I think what matters most is actually the emotions and thoughts that Jay is trying to convey. The song really about missing someone from a distance. I guess, interpreted in this way, the subject is the feeling of 'missing someone' and Istanbul is a background where these emotions took place. I would say, it is not necessary for Istanbul in the video.

I thought the mosque in the background in the video was supposed to be Sultan Ahmed Mosque. Is it not? Anyways, it probably wasn't really Jay's decision how the MV was made. He directs a lot of his MVs now, but this was from his first album. He also wasn't very well-known, so he wouldn't have had the money for a trip to Istanbul. It's more likely that this was lower budget and the video was edited using what the editors thought were nice scenes from Turkey. They could have messed up, as people often do. That seems the most likely explanation to me.

I think the analogy of the ancient ruins of Istanbul and the historical aspect to searching for love in a lost place is what he was trying to portray rather than the actual place.

It's a video from the first album!!! Please be patient and comprehensive, he was young, inexpert and with no too much money to make a expensive video. Everyone makes mistakes.

he probably didnt even GO there to film it
it was probably green-screened haha
but the Milan De Xiao Tie Jiang from his third album, Eight Dimensions
that was definitely authentic milan right?
and Twilght's Chapter Seven from Still Fantasy
that was definitely London..
he's more experienced now
and has more power and money
so at least he has improved, right? :-)

I'm not sure about "Mi Lan De Xiao Tie Jiang," as I think I remember seeing something showing him green-screening that. I'm not sure where the picture is that convinced me of that... (If I ever find it again, I'll let you know, but I'll just be ambiguous now about it until I come up with the proof that says that, yes, this was just shot in a studio.) "Ye De Di Qi Zhang" was definitely London, though, as there was a BTS with British people and I think Dan Tou said that all the British girls were saying that Jay was very cute. "Zui Hou De Zhan Yi" was in Thailand, as that had a BTS, as well. "Yi Fu Zhi Ming" was also in Italy. The BTS had him speaking Italian. His Italian was goofy, but completely adorable! He's also filmed in the United States, and "Zhi Zhan Zhi Shang" was shot in Russia.

Looking at the "Yi Si Tan Bao" MV, it looks a lot like something green-screened. As I said, they wouldn't have spent as much on it because Jay wasn't actually famous or rich. He can do a much better job now. Don't fret over a low-budget MV like that. It's old and there's really nothing to be done about it at this point. Just look forward to what Jay will do in the future and appreciate Vivian's lyrics even if the MV doesn't quite match up with them.

At least your home city has its own Jay song - not many people can say that! :-)
