As per the title. If you have been here for some time, you will notice this forum has its activity level flucuating from time to time. And at this period of time, our dearest Jay hasn't been in the headlines a lot, nor has he been releasing his album as well, so you will notice the forum has been pretty "dead" of late.

So in order to bring more members/life back into this forum, we have opened up the Jay Multimedia forum (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14) to all, and at the same time, the General Downloads & Links forum (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=20) will also be opened to Registered Members+ and up.

This will mean you don't have to buy passwords to gain access to the 2 download forums for now, which also brings me to the point of disabling the points system.

As from now, the points system will be disabled as a result of the above mentioned. So for now, the points will be removed from your profile and it will cease to accumulate as well.

And before you want to scream, "where did my points go to?!?!" at me, stop! You can be rest assured that your points will be hidden in a safe place, so don't worry. As for when this system will resume, we won't know, it could be a temporay or permanent thing, it depends.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...where did my points go!!!lol jk jk :tomato: Hmm..well cats I really thought the virtual points system was a truly diao feature of this site along with the JCNet plaza, bank interest, bets, lottery,& virtual store.I'm also saddened that it was removed.

However,if you guys feel that it's not necessary at this point in time. Then I'll also support that decision, even if means no more points for now.:sadangel:

Quotes from users & how they feel about the features in JCNet.

What is the interest rate in the bank points? I wan to know about the interest rate. Will the interest rate go up and go down? Just want to know... Posted:9-19-2006 Last Activity:12-16-2006

So what else can you get from your vpoints?Besides from the access to the two media boards?

Oh no wonder I saw some veteran around here with hundreds and thousands of points roaming around here. I thought they were saving up for something big for a while...

A few questions about points:

1. If I deposit some points in the bank, will I gain some points at the next interest?

2. So what exactly is the lottery?

3. Will the person know who stole their points?

How about we gamble or wage on some event? Like horse-racing, but some other sport or event. Maybe save up til 2008, and bet on olympic events.

can anyone explain to me about the Current points total and Current bank points found under the Jay-Chou.net Store section. If possible, please explain everything, like how i get them and stuff. Thanks alot.

I was excited to find out about the interest in bank points that you can earn, the lottery, the bets, & buying passwords.

But I was disappointed when I found out the hard way that most of those functions were disabled & there's not many fun things we can do with points anymore.

the system is jammed with loopholes and signing in errors.

I was scanning through some of the threads & came to some realizations.I found that the points system really peaked the interests of newbies & users alike.

There was a couple of quotes above where I put the date for when the post was made & when they stopped coming back.During that period, the whole points system was active. However, the plaza wasn't & I strongly feel that many users were waiting for the JCNet plaza to be restored.

I also feel that if you want more activity, you have to add to the forum, not take away.Because I look at popular sites like myspace & youtube. And I wondered why users kept coming back. Then I realized that they have much more features & better technology.

That's why I felt that if JCNet had better features such as a radio, embeddable players,JCNet plaza with virtual points system accompanied by a virtual store,& maybe even an arcade. Then maybe that would keep users coming back. Some of the reasons why I keep coming back is listed below.

1.To check the replies to threads that I subscribed to.
2.To chat with the friendly JCNet users.
3.To check how many points I have.
4.To check announcements.
5.To make threads & posts.
6.To see if the JCNet plaza is working.
7.To see if anything new has been added.

One problem I noticed is that many of the download links are dead & dates all the way back to 2005.I also noticed that most of the activity & contest posts are from 2005 & 2006.I think if all these dead links were cleaned out & new activity & contest posts were up,then it would definitely promote more activity.

Because opening up the download section, which has mostly dead links is a desperate attempt to get more activity in my opinion. However,I rather have newbies spam to get points & correct them to become better users. Then to have newbies explore the mediocre activity & features & not come back.

I know many users are going to disagree with me on those statements. But that's just the way I feel when I put myself back into a fresh newbie's shoes.I feel that we should give people great reasons why they should keep coming back to JCNet.

Something to look forward to,like winning the lottery, making bets, checking their bank interests, trying get more points, entering a contest to win more points, great things to do with the points etc.

Somehow I feel that the lively spirit of JCNet has been down lately.Maybe we need another JCNet theme week which shows how proud we are to be members.I don't know, all I know is that I also love this site & would also like to see the JCNet spirit & activity revived again.

Maybe we do lack a little manpower, but the newbies that sign up everyday is our additional manpower. But why should they support or stay with us?Because I somehow feel that it was a little unfair for taking away the points system that many users were so attached to without making a poll first or something of that nature.Just some thoughts that I wanted to share & it's so early in the morning,so please don't crucify me.:cry:

The JCNet vplaza points have been around since September last year. In the beginning, all the fun functions were available. But it's hard to ensure that it all remains bug-less or safe to use. Personally, I've never used the vplaza points for anything other than buying the PW to the media DLs, which I rarely DL from nowadays. Oh yes. There was the betting on the World Cup. Which I barely entered.

Having been here for a while, I notice that the activity of this site fluctuates with the activities of Jay. If he has a new album, activity goes up. New movie, up. Members having exams, down down down. It happens to be that period of time right now.

While games are usually great fun & great for activity level, it is horrendously difficult & time consuming to organise. It's great but we only have the energy to do one major games every year, i.e. the Summer or Winter games.

Furthermore, JCNet has been through a lot of changes. 6 months ago, it doesn't look like this. Quite a lot has changed.

I'm reminiscing but just wanted you to know that having vplaza points will not bring the forum back to life. The past 6 months when we had it, it barely made any difference.

Those threads are there in an archive so we know what videos of Jay are available from the past. There was never an attempt to keep them updated or working, that's why they are in an archive. If someone wants to see something, they can easily search those videos on youtube or ask for an upload.

Opening up the Jay Downloads forum was not a desparate attempt at getting activity. It was because we no longer wanted to sustain the vbPlaza. And because anything can be found on youtube anways. People come to JCNet to socialize, not to download anymore.

Concerning vbplaza, sure it can be fun to have the lottery, betting, donating, gaining more points, etc..but what are you going to do with those points? We had the idea of the itemshop, but putting that together is hellishly time consuming. Coming up with items for people to buy, making little icons for them, etc. This isn't a shop that can have only 20-30 items, we're talking 100s to make it even worthwhile, otherwise everyone will have the same items and it will get boring fast.

In THEORY, having more features and fun stuff sounds like a good idea, but with that comes research, organization, implementation, maintenance. And who here really has time for all that?

As reene said, activity at JCNet correlates with Jay's real life activities. And right now, he just ain't doing much. And kids are in school, adults have work, etc.

Especially the mods/admins who will be working on these "projects" ...do you guys really think we want to come here to work? We wanna come here to relax and chat like everyone else.

For now we will continue to have small forum activities, but anything large scale will most likely NOT happen unless we get people to step up and be committed to do them.

And in case you take this as a bashing or something, it's not, I'm just responding to your points. Feel free to take apart my arguments.

No hard feelings or offense on my side karen.Actually I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my opinions because it shows your compassion. If you're referring back to the squabbles in the learning a language poll.

Then I have to say that we've settled our differences & there were misunderstandings.I learned not jump to conclusions & feel patronized when people are just doing their part & it's just the way that they naturally talk.

Since I'm still considered a new user,I know you're not going to give me the permission or authority to help set up a virtual store here, which is totally understandable.

However, you really created such a unique site like no other with features like the rep points, post counts, star levels, the little messages under them, the social groups & normal groups plus the virtual points system.

I was implying that some users feel that they worked hard for those points & taking them away felt more like a violation, than an improvement.

In conclusion,if it makes it easier on the mod/admin.Then I'll still support that decision, but I was just trying to convey some of the thoughts of users who may feel too intimidated to voice out how they feel towards this drastic change.

O.o yup I noticed that the points are gone now!!! I liked my points so much but I didn't do much with them anyway but it was cool to have them around...thanks God they're save Cats!! watch out cuz if you lose them I'll kill you!! hahahaha lol.

I like that idea of having fun stuff to do here and that way we can bring more more people but it's true what Karen said...the mods/adims have to work a lot for it and that's not good cuz they have life too and we do as well but it's going to be fun if we try...Jay hasn't been busy these days and it's so sad cuz we dodn't have so much stuff to talk about but we're here anyway and it worths the shut to have fun and do something different...but you know what j-c.net is a fun place anyway!!!

BTW jayx8318x I didn't know your name was Karen hihihihi...nice to meet you!!

Yeah well the points don't really serve a purpose, it's just pure fun watching your point count go up one by one.

But anyway, like you guys said we do have our annual Summer & Winter games. Maybe we could just take the points & use them during these major events. Just take it as a private stash that can only be used in such site-wide events.

Like you give points out as prizes like we used to, or people can vote for contests with points, so the users kinda contribute to the prixze-giving of the games.

Aye I'm not sure, just a suggestion :wink2:

I understand how you feel about taking away your form of improvement.

I like you was just like that, believe me I know.

However as time passes, and you become not so much a "new member"
that kind of improvement siezes to exist, as you just enjoy the company with all your newly found friends all over the world.
Like karen stated, we're all in here to relax, enjoy ourselves, voice our opinions.

So all in all, just relax in here.
I know you enjoy participating in all the discussions :wink2:
You'll find other ways and means of improving yourself.

Again, talking about my own experiences, I used to be in awe of all the people who could express their opinions with posts that were of such quality.
After awhile, nothing like post counts, star levels or points detered me from attaining my goal of posting with quality and not quantity.

Your opinion is much appreciated though. You do offer constructive knowledge.
