Jay busy with being a Wu Nan (dancer)
(Note: the word Wu Nan actually has a slang meaning of gigolo.... the article just used the word as a method of grabbing attention, no offence meant....)
Only four more days to Jay's concert in Taiwan. For the past few days, he had been training hard behind closed doors, but did not forget to send two tickets to good friend, Jolin Tsu, inviting her to his concert. This would be a belated present from Jay as he had not given her anything for her birthday.
Coincidently, Jolin was born on the same day as Jay's mother, both on 15 Sep. Jay's colleagues often tease him, saying that's why Jay was so nice to Jolin.
Jay's 928 concert, what can be expected from it? The executive manager of AhEr recording company, the company that Jay belonged, had commented that this concert would be one of high entertainment value. The company had spent about NT$3,000,000 on just the stage and lighting effects, and would make the fans feel that they had paid NT$1,800 for a NT$3,600 experience.
(Note: S$1 is about NT$20
and US$1 gets about S$1.78, according to latest exchange rates
so you just do the conversion yourself....)
The past two days, construction of the stage had started, and the stage is about 7-8 storey high. After inspecting the stage, Jay said, "Wow, this stage is almost as tall as Ming Shi (Ming Shi is one of the three major TV stations in Taiwan, and Jay was refering to the building the station is housed)
The stage is not only very tall, it is alo very big in dimension. From one end to the opposite end, it was almost 200 metres. The company was worried that Jay might not be able to take it, if he had to 'run' from one end to the next, for his next costume change, then 'run' back on the stage again, so they prepared a scooter, to send him to and fro the backstage. this would be one of the more interesting aspect of the concert.
Jay is so popular, and his concert tickets are selling like hotcakes, almost 20,000 tickets have been sold. When Jay was informed of the brisk ticket sales, he was delighted, and relieved. He had not expect this concert to be on so grand a scale, and that the company would be spending so much on the stage.
When his company executive manager, Yang Jun Rong, told Jay that he has to get his dance steps down pat, and his movements more robust, as this is a big stage he is dancing on. It is then when Jay realised what it is like to be 'under stress'
These days, Jay had been working really hard on his dancing. When it comes to Jay's music, he has often been described to be a genius, but what about his dancing?
His dance instructor, Zhao Wei Hong, revealed that, Jay is very competitive, and didn't like to lose. The instructor said that the first day he taught him any dance step, he would think this student is not very exceptional in his movement, but the next day when he came for the practise, he would surprise the instructor with his improvement. "He must have been secretly training at home!" commented his instructor.
Faced with such a 'hardworking' student, the instructor promised that on the day of the concert, Jay would not be merely showing off his Dragon fist gongfu. His dancing would also be a refeshing change to his fans!

Jay and David practising thru the night
After dispelling rumours that they were on bad terms, Jay and David have been working even more c
loely together. To prepare for Saturday's concert, the duo had met the night before, to practise "Black Tangerine" secretly in the studio. Jay personally played the accom
paniment to David, and even added a segment of rap, creating new music, and new sparks.
For the fan who had gotten the tickets for the concert, to see David as the heavyweight special guest for the concert, was like getting twice the value on one ticket price.
Before the duo met, there was a lot of speculation about the rivalry between them, causing much embrassment and awkwardness. But after the sincere meeting and discussion between the bosses of the two companies, the two finally made contact. With Jay's personal appearance at David's party, and presenting him with the invitation, David also sincerely stated that he'll supported Jay all the way.
To prepare for his first collaboration, David arrived at the studio soon after he finished his schedule at 10pm. The two of them spent the night practising tirelessly. Just one song, "Black Tangerine" took them alsmot two hours.
With Jay on the piano and David doing the vocal, that start the conversation between the duo. For these two men, with more than 10 years age difference, there seemed to be an endless amount of things they can talk about, especially on music. This also gave a new face to the song "Black Tangerine".
Jay normally like to say the word 'Diao',(which I think in Taiwan, is a rather slangish slang), but when it comes to working with David, Jay 'resolved' to be the obedient and polite little boy. :whatever:
Everyone was having their dinner when David arrived at the studio. When Jay saw him, he immediately put down his favorite chicken wings to greet him. But between the two, they quickly got into the topic, and discussed music. Finally working together after so long, the two had a lot to discuss and exchange, and had benefited greatly from this collaboration.
When talking about Jay, David stated," The first time I met him, he had bought me a CD that he had brought himself. Although the price tag was still attched to the CD, but I already can feel that he is a genuine lover of music, and a real musician. So I hoped that this collaboration will be a real exchange of music, and not merely a promotional gimmick."

Jay and David duel on the stage
After the news got out that David Tao would be the special guest on Jay Chou's concert, this concert has been the concert of much anticipation. After all, this is a good step in the direction of future collaboration across companies. In addition, this concert would feature the two artistes who had been previously reported as rivals, and supposedly cannot stand each other.
Thus, this is collaboration was no mean feat. Not only it would mark a major day in the music history, it would also dispel rumours that the two artistes are on bad terms. With David Tao as the special guest, this makes the concert of the year 2002, an event that is even more anticipated by all.
After confirming david's attendence on the concert, what the duo will be doing on the stage together became the point of attention. Everyone is very curious, what these two geniuses of the chinese music are going to come up with, to surprise all. There are also much discussion and second guessing what they will be performing on the stage.
Jay commented, "This will be a secret, I cannot reveal too much. But I can promise a big surprise for all who will be at the concert."
Although both are 'heaven princes' in their own right and are very busy with their promotion schedules, b
ut as they both wa
nted to give their best on the day of the concert, so david managed to set aside time, after his promotion scheduling to meet and practise with Jay. The song they were practicing was David's "Black Tangerine", which would be one of the songs the duo will be performing
on the day.
Jay said, "Because this song is of quite high difficulty, and can have many variations, so we decided on this song."
With Jay on the piano, and the band and a 24-person orchestra, providing the accompaniment, the resultant effect would be just overwhelmingly good. The music created by the two talented artistes is very highly graded by all who were present.
Both were very confident with their first ever collaboration, and were sure that they will be bringing great surprises to all.
David stated," The first time I met him, he had bought me a CD that he had brought himself. Although the price tag was still attched to the CD, but I already can feel that he is a genuine lover of music, and a real musician. So I hoped that this collaboration will be a real exchange of music, and not merely a promotional gimmick."
Jay also said,"I hope this will be a good demonstration for all and that we can influence the future of music making."
