well, i love our country very much besides it's corruption, criminal, etc. Indonesia has many lovely, nice scenery place to go. If there is a long vacation or just few days, which place that you would love to go.:-)
If me, I like to go to Bandung and Lembang. From Jakarta, it's quite near, 3 hours by car ( if there is not jam) I like to feel it's nice-not-very-hot weather. It is one of the biggest textile industry, so you can find that the clothes, pants are quite cheap there. There also very famous Kartika Sari bakery, which you can buy delicious brownies, wew. I love it. You also can go to Tangkuban Perahu , a famous legend in Indonesia. I thought the lava was active last time. Hope not. You can ride horse, buy some hand-made gift from the local people there ( careful with the prices). So, how about you guys?:D

I suggest you to post the picture since maybe almost 95% of the community here dont even know Indonesia. and now you are talking about bandung? lembang? will they understand?
so better provide the link, picture or anything to get their interest (such like you are promoting your country as you said you love it)
and maybe someday, some of them, would visit here because you have promoted it well.. who know?
Ehh..actually Indonesia is not the place i will recommend for vacation if someone asked me about the place to go for holiday.
Well, except for BALI
what else?
Even most people don't know that Bali is part of Indonesia, how sad is that?
I went to Bali once..and that when i was about 7 years old, so yeah, pity me.
I think it has changed a lot. When i went there, Bali doesn't have Hard ROck Hotel and Cafe. There're no many night club.
Even though now it's still a beautiful place to visit, but i assumed it's less beautiful than before..
Besides Bali, another pretty famous holiday spot is Lombok. But i've never been there, so i don't have idea.
Heard that it has a very beautiful sea..scuba diving or snorkling is the best thing to do there.

if you are into cultural things like old hindu or buddish statue... i recommend you to go to Yogyakarta. It is a special city because it is still ruled by so-called-'king'. they're equal to state governors. i like yogyakarta because it is so cheap. the locals are friendly and the scenery is beautiful. found peace there....
for bandung. oh i just love bandung! if i ever had to move to another city in indonesia (im from jakarta btw), i'd move to bandung. many of my friends go to universities there. bandung is known for friendly locals, many well-known universities (so theres a lot of youngsters there), cheap and fashionable clothes, yummy foods, nice weather. oh, and by the way... Bandung has a 'nickname': Paris Van Java. Paris in Java =)
if you are familiar with Western Java (Bandung and its surrounding), maybe you've ever heard of Garut? Been there. Beautiful thing.
Been to Lake Toba in North Sumatera also. I spent a night or two in the little island at the middle of the lake. UNBELIEVEABLY CHEAP and so peaceful. met tourists from overseas there. wondered how did they know about lake toba. even indonesians dont go to lake toba for vacation.
same with aina... i dont really recommend you to go for vacation in indonesia (besides bali). because our tourism isnt really well developed. but i can assure that you will be overwhelmed by indonesians' friendliness and hospitality. we always smile and say 'please' and 'thank you'
another cities in indonesia (that ive never been to) are also very good, i heard. one of my friend is from irian and she told me irian is sooooo beautiful because the sea is so clean and not polluted...

yingyi : do you know that the airplane ticket to irian is kinda expensive for local tourism like us? we even can go aboard with that prize. i ever heard about it. but i dont know exactly how much does it costs.
yogyakarta and bandung is my options if i have to move from jakarta (for living).
i dont know wether it's good or not, i just choose it for my option randomly
and i've been to lake Toba when i were in 2nd year high school.
well since i went there with my sister and my brother, it's not really fun. but it might be different if we visit it with friends or lover. (you know, for adults it's kinda not fun to be in a vacation with family, i prefer i had it with friends)
*ineverbeentobali* such a shame. but im planning to visit it this year. maybe in december. :P

I choose BALI for sure...you can get a beautiful scenery, nice food, place for shopping those surfers stuffs and also hv many nite clubs eg. kama sutra, musro, too many to mention...u can also go to uluwatu which is very nice. i just saw my cousins pict. when she went there as part of her subject in tourism and leisure.
i wish can go bali this year for holiday...
other place must be Bandung and Jogja, coz lots of people say that places are nice but never been there before so wanna try to explore everything there

for a huge shopping spree try going to Jakarta...
malls, entertainment places (kids to adults), hotels, restaurants (japanese, indo, chinese cuisines and many more) and many more other things are there. But just be ready for a huge dead-lock traffic jam...trust me, it's wise to put a TV in your car when travelling in Jakarta...
that's all i can say

it's kinda weird for me that someone ever recommend jakarta for travelling. well, maybe it's just me being jakarta's citizen, so i cant see anything special in jakarta. except, yes that traffic jam, traditional to international restaurant, and dufan ( i want to try their new games, call tornado)
bandung is actually just so so. for holiday, it might be okay, but not for living (at least for me). everybody keep saying that bandung is great for shopping. but for so many times being there, i cant see it. :D is it my sense of fashion that bad?
over all, im still okay for living in jakarta. :D im still loving it.
bali is still the most famous one in indonesia. it's like a heaven. im dreaming i can have a marriage there. like dewi sandra and gleen. it's looked so romantic. (except that tragedy)

I'll chose Bali for vacation place in Indonesia and if you are not on a limited budget, do stay in Bvlgari hotel (http://www.bulgarihotels.com/)...that place is like heaven on earth :)
If you are into shopping, then come to Jakarta. Lots of malls here but the shops there are mostly similar to what you can find in other countries too. Another place you should visit is Mangga Dua...here's where they sell pirated DVDs with superb quality, only about US$0.50 eachh!! At nite, you can go to Kemang area in South Jakarta, which is famous for the cafes...or if you like clubbing you can go to X2 in Plaza Senayan. That's currently the biggest club in Jakarta (kinda like MOS in Spore) the club is divided into different sections, there's even a section for VIP/Private.

me too t_ _ _ _t I haven't been to Bali.. Everytime we have cultural study, and we're learning Bali (not indonesia.. they probably don't even know bali is in indonesia), they ask all the indonesians in the class, and everyone has went, even the "bule", but not me..
cherrie- OMG, I've been to the site of the Bvlgari hotel, it looks so cool!! I have to go there once, yeah, it is haven.
but I think Indonesian malls is not really the same as every where else. It has big department stores, and clothing stores like (MNG or ZARA etc.) but they sell it way cheaper. Back in Australia and you go in MNG store, I can buy NOTHING. Everything is around or more than $100 (around 700 000)
I hate mangga dua. I fainted, gosh, how many times in there. It's so crowded, hot, and the smell (especially the section where they sell leather bags - should i say, fake branded bags xDD)
But it's always good for the pirated CDs.
For people who think going vacation, should always go to the "city". Don't go to Jakarta's "city/ kota". I don't think you'd like it if you're a foreigner.
It's really scary too, xDD when you walk from shops to shops near the streets, you'd see poor people with no hands, no legs, big toe, wtv. I think it's scary, I never walk past them.

-Vit- : They sell it cheaper because it's so already old-fashioned. They might sell it first in west, then for few next month, they ship it to indonesia. that's might be the reason for the cheaper price
so there's also another indonesian who never been to bali? im not lonely then. ahaha.. :D
Jakarta... well, it's actually the most active city among anothers in Indonesia. It's a interesting city to spend all you day and wont be bored. But for vacation? it's not really a vacation for me if it's a big city. i prefer suburb for vacation. the place i can get relax.
anyone ever been to PulaU Umang? i heard that it's fantastic. but never experienced it myself

:O really?? I didn't know that. But it won't be that old-fashioned. So they sell old stock that wasn't able to sell from overseas back to indonesia?
Wow.. @_ _ _ _@
I would still buy it though. It's still cheaper and it's the same brand.
(but so many people buy it, and when you go out, everyone wears the same thing -- well, I see many people wearing the same thing).

i guess so. or it might be the production takes place in indonesia. you know that the price is cheaper in indonesia (for the "bahan baku' and the salary for the people).
anyone ever heard of Pulau Umang. It's one of the beautiful island in Kepulauan Seribu. I plan to have a holiday there this year. i heard that it's so mature. im sick of 'city' btw.
