Jay's Bangkok Concert, attracted fans by lovely sound.

Translation: Phyxius - www.jay-chou.net
Few days before Xmas, Taiwan pop singer Jay Chou changed 20 costumes, mainly casual outfits, before Thai's 5000+ fans. In the 2 hr concert concert, Jay's sound, accompanied by other music was drowned by the fans screming of "Jay".
In the stadium which can hold up to 10,000 people, Jay's concert was delayed for about 1 and an half hour. Groups of Thai boys and girls was already waiting to get in, some even was too tired and sat on the ground. Mostly held glow sticks and some held boards written 'Jay'.
When allowed to enter, every doorway was pushed and shoved, even media people was forced to enter with the audiences.
Jay only had fancy costumes twice, later was followed by casual outfit
s, including tracksuits etc. After every 2 songs, he changes. Since Xmas is coming up, Jay especially sang a song wishing all the fans.
No matter whether slow or fast music, Jay sang with enthusiasm. Thai fans started screaming "Jay" when they hear a familiar song. While showing films of Jay learning the piano when small, he played the piano and sang. Fans was drunk in the sound of the piano. Later under the accompany of two guitarists, Jay started performing after he introduced them.

Actually it's not half that's filled. It's more than half, but still you can see a bunch of empty seats. And for the standing seats there's quite a space left also. I kinda feel bad when thinking how Jay would feel cos in other countries the stadiums were packed. Well, I think the major reason is language difference.

do chinese artistes usually have concerts in Thailand? if jay can fill more than half the stadium in a country that usually doesn't have chinese artistes performing than it is quite an achievement already i suppose...
EDIT: after reading the reviews by the people who actually attended the concert it seemed pretty successful anyway.. i guess it's better to have a half-filled stadium with enthusiastic fans than a filled stadium with lukewarm fans..

YEAH! I agree with ya.. LOL. With only half-filled stadium with all the enthusiatic fans is alot better than a filled stadium with only lukewarm fans! However, a filled stadium with all the enthusiatic fans is da BEST. Kekeke..

Hmm, or maybe the tickets are way too expensive tt some fans cant really afford or they live real far away? I went thailand once only and some places are really deserted. [no offence though]

Thanks for the article, Phyxius! :flowers:
:hmm: I'm just wondering though... in general, how popular are Chinese artists in Thailand? And how popular is JAY in Thailand?
I'm jealous. Jay sang a special Christmas song for them? I want to hear it.

half full stadium but totally filled with warmth for jay ! good thing is mainly the standing seats that are empty - so jay can see his fans real close up.
considering the language barrier - 5000 enthusiastic thai fans buying pretty pricey tickets --- thailand does have wonderful jay fans .

As much as i hate to say it, but F4 is the MOST MOST popular Chinese Artist in Thailand. And thanx to them, they were the onez that opened the Thai;s music horizon into excepting artists from their neighboring countries. After F4 fever went a standstill (coz ppl found out that F4'll not be holding a concert in thailand anytime soon) JAY CHOU (our hero) was known after the MTV Asia Awards, and the Panasonic CM. Back TO the Past MV was considered the MOST MOST popular MV of Jay, EVERYBODY LOVED that song simultaneously LOVE JAY too. After the birth of Yeh, Hui Mei his 4th, the MV for In Father's Name, was also in the spotlight and most mentioned in music channel live programs. Soon, Wang Lee Hom, Kiki and Se7en was added the Asian sensation.
Then Channel 3 showed "The One" concert from Taipei, Taiwan, and i guess that annexed how HOT and TALENTED and EXCITING Jay's performance is. Teen magz in Thailand soon added more forums on Jay Chou, the hottest most successful RnB artist in Asia, and soon, he was on the cover of the Music teen magz in Thailand.
Jay's concert is considered a revelation in the music industry in Thailand, for he is considered the 1st Taiwanese (chinese) artist to hold a COMPLETE concert in Thailand for the past 20 years. Not only Jay had become known to most Thais at the beginning of this year, in January, his concert which is held the end of this year is considered successful. Alot of enthusiastic fans went, not only to his concert but to his press, interviews and to the airport. Even Jay himself was surprised. He knew the press will be picking him up, but he didnt expect any fans. Having the stadium HALF FILLED at the end of this YEAR when his came to known at the beginning this YEAR is considered a revelation already.
Also, the reason why MOST Thais couldn't go to the concert was because the PR wasn't that good. Jay just happned to be touring around SouthEast Asia, therefore Jay's concert and schedule here was squeezed in. The PR just started the beginning of LAST MONTH. Give them two months prior, and everybody in Thailand will know about it. Another thing is that during Jay's arrival and concert, the Thai fanz either had end of semester exams or they simply live in other provinces in Thailand, therefore they couldn't attend the concert, although THEY WANTED TOO. Some could make it to the interviews and press, but not the concert. Some bought the ticket, but in the end had to sell coz they had other important business or school related business or on Xmas holidays with their family.
And i totally agree that "a half-filled stadium with enthusiastic fans than a filled stadium with lukewarm fans". The crowd was WILD, EVERYBODY sang along with Jay.
Jay's popularity is sure to increase, since his arrival here. It takes time, coz of the language barriers.

i alsolutely agree that more than half of stadium filled at this period is considered to be quite succesful. LOTS of students here cannot make it to the concert. they're in mid-term exams period plus they're young and have to get permission if they want to go for concert coz it's at night. i talked to the staff today they said jay is the biggest chinese singer who had concert in thailand. they also said that jay feel really happy to see his enthusiastic fans in the concert coz he know it's in the exams period. he thoght some ppl attended his concert is good already.

Thx for sharing this information :excited: . I think Jay is well known to Asian fans whether in Thailand or any other asian countries. I think it is because of his music and talent. I have one Thai fren, she is not even know about F4 which is already well known with Meteor Garden but she knew that they are also popular in THailand and most people got crazy of them. After me and my other frens told her about F4 and other Chinese singers, she was excited and wanted to know them better while she is in Thai.
Eniwei, the concert was successfull, i was so :yeah: to hear that. Most of Indonesian fans are waiting for him to have a concert in Indo...*make a wish*

Jay has a big number of Thai fans , but still a small number compare to F4( this is because F4 has more members and people would sure to have their own favourite one) F4's series are also show on National Thai TV , while they hardly show anything of Jay. But still Thai fans do all they can, searching through the net, buying mags with him on the cover or inside. They do all they can to know more about jay cause he is not well promoted in Thailand yet.
However, I was very impressed with his first ever concert in BKK because Thai fans wreso enthusiastic. But I just wonder what was it like when Jay had a concert in countries that fans don't speak Chinese??

Yeah F4 is quite famous in Thailand..but i think the F4 craze kinda died out.. i heard that when they came (later on).. nobody really went to pick them up at the airport..but this could just be a rumour.. as for Jay..well i think Thai fans are just starting to know him a little better.. maybe if he has his concert later on in the year (2004).. the concert hall will probably be full.. but hey, not having a full concert hall doesnt mean anything! people could be busy and stuff...I for one is a BIG BIG BIG fan of Jay!! He Roxs.. i'm proud to be Taiwanese!! Hehe.. oh..one thing i hate.. some Thai ppl like to diss him.. saying he's not cute..or that he's not that great.. oh come on!! You guys don't even understand what he's singing about.. you gotta understand the lyrics..then you'll really love his songs.. most of his slow songs can make me cry... hm.. well the Jay concert was pretty cool.. the first concert i've been to.. although i wasn't standing at the front where i could see his face up close..but its alrite! The concert was still great, nevertheless... hm.. so.. Jay is leaving bkk on 29th.. so sad...i really really hope he comes back again..or else i'll have to go back to Taiwan to see him!!

Well, the reason why F4 is popular in Thailand coz of the cheezy primetime called Meteor Rain, which was very well promoted. Then came along the soundtrack for Lilo and Stitch, pepsi CM, so on. F4 was a boyband which broke the language barrier, clearing paths for other artists, such as our sexy, talented Jay Chou to enter Thailand. After the MTV Asia Music Awards, his MVs such as Grandfather's Tea and Back to the Past came in, mainly as a run-up to his interesting Panasonic CM. Turns out that Jay was able to gain interest from Thaiz. Despite appearance and style, I think that Jay was able to make Thais focus on the REAL talents of singers. F4, who was very well packaged had diversifying guys (without talents) with different style attracted teens in thailand. Then came Jay, who not only is HOT, he had TALENTS. He can write his own songs, produce his own music, play basketball, so forth. Thaiz were impressed. Jay was something DIFFERENT. UNIQUE. HE STOOD OUT. He was a support to break the language barrier and UNFENCED a way for other talented artists such as Se7en and WangleeHom. In my opinion, he made Thaiz look at the REAL talents in an artist; appearance and style being trivial. I guess that is the most important thing to look in an artist--who he/she really is. Not the way they are packaged or set up.
LOVE YA JAY!!~~

The hall was not full packed but all Thai fans had full power for Jay!!!I believe wholeheartedly that everybody was happy with da concert and Jay was surely impressed with Thai fans. There's no boundary between us though we speak different language..Most of Thai fans can sing Jay's songs (so loudly)..da concert was my best x'mas gift ever!!
Jay didn't sing us a christmas song..he played piano for us :)

Yeah !! Groovalicious 's definitely right..My cousin had the exam next day after the concert night, but she went to the concert (how dare she was)..a lot of people couldn't make it cuz the exam season this time..also the concert was set on workign day, not weekend that people out of Bangkok could join..
Half-fulled concert doesn't mean the concert fail... I believe Jay fans coudl not be more than 10,000 to fill concert hall. But they paid higher to get close to Jay.. I could see less people in less expensive zone...I knew some fans at airport, saw them again in many event ( press conference, MTV interview and autopraph session). I cannot deny F4 :retard: is the most famouse band.. I had went with my freind to chase Jerry and Jai Jai 2 times..they 'are not so nice and down to earth like Jay(don't assume am F4 fan..definitely not) I felt sadly sorry :please: for my freind that she was so exhausted to follow them, but not even get a glance and word from them. I believe F4 fever would die down in next year :boxed: ..even my friend still admit she love their look, not their acting ability or song (absolutely not..so terrible - not meand to offense la   )..
Ver few Jay fans understand mandarin, i think. A lot of Thai peole have chinese blood, but i beleive not all can speak mandarin and touch with the chinese. Am half chinese, my father is the second generation and maried with my mother who was Thai. My family follow every chinese tradition and adopt the culture into our live, but I barely understand madarin..just same to my freind who was the 3rd generation, though pure chinese, but could understand and spake some easy sentense. The only famous chinese singer is Teng Li Jin who died already. I love her song (tien mi mi). See very few of Jay fans understand mandarin, but they love his music. "MUSIC HAS NO BOUNDARY" quoted from Jay
Though the hall were half empty, but I had fun time and felt warm welcoming atmosphere. I think Jay would feel the same as me..everyone enjoy. There is no such any empty seats in Jay concert for Taiwan, chine or elsewhere I guess, so the article sound wonder with what was going on the hall. Jay fans admire his talent and music rather than his looks (though he even look better than previous albums)..it 's great and my first time in concert (never spend my money to any concert, except get it free)..I also heard this is the first time of Jay concert in non-chinese speaking country.
Before Jay concert, there was Li Ming (Hong Kong actor) concert nearly 10 years ago - correct me if am wrong. My freind went that concert, but it was not full back up band like this. Even some Korean band (baby vox or something), lately visited Thailand, they just came to promote. I feel respect to Jay spirit that he insisted to bring in his dancer and live band into his bangkok live. The MD of organizer said in the media interview that he insist his concert has to be live, no backing track.. such this condition, cost of thsi concert climbed up..and i feel the pricy ticket is worth..throughout up to 20 songs in the concert, :sing: he did nto disappoint any fans  I am think to write a mail to Alfa to thank them for thsi concert and extend my appreciation to organizer and Panasonic who decided to bring him in Bangkok. I heard from media interview. Jay plan to come back

Hi,
We have to admit that Chinese music is not so well-known here in Thailand compared to Western music. I myself was really surprised when more people become crazy for F4 or even Jay; it's a phenomenon here. I've never saw things like this since i grew up.
I also felt very surprised to know that Jay would have a concert here coz i knew that the hall would not be filled. Though he is popular here in a certain degree, his fans are not much compared to fans in Taiwan or Hong Kong. Yeah, language is a main barrier. Many people refuse to listen to his songs because they said they don't understand what he sang (but i would like to ask them back also if they understand all meaning of the western songs they listen to. :D )
Well, pinkish_chick, you wrote that you don't like people saying something bad about Jay's appearance, i agree with you. But just leave them alone coz it shows that those ppl are not open enough to listen to his songs. I don't know any Chinese but i still like him coz i know how great he is.
I am quite sure that next time, more and more people would attend the concert coz everyone knows now how great and impressive the performance was.
