Seeing how Jay Chou sings in so many styles, what do you guys prefer from his songs of those 2?
Fast Paced Songs
=============
Che / Pull (I think)
Wu Shuang
Hong mo FAng / Red Imitation
Tian Tian De
Yang Guang Zhai Nan / Sunshine Boy
Dui Bu Qi / Sorry
Ting Ma Ma De Hua / Listen to Mothers Words
Wo Bu Pei / I'm Not Worthy
Soft-ish Songs
============
Qing Tian /Clear Day
An Hao / Secret Code
Jian Dan Ai / Simple Love
Duan le de Xuan / Broken Strings
Fa ru Xue / Hair like Snow
Step Back / Tui Huo
Hui dao guo qu / Return to the past
Orange Jasmine / Qi li Xiang
Shanghai 1943
Secret I Cannot Tell
Yu Li Xiang Bei / All The Way North
Wu Ding
Yeah, that's all I know I guess... What side of Jay Chou songs do you prefer?
And sorry Mods, I don't really know how to say this thing better, it's like a poll I guess. I tried to add a poll in too but it wouldn't work somehow
I prefer Fast Paced songs, but I like Softish Songs better

Orange Jasmine / Qi li Xiang-Soft Music-My favorite song ever because of the lyrics.
Piao Yi-Fast music- I like this one because it sounds nice when I play it loud in my car. My base is awesome to listen to when playing this song.
But overall since I do also like bands like Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, etc., I have to say that I like fast paced songs best.
When I feel gloomy and want to think romantically, I will play soft songs. Jay or other.

I think the polls only work in the subforum for polls. Hmm...I like the faster songs the most, especially "Jiang Jun." I was shocked by the fact that there could be such good hip-hop songs! Plus, I have to pay more attention to them, so I work harder to understand them.

Well, Hip-hop and Rap is great right? :brows: Lol, I'm not sure if you like Rap in America, etc, but hehe, at least you like Rap music. That's why I like Jay Chou. He sings great music and probably has great taste. I'm such a Fanboy lol

Like most hip-hop songs, just nod your head back and forth and that pretty much does it. I hardly understand many of them. But jay's songs have catchy beats, but it was noted in the Drifting song that he used alot of slang. But I sure love the way it sounds in my car when I sit forever in it during traffic.

I don't really like American hip-hop, but the lyrics to Jay's hip-hop songs are very out there, very different, such as "Checkmate." Who else would rap about chess? So, I find his hip-hop funny and refreshing. That piano interlude in "Nunchucks," too, just made the whole song sound different. Without it, it would have seemed too serious and violent, I believe, but that piano bit kind of softens it and makes it somewhat humorous and interesting.

It's not the kind of slang you would hear in, say, MC Hotdog songs, so it's not really bad slang. Actually, I consider that to be my driving theme, LOL!

You have a lot of taste to use that song as a ringtone.
I wanted it, but my friends are still trying to get used to my Once Upon a time in China ringtone.
That piano interlude in "Nunchucks," too, just made the whole song sound different.

Yes it is my driving song, along with Norvana's Teen Spirit. I need that song to keep me awake for sitting in traffic so long.
I didn't mean the bad slang that Jay uses in his song implied something bad. But that it was just slang in general he used to substitute a word to make a song sound better. Like in Spanish for Taxes, people in Texas say "taxes", but it is "impuestos". So not all slang is bad, only when it is used in a derogatory way to demean something. I have no idea who MC Hotdog is.

Oh, MC Hotdog is a Taiwanese rapper. He rapped "I Love Taiwanese Girls," and his language is pretty infamous. Usually, I think of slang that way. What Jay does most of the time is mumble, not really slang. Chinese has a lot of groups of words you can interchange, kind of like synonyms, and Mandarin is full of puns. If Jay really used a lot of slang, I'd have a harder time understanding him, but I think it's just that Vincent has a large vocabulary. Of course, if you mean in the case of words of foreign origin, they're pretty commonly used, not really considered slang.
I've heard people use "taxes" instead of "impuestos," too, but I wouldn't really consider Spanglish "slang," because sometimes I just get the 2 languages confused, and then I say something Spanglish. I've said "direction" instead of "address" on several occasions.
If I ever get a phone that uses MP3 ringtones, mine will be "Long Juan Feng" ("Tornado"), I believe.

Well hear in texas they speak what is called Tex-Mex. Tt is a slang, just meaning a jargon or another term used instead of. Everyone knows what you are saying, but here they call the person whose name is Jesus, Chuy( like Chewy). Depending on what part of latin america you are from. Slang is not bad, even though many people believe it is. Sometimes people just use it as substitutes for another word they feel comfortable with.

I guess so Lol, and I agree, that Asian Rap and American Rap, etc are very different. Most Asian rap sung in the language of the ethnicity is different, I don't know how to say this, but most Asian rap songs are like about Love or other things.

I agree they are both different. I am more of a POP girl myself. I am not really a RAP girl, even though I do listen to only the Asian kind of Rap. But not on a regular basis. I have had to skip some of the rap songs of Jay's, and I love my Jay. But when I have certain people in my car, they do not take to keen on rap, regardless of what language it is spoken in. It is kind of illicit in some songs in America, so the stereotype is that rap is bad in the US. But I really do not want to compare the both, because to me rap is rap. People just rap about different things.

Mmm.. I think I rather prefer his slow songs rather than his fast ones. My current favorite one is Dandelion's Promise. But it is very hard to understand what he is saying in the fast ones. He tends so slur to my ears. But they are really good, like fearless, I really like that song.

most of the time i prefer listening to the upbeats rather than the slow ones~ makes me feel energeting and happy ^^
actually i think it depends on the person's mood at the time... say if he's sad, he'll definetely prefer the more slow numbers~ well that's what i think :wink2:

I like the slower soft-ish songs of his.
They're soothing and nice to listen to when I'm relaxing.

That's true.
American rap is mostly about gangs and what they think people should do to themselves in life.

Soft-ish... =D.
Fast ones are too... I just don't realli like them if they stray too far into rap and stuff. But if they are still singing then they're still good I think....

Ok, I probably like Jay Chou's fast songs cause its a challenge to understand them sing them. SInce I started from yi lu shang bei to ai zai xi yuan chuan I presume, I'll go into higher pace songs until I get the rhythm of it.
Plus it helps me enhance my chinese listening skills, even though Jay Chou doesn't always sing proper chinese, it is unique and artistic in its way, and it works:excited:

I love all his soft-ish songs and i also like some of the fast-paced ones listed but not Che. But maybe i will llearn to love it with more time. Just like i did with Ting mama de hua. Now i absolutely love it!
Even if Jay raps it's good unlike the english rap. They are mostly obscene and are always about sex and violence or about one night stand. Can't they rap about other things that don't concern the ways or how much they want to bed the girl?

:) i have it now as my ring tone
but speaking about fast paced songs and softish once i must say that I like the fact that not all of his songs are same, it is an advantage for me. i like faster one when i ran or have a mood for faster songs, but the soft once are great when im nostalgic or before i fall asleep :) i can not possible decided which one i like better

It really depends on which song. Some of his fast paced songs are really good to listen to (like Green Vase, which is a slowish fast song, lol) and some of his slow songs are really beautiful (Hair Like Snow and Chrysanthemum Flower Bed have got to be my favourites). I think I prefer his slow songs better, though.

lol green vase isnt even close to being one of his fast songs, its barely even mid tempo. a fast song would be like My Territory, or Youth that ends war, from Common Orange Jasmine album

Are those rap?
Then, I'll say I hate his fast paced songs, especially when they are in weird ass pentatonic keys. His best songs IMO are the ones which are co-written with lyricist Vincent Fang.

I prefer soft-ish Jay Chou songs... Somehow his love songs always makes me cry... They had accompanied my life journey... When I am sad, it made me cry harder... When I am happy, it made me dance more wilder... So he's there...
I am a newbie here. hope to know more friends that like him too...

I like to listen to his songs, so I'd have to say i like soft songs like Secret I Cannot Tell
Yu Li Xiang Bei / All The Way North
and others on your list. Also, piano is fun to listen to or to try out.
Fast paced songs are good for dancing to or something, so i like his fast paced songs when i'm feeling energetic or trying to pump up my spirit for a good day or something.
Rock is really my favorite though. So fast paced is what i usually listen to, but jay's soft songs are good for listening to when doing homework or whatever.
I love Ting Ma Ma De Hua / Listen to Mothers Words because it's got a really nice, catchy kinda beat that even my brothers (who don't usually listen to chinese music) catch on. The lyrics are interesting too.

Soft ballads all the way. :) And all the traditional Chinese sounding ones... especially Fa Ru Xue. :D
I like a few of the fast paced ones too, and the ones in the middle. But some of his songs are just plain weird... but they're okay. :bleh:

hmmmm...i generally prefer soft-paced song, especially those about love. Jay soft-paced songs are just FAB. they do make you cry sometimes, especially at night. As for those "fast-paced song" mentioned like Ting Ma Ma De Hua and Yan Guang Zai Nan, I don't find it that fast and I love those pretty much too. how should i put it? middle-paced song?! I'm sure that are faster songs(as compared to those mentioned) which mostly include rapping, maybe not from Jay but other singers. I think those songs are great for party and dancing. haha.

I like all of them, it just depends on my mood. Sometimes I'm in a more soft paced mood so I'll go for the ballads, but if I'm having an awesome day and want to hear happy things I'll go for the faster paced songs [On The Run has some that make me laugh] xD

i especially like it when he adds in something unexpected like cello.

how u put wo bu pei and tian tian de as fast song baffles me, i would put songs like, jiang jun, or wo de di pan as fast songs, def not wo bu pei or tian tian de, those are super soft compared to his fast upbeat songs. i prefer fast songs like golden armor or twilight's chapter 7
kobe24

both. i enjoy his slow and upbeat ballads. and occasionally his rap.

our mind think aliked,i find his rapping very unique,ha.
Actually no one is better.
fast songs pumps ur adrenaline, makes u wanna dance, thus making u like te song
slow songs are great since u get tired after ur heart beats so fast due to the faster songs.
I vote for fast songs coz Jay makes breakthroughs through Fast songs
Jay-Chou<3

It depends on my mood. I like the fast songs as I can try to sing along (or more like mumble along as my mandarin is quite poor) and move to the beat, but the slow songs are nice and therapeutic when I am unwinding and lying down like at the end of a long and stressful day.

i love both :) soft song mainly because the lyrics and i love the fast pased cause i love the contemporary r&b+rock+fusion that he's trying to bring :)
