I've been wanting to start this thread all morning. *Cough*

I just had the worst morning commute ever. The guy in front of me was driving this huge SUV while smoking cigarettes. I knew he was smoking cigarettes because of the stink that seeped in through my car's ventilation system. Then, I started coughing. I also develped a bad headache, chest pain, and lost hearing in one ear, which really stunk because I was listening to LeeHom. :cry: I followed this guy all the way to the city. On the way, he threw out one cigarette butt and lit another cigarette! Then, when I went to turn onto another road to get to the college, he turned, too! I couldn't get away from this guy! :oops: What had I ever done to him?! He was just some random guy on the road, and he was really distracting himself between lighting up, smoking, drinking coffee, and talking on his Bluetooth. It was really distracting for me, too, because I have a really sensitive respiratory system and I had to deal with his smoke. I've had bronchitis several times as well as pneumonia, so I try to take care of myself, but I can't prevent things like this. :crazy:

Second-hand smoke is a big problem, and Christopher Reeve's (the guy who played Superman) wife died from lung cancer because of second-hand smoke. I understand that people get addicted, but companies like the ones up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina just take advantage of it. Since I reached the age of 18, I have been legally allowed to buy cigarettes, but why would I want to? :rasp: It's a bad habit that harms others, and smoking while driving can easily cause car accidents.

oh man, this reminds me of a story that my driving teacher was telling us in class ..

there's this guy who had his window wind down at the highway and he was going pretty fast .. and he was smoking .. when he wanted to throw the cigaratte butt away, the wind blew it in his shirt and he basically struggle to get that thing out his shirt and wham .. lose concentration a min and bang into a tree .. he died ..

anyways .. i hate smoking too .. not that i ever tried but i think smokers should think of the people around them .. it's bad enough that they are smoking all the dirty stuff into their lungs , even worse when they spread the smoke to second hand victims ..

when i see people smoking, i would walk away from them .. it's such an unhealthy habit ..

i understand you, is really annoying when you are not smoker people around to smoke into your face i hate that, cause i have to breath their smoke and i get tears in my eyes from it... Too bad that most of my friends are smokers so i can't do much about that when we are out together ....

I don't get smoking either.

I understand they have to smoke outdoors now (in UK, I'm not sure about other countries) but even then, I believe I have my right to show my disgust by looking them straight in the eye and make a disapproved look. Like mister, yes I'll die but I'll rather die of something else rather than your stupid grotty black tar in my lungs.

I just remembered my stay in a hotel last year. They gave our room away even though we made reservations, and we ended up with a smoking room. We sprayed Febreeze and had them change the sheets, but it still stunk like cigarette smoke.

Same thing with my car. Owned by a smoker and the car still smells like smoke! Smoking should be ban internationally. Dont see any merits in smoking. I hate eating out when ppl are just smoking right by, can enjoy my food. Well i cough when i walk past a smoker. Also hold my breath for an awful long time. Who invented smokes anyways!

The other day..friends & I were in my other friend's car. And he started smoking and we were all covering our noses X_X We wanted to get into our other friend's car :shifty:

It's retarded too how it's easier for non smokers to get lung cancer from the second hand smoking :-x

I think a lot of it comes from where I live. :oops: Winston-Salem, North Carolina is where many of them get manufactured. I live where the stuff actually grows! :crazy: It isn't at all pleasant to live in a state famous for producing tobacco.

I'm totally agree. I hate smokers! They're just making pollution.
They're just idiots that don't know how to keep healthy.

Guess what?! I totally hate those smokers. I just realized that all the people that i've met are MOSTLY smokers. WHY IS THAT?!

I just cant figure it out why people like to smoke... Why, why, why?! I almost turning into passive smokers now. Where ever i went, there must be at least 2 or 3 smoking in that area, I'M SO PISSED OFF!! It's just like i've been chased by smokers, coz everhwere i went, i could smell smokes, cigarettes smokes.

And the funny thing is that i heard the government here has announced, that smoking is prohibited everywhere now, in the restaurants, public areas like towns and etc, people will get fined if that smoke, BUT who knows, i can see people who still smoked in certain areas. The worst was that i even saw there was one guy who even DARED to smoke while a police car passed by. And my expression was like --- > :shock:

Anyway, there's one thing i would like to say that i really hope people got fined by smoking. Dont say that i'm mean to do that or should pity them, BUT IT'S THEIR OWN FAULT, own fault of not FOLLOWING THE RULES!! And i'm hoping it right now, wanted to see that with my own eyes.

i m not quite anti smoking but definitely very anti social smokers!! smoking is an addiction like drinking but in moderation n without affecting others , it is acceptable to me . unfortunately both moderate habits becomes addictions that becomes anti social behaviours . addicted drinkers becomes alcoholics who becomes problematic to themselves n to people around them . addicted smokers must have their smoke n cares not for others affected by their smoking . that's the sad truth abt both " mild social habits" that evolve into addiction that cares only for their own needs!

p.s. do not start smoking or drinking if u do not wish to have them control yr living style. the true " cool " ppl does not hve ciggie between teeth nor drink in hand but are ppl doing worthwhile deeds with their healthy mind n body .

Ahhhh I just wanted to put my contribution because most have already been said which I totally agree.

Being a passive smoker is the worst because even when you ask politely to the smoker next to you, he/she either doesn't bother to listen or they try to simulate they are "moving" where you can still breath their smoke!!!! Sometimes, they even move where the wind is blowing! I think moving where you are doesn't change the situation, if someone is there, I think smokers should turn off their cigarettes and that's it. That's the only way to stop "killing" other people. If you are smoker, ok smoke when you are alone, not in public places. I know people that don't smoke when they are alone, and when they are surrounded by people they start smoking like chimneys...I think they are called social-smokers? >.< Anyways, I never understood why is it so cool smoking? I don't see the fun on it, apart from the fact that it kills you and you still do it knowing that. It is such a waste of money and you are not only putting at risk yourself, but others too. Some say it calms you or w/e..I think that's psychological; and even if it is true, there are other ways to relax, and much healthier, and not harmful!

i think..smokers should not have rights to sit inside a building together with children and pregnant women and old people and other healthy people...esp things to do with sports or any recreation or eating places..unless outdoor hawker food then how to control right?

but in my last living place - australia and new zealand, the bars are quite good man - they banned smoking in public places..and all must smoke outside...if u r just passing by schools - cos australasia is a very community based country, schools are in just about every community - i think u can get bloody fined for it..


but having said that, not all smokers are bad la...
i stay far far far away from ppl when i smoke...after i smoke i eat gum and i see children or moms or anyone that's healthy enough i will not take a puff until they pass...or i will just avoid them...SEE CONSCIOUS ALSO WAT....

everytime i see a smoker, my respect for them automatically goes down a notch. esp young people (older people i can understand, because they didnt quite know the consequences when they started back in the days), but young ppl, they know perfectly crystal clear how addicting and harmful smoking is, and yet what was their motive for picking up that first puff? peer pressure, because there is NO other reason why someone would start smoking besides wanting to fit in. and not only are they killing themselves, theyre killing the people around them too.

and honestly, i cant respect people like that. people who are too weak to overcome peer pressure, people who would give up their health just to fit in. thats disgusting.

My sister smokes. She says it is to "relieve stress." Sure. Whatever.

But anywho, I generally do not mind because she never does it around me. I just hate it when she smells all smokey though. I can not even stand BBQ smoke. I start coughing. And then my sister comes home smelling as if she sat on a charcoal grill. I just hate the smell.

Although, it is her decision, and I honestly do not care. She does not even do it that often. We are Asian, so we probably will not die from it anyway. (Ahaha)

Here, in Canada, smoking in shop is now forbidden, it's been a long time tho... And it happenned once or before the law, when I worked in a convenience store and people enter with a cigarette... I always try to turn around andtake a deep breath and talk to them and ask what they want and faking that I was looking for something a little bit further and go back. I was paranoi too... When I sniffed that smell, I kept on thinking : <<Crap, I'll get cancer and die!!!>>
It's also pretty hard to convince a family member to stop smoking...

the world's already full of pollution and deaths, we dont want anymore.

I think pregnant women who smokes makes them a bad parent already..i know i sound mean and i really don't want to offend anyone but it's awful seeing pregnant women smoke and knowing that a baby is being negatively effected by it.

I see parents smoke with their kids around and other people smoking around children. Its even worse when they ignore "no smoking" signs and no-one does anything about it.

In Australia, its ILLEGAL to buy cigarettes if you are under 18. But what do I see? 15-year-olds (or maybe even younger) smoking in front of the school!

I'm 16, and as I said - I hate smoking. Seeing someone younger than me smoking really disgusts me.

Who gives them the cigarettes? Their parents? Or did the store owners not ask for ID?
There has to be more responsibility, for people of any age.
