All right, now we have it, the trial language forum, yup, you are reading things right, it's a trial, and then we will gauge the response after say, a month or so and we will see if it is still good enough to remain here.
As for the rules for the forum, if there is anything else, i will include it in later on if it deem fit. But anyway, here they are:
1) Foreign languages must be accompanied with translation
This is pretty obvious, who's gonna learn if there is no translation or explanation to a sentence? However, this will apply to lesson and discussion threads. If you want to chat/practise in a foreign language, please feel free to start a chat/practise thread, but please, no proclamation of love in here.
2) Please make your question as specific as possible.
Instead of asking "how much?", ask "how much does the coffe cost?" In other words, try asking in full sentences, because i hope to see simple words to be included in the first post (i hope!).
In addition, please specify the tone you want it to be in, conversational, formal etc etc. And also, what format do you want your text to be translated in? Eg. Pinyin, Romanji, Hiragana?
3) Do not have irrelevant/off topic posts like, "I have studied Japanese for X years and now i gonna show you how good i am"
I will make sure i show you how good the admins/mods are too with the rep point deduction, post deletion and infractions.
4) If you are unsure of how to translate or explain a question, do NOT answer it.
Since everyone is learning here, we of course want to make the best out of it instead of misleading and confusing everyone. Imagine yourself showing off what you have learnt and getting embarrassed in school. Pretty bad, isn't it?
5) All forum rules (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=152) still apply here.
As always.
Amendment [19/05/2007]:
6) New threads are to be labelled like this: e.g. [Japanese Lessons], [Japanese General]
In order to make it easier to locate a certain language, labelling in this way will help when we have the default sorting by "Thread Title" on the forum page. Random language discussion can be labelled as, e.g. [Japanese Others]

For future threads (lesson threads only)
What goes in the first post?
1) Basic Information - Things like basic writing/learning systems eg, Hiragana, Hangul, Pin Yin etc etc, are to be included. Try to include romanization, so that we know how to pronouce as well.
2) Resources
Things like:
- Online Dictionary
- Online Translator
- Places where you can find notes, exercises
- Sites for official language exams
3) Links to the various lessons taught on JCNet (So that it will look like a content page).
It should be something like what is happening in the Random Jay pictures (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24505) thread.
4) Any other things for a beginner
Examples that i can think of:
- Counting
- Telling the Time in Japanese
- Basic Greetings
- Some common simple words we come across
Finally i would appreciate if you could make the first post as informative as possible as this would provide those who are new to the language a good grasp of how the language is going to be like and can provide good reference to those already learning the language, thanks.
Amendment [19/05/2007]: If you feel you are able to give lessons on a regular basis, please feel free to start your own lesson thread, all you need to do is to have an introduction and have the links to the various lesson in the first post.

2) No one-to-one chatting in foreign languages is allowed
I have taken this rule out for the time being to experiment if a contained chat/practise thread can work here. But still, if you can, try to include translation whenever possible so that the others can read what's going on as well.
