As her1na said, the airport is very far from the city. No one would go there unless necessary so it's a bit quiet. In fact, the number of cars in Batam is very high for such a small city. Even middle schoolers drive to school nowadays lmao

Actually, Acer's notebook is not that good IMO. I've seen quite a lot of bad examples. It's not very robust and heats up fast. My sister is an Acer user and it was in pretty bad shape after ~1 year. Y not consider Asus EEE PC? It's not that expensive, good performance, portable. it's selling like hot pies now =)

hey Aina... Planning to buy a laptop? I am currently using lenovo. I bought this 2 years+ ago right before I went to China. I bought this because it was cheap and the spec was very good. And until now I havent got any major problem, it's even never been reinstalled.

But for once, I was so stressed one day and I spilled A WHOLE TUMBLER of water to my laptop. And I didnt turn it off immediately and pooshhh suddenly it went dead and couldnt be turned on anymore. I panicked and the next day I took it to the repair near my school and when the man knew i had spilled water to it, he refused to repair it. "No hope" he said. I panicked even more and I went to lenovo repair center immediately and they said maybe the motherboard and hard drive were broken and couldnt be saved. if i wanted to repair it, i wouldve had to pay like 3-4 million rupiah. ridiculous amount and my dad who seldom gets mad at me and always said that i was a smart daughter who made him proud SCOLDED me for being so stupid and didnt talk to me for days. so i left my laptop at the lenovo repair center and they said maybe they needed 1 week or so to repair it.

but 2 days after that, i already looked for cheap laptops on magazines and papers, someone from repair center called. she said my motherboard and hard drive are okay, only the memory (?) card. hah.... i had never been so relieved before.. so after class i immediately flew there and i who at first expected to pay aroud 3-4 million rupiah, now only required to pay around 500 rmb. actually i could buy the memory card somewhere else with cheaper price but i was just too happy and relieved that i just took it home immediately. i was also relieved that i wasnt ripped off and i went to the right place, the official lenovo repair center.

the conclusion is: lenovo laptop is very strong.

and u know, during those days my mom and sis were very worried about me.... i cried like i had never cried before... not only because i wasted money for something unnecessary, but also because i couldnt believe i could be so stupid and until now im still hating the person who pissed me off that day.

haha aina im sorry for this long post.. i just suddenly came out of nowhere telling you to buy lenovo. just to make it clear, i am not working for lenovo or helping them promoting their brands. hehehehe

u must have felt very depressed back then. Anyways, u reached a nice conclusion there. Lenovo laptops are robust. I remember they once came up with a model called "ToughPad" which was advertised by dropping the notebook from a relatively high place and as the name suggested, it was TOUGH and it kept running w/o any problem lol.

Actually, I think it all depends on you. If you're the type that change laptop every 1-2 years, then Acer should be able to hold out at least that long for you. Otherwise, u'd better get one of fujitsu, lenovo, or mac. I'd say mac is worth every cent u pay for. They have both performance and durability. When it comes to the design, it's relative. But I think the design of the new macbook is very impressive. U can find the pictures on the official website of apple. Oh I'm starting to sound like I'm promoting macbook here. =P

Btw, I don't know why u don't like HP, but it's one of my fav brands. They really care about their quality and their designs are original. The reason why they "force" users to buy original cartridge is mainly because original cartridges don't damage the printer as badly as those of other brands and the quality is better (u might not notice the difference if u just print plain text, but it's quite obvious sometimes when it comes to pictures).
I'm quite anti-Sony actually. Their notebooks are rip-offs. Yes, the design is nice and the material is nice as well. They don't use cheap plastics. But u don't get the performance and quality that u pay for. Their performance is usually inferior compared to other brands and they always have issues with their LCD.

In the end, it all comes down to the user actually.

my dad has the same laptop with me but he's using vista... he recommended it to everybody and his boss bought several computers for the office and for himself. and the others are okay but his boss's personal laptop was barang cacat (wireless internet cant be detected) so my dad felt really bad.. haha.. and he bought it to a repair center (i guess it's in Pluit) and the process was very complicated and upsetting. so i dont know if i should recommend you or not. lets just hope you are lucky and you dont need to repair it. :P

the economy situation is getting worse and worst. today our currency is 12,500 against USD.

wow it's lacking 2 most important things actually. although i seldom use the CD slot (i'm sorry, what's the word??? my brain is freezing now). and my dorm's connection uses the ADSL wire. but in Indo many areas are already covered by wireless internet arent they. i guess you really have to be very sure and 'mantep' because laptop is something you use everyday and it's not cheap and you're gonna be using it for a long time....

i'm so desperate now because renminbi (chinese currency) is already 1700 rupiah. 2 years ago when i first came to China it was only 1200-ish. and price is china is also climbing so everything is so expensive now. sigh... i wish i had a time to do part time job. i just wish this semester could be over soon and i could take a part time job to treat myself more sushi and ice cream.

hmm... why don't you consider ASUS EEE-PC? It's small and light, but quite powerful and it comes with Windows XP instead of Vista so it's pretty fast. Do you know the game SPORE? It can be run very smoothly on this machine. I think it has both cd-rom drive and LAN port as well. The price is definitely reasonable considering the performance and portability. just my 2 cents ^^

Are you running Windows Vista? If that's the case then the problem is probably not with your laptop. If you're running XP then maybe you need to get it diagnosed as there might be some problems. Vista is seriously sluggish. I'm running Windows XP with an old 1.66GHz dual core processor and 1GB RAM and it's a lot faster than my friend's laptop which is running Vista with faster processor and 2GB RAM.

well, IMHO, if he's a good boss, he should listen to what his employees have in mind. He has to be open minded.

I think, this is some kind of cheaper version.... At first, I doubt whether it was original or not, but there is an original sticker on it. The box is thin and only contains 2 DVDs...NO necklace of course.....

For anybody who hasn't bought the DVD yet, I hope you'll get it soon, because the DVD is DIAO!!!
