I'm surprised with this movie being the biggest selling midnight showing AND the biggest one day opening EVER, there isn't a thread on this movie!
First and foremost, of course I was saddened by Heath Ledger's deaths, and seeing him on screen was just a bittersweet moment. His portrayal of the joker was outstanding.
Anyhow, the movie was amazing and I do encourage everyone to go see it. And .... i was VERY surprised when I saw a cameo made by none other than our biggest news maker of the year...EDISON Chen! It was a barely 10 second cameo...which could have been longer, and possibly taken the lead Asian guy role...but oh well.
For those that have seen the movie...did you guys notice Edison in there?

Hmm, i haven't watched the movie, but i do know that Edison made a cameo there! I was surprised too when i heard about that!
Really? Not even 10 seconds? Wow. Yeah, if he was the lead Asian guy role, i would've been more encouraged to see it.
But they said that the movie was a little bit too long right? Was it really good?

It was...an amazing. movie.
The critics LOVED IT. Absolutely LOVED it. So did the fans.
Heath Ledger was amazing as the Joker. AND NOT JUST BECAUSE HE'S DEAD! (RIP) But because of how goddamn commited he was. He spent a whole month alone in a hotel keeping a diary of the Joker's thoughts before filming.
I hate it that critics keep on asking why it's so dark. That's the WHOLE point. The DARK Knight. Anyway. The make up is really scary. And one of the parts where it got so intense that I had to laugh at the dark humor was when he magically made the pencil disappear by stabbing it through a man's hand. He totally surpassed Nicholson's performance.
Aaron Eckhart was okay. I mean, Ledger took over the film. When his face got scarred, or deformed, and when he became Two Face, it seemed like the mask was acting for him, instead of the opposite. But yeah, it was really sad when he had so much revenge in him. Plus I don't think he's really dead. I mean, that was a pretty short distance. Remember that mob leader that fell? He didn't die either.
Christian Bale's performance was pretty good. Playing the bitter superhero that always seemed to be stuck between two choices. He had the charisma. Waay better than Val Kilmer or all those Batmans before him.
And did I mention that Ledger totally beat Nicholson's act? It was impossible to separate Heath Ledger and the Joker...it seemed so utterly real that I walked out of the movies still in shock.
Haha I didn't notice Edison Chen until I actually read that he was in it.
One more thing I gotta add.
"Why so serious?"

It was a little over 2 1/2 hours, but honestly, I felt like I could have been there for twice as long and still enjoy it ^_^ Ledger was amazing and deserves an Oscar. It was an amazing performance, really felt like the Joker from the comics. He was both funny and terrifying.
And yes, I saw Edison Chen! I was really surprised by that lol

the movie is amazing!!! best super hero movie ever made imo!!!!
two thumbs up for Ledger his acting was superb!!! He fitted the Joker role perfectly....he owned Joker. Now I doubt anyone can replace Joker I am pretty sure in the future when other actors play Joker, people will always compare them to Ledger's Joker. I even think he overshadowed Batman in the movie.
About Edison Chen I knew he was going to be in the movie cos my friend told me beforehand what I dunno was that his scene is really short!! My friend told me that his scene was supposed to be longer but were cut becos of the scandal. Anyone knows if this is true?

I didn't know about Edison before watching the movie, but spot him anyway - however short appearance... The chinese villain was not that good - wasn't he the villain in one of the James Bond movie ???
The movie itself is ok to me. Heath Ledger didn't dissapoint, a hard act to follow.

I thought that the movie overall was okay -- not as amazing as everyone says, BUT I do think that Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely incredible! without a doubt, he was definitely the highlight of the movie -- you couldn't even tell it was him! even though he was a dark villain, he provided alot of the comic relief throughout the film
haha I noticed Edison Chen! I was surprised when I saw him since I thought he was taken out of the movie completely...and yeah, his role was like 5 secs long

This movie is one of the best I have seen in recent memory, well aside from WALL-E. Ledger's Joker character is definitely something completely different, and it just makes the movie that much more compelling. The highlight of the movie is the interrogation scene between Batman and Joker, because honestly I want to rewatch the movie just for that scene alone. At first it started out pretty slowly, but once it hit that part, I just could not believe that a movie could be so "mentally interesting". Everything after that was awesome. My only concern is: how will they top this with the next movie? I don't think they can, but I hope Christopher Nolan proves me wrong.
No one should consider this a superhero movie or a comic book movie. It is just in a league of its own.

I went into the cinema around 6.20 PM and came out around 9.00 PM! I was quite shocked because I didn't notice how long the movie was...
But it's really nice. Everything's packed with action and details. The duration of the movie is long but it's not long-winded. If you know what I mean.
Joker joker!
I wish Heath Ledger is still alive and well... so that he can come back to us with a part 3 of Batman and The Joker!
But he's RIP...
He TRULY deserves an oscar or whatever award...
The introduction of the movie is FANTASTIC. How 'The Joker' robbed the mafia bank... So smart! Oh, and also his magic trick during his meeting with the mafia!
This movie is definitely one of 2008's best! Anyone disagree?
Does anyone have the wallpaper of The Joker doing graffiti on a mirror? That's the coolest poster I've seen so far.
And oh yeah, I did notice Edison.
XD
Apart from that, everything else is fantastic. The posters, the trailer, the publicity...
Kudos to Christopher Nolan! =DDDDD

I agree with NovemberRain that Ledger should win the oscar award. Because the way he behaves totally signifies how the joker looks like.
But wont it be kinda scary to have a joker poster? haha.

The movie was awesome. I think it's the best movie I had ever seen, this year.
And yeah, I thought I saw Edison somewhere too, pretty cool. But it was pretty scary how the kept shooting each other at the beginning of the movie. Lol, the sound made by guns really scared me, har-har-har.
I thought Alfred Pennyworth aka Michael Caine was pretty cute, hahahahaha.

^ wow, I didn't know those existed! All I keep seeing are the ones with batman's ride, the joker... the norm.
I went to watch this at the GrandCinema in HK, and the seats would vibrate with the effects from the film. It was terrifying! Especially when the fake batman suddenly crashed into the window whilst the Major was talking to Dent.
But seriously, I think, although it was a tad too long, its plot was quite good, considering the fact that 2faced is meant to be in another film?? (or so I thought...)
and Heath... is truely haunting in character. But he really did not disappoint, considering a lot of people went to see this because of him. I'm all in support for his Oscar nomination. *kowtow*

ok...so i wont re-say anything you guys have said. ill just mention some things....
1. anybody find it slightly funny that batman's voice is just a gruff/hoarse version of bruce wayne talking...i mean, sometimes i was struggling to hear what he's saying. why not use some of his X million dollars and fit a voice changer into his costume?
2. his motorbike that bursts from his car....anybody else think that it is actually going VERY slowly? if you take notice, you will know what im talking about...you must block out the whining engine sound effects ... and you may see in fact it may be travelling at running speed hahaha
but yes, it was a great movie. though i must say , batman begins was much darker, in respect to the batman character. i dont know if anybody else knows what i mean...this movie was heavily focussed on portraying batman positively.

I know what you mean. In the first, Batman was still trying to deal with issues of revenge ad finding out how fa he would go. In this one, he already knows that, and is just trying to "pass the torch". This let Nolan (the director) focus on the other themes, like order/chaos, good/evil, and the darkness present in everyone

I have not seen the movie myself, but I hear that it great. Plus I do like Christian Bale as an actor. He is really good. I saw him in the ovie "Equilibrium". That was something and he looked really cool. I don't like the joker too much, is why I have not run to the movies, because I have some fears of clowns. My friends laugh at me, but they kinda weird me out.

I think the reason for the motorbike to be moving so slowly is because of camera thing. If the motorbike move too fast, the rider might be in danger or the camera might not get a capture of the movement. :D

Actually they call the 'motorbike' a Batpod. Haha. And from what I've read, the batpod was more difficult than the Batmobile because in some ways, it was very difficult to ride because of the stability.
Initially, it was very difficult to ride and came off fairly easy; they didn't call it a bike because it behaves nothing like a bike.
The stunt-driver Jean-Pierre is one of the greatest bike rider in the world.
Well... that's only for the bike issue. Hope everyone is informed about that part! =DDD
FYI I read it in a review magazine some tiem ago so I knew. =D

I've finally watched this movie!
Personally, i don't think it was that great. The plot was a bit confusing :S
And in one of the first fight scenes, you could see that Batman was fighting very slowly.
But yeah, Heath Ledger made a great Joker. You would totally believe that he is insane. Some parts really made me sit on the edge of my seat!

kaikaii and funkaeh : edison appeared as one of the security guards in the scene where lucious fox needs to turn in his cellphone(?) in order to meet the chinese gangster guy (lau?) .. yeah i'm pretty sure it was him, cause i didn't expect it and my friend was like "HEY!! WTH? SEX SCANDAL GUY??!" XD
many people have probably already said this, but i thought it was a really cool movie, just the character of joker was.. wowww .. so genius B)
but the one thing i thought it was lacking (a good thing, in my opinion), that i had expected it to have a lot more of, was blood. o_O .. i HATE blood and watching people get cut up or shot in the head, etc... and every time in the first half of the movie, it seemed like they were gonna show someone get cut, and i'd always cover my eyes, but they NEVER show it. anyone else notice that?

I noticed that too. I think that, even if it was still mature enough for others, they still wanted it clean enough for the younger audiences. Little kids grow up loving superheroes like Batman and Spider-Man, so they would want to see the movies as well. Lowering gore levels let the movie makers market to a wider audience. My two cents ^_^

After reading all the good reviews about this movie, I went to watch it today ^-^
Sigh, I really really wished he didn't pass away. I really wanted him to act as the Joker again. I can't imagine others playing that character.
I think Batman is kinda okay in this movie. Not particularly outstanding. I thought they should get a prettier female lead though O_o

I can't believe nobody mentioned about Gary Oldman. MY GOD. I totally watched this for him and I almost wanted to die when he "died" the first time. I was sooooo shocked cos I immediately thought of Sirius and wondered why his role always dies in a... ): way. Lieutenant Jim Gordon is SOOOOOOOOOOOO important in Batman okay.
Chris Nolan is THE MAN, seriously. Batman Begins was fantastic, but Dark Knight totally blew me away. <3 And of course Christian Bale is still so hot. xD And Heath Ledger's Joker is totally, really crazy.
One more thing. That Lau guy is a Singaporean! :D HAH SO MUCH SCREENTIME. And I didn't even notice Ed. For goodness sakes, so much hype over that MINUTE ROLE?! -____-"

I think I may go see it this weekend from listening to all of comments about the movie. I don't believe the movie could be as long as Titanic was. Did the joker look really gross? I was just wondering since Clowns are not my favorite type of entertainment. I really want to see how Heath did. They are even talkinig Oscar for him, even though he is not alove anymore? So I wonder would it be a honorary one or the real thing? Well I want to go see it this weekend. I will get back to you.

===========================
[29/07/08] Dark Knight Could Break Titanic Record
Source : The Straits Times
The Batman sequel, which made $409m in 10 days, could surpass Titanic as the highest-grossing film in US history.
Los Angeles - The Dark Knight continues to obliterate box-office records, crossing the US$300 million (S$409 million) mark in just 10 days.
The epic Batman sage grossed US$75.6 million in its second weekend in theatres, pushing its domestic total to US$314 million, Warner Bros head of distribution, Mr Dan Fellman, said on Sunday.
That surpasses tge record set in 2006 by Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which took 16 dats to make US$300 million. The latest Batman instalment had already broken records for best opening weekend at US$158.4 million and best single-day with US$66.4 million. It has busted records in Imax screenings, making US$16.3 million in its first 10 days.
Mr Fellman expects Darj Knight to reach US$400 million in about 18 days, which would beat the record Shrek 2 set in 2004 when it made that much money in 43 days.
"We've been getting a lot of repeat business coming in," he said. "Our audience is expanding, with terrific word-of-mouth and strong reviews. Our audience us getting a little bit older, that's the good news. We're finding the younger demographic, male and female, coming back."
He added: "To say we would have done US$300 (million) would have been fabulous gross for another Batman movie. To do US$300 (million) plus in 10 days, we just couldn't have predicted it."
The Dark Knight could surpass Titanic as the highest grossing film in US history, said Mr Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers.
James Cameron's 1997 movie made $600.7 million domestically, a record no other movie has come close to touching.
"The Titanic record has set un a lock box for 10 years. It's a tall order but if any filem has a chance to surpass that number, it's got to be Dark Knight," he said. "The notion that it could beat Titanice is not all that far-fetched anymore."
Director Christopher Nolan's follow-up to his 2005 origin story Batman Begins, which again stars Christian Bale as the comic-book crime fighter, iniitially benefited from the mystique of the late Heath Ledger giving his masterful last performance as the Joker, Mr Dergarabedian said.
"Now, it's all about word of mouth," he said. "The first weekend, there was this huge, pent-up demand and eagerness by audiences to see this move. Now, it's like a freight train - it seems to be unstoppable."
Part of the film's visual allure comes from the fact that 30 minutes of it were shot with Imax camera, including the elaborate bank-heist scene at the start.
"Chris (Nolan) has clearly hit upon something," said Mr Greg Foster, chairman and president of Imax Filmed Entertainment. "There are many important film-makers whom we've spoken with in the last couple of weeks about shooting with Imax cameras." AP

i watched it on IMAX a few days ago.
was by far one of the best movies ive ever seen.
i think Heath did an awesome job with his role, the nonchalance, the meloncholy, his Joker CACKLE was PERFECT~ best joker thus far, hands down.
and i LOVE the sense of humor they put in Joker, ESPECIALLY that time when he was in the nurse outfit in the hospital next to Dent, and Joker got all 'bashful' and said 'hiii....' ZOMG, i was laughing like cazy
and his 'magic tricks' i.e. making that pencil disappear into the guy's head was actually really cool x]
and as always...christian bale.....was unbelievably smexxy as Bruce Wayne/Batman..i think i swooned everytime i saw him x]
but i thought they couldve made the Joker darker. i love his wit, humor, and apathy, but i expected something deeper and darker from him. i keep hearing them describe him as 'evil personified', but i really didnt feel that..
oo, and Edison, i was totally looking out for Edison! as soon as i heard Fox mention Hong Kong, i got all excited and i was like, omgg when will i see edison!! but yea....5 seconds...that was it, poo

I still have not seen the movie yet. I might go this weekend. Everyone seems to really like it. I really hope that I enjoy it, because I like Batman movies and Christian Bale as an actor. Heath Ledger also. The last thing I saw him in was 10 Things I hate about you. Chick flick. Everything else after that movie was too much for me to watch. Check Christian Bale out in Equilibrium. Great Sci-fi film.

i thought joker was phenomenon. the scrubby crown makeup and creepy laugh makes him look insanely evil and scary. i can't believe how well heath ledger play the role of joker. his glare and smirk is sooooo creepy. i agree that they should have make his makeup a bit darker. but i'm afraid of clown, so i think that is why i think joker was scary.

i saw the movie yesterday...and it DID NOT disappoint....(although i was disappointed at how short edison appeared for..totally improportional to all the hype regarding his role LOL...plus..i can't even remember what his line was...and then..i stayed for the credits showing the casts...and i couldnt see Edison's name there..LOL:laughing:)
anyways..i loved this film, i loved the theme, and the messages and all the stuff it was trying to say. Like, in the old films, Batman was always a Hero, and everyone in Gotham looked up to him, however in this one...it really showed how realistic people can be, and how rational humans can be.
although i was REALLY touched by that prisoner guy on the ferry...like..what he did..i was like "awwwww"...
what i'm wondering is...will there be another Batman film??...i mean the people in Gotham hate Batman now..so..:worry:

I know what you mean. A lot of people want a third one, and Nolan (director) and Eckhart (Harvey Dent) did say that they would love to do it again. There were also a bunch of clues in the movie and in the marketing that The Riddler would be the next villain. But I think that it would be fine to end it here for now.
If there WERE to be another, I think that they should go the route of Batman Beyond. Y'know, Bruce Wayne is old, but Gotham needs Batman, so he trains a teen to become the next Batman? lol I think it could make sense, based on the ending
But what do you guys think? If there is another, who would you want to see as the villain(s)?

A Batman Beyond approach would completely ruin the movie. Any speculation to the villains in the next film are just that--speculation. They purposely left it completely open-ended at the end of Dark Knight just so they can choose which villain they think best suits the story.
SephiClone
08-04-2008, 08:53 PM
But the whole thing with Harvey was that the fall wasn't big enough to be sure that he was dead, just like with Sal Marone earlier...I read that they made sure to leave that possibility open.
During the marketing campaign, there were several mentions of a man named Edward Nygma. There was even a "letter" to the newspaper in Gotham written by him. If you have Comcast, there were a series of 5 or so episodes of the news program GCN. I heard there was also a mention to the Riddler there as well.
And why would Batman Beyond ruin it? I mean, at the end of The Dark Knight, Gordon says that Batman is the hero Gotham deserves but doesn't need right now. I mean, Nolan's take on the Batman universe is already much different. I don't think going to an altered Batman Beyond route would be too much of a stretch.
And being speculation is the best part, I think. We may not have a say in the matter, but it's nice to guess what could happen. I think that is the point of open endings: for the viewers to come up with theur own ideas and to just have fun with it

Well, it is not exactly proof since everything is speculation. But there could be a sequel to The Dark Knight!
According to the Wall Street Journal Warner Brothers intends to release Batman 3 by 2011!
“The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters.”
It IS the Wall Street Journal, so there has to be SOME truth to it...We know that one of those films is The Watchmen, btw.
I also found this poster, but who knows if it's real? If it is, then The Riddler is indeed the next villain.
