View Full Version : Chen Xiao Chun: He sounds like a d*** to me (edit: Jordan Chan)

I don't know what his English name is, but I know his name is Chen Xiao Chun. (Other mods, if there is a thread about him please proceed to lock this). I tried to search for his English name, but I don't know what it is! I just know he's some old guy who's trying to be all down with hip hop.
Anyways, I didn't like him from the beginning, and after I saw his interview today on MTV China I almost hate him! In his new album release party, someone brought him two ice statues, one of a "tire" ("Lun" as in "Zhou Jie Lun") and another of a "Zhe" (As in "Tao Zhe, or David Tao). And he took a sledgehammer and smashed both statues! How rude! And Jay and David both wrote songs for him! He said it was symbolic for him, since he is hoping to break Jay and David's record sales numbers. AS IF he could even compare himself with Jay and David! He is no where on that level. The closest person to the both of them is Wong Lee Hong!
And that stupid Chinese interviewer asked him questions like, "So compare Jay and David, who do you like better?" and he goes, "David. Jay only writes songs, not the lyrics like David." Omg, what an ignorant bastard. He sounds so cocky and full of shit that I got so annoyed listening to him spew his trash! And then he said, "David sings way better then me, but I have personality," and "Jay Chou is like a little kid, his songs are cute, David's songs are more manly," omg, what an ass!! I couldn't believe what I was hearing from this old ass man, who is trying to be all into hip hop!! Maybe he can dance a little, but he was throwin up signs like he was straight from Compton or something. Give me a break, old man!!
Anyways, did anyone watch this interview or read about this? He pisses me off! And his news is on a lot here in China since his album is newly released in Shanghai. GRRRR I hate him!!

That's Jordan Chan. He's from Hong Kong. I don't like him that much either. I don't think much of his singing or acting. He's in a lot of movies, like the gangster movies with Ekin.

I dun like him either. I mean, look at his age, still wan to follow the youngster to hip hop? :bigyuck: And I dun like his songs too. His voice is so low, and he always sing songs that is bery sad. I feel sickening when I heard his voice! :realmad: Now that he's some sort of insultng Jay, I will not forgive him! :realmad: He say jay a little kid?? But i'm afraid that this 'little kid' had definately broke his sales record! :sealed: Still wan to break Jay's record? I think he got to wait a thousand years! :thumbsdo: speaking of personality, I think Jay had it more then him! Someone plz tell him to take a god look at the mirror plz!   :ranting: :ranting:

whoa, chun li... jordan chan actually said all that in a live interview? :glug: i don't know too much about him... haven't seen too many of his movies or heard too many of his songs besides the ones that jay composed for him. i thought he was an ok guy. but this makes him sound so bad... i thought that he'd be more tactful in addressing a question such as who do you like more b/w jay and david... and the part about jay not writing lyrics certainly reflects his ignorance... and the smashing thing at the beginning seems to be an act of arrogance... as for the part about jay being a kid, that was totally stupid... :-x why would he say that? and if it's a live interview instead of a newspaper report, then what he said can't be twisted out of context... *sigh* ah well... i guess he's been around the industry for a while now... still... i figured he would've learned how to handle these kinds of questions... guess not...

hmm.. ya.. sounds like a bastard in that interview.. i've always had a good impression of his acting skills though.. i dont think much of his singing.. actually he cant sing at all!!! lol. he's got this old song called "shen ah jiu jiu wo ba" or something like that? pretty lame song and he sounds terrible.. and i cant stand "suan ni hen" though i like david tao but i think that song he wrote for jordan sounds terrible.. maybe if another artiste rendered it, it would have been more bearable.
jordan acted in a singapore mediacorp series with christopher lee and fann wong before.. cant remember the title of the show but there were lotsa china people acting in it too.. his role was "he fan" i think.. but i thought he acted pretty well there.
oh well, and he was an ex boyfriend of cecilia cheung too.. pretty sugar daddy huh? haha
well i guess im pretty neutral to him though..

out of all of jordan chan's songs, i only like one of them..but all bc i like the beat, dunno what the words mean, and i've watched both MVs (cantonese & mandarin) and..everytime i see the MV come on tv..i look at him and think..he's so ugly!! anyways, now that i know that he's been dissing jay, i dont even wanna listen to taht one song anymore! :profanit:

hee..i actually quite like him..(i bought his 'suan ni hen' album and thought it was quite good)..i wouldn't necessarily call him an "old" man.. (and he doesn't look his age..he's 37, and he's three years older than david tao..)
he started off as a dancer, then turned to acting and singing..
i saw his album release press con on tele too..and he seemed embarrassed about smashing the ice..he said he felt really bad doing it because it was david and jay who wrote songs for him..(it was of course his record company's idea).
i'm surprised with what he said in that interview (as mentioned by chun li) about david and jay though.. :glug: maybe he meant he's a kid as in "xiao hai zi" (which is not a negative thing, just used to describe someone who's young or has a childish side)..
actually....coco lee and vivian hsu have described jay as "xiao hai zi' too..hehe..

ughh...i don't like his cocky attitude. he wasn't even like this until these days. all hip hop attitude and crap. swear he's the best.
his latest album sucks...only because it ripped off a lot of songs. seriously, does anyone think track 1 sounds exactly like Justin Timberlake's Like I Love You. I can't believe he would put it on his album even it's produced my Mr. Ripoff Hanjin.

WOW!!! jordan said all that....no way........
i fought he'd atleast show some respect to jay, afterall jay does write some of his songs.....
his best song...atleast i fink so newais.....'wo ai de ren' was written by jay himself....how could jordan say dat?
perhaps hez getting a bit green with jealousy...i mean hez been in the entertainment business for yonkers now and hez getting pushed out by a young spunky and talented fella........
hmmmmmmm......my ex bf met up wit him (jordan, not jay!) a few times cos he went to hk wit his friend, who is cousin with jordan.....and he said jordan was really cocky....hez just like that i guess.....aren't most stars?
except angel jay ofcourse..........

"So compare Jay and David, who do you like better?" and he goes, "David. Jay only writes songs, not the lyrics like David."
HM okay what gives him the right to say that? He doesn't write any lyrics. He doesn't compose any music. He should shut his old wannabe-hiphop-star mouth. I always thought he seemed like a cocky bastard -.-" I guess I wasn't wrong?
seriously, does anyone think track 1 sounds exactly like Justin Timberlake's Like I Love You.
YES! I'm not hallucinating after all.

11-15-2003, 03:45 AM
woahh.. why in the world did he say all that??
i've always been neutral towards him... and i thought that suan ni hen was pretty nice.. i think that if another artiste like maybe will pan sang it it would have been better cos i think the tune and arrangement for that song is pretty good ( it was written by david tao)
i read somewhere that it was actually jay that 'saved' him from his falling popularity in album sales when jay began to write some of his songs.. (i really dunnno how true that is but i vaguely remember reading something like that) and i always thought that jay and jordan were friends!! not very close but ok.. i can't believe he said that about jay and david.. especially after they both wrote songs for him...
oh and about smashing statues i think it's a practice in taiwan.. like let's say they want to celebrate selling 100 000 copies of cds they would smash ice figures '100 000' on their celebration party.. but i agree smashing the 'lun' and 'zhe' statues is well...

Haha well he's NOT going to beat Jay and David's record sales.. wishful thinking. But a guy can dream. I find it strange that he said all that stuff as well. I thought he looked up to Jay and David. I remember reading about how he waited and went out of his way to get them to write songs for him. And his BEST songs were written by Jay, IMO. Hmm, I like Jordan as an actor though.
I'm not surprised with any of this. my first impression of him was cocky bastard. He can't sing or rap. I hate people that do this. if you have no talent, THEN DONT TRY TO BURST OUR EARDRUMS!!! jebus...and now i hate him even more for dissing Jay and David...argness...

An old geezer? He should've shut up when he was doing this interview...or better if he didn't give any interview at all...He's a slimy plastid shit to have said those rude comments to our dear Jay....

Hah, he said that ?. He always sport this cocky, playboy attitude.
The only reason I bought his latest album was because Jay and David created some songs for him. His voice was lousy, I had to wince to go through the album.
BTW, I think he's still in top 10 MTV Mandarin charts, rrrr !

i don't know him personally, but i don't think he's THAT bad. i mean i'm not a fan of his, and i don't particularily like his singing, but i think one shouldn't judge a person based on something he said on tv to promote his cd. you simply have to do something spectacular and stunning (in a good or a bad way) to get everyone's attention, and i guess that smashing those stones (or whatever it was) was exactly what this has been all about. and i really think that despite of what he said about prefering david, he's probably getting along quite well with david AND jay. otherwise i doubt that jay would have written those tracks for him.
besides, we should all know by now that the media loves exaggeration.

oh, dis chun xiao chen got no right to say that. why should he criticise other singers when he himself isn't dat good. i dun think he speaks chinese very well.. and singz well.
and even if he is dat good, he got no right to say that. lolz. can sue him for slander? =X
i didn't expect him to toK like dis.
and he smash the statues juz like dis? i wonder how david and jay will react when dey hear about dis. its a good idea dat he wanna break the record sales, but.. nt by smashin e statues juz like dis. =X

OMG, i was saying the EXCACT same thing in the other Jordan thread. i think the songīs called "Huang Dou" and i think the beat from one of his songs (i think itīs track 10 on his new album) is from britneyīs "Boys" and the breathing sound in the beginning sounds like "Iīm a Slave 4 U"...

he said that? I think Jordan's all attitude with that comment. Hmm, i happened to like his album. Doesn't he have respect for people that composed songs for him? If it weren't for them, he wouldn't have a singing career!
He's all balls with this comment. Doesn't even think the repercsussions...Now he looks like an ungrateful bastard.
I'm still going to listen to his album though. This comment just made me look down to him as an entertainer and a person.
yer i never liked him either
he is really cocky and wasn't he the one that got jealous of Jay?
he's but ugly too =P
and of course he'll never break their records...who's he kidding?

I happen to like Jordan Chen. I'm 25, so he's not exactly an "old man" to me, but that's beside the point. Well, when I said I liked him, I didn't mean it as in I knew him as a person a liked his personality. I meant I liked some of his songs and thought he was a pretty good actor.
I don't know why he would say that on MTV China. I haven't watched it so I wouldn't know exactly what he said and how he worded them. I listened to one of his live interview on Taipei Hit FM regarding his latest album, and he had nothing but praises for Jay and David. He said Jay was very talented because their voices were totally different but Jay could write a song that suited him well for him. And he really liked the song. He also said David was a great musician and that he really admired him. So what if he does prefer David? Everyone has his/her own preferences.
About his rap/hip-hop songs, well, some of you might not think he's all that great, or even that he sucks, but I do know that currently he's the ONLY Cantonese rap/hip-hop artist who could do a fairly decent job. LMF is another story, because their style is more like rock/rap. I think his latest album is actually quite good.
I'm not saying Jordan Chan is a great guy or anything. All I'm saying is he's not as bad as you guys have made him sound like. Even if he did say those things to be mean about Jay and David, that wouldn't make him any less "talented" than he was. He's still the same guy to me. I don't have to start hating him or anything. I don't have to make a choice between Jay or Jordan. :wink2:
I don't really like Jordan all that much. I don't like the way he acts. The way his face has the same expression. He keeps the same face and has that doppy glare. I don't like his music either. His voice isn't attractive, sort of dull, no life in his songs.

11-16-2003, 07:35 AM
Well, what can I say except different people have different tastes? Doesn't really change my opinion about Jordan. Or Jay for that matters. I don't think either of them is handsome, but obviously Jay is better-looking. But like I've said, this is not about choosing between Jay or Jordan. I like both of them. So? They're artists. I admire them for their work, be it in music or movie, or some other thing. I don't have to like them as individuals. I might show some concern if they bad-mouth each other, but I really couldn't care less either way, nor would they even know if I do. :wink2:

11-18-2003, 11:42 AM
I've seen this guy around prior to what I saw of him on MTV China, and my first thought was always that he's ugly. Besides what he said about Jay and David, I mainly DON'T like him because I think he's a gangster poser. There is nothing "cool" about him trying to act cool. I do give him credit for knowing how to dance, and the only thing that caught my attention about him was that he could execute the moves pretty well. But as for someone his age, he should have a more sophisticated feeling. In that interview, he was walking into the hotel room and throwing up "signs" and other bullshit... dude, give me a break... you're throwing up star trek signs!!! I bet he didn't even know.
Another reason why I don't like him is because even though he did praise Jay and David, he also insulted them as well. If you're smart, you don't insult the people that write your songs! Even the stupid interviewer (who instigated all the comparisons of him, Jay, and David) told him, "You're burning your bridges!" And as for the smashing their names in ice issue -- he should know (if he THOUGHT about it) that smashing these things have a symbolic representation -- moreover, it's insulting and just plain rude. People smashing statues of numbers (for breaking the sales record) is fine, but smashing an ice statue that represents a person? Even if someone gave me a ice statue with my best friends name on it to smash it for fun I wouldn't do it. It's just stupid. He should have voiced his opinion if he really didn't want to to do.
Anyhow, I just plain don't like him. I think he's a cocky old bastard that doesn't have the substance underneath to pull of the "I'm a pimp daddy exterior." I think I dislike him more than Jolin.
vunsin
11-19-2003, 05:24 AM
Certainly, I was shocked that he'd say such things about Jay and David and I wished he hadn't said what he'd supposedly said on MTV. And certainly nobody could force him to do what he didn't want to do. He's an adult and he makes his own choices. Some of them happen to be stupid. But like I've said, I don't necessarily have to like him as a person, as a friend. As long as I enjoy his songs and movies I'm happy. He's just a celebrity. I'm just a simple consumer, not a judge of character. I think Jolin's horrible too, but she still has her fans. I'm not even a big fan of Jordan's, but I won't start hating him just because he did some stupid things. He hasn't done ME any harm. I don't think he's handsome (far from it, in fact), but he doesn't make me puke or anything. I'm not defending him or anything. I just want to point out a few simple things:
1) I don't care about his character, looks or level of intelligence. I'm only interested in his works. I'm not interested in knowing him as a person. I just want to be entertained.
2) I haven't seen or heard him said those things so it'd be hard for me to decide what tone of voice he'd used and how he phrased the things he said. Different people might interpret things differently.
3) I don't have to choose either Jay or Jordan. Just because I'm a fan of Jay's doesn't mean that I have to hate anyone who's ever said any bad thing about him, and vice versa.
4) Whether or not we consider an artiste talented is something very subjective. I happen to find Jordan talented (not extremely, but it's not like he totally sucks), and I know that there are people who'd disagree. Same with Jay. Not everyone I know likes him. And even Jolin has her fans.
And most importantly:
5) Just because someone has insulted somebody else that we like doesn't mean that we should stoop to the same level as that person. What difference does it make how much profanities we use to insult Jordan? I'm sure neither him nor Jay cares either way.

Well, let's just say that Chen Xiao Chun do have his right to be free to air his views only at his own risk of getting Tao Zhe's and Zhou Jie Lun's fans to turn against him. This is a big no-no as clearly the fans of these 2 big stars makes up most of the youong people. So.. he can forget about breaking their record sales... Especially when some fans might buy his record due to the few songs Jay and Tao Zhe had writtened... Probably that had made up the most number of his sales.. ;)

He has the right to say whatever he wants about whichever artist. However, when it's so clear that these people write the songs for him, (the songs that are actually popular) it is ridiculous that he would assume such a cocky attitude on national TV. If he has an air of arrogance around him, that's fine, but he NEEDS to have common sense, which I find him lacking.
Being a consumer is not just a simple thing. When you buy a product you have to make sure it's worth your money. Therefore, judgement is necessary when you are using the cost-benefit analysis of whether or not you want to spend this money to purchase the item. If it is an artist, then it is natural that you pass judgement on his character, since besides his music, the other thing that you view is his character, which is also related to entertainment value.
Moreover, they are in the public eye and always on TV, so their character is also a marketing strategy for their music. I don't find him being very smart when he fails think before he speaks. He alienates himself from the fans of the other artists, as well as turns people off with his personality. It's common sense. He's in this industry for business, and how will his recent comments bring in more business?
5) Just because someone has insulted somebody else that we like doesn't mean that we should stoop to the same level as that person. What difference does it make how much profanities we use to insult Jordan? I'm sure neither him nor Jay cares either way.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not insulting him because he insulted Jay. Whether he insulted Jay is also debatable and has nothing to do with the matter. He can say and act however he wants since I didn't even know who he was until I saw him on TV everyday this past week. I'm insulting him because I just find him plain stupid.
He is a simpleton that lacks TACT.
Even David Tao, when talking about his irritation with being compared to Jay, can say things in a more tactful manner than Hip-Hop Gangster Mr. Jordan Chan.
I respect your opinion, however.

Being a consumer is not just a simple thing. When you buy a product you have to make sure it's worth your money.
Actually, I didn't even buy his album. I just downloaded the songs. Besides, even when I buy CDs and stuffs, I don't spend time thinking about an artiste's character. I just buy whatever appeals to me.
5) Just because someone has insulted somebody else that we like doesn't mean that we should stoop to the same level as that person. What difference does it make how much profanities we use to insult Jordan? I'm sure neither him nor Jay cares either way.

Oh, I wasn't exactly directing those comments at you. Sorry I didn't clarify that. Well, I was just reading some other comments made by others and it seemed to me like they hadn't even cared to read through what everybody else had said and what the matter was all about, but they were using a lot of profanities without even knowing exactly why they were doing that. It seemed to me they were very dualistic thinkers. Everything's either yes or no, wrong or right, black or white, and they depend heavily on authority figures (namely you, in this case) to tell them what to think. They didn't make any good arguments at all. This bothers me.
I'm insulting him because I just find him plain stupid.
Aw... come one now. Be nice. It's not one's fault to be born stupid. There's nothing much they could do about it. Surely you don't discriminate against stupid people? :wink2:
I respect your opinion, however.
Thank you. :flowers: And I respect yours. :wink2:

I don't mind Jordan that much, he may seem little cocky and full of himself sometimes, but that's just the way he is. It's his 'style'.
He was on "Zhou ri ba dian dang" (this taiwanese game show with Jacky, Kangkang and NoNO). If you watched that, you sorta get the impression that he's the type that likes to muck around and try to be funny by acting tough! He's realli not that horrible.
I reckon he has a humour in himself, and if you don't take what he says so seriously, it's all fine! Cuz, most of the time, he's joking anyway!

Well, some of the people are younger at this board. I really don't know what to say about them and authority figures.
I didn't find Nicholas Tse arrogant despite what others say, since in his interviews he doesn't seem so rude. But I definately don't think he's a deep thinker though, and that's just from what I've gathered from watching him talk on TV. As for Jordan Chan, I didn't have an opinion on him until I saw him on TV for myself.
I don't discriminate against stupid people, I just don't like them. >=}
I guess the thing with Jordan is that I really don't know what he's cocky about. Nicholas could be considered cocky because he's good looking, and David Tao and Jay could be cocky because they're confident about their music. As for Jordan Chan, I don't see what he's cocky about. Maybe that's why he has to act like that, to prove to people that there IS something good about him. Oh well, that's enough thinking about him!

Well, I don't know about others, but for me, the character of the artiste affects what I think of their music. I don't care if they are really talented or they are songs are really nice. (Say I'm crazy or whatever :) ) So this is the same case for Jordan Chan. I think it's his attitude that really pissed me off. Not to mention that I don't think his songs are nice.
I think someone compared him with Eminem in the earlier posts. Ermm.. but i think Eminem is much better. At least his bad boy image is natural. As for Jordan, I think this whole bad boy image just doesn't suit him. Kinda fake and forced.
As for Jordan Chan, I don't see what he's cocky about. Maybe that's why he has to act like that, to prove to people that there IS something good about him. Is THIS thing supposed to be something good?
Have you all seen the recent 'shi zi lu kou' (bad with han yu pin yin hope you ppl know which show I'm trying to say) by Jacky Wu? Am I outdated in fashion or is the red hat Jordan is wearing is really ugly?

I think all the "gangster rappers" in Asia force their image. I mean, how can they honestly know what it's like besides what they see in the movies?

Oh my god....how can Chen Xiao Chun compares David Tao and Jay in that way..."Jay just writes songs,Daivid Tao is....manly.."...how can he..
Anyway, personally i seldom listen to his songs, coz i am not attracted to his style of singing, moreover, i think his voice is wierd to me...so i kind of dislike listening to his songs.
"Suan Ni Hen", a song written by David Tao, was commented by quite a number of people that the composing was no good, and they say that it is like a song for a funeral. I kind of disagree but i don't like this song.

Jordan seems 2 hav tat kind of jerkstyle rapper who don even know wat himself iz singin... ow man, look at his style. his acting iz ok lar... his old song, 1 or 2, iz gd, but all his new songs r rubbish, how can jay n david write songs 4 a kind of jerk@** like him?
he really wanna be a hip-hop king, but i think he gotta think tat again... maybe if he tries 2 change his style. but he stil can't break jay's n david's sales records.
Believe tat! no way!!!
y does he insulted jay n david at da first place?

hmm.. i think he's okay but now i know from the interview, i kinda dislike him. yup that one song did remind me of a justin timberlake song but not that good. also his voice is kinda low remind me like ja rule's voice. he should stick to his acting.
hmmm i never really liked him.
and then when he totally changed his style to major major hip hop, and he started to act all 'hip-hop-ish', i totally did not like him!!!
he used to be okay....... but i now i think he tries a bit hard.

Well, ever heard this: Some GUYS tend to act TOUGH when they're with people they're trying to impress. Like, even if they like this girl, they'd totally diss that girl in front of a group of guys they consider cool just so they'd get accepted. I don't know if we could somehow apply this "theory" to Jordan. :wink2:

this news is really sad for me because i actually like jordan chan. T_T how could he say that stuff....and live too! i hope that you guys will reconsider him as an artist though. songs i like are "zai hu" and "gai wo de ai" from his "that's mine" album and the song that jay wrote, "yi ding yao xing fu". when r. kelly was discovered to be a pedophile, a lot of radio stations refused to play his music, but after a while they started playing it again claiming that even though r.kelly did some wrong things, his music was still good. but it's really upsetting. like when nicholas tse got that DUI or when william so and mary kate were doing drugs... but artists are people too. they are bound to make mistakes...like when christina aigulera dyed her hair black...haha. anyways, whatever...

I like Jordan...=X
No one really expects him to beat Jay or David...but when you see his hair "white" it's actually just dye...I actually really like his songs and some of his movies...I like him because his voice is so unique and different from everyone else, and I also like the style of his music. His acting isn't bad either. If you ever watched the movie "Irresistable Piggies" he played this gay guy which was so funny. But overall...I'm not going to jugde the guy on his attitude, as long has he can continue to entertain, I'm fine with him.

yep that's jordan. to sum up- his only hits are the ones that Jay/David have courteously composed for him. he has a really shaky voice, so its annoying at times as well

he's all over the place.. pop/rnb/rock/ballad all in one album plus some weird combo of all 4... it just made everything sound like a mess in black hole...
hhmm but i thought he and jay are friends? saw pictures of them together before! but oh well, its up to him to shoot off his mouth whatever he wants to say!
