Rujak Aceh - in Carrefour !
Mi ayam bakso, pangsit - in Bakmi Naripan Bandung. Mmm Gajah Mada in Jakarta is ok.
Kuring - generally better in Bandung, or else Sari Kuring or Ratu Kuring.
Bakwan Kapasari - in Surabaya
Martabak India - Har in Jalan Roxi (evening)

but I haven't find the ultimate one for bakso, bakmi ayam, bubur ayam, soto mie and empek empek yet, your suggestion please !.

Whoaa beach_gurl... you know so many places to eat out in INdonesia. I'm very home-oriented person and all I eat is my mom's cookings. But... here are some of my favorites:

1. Otak Otak Binatu - Jln. Kesehatan. - I could eat 20-30 at once.
2. Empek-empek Palembang = somewhere in Jln. Garuda.
3. Siomay Bandung = I think my mom's is the best, though. :bleh:
4. Gado Gado cemara = the one using cashew nut as the dressings.
5. Rujak Pengantin = doesn't have any preference.
6. Laksa Bogor
7. Nasi Uduk Jln. Panjang. Yummyyyy!!!
8. Otak2 goreng and es teller = Es Teler 77
9. Bakmi Gang Kelinci = Eventhough the noddle sucks, but the spices... yummy!!!
10. Kwe Tiao Siram Mangga Besar
11. Black Peppered beef Tai Nan
12. Soto Mie = kaki lima
13. Lemper, risoles, lumpia semarang, lumpia basah, pastel, kroket = all jajanan pasar

Whoa Summer - I know some of your list but almost forgot it !. I love Es Kelapa Muda in Otak Otak Binatu. Duh, that cream cheese bread, wait for me ya ! And where exactly is this Bakso Gepeng Mangga Besar ?

siomay - more as batagor : Riri in Bandung

Hey, beach_gurl, have you heard of bubur hostess?? I know the name is a little bit....misleading, but I heard its bubur is GREAT!! I'm not sure where to get it, I'll ask around and post it later.

Soto mie, I don't have any preferences, actually. Abang2 punya is enough for me. ^^

Uhm... about bakso gepeng, I'll ask my auntie where exactly is. The best thing about this bakso gepeng is it's very crunchy and and very smooth. If you like the "urat" part, then yuo probably won't like it.

Aina, try sate ayam in Kebun Jeruk Intercon complex. It's very very yummy. Btw... they're so very "laku", usually they can only sell the satays for 3 hours, and then it all sold out.

wow so many food. my mom was born in indonesia, in medan. i've only visited a few times, but my most favorite thing to eat there, i know it's simple, but i really liked the fresh boiled peanuts that the vendors sold on the streets at night. not too salty, but not too dry :happy:

Martabak Bangka - there's a good one in Bandung, only open in early evening - if not mistaken in Pasar Andir, in front of that big Elizabeth bag store !. They're using sweet corn, thin and crispy, yummier if you eat it fresh. In Jakarta, I always order thin and crispy - feel a bit silly because you pay the same and enceknya has to scrap off the "meaty" part anyway.

Sorry to all Indonesian/half/quarter Indonesian abroad when you read these. Well, make it a reason to go home !

My parents brought back some fish floss made by the locals in Belitung. That was good. And some kerupuk udang the size of your palm. It's thick and even after 2 weeks, did not lose its flavour. Masih rapuh lagi.

And buah salak. I LOVE BUAH SALAK!

Hi Ashley, I think you're talking about abon ikan - the best is from Palembang. I've never tasted the one from Belitung. Also good from Palembang is the assortment of kerupuk ikan. Kerupuk udang from Surabaya is also good, can buy the dried one then fried it yourself.

I also love salak, from Bali not salak Pondoh - the smaller, less "character" taste. Salak Bali is bigger, lancip shape and more sour and more watery than Pondoh !.

And people, where have you tasted the best SAMBAL ?
Well for me sambal without the accompanying food is no-go.
Ayam goreng Suharti sambal (for ayam, not the cobek version) is good. Also sambal lampung cap Jempol is the best bottled brand available.
Also sambal that accompany sea food in Yun Nyan is also good.

1. La Mien / mie tarik near Mangga Dua! You have to try this!!! Especially indomie kari ayam lovers. The mie tarik kuah in this place is much much much better than indomie kari ayam ^^ Oh.. the one who made the mie is originally from China ^^

2. Martabak keju. Erm, in Bekasi... martabak rony is famous. Maybe you guys don't know it since most of you live in Jakarta.

3. Roti bakar near my house.

4. Batagor in front of my previous school. Yummy!!!!

Where's your favorite Padang food - to me the famous one tastes similar aja : saribundo, sederhana, natrabu ?!. I heard there's a very old Padang resto (chinese owner) next to dunkin donuts hayam wuruk, and the rendang is good, anybody has tried ?. I wouldn't go there until that stupid busway finished and working, or else maceeeet man !.

Olive, I don't get it, mie tarik is similar to indomie kari ayam ?. Oh, you remind me of putu - haven't eat it for ages.

mm.. about udon i think there's this very delicious japanese resturant called 'Ajihara' located in Melawai area, South-Jakarta. i can guarantee u the taste coz it's a REAL Japanese restaurant,even the menu card doesn't use english..haha... in japan they called it 'IZAKAYA'. but if it's hard to find the loc. have u tried TAICHAN's?

my fav. Padang rest. is 'Sari Ratu'. been loving it since the 80's era haha.. :D

wah i never tried that old padang rest in hym wuruk yet.. yea.. that disturbing busway construction is really makin us jkt peeps crazy and more stressed... aaghh when will it end??!!

Lets talk about INDO snacks !. Just bought some yesterday - I'm lucky if it last thru the new year's eve :-)

My favorites are the peanuts : kacang bogor, kacang goreng tepung, fried cashewnuts, ting ting kacang (not with wijen/sesame seeds).

Others :
- small dry kue soes (puff) - hoh, dip it into sweet condensed milk and the whole package will diminished !
- crunchy macaroni sweet and spicy
- kerupuk palembang/crunchy fish crackers - either fried or baked ones - very very good !!!
- keripik kentang, the sweeter one.

I like to buy them all from ANEKA snacks, you've seen it in most mall.
If I have to buy "packaged", usually stick with biscuits from Selamat or Ritz - has anybody taste the "pizza" one ? My fave.

I'd want to try the bubur, bakso, padang, rujak and mie !. Oh, wanna add : for bakpau I think the best one is still Teck Kee Tanglin Pau, I use to buy it when I visited Kelapa Gading.

From my personal opinion, Lumpia Jakarta isn't very special in taste. I don't know, maybe it's just me. But my friend brought me there once, ... he said the lumpia is very good. BUt when I taste it... it's okay,... but not very special.

YAY seafood....my fave seafood place is at kelapa gading, blk makro, near that new hospital, and the proce is cheap...and seafood kartini, you know, deket kali gunung sahari, and then seafood Kalimati (near pademangan) or at gunung sahari, there are bunches of seafood places there.

Well well..summerjie..if you want to try "ketoprak" atma..you should visit me then in my campus..hohoho..and i found another good place to eat. At Plaza Semanggi near my campus..not near actually "sebelahnya" hoho..they have lots of new fast food and restaurant..and some of them are worthed to eat..although maybe you have to spend like more less 5oK at least..many new restaurants such as : Cavana, Avenue, Wing Dome and lots of japanese restaurants..yippie..:bleh:

And anyone of you know this food "Ayam malaya" located in Menteng at Jl. dr Suwiryo i think..it is really really delicious..:bleh:

yukiko..yup, seafood kalimati is at pademangan..near pademangan actually.
kalimati itself refer to the name of the stream across the street..

if you know mangga 2 square, kalimati is across it.

it's super delicious..but you gotta choose one of lots seafood tend there.

ah i see aina. i was thinking that the kalimati is only in cengkareng because i ever heard my bf said he ate seafood kalimati at cengkareng (i dont mean to be to "always listen to bf's word's GF) hahaha. :D

the only malaysian food i know is nasi lemak :P
i dont know actually what the difference is since i cant compare nasi lemak with thousands of indonesian food...~ but MAYBE indonesia has a greater variety of food. we have about 30 provinces, thousands of islands and cuisine for every place is different. some like it spicy, some like it sweet. but basically indonesians love spicy and sweet and peanut sauce. indonesian food is very exotic. you can get many flavor in a food... think of siomay... kecap manis (sweet), lime (sour), pare (bitter), peanut sauce (salty), sambel (spicy) (ditambah debu2 lain2nya.. ga usah diterjemahin ye :P)

about Indonesian and Malaysian food. off course there's a difference. still some of them is kinda similar.
like nasi lemak, we have nasi uduk. though people in kalimantan and sumatra still call it nasi lemak. but people in java call it nasi uduk. it taste similar. cooking rice with coconut milk. it's so tasty but fat.
we have kari/kare. it's the same.

i think that's we might be have a similar food with malaysia. but the taste is different. because each of us, have special seasoning that might be only found in indonesia or only in malaysia.

i dont know that much since i never have cuisine experience in malaysia. i have taste kare from malaysian restaurant here. i think it's same with indonesian kari. so i can't judge it easily.

Even though I can't eat spicy food, I love Rendang too. Indonesian foods are well-known for its spicy, aren't they?

Blacksweater Soto is good!! I love soto ambengan the most :tongue: The soup, the meat, the lime mix with plain white rice. Definitely the best soupy-grain food you'll ever taste :whistle:

Mie aceh is just a fried noodle. but it's from aceh. aceh man cook it, most of the spices also come from aceh. just like soto, we have soto medan, soto ambengan, soto kudus, soto betawi, etc. ^^

sate kelinci (rabit satay) taste just like sate kambing (goat satay) it's not that bad it think, and about ular (snake) i never try sop ular but i ever try ular. the taste just like chicken i think just a little bit alot (don't know this word in english)

Oh My God..Bakmi Gajah Mada is like the bestest restaurant ever !!

Not only for the noodle, but also for the rest of food they serve

nasi goreng, nasi cap cay, pangsit...

when i was in SG for a month, i missed Bakmi GM so much...and when i got back home, i went straight to Bakmi GM for lunch... hahaha

anybody got recipe to make pangsit goreng just like in Bakmi GM..
geezz, until now, there's no one who can make the same pangsit goreng, even for the sauce..
