What happened to the forums

Welcome back everyone! I'm sure you're all wondering what happened to JCnet in the past few days. Sorry to say I didn't take it down to redesign it to surprise you all with. It was technical difficulties.

Long story short, I was optimizing and repairing the database like I always do to insure everything is spick and span. But I hit a snag when one of the tables got severely corrupted because the temp folder the optimizing process uses ran out of space (our database has gotten really large). This had never happened before so it took a while to figure out and fix.

Anyways, everything appears to be working , and no posts were lost in the process. Please report any inconsistencies or oddities you spot. Thanks for your patience!

I was wondering WTH happened? For a couple of days, I thought it was just me or the cafe's internet connection that's making my online experience incomplete. I posted a shout-out and nudged people on MSN to find out the answer. A day without JCNet is like a day without sunshine.

just want to ask.. i noticed we have like 70 000 members, whilst there are less than 5000 actually active.

i think this is probably a frequent topic amongst you mods and 'higher people' but id jus like to mention it too. are you going to do anything to reduce this number? will it lessen the load on the system, etc.. ? cos well...frankly if i was the admin and like 50 000 extra members who just had accounts...but do nothing, i would just click delete.

just my thoughts.

There really aren't 70,000+ accounts. There are only about 12,000+ physical accounts. And of those about 3000+ have logged in the past 30 days (that's what "active" means). The 70k number is actually the number of people that have ever registered on the site. And since the users of the site consists of registered users, those who re-register, and those who never register, I just prefer the higher humber.

Anyways the recent downage is due to software upgrades. And any subsequent downage in the near future will probably be due to the same thing.

Thank goodness everything is ok -- I was really afraid for the last couple of days when the whole site was down and thought something bad had happened. It's good to hear everything's running smoothly and nothing was lost. :)
