den the next day the principal mentioned somethign liek to be more vigilant and stuff (minus the dressed in woman's clothes part) not sure if they've caught that guy. but it's errie enough,
st nicks ah lian? hm. where do you hear it from? :brows: aniw, i think its not the ah lians ba, more like those more rebellious people. of course, the general school populaton os quite okay one, just a few of those who act cool or wants to be rebellious only. :D

St Nicks sounds the same to me then!
Cos I heard that the surveillance cameras were installed cos some gals were caught fighting! Guess that was just a lousy rumour...
The man-in-a-woman's-clothes sounds super off! Freaky...
