I'm getting really. really. really. really. really. tired of PEOPLE FREAKING DISCRIMINATING ME BECAUSE I'M ASIAN LOOKING!
Here's a bit of info from a Facebook group:
link to the group (http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2221550173)
Are you Asian and sick and tired of people saying all Asian people are the same? Then this group is for you. People need to learn the diversity of the Asian ethnicities.
----Some info and things to know----
1. We do not comprehend the words "ching chong".
2. Wth does "ching chong" mean?!
3. Not all Koreans make nuclear bombs or eat dogs, stop stereotyping.
4. Just cause you see an Asian person it doesn't mean they're Chinese, they could be Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino etc.
5. We are not all communists.
6. We don't always eat egg rolls and when we do it's like once in a blue moon.
7. Asian girls with long black hair HATE being called The Grudge or the girl from The Ring(Me being one of them)
8. Same goes for Asian guys and being called Grudge boy.
9. Dynasty Express and China King are not considered "real" Chinese food.
10. We don't use THAT much MSG.
11. Don't ask us to speak our language, we will when we feel like it.
12. We don't know how to translate your name so stop asking cause most likely we can't.
13. Don't ask us to teach you curse words either.
14. Stop trying to pair up Asian guys and girls at your school and say they look cute together. Not all Asians belong together.
15. All Asian countries speak different languages.
16. Just because we're Asian it doesn't mean that we know karate, kung fu, tae kwon do etc. Even though we are probably capable of kicking your butt anyway.
17. Don't say all Asian people look the same, that's like saying all white people look the same, all African Americans look the same and all Hispanics look the same. When will you realize your stupidity?
18. Surprise! Not all Asians are good at math.
19. Not all Asians are short.
20. Or skinny.
21. By the way, it's VietNAMese, not VietMANese.
22. Not all Asian families run a nail shop although some of them do.
23. Same goes for convenient stores and laundromats.
24. What do you people stare at? Haven't you seen an Asian person before?
25. Just to let you know, it's NOT funny when you tape your eyes up and start speaking gibberish. That just gives us another reason to kick your butt.
26. Go ahead, make fun of us. We'll just make fun of you in our own language.
27. It's ok for us to call each other F.O.B's but if you call us one you're asking for a beating.
28. Yeah we eat rice, so what? Got rice?
29. Don't fold your hands and bow at us like you know what you're doing cause honestly you look like an idiot.
30. Don't ask if the Chinese restaurants use cat in their food, if they did they would label it "cat lo mein" instead of beef lo mein. They don't use cat if you didn't already guess that by now.
31. No...Yao Ming is not my uncle.
32. Chopsticks are the perfect utensil and the easiest to wash.
33. White rice is the perfect side dish.
34. Soy Sauce tastes great on almost everything. =P
35. People from India are Asians too.
36. People from the Middle East are just as Asian as people from the southeast.
37. Not all Asians are bad drivers.
*This is not a racist group so please don't be offended by any of this. These are true facts that people need to know before they decide to go stereotype Asian people. Everyone is welcome Asian or not, all haters will be kicked out. Invite all your friends for support!*
**
Again, credit to Catherine Diep from Facebook.
When I read all that, I felt right at home. And was glad that I was NOT alone.
I HATE it when people ask me to write their names in KOREAN when I'm TAIWANESE.
I HATE it when people copy the way my eyes are. Yeah I'm f*cking proud of my slanted eyes, now go get a life you arseface.
They pass around stupid chainmails about how Taiwanese people eat babies. NO I DON'T F*CKING EAT BABIES OR HUMANS.
There's no such phrase in my language as "Ching bang dang chong" whatever. If you want to learn how to communicate in my language LEARN IT PROPERLY. DON'T TALK GIBBERISH. IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY. IT HURTS FEELINGS.
We have the power too to punch and kick your ass, so you might as well stop trying to imitate us.
NOT ALL ASIANS LOOK THE SAME. EVERYBODY IS UNIQUE. NOBODY ON EARTH'S IDENTICAL. JUST BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE SLANTED EYES AIN'T MEAN THAT WE LOOK THE SAME.
It's like saying Will Smith looks like Michael Jackson.
DON'T TRY TO IMITATE BUDDHA OR CLASP YOUR HANDS TOGETHER AND BOW. THAT'S JUST DIMWIT SHIT. ALTHOUGH I'M BUDDHIST, DON'T GO ASSUMING THAT EVERYBODY ELSE WHO ARE ASIAN ARE ALSO BUDDHIST. THERE ARE ASIAN CATHOLICS, CHRISTIANS, ETC.
My country is just like your country. It's not an alien place.
Please people...when is the world going to embrace diversity?
--
I think that's quite enough...for today. I'm just so mad...
Anyone care to join? :wink2:

I'll join! That was some rant :-) But yeah, I know what you're talking about. I'm Chinese, and there's only one other girl besides me that's Chinese in my school. The other Asians are a lot of Vietnamese, with a few being Korean and one Japanese. I've met four people (two being this year) who thought Asia was a country. They were like 'What? How can you be Asian if you're Chinese?!' Then they get people in India confused with Native Americans. They also think every Asian person is Chinese. So yeah, I was ready to explode in disbelief at their ignorance. There was also even more than a few people who I hardly knew at all, saying that everyone should be in my group since I'm so smart and good at math, when I'm not. I'm horrible at it, and I'll always will be.
Some of these stereotyping has gotta be expected however, it was mean of those classmates of yours trying to copy your eyes. If that ever happened to me, man I'd be getting into tons of trouble. Luckily enough, I live in a very nice community :)

stereotyping of asians is so annoying, i mean, for me..i've lived in New Zealand for most of my life, and my english is even better than most of the europeans right..and just because you're asian...they assume you CANT speak english, and start speaking to you in 'baby' sentences...and it PISSES me off SO MUCH...

37. Not all Asians are bad drivers.

I don't really agree with the only asians themselves can call themselves FOBS.. because its contradictory. It's like a white person saying "nigger" is wrong, but when a black person says it, its okay. If its wrong, shouldn't neither people be allow to say it?

simple_girl

I love this thread
im ashame to say but i was so over being an asian/chinese when i first entered this country and then even more in high school. Being a minority and having ching-chong or whatever shit as your second name is so effing irritating and is just racist. Like there's some rcaists shits out there who target you just because are asian sometimes their subtle about it which makes it even worst because they don't want other people to think their an ignorant piece of shit.

Like i always wondered when will people get over the racism thing like people in in asia dn't know how freaking good they have it..sure they whine about how their work is so much harder but trying to learn while someone twists your talk that the capital of malaysia is ompa lompa when its kuala Lumper

And how asians are bad drivers..uh..only my mum....even a very prominent radio host said that all asians are bad drivers and then said those are the facts its like considering how big your influence is on millions of the middle and elder population you could stop your personal opinions so you don't make more people racist

When a boy from china came into my class..it was one of the worst times of my life with poeple trying to pair us together and saying why dont you to go out..its like....i dont tell you to go out with people with the same hair colour!

im serious i can love this country but when i hate it, it is very strong, there so so many ignorant people out there and i just want to say...get a grip on your self..this is not your country..you actually stole it from south-eastern asian people..so technically this land is more mine then yours(referring to australia's history).

Like and then they find out your origin, malaysian so a guy started calling me a 'malaysian mutt' like just coz its alliteration doesnt mean its true in actual fact his more of a mutt then me im chinese(we all know we are like hardly 'mixed') and they've practically mixed with all european races (anglo-saxon, german)

I have to say the most shameful thing ive ever encountered at one low point with all this sterotyping is that i did'nt want to be an asian/chinese/different form everyone else..but now im like whatever im proud. because these people do want to make you feel bad about being different.

I'm chinese but I live in Indonesia, and I hate the stereotyping that asians are white, coz actually my skin is a bit brown.

And I really AGREE with that math thing, I'm not really bad, but I'm also not that good

I juz hope that there'll be no more racism and stupid stereotyping

Well, I live in the UK and I've had my fair share of racist attacks, whether it was vicious or not. I did really hate it because it made me remember that I was not one of them.

I've had less attacks now, in fact, I haven't had any for about a year now, and if when I did have them, it was much rarer than before. I attribute this to the fact that I was a very ugly kid and I was also very insensitive to things and said cruel words myself too. I guess it might have been a mixture of many things, among which is fascist attacks because I looked really different. Kids can be cruel.

I AM SO JOINING...my high school had absolutely no chinese most was half fillipinos but two years ago they started flocking in like indonesians and honkers....and we have aboriginal people (they asians rite?)
and yes im over the "ur so fat lose some weight or you'll never marry a chinese back in ur home country" they constant ranting from mum dad uncle aunty..whe will it stop..it is not a crime to be a size 10/12!!!!!!! im not going to mould my self into steretype asians...and i''m so over people thinking i'll get liek a 100 for my hsc (a test in nsw, aus) not asians r smart..esp if you are compare to ur cousins constantly 'oh they are doing 4 unit maths oh and chem and physics and they are so going into sydney" and over comparing 'oh u cousin is a doctor, ur other cousin is an accountant oh and ur other cousin is an engineer"...
and no not all asians have small boobs stop staring at me coz ive got some ....it will make ppl like me more insecure !!!!!!!!!

hmm.. well for your questions. i dont know
like i think FOB is more of a style now rather than a type of people. Like there are FOB clothing, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the person is "fresh off the boat" like as for me, im definetly not Fresh off the Boat because i've immagrated to canada for over 10 years now, but still i like FOBbish clothing. So people look at me as FOB and i guess i don't really mind that. so anyway. i dont know if i was contradicting myself, but either way, that's just what i think. =)

Yeah, I dislike the discrimination as well especially asian and muslim. they always think they're right and upper class. I did my university in Malaysia and one malay asked me to give him chinese name. And I named him: Tai Li Cin (in indonesia it means: slippery shit) :lolabove:

vanessAHH!!
11-14-2007, 11:53 AM
^ HAHHAHAAAA do you known that that made my day! slippery shit, genious...

i love this thread. seriously. i have never heard that FOB thing before though...
but as for the Nigger thing, its a word i use sometimes if im taking the piss, but none of my friends use it. (there are only 2 other black kids in my year group and im not really friends with either haha)

it wouldnt really bother me if my friends use that word if we were quoting movies etc, which is when i would normally use it myself. but they never do.
i'd call my friends nigger just for laughs, but if some stranger came up and called me nigger...there'd be trouble.

all the "Ching Chong China man" stuff is a load of crap. its not even funny, but the people who say this think they are hilarious. they need to wise the hell up. im sure if people, black, asian, hispanic or whatever went and pointed out all the features and stereotypes of white poeple they wouldnt like it at all to say the least.

i'd probably get friggin deported.

omg this post is so long!!! sorry people!

william hung contributed to a lot of asian stereotyping >< i remember one chinese dude got called a ching chong when william hung got his 15 minutes of fame and people in class were like mimicking him (hung).. what does ching chong mean anyway??? i remember lee-hom saying that if black people get to be called niggers, then we (chinese people) should be called chiggers.. o.o

vanessAHH!!
11-15-2007, 10:55 AM
HAHAHA!

actually, just what i had been saying yesterday!!!
my friend, who doesnt use the word nigger, because its racist, broke into a massive bought of talking gibberish and pretending it was chinese/japanese (she didnt think there was a difference)

of course, i pointed out the irony of her not saying nigger because it offends some people, but then taking the piss out of another language. she thought there was nothing inapropriate about it at all.

wild. seriously.

O good.. I've been waiting for a thread like this to come up!

Ok so first of all I've got another bit of info to add to the list in the first post which is:

THERE IS NO FRIGGING ALPHABET IN THE CHINESE LANGUAGE SO STOP ASKING HOW DO WE KNOW HOW TO SPELL WORDS IF THERE ISN'T ONE... JUST BECAUSE ALL THE EUROPEAN LANGUAGES HAVE AN ALPHABET DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE ONE!

*damn.. watching tv now be back to write more later!*

edit:
OK.. I'm back!

Carrying on... i hate it how people do karate moves and say "Hay-ya" in a chinesey sounding way.. I mean come on, just because you don't have any life doesn't mean that you have to take the piss out of chinese people.. karate is part of our culture if you racist people didn't know!

the racist comments that come out of people's mouths just go too far and i'm like "wooow.. is there any need for this?" and yeh.. WHERE THE HELL DID THE WORDS CHING CHONG COME FROM? well i've never heard of it in my language...

I've never been nasty to any race before so why should they be nasty to me, well, in saying that i mean like i've never called an indian paki and an african nigger, because those words sound just as bad as the word chink - and i hate being called it.

Also, i hate how chinese people can call themselves chink or chinky or whatever.. it's just the same as an indian going round saying "haha.. i'm a paki" or a black person going round saying "hey.. i'm a nigger".. people don't do that so why should chinese people.. does it make them feel better to call themself it because other people are going to?

Even worse, my cousin (she's 12 and chinese) was over at my house and we were talking about which chinese celebrities we liked and i said jay chou then got a pic of him and she was like he's chink and i was like WHAT?! and then i said what do you mean, she answered by going he's got eyes like this and pulled up her eyes and i was like OMG! how can u say that?!

...and we were watching some TVB series and she was like "ewww.. he's got chinky eyes" and "ewww.. she's chink".. me: "what the hell?" and it finally got to me and i had to explode and give her a tiny lecture..

I said.. "hey do you know what the word chink means?"

Cousin: "yeh, it means this *made her eyes go up*"

me: well no it doesn't only mean that, it's a racist word that racist people call chinese people

Cousin: *didn't say anything*

me: it's like the word nigger for black people and paki for indians... so don't go calling chinese people chinks when you are one yourself!

and from then on, she never said the word chink.. LOL..

Woo.. that's a lot better now.. enough of my opinions..

I think people should be curious about other cultures, instead of thinking that they know everything. Not all Asians have slanted eyes. Jay Chou's eyes are a lot different from Selina, Hebe, and Ella's eyes. Not all people from Asia speak Chinese, and Chinese isn't really just a single spoken language, since you can't understand Cantonese or Hokkien if you speak Mandarin. I wish racist people would stop ruining things for those who are simply curious.
Anyways, if human life originated in Asia, doesn't that make us all Asian?

Can I join this thread? I'm white--so please don't blast me because of it.

I HATE the word ching-chong or chink. Last time I heard someone call a chinese person that, I told them off big-time. People can be stupid and cruel!!

I HATE when people make fun of the language. I love the sound of Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean. I am desperately trying to learn Mandarin, and I also want to learn Japanese one day. I envy Mandarin speakers for their linguistic ability. Pronouncing all the tones is tricky!!

Most of my friends are Asian, black, native. I don't honestly seem to have much in common with other white people these days...

Are all Asians good at math? I don't know...most Asian people I know are pretty smart, but I think some still sucked at math. On the other hand, I am white, and I got 100% in math in college. LOL

Do all Asians have small eyes? Well, I think I have small eyes, too. And, I have always wanted more almond-shaped eyes because I think they look nicer. And I LOVE Jay's eyes!! So who cares if they are small? It's what's inside a person's eyes that counts.

Do all Asians run restaurant/laundry/convenience store? Well, I guess some do... But my best friend is Chinese, and he's a surgeon. So much for that stereotype...

Do all Asians look the same? Of course they don't. That's just a dumb comment for anyone to make. (But I do honestly have trouble telling the guys from Farenheit apart...LOL.) They are just all sooo cute. But then I also mix up white people because I am really awful with facial recognition.

I have never had racist remarks made to me. But as a kid I was teased and made fun up---too smart, too chubby, too awkward...
It wasn't a very nice thing, and words CAN hurt!! I wish I could apologize for all the stupid and thoughtless remarks made by white people against Asians. Not all white people are the same, either. Some of us have good hearts, and try to treat everyone with respect, regardless of race/colour/creed.

I guess when it comes to Jay fans, I am the minority here. LOL
I am honoured to be a part of your forum.

^ yes, i believe not all white people are MEAN.
and anyhow, any race are MEAN too.

People being kind or mean is not the racial factor.
It depends on the personality
Not only white people ching chong on asian.
Even Indonesian origin do ching chong us, the chinese who live in Indonesia.

First, I hate them,
Then after I made friends with some of them, I know that not all of them are like that.
The one who being racial somehow is the low educated people

You guys can see, We can see so many white people is learning Mandarin in China.

I totally agree.. the people at my school who normally come out with the racial comments are the "not-so-bright" kids to put it politely..

I agree on that not all white are harsh and racist towards chinese/asian because some african do as well.. but the funny thing is that the indian people at my school take the mick out of chinese people.. well hello.. we are both from asia!

It seems that people make fun of everyone, whether for race, religion, or appearances. Even though I'm white and hardly ever got made fun of for my ethnicity (it still happened, of course), everyone called me "metal-mouth" and "Eliza Thornberry" in Middle School, since I had braces for over three years. Good thing the orthodontists were wrong and I didn't have to get headgear.

I hate it when people call Latin Americans in general "Mexicans" or "illegal aliens." Same thing for everybody else. People who make fun of others who are different from them are stupid and ignorant. If they didn't go around in life so oblivious to everything, they would realize that learning Mandarin or any other Chinese language is hard, that everyone's eyes are different, and that Japanese and Korean people are not Chinese and speak completely different languages. However, people are idiots, so you can't make them pay attention.

I love this thread!!!! I really hate when they are like: ohhh say something in chinese :-) how do you say my name? and you are like

Last time I went back home I went to this club and they were calling all foreign ppl to come to the front...so because my friends were teasing me they called me and I pretended to come from China (I am chinese but I was born in Peru). So I go there with all the foreigners and actually I was the only asian there... so what the host did was to interview each of us and makes us dance peruvian traditional music... so when it came to my turn, he didnt even let me speak, like he asked my name and when I was going to answer, they turned off my microphone and another person pretended to speak for me so he started his ching chong thing, and then he started to say some random japanese words and everyone in the audience started laughing  At the end, the host started to simulate a kung fu stage, so he started making stupid poses... I think I was supposed to act like Chung-li, since it was opened to public and my friends were there, I tried not to get mad  so I just smiled and pretended not to understand "Spanish" since I was supposed to be from China *sighs*anyway I just did a pose and then everyone in the audience started to clap U_U...I just kicked his butt with the poses thing cuz he just looked like and idiot :@ and of course....at the end with the peruvian dance I nailed it ^^ *cof cof* so that I won the competition D: and they gave me 2 bottles of beers as a price D:

anyways, I also noticed that in American movies, they always use asian ppl to make fun of...examples: step up 2, the hot chick...and huh~when I go with my friends, they are all LOL while Im sitting there and

*sighs*

I've went through many many chinese racism/stereotyping form people(kung fu, makes rice crackers<lol??, etc etc). But now im older, i think that this racism that this racism thing is gettign too serious. I find that if i take it offensively, people will do it more seeing as im the minority. So, instead, i can joke about my race, but also about theirs at the same time, and in the end its all a joke. Like at my friends school, this guy won this calculus award(chinese), and his friend, who was chinese, yelled out "MOST CHINESE AWARD!". I mean, thats hilarious, and everyone laughed(half school population is chinese).

But i think the funniest sort-of-racist comment was the "hey, does your dad make rice crackers?". lol, rice crackers...

Hahaha, oh my, so much anger XD Where do you live? Cause I'm Vietnamese, er Asian, however you'd want it classified, and I don't get things like that. Maybe when I was little, but people are more mature now, at least the ones that I meet. But I know what you mean xD

man, how can i missed this thread.

Ihow do you say my name? and you are like

i remember getting that question when i was like 7. cuz one of my classmate ask another classmate what's her name in spanish, which kind of work out, u know like robert is roberto, maria for mary in spanish. but when she asked me the same question i was like :glug:

as for authentic chinese food, panda express is not it!! i even worked there last year for half a year. actually i didnt even know about panda express and what it was until i worked there. its just plain americanized chinese food, there is no orange chicken, hot-sour soup, fortune cookies in china! basically panda express is another american version of ethnic food, like taco bell.

as for calling reccent immigrants fobs, as an abc (american born chinese- i use it to describe myself as a second generation chinese american), i live with fobs. to me its alright to say it, cuz they use the term "abc" to describe me to their umm fobby friends, so they would understand why im so quite in their chinese conversation. i dunno but i just see it as a slang and simple way to describe what kind of people i have as housemates and friends.i use "fobs" to say they came here like five years ago, so instead of like saying few sentences to describe my housemates, i just use "fobs". but yeah, so it is okay for asian people to call other asians, fobs. but if we're using the word for like racist comments, then first of all, the illegal immigrants u call fobs, they didnt came here on a boat, they flew here in a plane. noone come here in boats anymore, its too old school lol. well, there are still some people but yeah. u know what i mean.

i think i can keep on going with this topic... oh yeah im an asian-american studies major.

Some people are not aware of what they say or ask sometimes. Not sounding to defend ignorance when it is expressed. I am saddened to hear that people still have not graduated from stereotypes. I am also sad to hear that people still use derogatory slangs in regards to people of different races. Especially from the Asian Culture. I lived this my whole life actually, being steroetyped to represent the whole race of my people African Americans, as they call it hear in America. Actually my family is from the Bahamas, and Cuba. Maybe they did come from Africa, but we personally have not traced anyone back to Africa. Nor have any pictures from of old from Africa. So I consider myself OTHER.

I had no idea really what people say about other races mostly, because I don't have people around closely that speak ignorantly. But I hear people sometimes. They are no close friends of mine. My close friends that I hang with do not say things like that, because they are from different backgrounds as well. Respect is a must in my friendship circle. I respect your opinions, but it cannot be about people in general, since we all bleed the same.

I personally was not raised to think like that. My family is far from being perfect people, and I have said some things before, but my parents were the ones to correct me if I ever said anything about people in general that was derogatory. Somthing of course you learn while attending school. I am older now, and know better.

I cannot apologize for everyone who has shown this ignorance, but I apologize for you having to feel like you do from hearing people's ignorance. All people have to do is to get to know other people better by being their friends, not about their race. I cannot answer questions in behalf of all the people of my race. I can only answer for myself. Even though we are the same racially, we are so different in the way we were brought up. But again, I am so sorry that people just don't think before they speak and offend other people.

I am on this site, because I love the Asian culture, music, etc.. Many may think it strange because of who I am, but my parents were very appreciative and versatile in music, friends, and many aspects of their lives. I love that they were this way. It gave me a reason to learn about other people, and to appreciate what they appreciate also. Please don't think that everyone in America thinks this way. These persons that you are speaking of, have not been taught properly by their parents. Jay Chou rules!

dont you just love it when people think all asians look the same?
I still have trouble telling different nationalities apart, but I know they don't all look the same. Once I know someone, I can easily recognize that particular person. I can't just guess what country people are from, though, and it's very frustrating. Unlike some people, though, I know the difference between Thailand and Taiwan, that ninjas aren't Chinese, and that the Great Wall was not built to keep out the Japanese. I also know that Chinese people do not have squinty eyes. Now, I correct people when they say that and try to explain what "single eyelids" are.

It really irks me when people claim that Chinese movies are violent. They must have never seen "Secret." I mean, the movies people see for the U.S. are not directed towards the Chinese audience. They are, rather, directed towards the American audience, which calls for a large amount of violence, since American movies have that tendency to be violent. Then, they think it's not normal for an American to watch a Chinese movie in Chinese, like there's something wrong with an American watching something Chinese that's actually Chinese. (Remember, I'm not Asian, just learning Mandarin.) What's Chinese about it if it's not Chinese?! :glug: They feel like they can judge movies that they wouldn't even watch and know nothing about? How do these people survive?

It also drives me nuts when people tell me that what I'm saying or what I'm listening to doesn't "sound" Chinese. OF COURSE IT SOUNDS LIKE CHINESE, 'CUZ IT'S FREAKIN' MANDARIN!!!! :rasp: OK, that makes me feel better. Of course Jay Chou sings in Mandarin. He's from Taiwan, where they speak Mandarin, not Thai! So, I tell someone I'm into music from Taiwan, and then they start giving me directions to a Thai restaurant, and I'm like, "WHAT?! I said Taiwan, not Thailand!" Then they ask, "Well, what's the difference?" Then I put my hand over my eyes and cry over their ignorance.
