:welcome:

Well, since this is an international forum, there are fans from many different places and backgrounds here. I'm American and Caucasian, but hardly the norm. We have Asians from all different nationalities, Latin Americans, African-Americans, and more visiting this forum, but we all love Jay!

Do you speak Mandarin? I am trying to learn. What part of China are you from? My name is Sam, by the way, and I'm from North Carolina.

Hello Sam, nice to meet you!. I 'm from Vietnam, Ha Noi city.
I really love Jay, and I want to make friends all over the world.
I knew that your country is very beautyful, I really want to get there.
My English is not good, so I found it pretty difficult to communicate with you. I hope you'll help me.

Pm: jayajaya, what is your name ?

07-24-2008, 03:16 PM
Don't worry, as long as people can understand, you are doing fine. We won't get mad over a few spelling and grammar issues. :wink2: Unfortunately, I don't know Vietnamese, just English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese.

I'm not sure how beautiful the US is, since I've only been out of country once for a cruise, so I don't have anyplace to compare to.

Not everyone is chinese in the forum. I am black. I guess that is the appropriate term, since I am mixed with other cultures and African American means that your ancestry is only African and no other race. But anywho, welcome to the forum. We all do love Jay because his work is so great.

I am definitely Chinese, but born and raised in Denmark. Which means I don't speak Mandarin, unfortunately. Wish I could! I do however, speak Cantonese and Teo Chew, well and Danish, English and French.

I'm learning chinese at the university, trying hard and hoping to graduate, and i'm very eager to get to know China's culture (and Jay is definitely relevant in this case!).

I guess I fell in the norm of the Jay Chow's fan base. I was born in China but raised in US. I grew up in NYC so I kept my root pretty well. I would say that I'm half/half and that causes problems sometime. I'm not american enough when I hang out with my american friends, and the chinese groups think I'm a little too white washed, lol.

Frankly, I'm surprised to find out that there are this many non-Chinese Jay Chow fans.

I'm Chinese (HK), but was born in London. I moved to Chicago at a young age, but was kept rooted by my Chinese heritage. Eventually I stumbled upon Jay Chou's music after visiting my ex-girlfriend's (gf at the time) "Xanga" page, and have enjoyed his music ever since. :D

I'm surprised to see how many non-Chinese people love his music. People in HK love him as well. I guess he's become an Asian icon for Chinese music and culture.

craziness.
had no idea jay's music was so international since he basically speaks no english (not like wang lee hom who is totally an ABC)...

but yeah, obviously, i'm an ABC. parent's from Taiwan, but I was born and raised in the good ole USA. rediscovered my love of all things chinese a few years ago. and hence, my love of jay.

Well, in my case, it's because I'm studying Mandarin, so I really do know what he's saying, even though he doesn't speak my native tongue. I also understand his songs to some extent, despite the mumbling.

I am 100% Taiwanese.

My parents told me I have no Chinese blood in me. xD

I can understand a minimal amount of Mandarin which include the following:

Can you understand Chinese?
It's time to eat.
Go to bed. Turn off the light.
Where's the bathroom?

Those are the top four things people tell me in Mandarin. xD

Am i a twinkie/banana ? Hopefully not. I am chinese but sadly don't know chinese and can only speak english. I can understands bits and pieces but that's only because of my grandparents and they speak a mixed weirdo version of canto/mando/wenzhou/??? so it doesn't really work that well - I live in New York City and PRAY MAN PRAY someday when i'm old enough to earn my own money i can go to a Jay Chou concert. Inside i am chinese though even if i don't speak it. How? 90% of the songs i listen to are not english :glug: I have some Fobish friends though that do listen to Jay but aren't huge fans >.<

oh, i know this pain. xP my mum has been trying to get used to my asian obsession for a really long time. cause i don't like asian music only. i love asian guys, i wanna marry one xP (or just date for now lol), i love hello kitty, asian food, home decorating in asian style - mostly everything. and i would love to order everything asian related on-line but i guess i would run out of money in a few days and i would starve to death next to hello kitty figure. xD (no, i'm not mental, it's called HUGE obsession... xP)

LOL! The guy I marry has to know Mandarin! I don't care if he is not Asian, but he has to know Mandarin Chinese. My mom constantly stops me from ordering through YesAsia, since I will go, "I want Jay's this, Mayday's that, some LeeHom, and some sodagreen..." I am a bit obsessed, as well. I have a Chinese clock in my room, 3 qipao (Chinese dresses), and a big stack of Chinese CDs and DVDs!

Remember to use the link on Jay-Chou.net's homepage, so part of the sale will go to Jay-Chou.net and keep the site running. I use my debit card for everything, so the foreign transaction fees won't kill me, and I don't have to worry about paying the bank afterwards.

My dad told me to learn Chinese, which explains why I started learning, which also how I discovered Jay. People tend to think I am Chinese on the 'Net, though, since I know how to type Chinese. Of course, some people think I'm part Chinese when they find out I know some Chinese, just because they don't expect that from a white girl. I don't look Chinese, but they just assume.

Hey, guys! I'm 100% Chinese (50% HK lollol) but I was born in the US, so I know more English than Chinese, unfortunately. I know a decent amount of Tai Shan (it's a random Chinese dialect that's linked to Cantonese...), a teeeensy bit of Cantonese, and some Mandarin (mostly from Jay or TW dramas lol). I'm also really into Korean artists/dramas so I know a teensy bit of Korean now too ^^;;
Fairly good at English.:bleh:

Hi I'm Ashley and I'm Australian. My waipo (grandmother) is Chinese but apart from a lot of food and some cultural stuff, hardly anyone would guess that I'm part Chinese. I inherited mostly caucasian genes from my dad. :-) I speak a little Chinese but would really love to learn it properly and go there someday to see where my relatives came from. Jay's songs inspire me and help me to learn a bit more Mandarin. I discovered Jay when I moved down from Queensland to Melbourne and my husband studied Mandarin full time. I also got to meet a heap of my Chinese relatives that live in Melbourne that I had barely seen growing up. I can't wait to go see Jay in Sydney soon! I can't believe he is actually coming to Australia. That is a dream come true!

I see... So not all of you are Chinese. I'm not a chinese myself. Actually I am Korean :D But I live in Indonesia and my mom live in China during her childhood, so I can speak 4 different languages, including English. Not very good in speaking Chinese though, but I think at least I can still understand what other people say if it is only a simple daily conversation because my mom sometimes speak in chinese when she meets her relatives :D

Nice to meet you all!

Yep, I'm Chinese residing in Canada. My parents are from Hong Kong, so my first language is Cantonese. Second language would be Taiwanese/Hokkien...Since my older relatives and parents speak it a lot, I understand it. Third language would be Mandarin :D Went to Mandarin school since I was 3, mainly because my dad forced me. Actually, I'm quite glad I know Mandarin now 'cause I can understand the lyrics

Howdy,

I'm an Australian born chinese, although my parents are chinese malaysian.

My first language used to be canto, until I started watching the idiot box >_<.

How I wish that I paid more attention to the Saturday Mandarin classes my parents dragged me to...

Have conversational understanding of canto (althought it's deteriorated since I moved cities and have no one to talk to). Mando is pretty bad - although I managed to get around Beijing last year without a phrase book lol. Did Japanese for a few years and Korean for 10 weeks.

Jay is my latest obsession :D
