I thought I would start this thread.
I have been studying French for 8 years and I am pretty much fluent. Little lessons to teach things all beginners should know
French is a romance language. Other Romance languages include Spanish, Latin, English, and Italian. What that means is pretty much you will run into words or vocabulary that sound similar.
French is quite simple as far as vocabulary is concerned. However the grammar is rather complicated because there are some verb tenses that aren't used as often in English as they are in french
So for the first thing I think would be great to teach is write out some vocabulary, pronouns, and the conjucation of the first verb!
If anyone wants to post stuff feel free. I will just pop in and out and write out some grammar instructions and write out some vocabulary, especially if I am about to get a test or teach it I will just post it up here to share as well.

this looks like an advanced class to me.
:? like this, I don't know how to pronounce or read any French words in here. If there is anyway for those who have zero knowledge like me to be able to read it. Is there anything like Pin Yin in Chinese or Romanji in Japanese ?
And what is the writing system, how do they pronounce ABC in French ? I heard that it's different from what English speaks, right ? Both vowel and consonant.

Lol,hey harms,I think lovely pam does make some clear points above.Do you think there is a way for you to add romanizations to the French translations?
For instance,with (Hello = Bonjour)
Bon is pronounced like bond without the d.
Then with jour,it's pronounced like leisure without the lei.
Could you also translate these words:
movie
book
music
food
sex (lol)
love
hate
sky
ocean
dream
all the colors would also be helpful too ^^
Maybe an English comparison like that could be done with the basic learners that's not familiar with how the French language sounds. But great job so far sweetie & thanks Azn_Sweetie & harms for translating my phrases!!!^^

Azn_Sweetie and Phoenix Thank you for your help! Please do pop in here!
Pam
Yeah sure. Ill try to write out the alphabet with pronounciations. Its a bit hard, most of it is a lot like English.
Its hard to "romanize" French. But for any vocabulary I add from now on I will try to. Here is a REALLY great article I am adding to the front page on how to pronounce french words Refer here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_language#Writing_system)

Hey harms, thanks for starting this thread. I've always been curious but wary of French. It's such a fluid and beautiful language, but everytime I try mimic a native speaker I can't seem to get the pronunciation right :-/
In the above post, you gave the link to wiki for pronunciation help & edited the 1st post with it... I wonder if I can make a suggestion?
You listed the pronunciation link in the 1st post under: Resources > French Writing Systems.
Thats a little confusing (well, that's how I found it so perhaps I'm the only one confused by this?).
Perhaps you can re-title the link as put it under a section called 'pronunciation'.
I like how you've bolded subject titles for clarity. To expand on your layout system, perhaps you can have colour-coded general topics & use the 1st post as a contents page/lesson guide?
Your original material: greetings & counting could be [Vocab] Lesson 1
Your original material: pronouns & verbs could be [Grammar] Lesson 2
The 4th post here (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?p=755351&postcount=4): basic phrases could be [Phrases] Lesson 3
If this suggestion is acceptable, then other members could use the same format when they post their contribution so that the thread becomes easily accessible & effective to learn from. Thus, following this system, I could ask phoenix_fire to edit her post with a header like this:
[Vocab] Lesson 4 - Colours (+various new words)
^ each lesson would preferably be theme specific and not just a randomly generated vocab list
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Visual example of suggestion for 1st post
Introductions & aim of thread: Bonjour, welcome to the French thread...etc

^ ColaPoP, that does make more sense, and it would be easier to find certain words later. I'll edit my post like you said

S'il y a une inversion quand on pose une question, par exemple "parlez-vous", il devrait avoir le trait d'union, non?
When there is an inversion in a question, such as "Parlez-vous", shouldn't there be a hyphen?
