but i saw on the newpaper sunday (world jounal) that he and avril met in singapore or something and had a lively conversation (or at least a chat and a photograph)

how the heck? did they have translators?

is it me or is avril WAY too over-rated

i liked nelly furtado! very unique =D but yes avril is too overrated.. jay thinks she's talented cuz she makes up her own songs (which is pretty talented) but her songs like skater boy and i'm w/ you is very very easy to make up! the lyrics aren't even deep for a native english speaker!

I actually don't know much about Avril Lavigne... don't ever listen to the radio or watch MTV, but I have friends who love her and who hate her. I think she probably has some talent, but she is a bit overrated. But then again I think for me it's easy for me to trash/criticize music industries that I know more personally or more exposed to. I think I probably know a lot more about Japanese music than I ever will about the Western music industry but I am surrounded by American pop music, and I don't like it too much, probably because I can easily criticize it. People in Japan probably think I'm a weird foreigner... Because really I just listen to who's most popular, and a lot of people would think that is very conforming. So I can understand a lot of foreigners who like Avril Lavigne, and she IS popular among Americans. It just seems that a lot of Americans [not saying here in particular] criticize their own music industry when they look to somewhere else to listen to music. okay, so there are two different accounts on when Jay met Avril. The one that's told most often is that they met backstage after the MTVAsia Music Awards. The second story is that they met backstage after her concert in Singapore. Either the stories all say that Jay met Avril and had his agent or someone act as a translator. And that then she gave him a copy of her cd and he gave her a signed copy of his 8th Dimension. There's something about one of them acting cool too. If it's the story about Avril's concert, then she was acting cool until he made her laugh because he was talking seriously to her about music. if it's at the awards, then Jay was acting cool and talking seriously about music, and she didn't think much of him....until he performed and she saw all his fans cheering for him. Ok, it was long (and rambling).....but I hope this helps!

OMG, has anyone seen the new issue of Rolling Stone? Avril is the cover person and they do this interview with her. And, it turns out she didn't actually write some of her songs she says she wrote....she cowrote them with some other people. They (the other cowriters) say that she's taking extra credit where she shouldn't be. Songs she didn't really write include "i'm With You" and "Complicated". And, on top of that, she's a total poser. She's never been in a punk band ever......and she doesn't even listen to punk! She only listens to punk stuff that people give her.

I didn't watch her perform at the grammy's,but I think avril is okay.I wouldn't say I really like her songs but I also wouldn't say I hate her songs.Her song 'complicated' made it big in many radio stations.Well about the Gackt and ayu duet.Linny did you see them sing together live or did you just hear them sing together?I saw them singing live and I was actually laughing the first time I heard both of them sing.It sounded quite werid the first time I heard it after d/l it on kazaa.

I've seen them sing together live. The Silent Night live was awful as far as I could tell, but the live where they sang "Itsuka no Merry Christmas" was better.... much better. They weren't singing English in that one (thank god) and the piano was gorgeous.

As for Avril... *shrug* To each their own, I guess. You see, I do have her CD, I have listened to her music quite a bit, and I guess, after listening to her for awhile, I just got tired of it. She's new and fresh, but I still don't think she's as great as everyone makes her out to be.

avril's songs are ok.. what attracted me to her is the fact that she wrote or co-wrote the songs on her album. lyrically, she can improve, and she probably will since she's still young and has room to mature. but her "punk, anti-britiney" image is way overrated. i don't think she meant it to be.... i think the media just took and ran with it.
