Not sure if I could chip in some ideas.
If the size is roughly about 8-12 people, we can have a simple dinner.
Cuisine Choices:
- SouthEast Asian [Thai, Viet, South China, Filipino, Indon]
- East Asia [China, Korean, Japanese]
- Middle East [Indian, Middle East]
- Europe, US [Western, Mediterranean, French, Italian, American]
- Fusion
- Buffet
- Steamboat
Or
- Vegan [Vegetarian Cuisine]
But if the size is more than 15, we might wanna consider organising a BBQ?
With the fact that you mentioned "large group of people" & "interaction", a BBQ would have more interaction compared to a simple dinner. That's if the size is more than 15...

I'm really not sure about the number, HOPEFULLY we can have more than 15 people.
If we have a barbeque, I was thinking of the location, I live in the East so I really only know the parks around here, really totally clueless about the other parts of Singapore already ><
Or should we have steamboat? Yaknow at Marina Bay?
But I'm really afraid of the weather, as you know, Singapore's weather is really unpredictable :wink2:

It's true that Singapore weather is very freaky =S No doubt about that.
We could seek help from any of the members here, if they happen to live in condominium, whether are there any BBQ pits. If there are, they could check if it's available for booking.
Then, we can don't be worry about weather at all haha! Well... That's a wishful thinking =S
Marina Bay is cheap & full of variety. Another place filled with Steamboat is Bugis area. Third location is actually Boat Quay, Clark Quay area. It has numerous Steamboat restaurants with different cuisines and styles. Though Clark Quay & Boat quay would be much more EX, due to the fact that it's Town area... And our more matured members could hit elsewhere after bidding good-byes.

I can help a bit!!! Since this is what i do in my day job anyway.. Organising events.. aHWhahaha..
First, you need to determine how many people will be going.. What was the hit-rate like in previous outings?
I presume since there will be some still studying, you guys need to go for something with budget <$20.
Hanabi: BBQ might be hard to organise for the 15th June unless you guys go to one of the people's place to do that. It's cos its hols now, and most, if not all the BBQ pits would have been booked up long time ago. Unless its at some really ulu place where its inaccessible anyway.
A good alternative to incorporate everything, (interaction + lots of food) is to have a potluck / picnic.
Picnic places are not hard to find. You can go over to Fort Canning, which is the most convenient. It's got lots of empty green spaces. Other good spots are Pasir Ris park, Sentosa, Bishan Park, Macritchie reservoir. I heard Botanic Garden is good too but I haven't personally been there. Oh wait. I have but it was a go in, makan & exit. LOL.
What can happen is that you guys organise a 'menu' of what to bring. It is best if those who stay near each other can bring 'heavy' food, i.e. cooked food like bee hoon or fried rice or chicken wings etc.. Then roughly about 4 of you can catch a cab to the venue so it'll be cheaper. (Of course, I'm assuming here that nobody drives) The rest can split between like drinks, tidbits, small snacks like satay etc etc
Some can even make some salad! Of course salad can be made on the spot so it will still be fresh etc etc...

I think a barbeque would be better. More people can fit in. But of course we cannot predict the weather.
However if we want those kind of big indoor places then i think our choices are really limited. I think what we can do is to rent a place where we can chill out then order food from somewhere where everyone pays for their own food. Well this is just an idea..
Or like last year, we can rent a chalet or something. But im not too sure about the budget. Yea. :-)
HaNaBi
05-31-2007, 08:57 AM
sigh... don't talk about the Chalet thing... I was so unlucky to be called back for duty by my Warren Officer... [Have to head back to check my duty schedule again... Keeping my fingers cross]
Unless we have some members here who have friends working as a civil servant, then we'll be able to rent Government BBQ Pit or Chalet at Special rates...
I'm up for anything haha!!! Be it Buffet, Steamboat, BBQ or Picnic, or even KTV *lalala~~~~*
Actually... Come to think of it, we can actually buy those "Ready to Use" BBQ Pits, which are available in Supermarkets. It's disposable after one-time usage. We can take that into consideration... With that, we can have a BBQ anywhere haha!!!

I'm actually very afraid to organize outings that might be disrupted with the weather, but an outdoor bbq/steamboat seems to be easier.
I've opened a poll, so hopefully I can get more suggestions :wink2:
Laruku; Potluck sounds great, but I believe many will be coming from work or school? So it's gonna be quite difficult
Aigoooooo I've feeling super disorganized. Sorry!
HaNaBi
05-31-2007, 09:53 AM
hey! It's common to feel kinda "lost" when you're new to something. But don't worry too much, cause there's lots of members here who have relevant experience to help you with this outing haha!!!
I voted for BBQ/Picnic Style...

Guys,
one advice here..
if we're thinking abt picnic.. u will need to do a day thingy
night picnic seems abit silly.. :P
as for BBQ..
i dun mind that... though there's weather we need to take into consideration
one suggestion where you don't have to worry abt all this
and that you don't have to prepare is MARINA BAY :wink2:
that is if everyone is up for steamboat and BBQ :)
HaNaBi
05-31-2007, 05:13 PM
Steamboat + BBQ...
haha! I almost forgot that Marina Bay have those... not a bad fusion haha!!! One stone kills two birds
icetears-
06-01-2007, 04:49 AM
Yeah I personally would like Marina Bay. But the weather would have to be taken into account for. Unless we go to indoor places like Seoul Garden?
But it's not the best choice. The food's not all that great. So, any takers? :wink2:
petricia
06-01-2007, 05:37 AM
I would opt for the bbq and buffet since I don't eat meat, fish, seafood.
Just thought that maybe it is a good time to meet up with the SG people.. It's been 2 years since I last since any one from here.

Folks!!!!
How's everyone??
I missed the last BBQ cum chalet last Dec....
Glad that you guys are planning something in June...
I prefer BBQ where everyone can move around and talk..
Sitting down at tables not very ideal for big group..
Perhaps, we can see the number of paxs then decide the place...
Miss the great time!
Wenmei...thanks for organising!

hey... arr i really want to turn up for this gathering because i really think the chalet last year was fun! haha... but i got something on on 15 june! hmm but i also think bbq might be a better choice because its easier to interact... if you all are going for steamboat and the number is quite big, then i think you all need to sit in separate tables and this will minimise interactions :-)

Christine; Gee I'm really at a loss now. A BBQ's gonna be really difficult cos of the venue. How late can everyone stay? Do we go to a park?
It's like rather late to book a chalet, & I myself can't stayover. So I can only book a bbq pit. But I'm afriad if we do it in ECP, those living in the other areas can't stay for long.
& then there's the weather too. Aww man.
*pops off to google*
Sorry people, I know I'm really lousy
yuklum; Aww so sad you can't join us. Then again, maybe if it turns out to be a failure.... :wink2:
Petricia; OMG you're scaring me. Are you a vegetarian? :sealed:

Petricia; OMG you're scaring me. Are you a vegetarian? :sealed:
haha... why??? is it that scary? Anyway, I am not a total vegetarian.. Just that I don't dare to take meat, fish and seafood... *hmmm* wait.. i think that makes me a vegetarian.

hey guys!
Firstly, must thank wenmei for intiating this gathering. And while browsing the forum, i saw some unfamiliar nicks. I think my memories are fading. Less and less conversation with you guys make me so distant from you. I cant confirm if i can come for the gathering, cause i've other things in e afternoon, and i dont know when it will end.
I dont mind BBQ. But, are we able to get the fixed number of people attending? Then, after confirming who are going, then we will need to find some "part time cooker" to do little things like fried bee hoon?
Like what Christine said, i missed last year's BBQ. And last last year's bbq. we had alot of fun. Hope this time round, more and more people are able to join the gathering
Wendy

I guess many ppl are for bbq.. so that we can have more interaction..
I think some "problems" are already pointed out..
- weather (we can just pray for a good and windy day/night... hahaha)
- booking of pits / chalet (its a bit late right? since the gathering falls on next next sat.. i guess its a bit of a rush)
- food (we need planning for the food.. although we can always "refer" to our previous food list.. hehehe)
- turnout (i'm sorry.. but i still can't get over what happened last time... >.< )
Therefore.. I choose steamboat instead.. don't worry abt the weather there.. cos IF we choose to go to marina bay.. there are indoors and outdoors.. we can see how is the weather that day.. and if someone can predict for us.. that will be good.. ^^ And.. since this is suppose (or what I thought to be) sort of a farewell dinner for Jordan.. I guess we can do with a simple dinner...
Just my 2 cents worth.... ^^

06-01-2007, 04:35 PM
totally agree with wendy about the turn out thingy. some people plainly fly us aeroplane on that day, when the food were already just sufficient for everyone. Hope this time round, no one will fly us any aeroplane. If you tell us like one day earlier, it still ok. But, if on that day itself..i dont think its a good reflection on that member lo.

Okay umm, I know I sound really indecisive, but I got some advice, & because I reckon the movement of people, the timing that you all are gonna arrive, & the time you stay might vary.
So if we do away with the bbq, and input a place like Marche, or a buffet(though this isn't so preferable because some can't stay long & the different arrival times), is it alright?
OPINIONS :please:

Hi there..
sorry for not dropping by so long.. >.<"
well.. since most are opting for BBQ or buffet..
it is really too late to book a chalet for BBQ
and i'm sure alot of u have alot of chalet and BBQ thingy that you would be very bored of it liao..
so i guess that leaves us to either buffet
hmmm.. i would like to know how is everyone's budget like??
if you wanna look for buffet
as for Marche... i believe the things are quite ex.. unless you're thinking of going "dutch"
i'm not sure if everyone is for Marche^^
Hi everyone!
I'd personally opt for BBQ/Steamboat at Marina Bay.
We'll have no problems with people "flying aeroplane" since we pay by head.
Haven't seen you guys in a while.
I'll try my best to come... not sure if I can finish work in time to make it.
Wendy
06-03-2007, 08:03 AM
Actually I would prefer the ala-carte option.. cos i don't eat much... and i seldom eat buffets... and I often pay more than what I eat... but if the majority prefer buffet.. i am also fine with it..

HEYLO!
i'm here. :-)
well, we still haven decide on where to go?
i have 2 choices here, steamboat at marina bay which quite alot of you know.
another is at marches - suntec or heerens
as all are by heads, so each pay for their own. there would not be any confusion.
steamboat will be very hot & everyone of us will be perspiring. however, marches will be cooler & we can sit in comfort.
either both is a good choice. & yes, time is running out! :bounce:

I thought heerens marche is closed. It's now village or something :?

Wenmei...thanks for informing to read the updates! :wink2:
I guess steamboat in aircon places will be much comfy...
Think Yaki Yuki is not bad!
I haven't try it personally...:shy: *very mountain turtle*
Village also not bad at Heeren...
But since we are having dinner on Friday, it might be too crowded...they dun allow reservations also...
Somemore, if we have ard 10 paxs, it will be tough to get seats...
icetears-
06-04-2007, 04:52 PM
Hehs to be honest, I haven't visited Yuki Yaki myself, but I got this place from visiting forums & the reviews have been rather.
Plus I'm DYING to try that icecream though :bleh:
yUkLuM^
06-04-2007, 06:40 PM
i think Village is the same as Marche... its just a different name... i tried yuki yaki before... its not bad on the first few visits... there are sushi, terpanyaki and steamboat thingy... but if go there too many times then its not very nice already... haha... yuki yaki is ard 20+... and one table is for around 6 people? so i think will need to separate tables also... :D

HaNaBi
06-08-2007, 06:29 PM
I can only reach there around 8pm. Due to the fact that by the time I reach home from camp it would roughly be about 6pm. So, with bathing, "dolling" myself up and travelling to marina square. yeah...roughly would be 8pm.
But I'll be there haha!!
icetears-
06-09-2007, 05:05 AM
^ HaNaBi; Oh dear but are you sure? You'll be missing one full hour of the buffet? So that leaves you with either one our or one&ahalf hours left
