Hosted by famous singers Huang Yun-ling, Wan Fang and Chi Yu, etc, a Taiwanese website has selected the best five CDs of 2002, which are Sun Yanzi's "Leave," Jay Chou Jie-lun "8D Space," David Tao Che "Black Tangerine," Cheung Chi-sing "May I love you" and Norah Jones "Come away with me." Huang commented that Jay has successfully blended eastern and western music together with stylish R&B and hip-hop components, while David compiled the eastern thoughts into the western music genres. Yanzi presented us a diversified CD and Cheung Chi-sing's release was quite unique. For the western representative, Norah's music, covering various styles, ranging from jazz, ballads to even blue, would bring in another new generation of music.

ermm.. i think stef sun's new album is kinda cool.. there's this cool song call ''shen qi'' which have this influence of indian music.. n she even collaborated with jpop r&b singer, mai kuraki ''my story, your song''
personally i think she have been working very hard for each of her album.. there's always new elements inside every album.. which i think is cool. 8)

I didn't really like the song she sang with Mai Kuraki. Just sounded weird imo. Mai isn't exactly my favorite jpop singer either :/

personally i think track 8 (Understand), track 10 (Learnt)...typical love song, track 9 (Full stop)...like the 3-beat feel, track 9 (Youth Unlimited) sounds refreshing

Agree, her voice sounded so different singing in English than Mandarin...it actually sounded annoying in English. Anyways, one of my biggest pet peeve is artists singing in English if they can't pronounce properly

I think Stephanie Sun is very proficient in English. Considering she's from Singapore and I've heard her speak. Her pronunciation is totally acceptable by my standards... I think maybe people in the US are not used to English with a different accent. Actually, English is first language to many countries now and like alot of other languages, it has taken on different accents and pronunciations. No one pronunciation is taken to be correct or standard anymore... although some people in UK still thinks that the RP(received pronunciation) is the standard english pronunciation. Actually less than 3% of people in UK can speak RP.
Oops... turning this into one of my linguistic lessons.
Anyway, yeah, what I'm trying to say is that I think we should be more open to fact that language change and variation is normal and everywhere now.
It's high time this thinking should be integrated into the media too.

Oh... was abit carried away with the language thing there and forgot to add this
I think that Li Weisong is really great cos it's those songs that he composed that really struck me.
The rest are average Mandorin pop, I think. Of course Steph Sun's singing style did help in differentiating them.
