Do you believe that when u die, u'll be "reincarnated" or in simple terms "reborn" into something else, besides a human? :? I heard some people in my art class talking about reincarnation, n I was just wondering what u guys think... I f you do believe in being reborn, what would you want to be?? :hmm:

In chinese they believe that if this lifetime you do alot of sin, in your next life you would be born either a dog, cat, pig, etc, or maybe someone who was born with a WOODEN spoon, someone not so rich, and got to work their life away jus to survive.
Where else some ppl was born with a SILVER spoon, and they live in luxury, dun have to worry abt their three meals a day. That why all human being have different lifes.
But christian dun believe in this, I'm not bery sure abt christian, looks like have to ask the christian in this forum to answer this!

yes, i believe in reincarnation and karma. if we have bad karma in our past lives, we will be reborn into an existence that will be worse off than what we have now..that's why it's important to change our karma now. for me, it is to chant to gohonzon..(i'm from a buddhism association, singapore soka assocation) and to answer your q, if i want to reborn, i'll definitely stick to being a human being...

Well, I'm not a Christian (I used to be and was actually baptised as a child) and I don't believe in reincarnation. I don't believe in God. But if I were to be reincarnated, I'd still like to be a human being. Perhaps a male though, because I want to know what it's like.
Actually, I'm Christian, so i know i won't be reincarnated into a bird. But if I were to become an animal, I'd be a bird. :D

I believe in incarnation and Karma too! :yeah:
I believe that if you commit many crimes in this life, you will be reborn into an existence that would be punishment for this life. I also believe that even in this life, if you commit crimes, you will be punish sooner or later..... you can be richer than any other person, but you may be condemn into a life of loneliness....

I want to believe in it. It's a bit absurd to believe that after dying that's just it. The end. Period. But I'm pretty much indecisive about the whole thing.
I do believe there's heaven and hell though.

I believe in reincarnation only because I watch too much chinese tv shows that talk of such things. It makes sense to me though. They say that usually the things you like can be linked to what you were before you were reincarnated, for example I like giant pandas and that could mean that in my past life I could have been one myself.
my mum told me a story about how when die u have to cross a bridge and drink a soup..so what ever you get reborn into...u wont remember past....
Yeah and the soup in chinese is called 'ma po tong' or something along the lines of that. I remember something like that happening in the Journey to the West tv series and the pig guy instead of lining up to become a human again he went into the wrong line and became a pig.
I want to believe in it. It's a bit absurd to believe that after dying that's just it. The end. Period. But I'm pretty much indecisive about the whole thing.
Exactly what religions/beliefs are for... It is pretty hard for some people to believe in this way of life... But there are some who don't mind it at all...
nupengyou, its called Meng Po Tang...which would translate into something like "Dream Witch's Soup"...basically she'd feed you this soup, and you'd fall asleep and dream all that has occured in your past life, and once you wake up, you'd forget it all.
religion isn't only for those who believe that there's life after...life...and it certainly isn't just for people who seek meaning in life.
rather, i'd like to think of evolution and all its trends as a solution for people who can't deal with a higher authority and having to pay for their crimes committed during life.
but that's an entirely different topic altogether.
i don't believe in reincarnation, although i know a lot about it...i know much of buddhism through people who are buddhists around me...i.e. my mom.

Hmmm... To think of it another way, it wouldn't matter if you believe in life after death, or not..... when you die, you will know.... Like, whether you believe in God or not, when you meet him after death, then he exist, if not, that's the end of the line....
But according to my 'other' favorite guy, MacGyver.... "Death is not the end of everything.... it is more like a phase of life."
-MacDawn
sincerely agree with that, macdawn...death is really just a phase of a much elongated life
people seem to misconstrue the meaning of the word eternity, at least...in terms of Christianity. they say that eternity lasts forever, and they believe that eternity will therefore be a long, long time.
but in reality, eternity is just an always-present phase...in which you no longer feel time passing...because every given moment, every moment that's passed and every moment that is to come will all be just "now"
xian, i've always been 13, what do you mean?

I don't believe in reincarnation. It's kind of depressing to think that after this life everything just goes *poof*, but that's what I believe. Because to me, the idea of reincarnation is just like the concept of heaven and hell, a fabrication of the human mind (in my opinion, of course).
And as for the karma and being punished for your sins, I believe that that all happens during your lifetime. If you were a good person, you die surrounded by loved ones and with a feeling of accomplishment, knowing that you made a positive contribution to society. If you were a sinful person, you die alone and useless. So I guess it's all a matter of how much you are willing to give that contributes to how you die.

I agree with sor-bee. Karma all happens during this one lifetime and not the previous or next.
no offense, of course
how would that explain wealthy bastards that die of a stroke in their 80's?
or the destitute but compassionate children who die in their teens?
in reply to sor-bee, of couse NOT YOU vicky =)
but to you, vicky...they seem like figments of imagination due to lack of knowledge on your part, no offense, but its true and you understand it to be true. about 90% of the people who rebuke Christianity or any other religion, for that matter, know very little or nothing about it.
i've come to terms with the fact that the Bible is very real, i've seen so many evidence going for it...scientists and historians who are converted in process of disproving Biblical laws and history...i've seen historical evidence for the books of the Bible, studied the traces of it found around the world dating back to thousands of years ago. everything goes together almost miraculously in the Bible, no one's ever found anything to pull it apart yet. Christianity isn't only for people who need a religion or unscientific people. i have a list around somewhere, of just the people in this region who are Christians and argue against evolution, and these men and women hold PhDs and are highly respected in their respective fields of study. many of them biologists, biochemists, geneticists and so on.

Yep- i believe in reincarnation. To deal with karma and all that life problems that haven't been dealt with from previous life.
Though i'd like to see more evidence of reincarnation  .
I wonder where else can we find more evidence? Hmmmm... *rubs chin*
thats true vicky, thats why this topic at times becomes hardly debatable...the opponents are nearly polar opposites in terms of faith

how would that explain wealthy bastards that die of a stroke in their 80's? or the destitute but compassionate children who die in their teens?
That's a really good point! But I think that maybe you're talking about the length of a person's life, while I'm talking about quality?
I think that even though the sinful rich people may live a longer life, it may not neccessarily mean that they led the better in relation to the children. It's not a matter of the amount of time, but the quality of the deeds done during that time. I, for one, would rather die sooner than later if I knew that I had led a good life and positively influenced at least one person. Because if karma really does exist (like I believe), then the bastards will have led a pathetic life and die a painful (not necessarily physical) death anyway.
no, i mean
if there is no afterlife involved...there are a lot of happy, sinful but filthy wealthy people who die at an old age due to a stroke or something, without any pain or suffering...
and there are also those who were born into destitution but have a good, loving heart and are thankful for what they have but die in their teens
i'm not saying that doing bad things doesn't deplete your karmic reservoir presently or in the near future, but i believe some things last longer than a lifetime...like our soul and what we carry on with us...light or darkness.

I'm not religious, so therefore, I do not believe in reincarnation.
But I do respect religious beliefs and I find the concept of reincarnation very interesting. Well...the Indians and their Caste System...is rather interesting also. The belief of being reincarnated into something you deserve to be...or something of that sort. I would say I want to be a human again. I don't care what sex.
erm..this is an interesting topic
but i hate to think about afterlife...how i would separate from my loved ones one day..
so i would avoid thinking about these stuff..
suddenly i saw this topic and everything comes back again..
anywayz i think it's better for us to believe that there is still life after death
only then can we face death willingly
so yeah i do believe in reincarnation
okay i don't wanna talk more about it..sniff sniff

well.. i belive in reincarnation more that jesus christ... yea.. it actually kinda makes sense... i would wanna be a bird or a wolf..
I always believe in reincarnation cause everyone will have an afterlife and a before life, it's just that we have forgotten all abt our previous lives memories that makes us think that we are a "new" person on earth but actually we have been going through the cycle for so many times already.

why worry about your next life when you haven't finished with this one???
even if you gave me a choice, i would still choose to 'drink the soup' and forget everything in the past life, to allow for a new beginning..
would you like to go into your next life with memories of your previous life? you would still be searching for your past family, you past love, when its time to move on..

I don't believe in reincarnation. Not because I'm a Christian or a science student. I just don't think that we can be reincarnated. If we can, then what were we in our previous life? And if everyone were to be reincarnated (as a human or an animal) then does it mean that every living thing in this world originated from reincarnation? So there'll be no more space for newborns who came into in this world without going through reincarnation. I think when we die we just die. We become a memory but not more than that. If we have a soul, it'll just be some kind of energy. But we won't be able to think and have feelings. Why? Because we don't have a brain. Souls do not have brains. And the brains control everything. So I strongly don't believe in reincarnation. It would be fun to believe though.

Does anyone want to join me in starting a support group for past-life Asians :D
I always joke about starting that group because I feel so much more comfortable with Asian cultures than American. My friends and family have come to believe I was Asian in a past life. Caucasian in this one however.
I suppose it's possible.
What's weird is that a guy I work with is half Chinese and he listens to Bluegrass (American hillbilly music) and I'm listening to Jay, and Amei and Karen Mok. The guy who sits between us is very confused.

I've always wondered about what happens after death. My religion believes in reincarnation. But I find some things contradicting. Like recently my grandpa died and when we went to choose a plot for his grave, my aunt mentioned something that this is going to be his home forever. And during his funeral we burned paper money, house, car, kitchen appliances, clothes, etc. for him to use in the next world. So I got confused and asked my mom, I thought one reincarnates after death, but she was like oh that's later. Huh? Then she says she's not sure herself. These rituals and beliefs are passed down from previous generations and so we just follow them.
I personally am afraid of death and don't like the idea of reincarnation. I'm scared of losing my memory and becoming something else. When I think about it, I get a burdening sensation and I become scared.

Nobodies actually know there are reincarnation or not, but my religion believes it. And you won't even know if some of your relatives are reincarnate as your son/daughter or being your relatives again. But reincarnation, only those who reincarnate and didn't lost his memory should know the cycle of reincarnation.

um..i've never thought about it..but if you've seen "the eye 2" that kinda makes the whole reincarnation thing suck..:D

I personally don't believe in reincarnation. Well, it's not that I don't believe in it.. it's just that I'm not quite convinced, because there is no actual evidence that people or other beings DO reincarnate. If there is actual proof that this certain being BECAME another thing after it dies, then I think I do believe.
But I do believe in karma. I do feel that what goes around, does come around.

i don't believe in reincaration but i doesn't mean i don't believe that when you die and your body / brains and all dissolve into the earth. perhaps bits and bits of you become scattered and you become a bit of everywhere. you appear as particle in a worm, a flower, the air, the water. do you believe we are made of stars because there is the possibility of its explosion, and catalysmic creation of human life?

my religion(buddhism) believes in reincarnation.. and from what i hear from my mum n dad..every one of our souls is a 'buddha'. If we do enough good and pray enough we can go up to heaven and join other 'buddhas'. but for now, we have done so much wrong in the past..we keep getting reincarnated over n over again..trying to correct and repent for our mistakes.
everytime u get backstabbed by a friend or something wrong goes on in ur life..it is believed to be karma from ur past life. Everyone around u right now..ur mum, dad, sis, friends..in the past life maybe u were all related. Maybe ur best friend now was ur husband, or u were somebody's cousin..etc etc. So, for us to be in the same forum right now..in the past life maybe we were strangers who only met on the streets or something.
Since we're all lil 'buddhas', then it is wrong to commit suicide as we are killing a 'buddha', even if it is ourselves:oops: because our souls are ancient and ours to keep..but the bodies are just a 'loan' in this life. it's like borrowing something from ur friend then destroying it. My mum also told me before that years later.. a buddha will come down to bring all the souls back to heaven. Then who knows what will happen then...another world is formed again?! haha =p

i totally do not believe in reincarnation. I am a Christian and I believe in God...
most chinese series about the olden days have reincarnation in them.
Christians believe that once you die, you go to heaven...and it has also been scientifically proven that animals do not have spirits and only humans do...and you will go to hell if you don't believe in God...
that is just my religion...not trying to offend other ppl

I dont believe in reincarnation, and probably, we dont go anywhere, we just leave our body which is a container for our soul and we just dissolve and be gone... there is no where we go....... for some.. like ghosts..... they might exist because of their will to exists, wanting to fulfill something....
so.....this is wht i believe in.... actually
I'm not sure about all these things!!! I think we'll be just like any machine, once we die we become dust and "disappear" from the world.
As for reincarnation, I think it probably just happens in stories or myths. If it really happens, I want to be myself again when i reincarnate.

I don't really believe in reincarnation not just because I'm a Christian but there have been occasions when dead people sort of come to our dream and tell us they need something (like money) and then we would burn some paper money for them. If they have reincarnated then why should they come to our dream and ask for money...so I believe there must be an after world. But I cant deny the thought of reincarnating seems exciting yet scary as well. It would be nice to try different kinds of lives and become completely different person but it is also scary in a way that what if your life is much worse than now (like becoming a homeless) or what if you become an animal/plant instead...

We Christians beleive in a After life called Heaven where you live with God.
Angels sing you hyms and rivers of Milk and Honey flow about.

I believe in Morals more then Faith. like being a better person and stuff.
Personally i believe that when you die........ Oblivion.Nothing happens
Youd ont feel anything, No Consious cause you have no Concious mind.
You Cant feel, cant see and cant sense. Nothing.
You become the darkness... or the light,.. whatever floats ur boat.
