View Full Version : Okay, I'm going to bash Jay's concert.

Okay, so I'm not bashing the concert itself, as it was pretty decent (but he could have sang older songs), but the production of it. I just got the DVD and watched the whole thing, and I don't know how much is Jay's doing, but seriously, I understand why this opening one in Taipei made a loss.

First off, he needs to get rid of at least half of those dancers (especially the ones during "Ye Qu," so I can have them!). I wasn't actually there, but honestly how much do they add to the atmosphere? Look at "Wu Shuang" and "Huo Yuan Jia." Specifically in "Huo Yuan Jia," after he leads them off of the stage and starts singing close to the fans, look at the dancers; they're doing...what are they doing? Oh, that's right, absolutely nothing! They just move around with "hard" looks on their faces. I'm trying to focus on his performance, and they're just freaking annoying, and the stage just looks cluttered with so many people.

Second, what's with the ridiculous wardrobe choices? Yeah, that huge purple tentacle thing was cool looking, but couldn't there be something less costly that looks just as cool, like the coat he wore in the "Huang Jin Jia" MV? Not metioning the silver one in "Wu Shuang," and why did he wear the white pimp suit from "Che" and play with one if he didn't even sing the song?

Lastly, who the hell told Wilber Pan and Alan Ke that they could come and ruin the show? I liked that Wilber joined in during "Ting Ma Ma De Hua," but I'm not a fan of his, and his guest performance answered the question of "how many fireworks can I set off before it's just WAY too much?" I couldn't wait for him and his terrible song to just leave and never come back. And, while I like Alan, his rap was completely terrible. He just came out and started grunting really angrily and I was wondering if he was having a stroke or something, because I couldn't understand any of it.

On a side note which as nothing to do with costs, not to insult any fans who were at that concert on this board, but do people in Taipei have absolutely no rhythm? At the opening song, the camera went wide and I could see the glow sticks moving to some beat, just not the one of "Huang Jin Jia," and they were all doing it! Seriously, watch that opening song and tap your finger to the beat, then compare it to the fans'. Either I'm crazy, or all of Taiwan is.

So, does anybody have the same gripes, or am I alone in these observations?

Ya. It was a bit disappointing for a jay concert.:D I would have liked to see more atmosphere or even interaction with the fans. Everything was stale and expected except the part where there was the piano battle and abit of unseen dialogue. Yes I didn't like those pole dancers grinding next to jay just spoils the whole song personally. Wilber pan was there? I didn't even notice. And repeated camera angles. Pretty boring if you ask me I'll rather watch a movie then see the concert. Nothing special

I completely agree with you. When I was waiting for my DVD to arrive, I was actually excited. But when I saw it, I was utterly disappointed. I especially hate those dancers, or should I say strippers, during the performance of Ye Qu. (Youtube Link (http://youtube.com/watch?v=7aI0y78TmDY)) The "dance" had absolutely nothing to do with the song, not to mention those dancers were just walking around.

Oh yeah, those costumes. x__x;; They were HORRIBLE. D= I really hate how he sang Secret in a white t-shirt, jeans and this UGLY vest! (Youtube Link (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZrKrRIlBZi0&feature=related)) OH and when he performed Yang Guang Zhai Nan, his purple pants were >___>. (Youtube Link (http://youtube.com/watch?v=qaQSrqKO4LM&feature=related))

However, there's one part that I really liked - the piano part with Yu Hao.

The piano part with Yuhao was cool, but I do think I could have done without Yuhao's eyeshadow. It was weird. Also, I agree that the dancers weren't really doing anything sometimes, so it was kind of useless to have them out at those points in the concert. Yes, some of the costumes were kind of weird, but I have to admit that I kind of liked the one he wore while singing "Huang Jin Jia," and it was based on Beijing opera costumes. It was a bit over-the-top, though, but being based on a Beijing opera costume, it was supposed to be like that. The purple pants, though, were just weird, and some of the outfits weren't so nice. His hair was a little weird, too, though I have heard that he was trying to show that he's not going through male-pattern baldness and just trying to cover it up with his bangs and possibly fake hair. Even if he's trying to show that his hairline is normal, I think there were other ways that could have been done without making his hair look so weird.

These are the things I didn't like:

1. "Ye Qu" - I agree about the whole dance not fitting the song. Not only that, Jay was not comfortable with the dancers, so his singing was not his best, and I think the media even commented after one concert (not sure whether it was the Taipei one recorded for the DVD or not) that Jay brushed off the hand of one dancer because he got so uncomfortable with her touching him. So, that part was a big let-down.

2. "Fa Ru Xue" - Where's the part with Jay playing the guzheng? It's on the CD, but not on the DVD, and I would have loved to have seen him play it on the DVD! Instead, we see the audience, and Jay's guzheng solo is completely cut out. It's a big disappointment for those of us who didn't get to see him play because none of the concerts were close enough, or for those who want to watch again nostalgically.

3. I want to see Jay playing the guitar! Where's "Cai Hong"?

4. Where's the other drum solo? I thought Jay had 2 drum solos--one with the modern drumset that we see before "Yang Guang Zhai Nan," and another on a more traditional drum.

5. We don't hear Jay sing the first line for a couple of songs. What's up with that?!

6. The "Dou Qin" isn't on the CD, only the DVD, and the rap isn't on the CD, either. Jay wrote a hip-hop song just for the concert, and it isn't even on the CD!

7. I would have liked more of Jay's songs. Including Will singing "Wan Ku" wasn't really necessary, and the "Incomparable" concert had 2 DVDs, so it's not like they couldn't have put more on a second DVD. I want to hear some of Jay's older songs, since he does seem to be doing better at singing live than in past concerts, and this is the only concert set I have.

Ahaha. Yeah, some of those dancers were a little.....Yeah. But anywho, as for everything else, I am pretty okay. Some of the costumes were tacky, but I did not think much of it. As for Taiwanese people's rythm, when they edited the tapes, they probably did not notice that part. xD The only thing the editors are concerned with is how cool the camera angles are, not the audience.
