cool thread!!!!! well, i dont think its just singapore, there are "ghosts" and "spirits" everywhere, and there are different types too. i read many supernatural books when i was a kid, not sure how true they are but spirits really take so many forms. i remember theres even a dutch and portugese specie in both denmark and portugal respectively. oh well.. as long as i dont run into them! :glug:

When I watched "Inner Senses" starring Leslie Cheung and Karena Lam, Leslie's character said that ghosts are actually part of the culture because in different cultures there are different ghosts. And you're only scared of "ghosts" that you've seen before in the movies. We don't just invent or create new ghosts in our minds. It's something psychological and cultural. Hmm...

Yeah maybe you right about the being scared of "ghosts" that you've seen before in the movies Vunsin. But I have other views on this. I think this world is divided into 2 different dimensions. We are living in one of the them and the supposely 'ghosts' in the other. When we die, we will go to the other dimension and become human again. On the other hand, when the 'ghosts' in the other dimension dies, they will come to our dimension to become human. This is sort of like a cycle. Sometimes though, both dimension clashes, enabling people from both worlds to see each other. This is when we thought that we have saw a ghost and people at the other dimension will think that we are ghosts. (Hope you all understand what I'm trying to say. Got a bit carried away over here. :wink2: )

I think one of the most famous haunted places in Sinagpore is the old Changi Hospital. My friends went there sometime ago. 3 of them freaked out and stayed outside while the others went in. Guess what they heard. The foot steps of the others who went in. You all must be wondering what's so creepy about this. But I'm just wondering how can the foot steps of the people in the building be so loud that even people outside the gate acn hear them? SCARY.

I know what you're trying to say about the ghosts, but I don't get what you mean by "but I have other views on this" right after you said "maybe you right about the being scared of "ghosts" that you've seen before in the movies." So does that mean you disagree with me, or that you simply have more to ADD to my comments? :?

Anyways, about what you said. Well, that's still part of a cultural thing. How else would you know about those "dimensions" if not from someone from your own culture? By "culture" I don't necessarily mean someone of the same race. I mean the customs and civilization or a particular time or people.

Yes, that was said by Leslie's character in the movie. But I do think it's true. Or maybe I'm just not creative enough. I can't think of any ghosts or monsters that I haven't seen somewhere before. Don't ask me to make a horror movie.

I think any school here will also have rumours of it being haunted...

Almost all the toilets in schools here are reportedly haunted larh but i don't think that's really true at all.. :wink2: But i do get abit freaked out if i am the only one in the whole toilet..and things get worse if the lights there happen to be flickering on and off all the time.

Think there isn't as much ghouls in singapore compared to other countries for example indonesia cuz my previous maid was telling me how her mom met a pontianak on her way home one day..and their village is supposedly very near a graveyard and everytime her family wanted to watch a movie at the cinema they have to walk past all the graves at night..freaky isn't it?

One theory why people keep seeing ghost in toilets was that the toilet is probably one of the few places a person can be completely alone..... (Well.... I dun think you would pee in pairs, standing side-by-side at the urinal perhaps, but in the cubicle? :glug: )

The chinese sci-fic master writer Ni Kuang (who wrote the Wei Si Li series), used to say that spirits are just residual brainwaves from people who have passed on. Why some people can 'see' them, while others can't, would probably because, certain people are either more sensitive, or more 'tuned' to the frequency of the residual brainwave (like a radio tuning)

I dun really believe in ghosts, but that doesn't stop me from shaking at the knees everytime I pass by any dark, eerie places.... I am chicken, I know! But then again, I know there are no such things as ghosts, you know there are no such things as ghosts, but do the ghosts know that?

I don't really believe in ghosts, but sometimes I just can't help feeling a little scared... There are rumors about ghosts everywhere, and in my school too... My school's just right next to a cementery... But I'm not really afraid.. Though, sometimes when I'm alone I can get really scared of ghosts, I AM really like a chicken sometimes... and I definitely hope I'll never see a ghost, because I'll really really get scared like nuts. :? I'm always only scared of ghosts ONLY when I'm alone... When there's someone with me I'll just immediately not be scared anymore.

Am quite the same as you. Don't really know if I believe but I think I do. I have a few stories to share, some of which were experienced by my close friend while we were camping in school. Anyone wants to hear them? I won't scare the hell out of myself by thinking about the stories and typing them out if no one is gonna read it... what's the point right? :)

Heya! Y not share it? I mean I wanna read it....

Okay, here goes.

So I was at my CCA camp in June this year, and it was the second night, the barbeque night. The BBQ pit is beside the netball area, and someone had a basketball lying around, so a few of us formed a little game, just for the heck of it. So we were happily playing basketball at the netball court, and there were I think six or eight of us... okay, let's just go with eight.

Because my CCA invited some alumni members to the BBQ, there was this one ex-student there, a Chinese teacher at some secondary school who has the third eye. They asked him to do a head-count of the people on the basketball court. You see, there were eight of us, but later I found out that he counted ten. Which means that he counted two extra and unwanted people...

Of course, I was too busy playing basketball and drooling over the perfect form of this CCA senior of mine who was playing with my team to notice anything peculiar. Just goes to show that... eh, I don't know what also. :)

Another thing that happened during the camp was um, well, my friend, let's just call her M, yeah she was going to the classrooms where we kept our things alone at night. The classroom was locked (she has the key), nobody was inside and it was totally dark. So she inserted the key into the keyhole, unlocked the door, and she put her hand on the handle of the door to open it and enter the room. And the door handle isn't one of those round doorknob-types; it's those that you push downwards in order to open the door. Guess what happened? The handle fell onto her hand, as if someone was trying to open the door from the inside.

And apparently the ex-student with the third eye was up all night telling stories to my fellow CCA-mates. I wasn't there as I was too busy sleeping but they told me that they took a walk around the classroom block area, which is shaped rectangularly. I think they walked 'round the first storey, and after that the ex-student with the third eye told them that there were a row of spirits upstairs on the second or third level, leaning over the parapet, looking down at them.

There's this other story that I know of, unrelated to the camp, told to me and my Chinese class by the Chinese teacher. It's a REALLY freaking creepy one though; it scared the living daylights out of me, and my MOM got scared without me telling her the whole thing. It also involved the ex-student with the third eye and happened to a friend of my Chinese teacher's. I don't think I'll tell it now though, am a bit creeped out. Hehe. :) Oh well.

Anyone has any nice stories to share? I love hearing about things like that although it scares me to no ends. :D

OMG my friend too!^^ not her but her little sister and brother. Her brother can feel/sense it while her sister sees and hears it (i feel so bad for them)
One time my friend's sister wanted to go get her pencil case downstairs in the kitchen, she was too lazy to turn on the lights... and she walked near the corner to reach for it... when this figure flew past her!! (it was a little girl GIGGLING T _ T ) and the ghost flew into the family room where her brother was..... and the next morning, her brother told everyone that he thinks the ghost sat on him?? (he described it as he couldn't breathe and stuff)
0_o freaky stuff!!

i wanna hear more of ur stories!^^ i get scared to death but i still love to read about them^^ haha

My friend has the third eye too.
Actually her bro, mum and dad too... so that's basically her whole family.

I don't really ask her questions... cos it's rather sensitive and tactless.
She did tell me a little before.

She says that the 'things' are in colours-- white, green, red and black... and thus arranged in ascending order on which one is more "xiong".
Erm.. it's rather scary now... I'm all alone in the living room @ 0036hr.
I'll elaborate another day, when there is light...

Hehe you sound like me. :)

Regarding the other ghost story I mentioned in my last post last year, the very scary one... Well, it involved some old house in Singapore and also the alumni guy with the third eye, who is a friend of my Chinese teacher's. So their friends, a couple with like two kids or something, just moved into some old house somewhere lah, I forgot where, and shortly after moving in they began to experience some strange um, happenings.

To be more accurate, the wife and one of their kids who suffers from autism (retardedness, in a less politically-correct way of putting it) began to have strange things happening to them. For example, the wife would walk past a particular place in the house and catch a whiff of some horrible stench, and the kid would sometimes talk to the mirror or his/her stuffed toys. The husband, though, didn't feel like anything was wrong, so it was a while before they called in the alumni guy with the third eye.

And when they did, guess what? The guy with the third eye went to inspect the house and sure enough, it WAS haunted. He said that there were two ghosts in there, a guy and a girl, and they were the 'xiong' type, which explains the stench that the wife sometimes smells.

To make things even worse, guess where the ghosts spend most of their time in?

The couple's WEDDING PICTURE.

Oh my god. I am scared all over again.

Interestingly enough though, when the wife first entered the house she got a vision of a coffin falling from the ceiling. And there's some history about the house which I can't recall right now...

And my chinese teacher also mentioned that spirits tend to hide in stuffed toys too. Luckily I'm allergic to those things!

I stay near the MacRitchie Reservoir and often go there for an evening jog with my sister. We usually jog all the way to macritchie and take a slow walk into the reservoir. There was this particular evening when we walked into the grave of the guy in the "water ghost" story which was told in an email few years back I think. Nothing eerie happened yet it was eerie how we walked into the grave since it was suppose to be deep in the woods... =.="

hmm.. those of you who are brave enough can try out the old changi hospital. ive been there quite a number of times - at night and in the day. don't ever try going there in the day though, because there are quite a number of dogs guarding that area. but in the night, the dogs will be locked up (i think.. because i didn't encounter any).

i went there with my friends a number of times. but each time we go, we realised that the buildings were slowly sealed up, one by one. but only one building was left untouched. you have to walk all the way up the hill and continue walking to the end to get to that building.

for those who doesn't know where the old changi hospital is, it is located on top of a small hill. the hendon camp is located at the foot of the hill. so once you get to hendon camp, just walk up the dark road. there are no street lamps along that road. so be prepared...

Do you guys know that actually in woodlands there's a hdb which completely have no ppl living in it?
Its actually like other normal HDB flats, about ten or twelve storey high, but TOTALLY nobody live in it.
Not even one. I know this from my friend.
When she told me, I was like, how could that be? A whole block but nobody lives in it? What a waste! But when my friend told me to look carefully onto the block, (we were walking passby at that time), I was realized that what my friend has say is true. no light, no movement, no sign of life in the block. The whole block. Its near woodlands MRT station. If you are going towards admiratly from woodlands, you can see it. The block is right beside a church.

You have to look real carefully when u in the mrt, because the train move quite fast, in jus 2 to 3 sec you would miss it!
Theres a church right beside it. If you see the church, u quickly look at the building beside it. You will see.
It send shiver down my spine jus thinking of it. Because the whole block is so empty.
And so mysterious.

haha yea i went there before. at first when i look at it i thought it was some place for the soldier to practice or their camp site or something

i was round there coz i was in a taxi and happened to pass by it. one of my friends said it looks creepy but then...it kindda looks alright to me though :worry:

like Jay-er, i didnt believe there's GHOST in this world.
until a friend of mine told me during christmas when we're relating ghost stories to one another,
"the more you don't believe in it, the more 'it' wants you to believe in it's existance."
after what she said, many awful things started happening.
especially at OBS Singapore.. there's a tombstone isolated at one corner of the old campsite.
must beware of that place.
cos when i went there during 2002, i heard a female voice calling out to me in a very high pitch.
i bet no human can imitate that. it's seriously HIGH pitch.
freaky.

One of my colleagues at Golden Village showed me a photo of her recent outing to Sentosa with her friends and of cause they took some pictures at Siloso Beach, and also the Sunset Bay. If I'm not wrong, they took about 15 pictures in total. 10 at Beach, 5 at Bay. Strange thing was, one of the picture taken at Bay had shaded areas over one of her friend's boobs (Let's call her X). Then the very next day, X's boobs had red patches, which didn't go away for about 3 weeks... Weird!!!

The Old Changi Hospital is Indeed haunted, but only certain parts of it, the most rumored places are actually the place where they keep the dead bodies (Forgot what it's called), The bedrooms on the 2nd and 4th floor and also the Surgery room. I remembered going there when I was 15 year old with about 7 other friends. 5 Chinese, 3 Malays. When we reached there, my malay friends suddenly had a change of mind and insisted to stay outside and no matter what they refused to continue the journey with us. So the rest of us continued on. The few things I could remember clearly were the overpowering smell of dead bodies, faeces and cats. Along the way, we had weird encounters like, the wind was suddenly very chilling, and the dogs were barking very loudly and occasionally they wer growling as well. And also, the batteries in our torches burnt out real fast, even though they were new ones. The weirdest thing was the camera which one of my malay friends brought along, in hope to capture some "photos", the flash-light kept flashing, even though he didn't even on the camera at all. Frightened, my malay friends kept yelling for us to get outta there, so we left.

But strangely, the very next day, my 3 malay friends were down with very serious illnesses, like extremely high fever, continuous vomitting, and kept feeling hotness & coldness. All my chinese friends were almost killed by mysterious falling objects like mircowave ovens, bowls and flowerpots, when they were going back home late at night. And the camera... when we took to develop it, the assistant told us that the film can't be developed as the images on the film were exposed to direct sunlight, destroying the images, but only one photo was preserved, and it was the group photo we took before we went into Old Changi Hospital. We destroyed the whole roll of film and also the photo.

maybe it was because Fairiedd_angel's trip there was in huge numbers, resulting in the "Yang" Energy greater than the "Ying" Energy there, so that's why you didn't have any bad experiences.

Well, I do have quite a number of ghost stories regarding local places. Both personal encounters as well as stories from my friends. But mostly are stories from close friends.

Here's another:
I'm not sure if the Suicide at a certain shopping centre years ago was true or not. But this happened when my friends were waiting for me to have supper together.

It happened last year around late August (or so-called the Hungry Ghost Festival) around 1am plus. A group of my friends were sitting near the Shopping Centre, near StarBucks and a few metres from them was a T-Junction Road. As they were chit chatting, suddenly there was a very loud BAM, followed by a long loud screech at the road just behind them. Startled by this of cause, my friends went to the road to investigate what happened. When they got there, there were no accidents, damaged vehicles or anything. Totally nothing there on the road. They even went further up and down along the road to see if the accident happened somewhere further from them. But nothing.

Thinking that it might have been a motorbike with blasting music or a sportcar that vroomed by. Minutes later, I joined them and I was told of this story.

since i'm working in another island..

i believe most of you should be very familiar with it..
i myself went once recently only.. >.<
i heard from a fellow colleague who is a frequent fisher and he told me this..
That there's actually a pontianak lurking there in the night.. on one end of the Park..
so for those of you who likes to fish there overnight..
becareful.. and try not to stay in isolated place.. :wink2:
it's actually at the end of the Park.. towards the Harbourfront side.. i believe there is an isolated bunk camp site there..

Anne, it's not in the Underwater World itself, but there is this spot along the beach, which I'm not sure if it is sealed from the public, that is really said to be huanted. I wasn't kidding.

Here's an interesting fact about Sentosa. There are several secret tunnels that goes underground that link Sentosa to numerous locations in Mainland Singapore, places known include Fort Canning Hill and somewhere near Harbour Front. But it has been sealed and blocked off by the Japanese after they lost the war and left Singapore. Freaky isn't it? The enterances to the tunnels can still be seen visibly from the various locations. But naturally, no one is allowed to enter. The enterance into Sentosa has been sealed off as well, it is said that the entrance is along the beach stretch near Underwater World. OOooo... Freaky. :shifty:

andantino, yep. That place is called the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Where 90% of the concerts in Singapore are held there. A very inconvenient place if you ask me. And way too small to hold all the Jay fans in Singapore, because both his The One and Incomparable concerts were extended to two nights because of the limited seating capacity and the overwhelming ticket sales.

andantino, that's always the case you see, until we have a bigger venue, his concerts will always be two days. The organisers actually wanted to extend the Incomparable concert to a third night due to overwhelming response but sadly the venue has already been booked by other event organisers.

Liwei, I've heard lots of stories abour "dirty" things in Clementi too. I think it's because your niece is still very young. Kids are very much sensitive to such things, but as they grow older, most of them won't be able to see it.

OMG... no wonder you say that your old apartment is huanted and dirty.... My goodness, "he" must be really desperate or really lonely.

maddywolf, some of the MRT stations are said to be huanted as well. The most famous ones would be Yishun and Bishan MRT stations, but I've never personally seen them. And I don't want to.

well... i also have a ghost stories....
i was serving or should i says i was doing my NS training at Terengganu
The incident happen....
i still remember ....
it was around begining of May or middle of May...
Our camp held a party for us as we are leaving on the next day so everyone weren't allow to stay in the dorm...
it was an unfortunately day for me,while we were watching the karaoke competition...
Suddenly, my friend,Shirley told me her stomach pains... so i ask her can she waits for a while more as the competition will ends soon... she saids alright...
but after a few minutes, she tolds me,she can't wait till the competition ends so i follow her back into our dorm and let her rest.... before we go into our dorm,we have to inform our dorm teacher. So both of us walks to the teacher sitting area and told our dorm teacher.. That my friend stomach ashe and she wants to go back into the dorm and sleep.. So my teacher allowes us to go back to our dorm.. When we were in the dorm,my friend told me that she wants to eat her medication and then sleeps so i help her..Suddenly,my tummy ache,so i went to the toilet and relieve myself.. After i have finish relieve my tummy,i went into the dorm and found her already doze into her dream.. i went to my bed and lie down cause my tummy still pains.. While i was reading my book,i heard people washing clothes in the toilet*as our toilet is just behind our dorm or should i says that our dorm attach with the toilet* i was surprise as no one is in the toilet and everyone were outside at the assemble area where the karaoke competition still going on.. the person in the toilet brush her clothes very loud and rinse the clothes very loud... then i was surprise as there's no one were in the toilet when i was in there and all my dormates already was their clothes in the afternoon.. Suddenly, there's a voice in my mind ask me to go and check it out and another voice ask me to stay in my bed...so i follow the other voice that ask me to stay in my bed.. the person in the toilet finish rinsing her clothes and now outside the toilet hanging her clothes.. when she finish hanging her clothes,i heard my friends coming back from the assembly area and the competition ends.. so i when into the toilet and found the floor was dry and the hanging clothes area don't even have a wet clothes there.. i was shock.. Then i told my Laopo 'bout the incident and she told me it was the job of a pontianak*female vampire*.HSe says that the pontianak knows that there's someone in the room and it was finding a suitor. My laopo told me that i'm stupid if i go and look what happen!!!! she says that her friends also experience this kind of incident before when she was in our camp*1st batch* Infront of our camp is a graveyard area, malay graveyard area..

Actually, how much do u guys believe in ghost stories? I would choose to be ban4 xing4 ban4 yi2 (half-believe) only.

A friend told me this a couple of years back during my poly days.

She said that a friend of ours was in one of the girls toilet after a late class (around 9pm+). She was alone in there, and she went in a cubicle to do her "business". But as soon as she is about to do it, she saw "someone" staring right back at her in the cubicle. She scared the wits out of her, and immediately rush out of the toilet.

It sounds really scary, but I think I choose not to believe it totally. Cannot be, right? :?

maddywolf..
i don't think seeing ghost is a norm thingy..
it's not everyone who get to see them..
some get to see, some don't..

i think what my sis, jacelyn meant was..
everywhere there's ghosts..
or spirits or souls.. whatever you wanna call them..
it all depends on whether u believe it or not,..
and ppl says seeing is believing *shrugs*
so have you seen it?? :shifty:

i believe that if a place there's ppl ..
there's death.. there'll surely be souls..

BlueChaos

i thought soul should be either in heaven or hell?
Yes - but some people believe that if they have unfinished business, they will remain here, such as when they're doing suicide or died in accidents, because they died unnaturally.

Wendy
05-06-2006, 03:41 PM
that's what the old ppl said...

I think that's why some ppl (family or friends of the deceased) hired priests to perform rituals at the "scene of accident" to guide the souls to the place they ought to go. That's what I saw on tv..

By the way, the hungry ghosts month will be coming soon - during August. That's when the "good brothers" will be out on the streets.. beware of where u go, and what u step on..

Well... the chinese believe that after ppl died.. they will go to heaven or hell.. The King of Hades (in hell) will be the one who decides whether the person did good or bad things when they are alive. I'm not sure about the details, but should be something like that..

anyway, they will be punished if they did bad things, and "locked" up in hell.

Then, there is this particular month whereby they will be "released" to go back to the living world and do whatever they want to do. For eg, to repay debts or worst, to seek vengeance.

So, during this month, ppl will start to prepare offerings for the "good brothers" (or ghost).. so that they can "eat" good food. Also, ppl will be burning many joss sticks and (i dunno what's that called in english, but its kind of a money paper for the good bros).. So, for u guys out there, DO NOT step on the offerings, DO NOT step on the ashes, and be careful not to stay out too late at night. well, this is what my elders always told me, so i know a bit.

For more information, pls go and watch this movie called "The Maid". Its already out in vcd and dvd.. Hahaha.. like i'm advertising for the movie right?? Anyway, this movie is already out quite long ago, somewhere last year.. i can't remember...

Hope u have a nice night!!! hehee..

Auhh... that's quite spooky. As a Chinese myself, I only know about Ceng Beng, the time in the year where we visit graves of our family. I did know a little about this event you're talking about, I've seen some Chinese ghost movies, classic ones, where they are scenes of people playing opera, but there are no spectators at all sitting over there in the chairs, they say that the ghosts are watching. Then some morons began sitting there and the ghosts got mad and became zombies. Maybe this is similar to the event you're talking about, sounds bad...

i wouldn't knw how will the actors reacts if they see sth.. -.-ll
but i'm sure that most chinese production has this practise..
which is to pray first and foremost before starting any filming..
firstly, to let the "things" there knw that they're there.. hoping that things will go smoothly and no accidents happen..

as for souls living in trees..
yah.. i've heard of it.. it seems that spirits/souls needs a place to reside.. sth like a home.. it doesn't mean that they can only reside on living things like trees.. but statues, umbrellas, teddies... dolls... :shifty:

Talking abt hotels.. which reminds me something..

I heard ppl telling me that there's a bible in some hotel rooms (i dunno which countries). We were told not to touch it..

If the bible is opened, do not close it, just leave it open, cos there is some "dirty things" in the room. Or else, (for me) I would change the hotel room immediately. Can't imagine staying in a room knowing that there's something out there with u.

BlueChaos
05-21-2006, 08:12 AM
Wendy, what is the reason for that? The bible is not some kind of a cursed book, and it is not some kind of holy book you see in the movies, you show it to ghosts and they die away, so there's no connection between ghosts and not touching the Bible it seems. If it were me, in those conditions I'd just grab the Bible and open up the verses that give me strength, like "the spirit that is in you is greater than any spirits in this world" or "do not fear, for fear does not come from God" etc.

Wendy
05-21-2006, 08:40 AM
I don't know the reason..

Maybe its alright for the closed one.. but for the opened one, what they said is that a certain verse or a prayer on that particular page is "used" to subdue the spirit or whatever the "thing" is.

BlueChaos

As far as I know there are no verses or prayers on the Bible that is used for demon banishment, but I could be wrong. Most demon banishment or exorcism are done by praying and singing, not by special chantings or readings of verses, and don't even start to think about Constantine, it's all wrong in the movie. If the opened verses are what I mentioned above, it would better suit the readers, not the demons. And on all occasions in the Bible, there are no cases of demons being "held", all of them are being told to go or leave.

Wendy: About the Bible issue, my friend did mention to me something about that.

If you see the Bible in hotels at Thailand, means that the room perhaps had a murder case or anything that is spooky. I've never came across this, but it chills down my spine when she tells me about it.

I don't know how it is in Singapore, but most hotels placed a Bible inside the hotel room drawer, usually it is only the New Testament version in English, for tourists to use for their daily prayer and reading.

So, IMO, it does not account that every hotel room with a Bible is cursed/haunted. If it is so, then it will be like saying that the Bible is a tombstone for the spirits or sorts.

BlueChaos
05-21-2006, 04:29 PM
Let me tell you one thing. Being protected by God doesn't mean that you should go around looking for trouble. Those bibles and crosses are not going to help you anything, it is God that have powers, not the bibles and not the crosses. Even then, if you go looking for trouble, it's the same if you got protection from a top bodyguard, but you just cause trouble with the bad guys out of curiousity, boredom or whatever.

So let me say it again, don't mess with the spirits. If they don't disturb you, don't disturb them.
