ah... we'll just have to start ignoring such gimmicks...

anyway, jay won't be performing in this event. i read it from a news article. forgot which one now... he's saving his voice and energy for his upcoming concerts in china.

Publicity! That's what it is! I think they put them together on purpose! They want more people to notice!

Well, at least Jay won't be performing because who knows they might try something else that's even worse...

actually, sinny mei... i just found more info on this event at jaycn.com. jay IS performing, but NOT singing. he'll be playing the piano. this has something to do with the contract of his upcoming shanghai concert. since it's going to be at the same venue, he can't sing on stage within a 3 month period before the concert. so, he'll be playing the piano instead. he can't play his own songs though. so, he'll probably play some classic pieces by other artists. and i read in another article that he'll be playing the piano while jolin sings. jolin is doing the "72 changes" song and jay's supposed to come out after that to accompany her in another song. not sure how true all this is. guess we'll find out after the concert, which is being held today...

huh?? there's this kind of "contract' ah.... maybe it's "why u cant speak clearly?" with jolin??? gimmick again...

the following is an extract on an article abt the concert, accordingly, Jolin introduced Jay "Now i m gg to invite a person out, he has made significant contribution to the music industry. He is Zhou Jie lun. Then Jay accompanied Jolin on the piano, Jolin sang Teresa Teng's song while Jay played the piano.

Wow this is really the first time tt they r so open abt performing tgt....

wowwy!! that is a nice pic!!!!! :excited: the lighting makes it look really beautiful... i wonder what teresa tang song was sung exactly. anyway... *sigh* if only jolin wasn't part of the picture, this would've looked perfect. :) thanks so much, hongdou!!

Thanks for the pic, hongdou! I think I'll just try my luck at computer graphics: Take Jolin's head out and put mine in! :brows:

Please, Jay, don't perform with Jolin. Anyone BUT Jolin. Please...

wackycashew
11-16-2003, 06:05 AM
i don't think it was by choice on jay's part. the organizers probably used it as a gimmick. plus, because jay wasn't allowed to sing due to the contract for his upcoming concert, they had to put jay on stage somehow... hence, PIANO! but yeah... i think i wanna fiddle around with the graphics and see if i can get jolin deleted from the pic. then i can use the pic for something else. :D

It's really weird how they made the contract like that. What's the difference anyways whether he actually sings or plays his own songs or not? Why don't they just say he can't appear on stage at all? But anyways, why does Jolin get all the luck?

wackycashew
11-16-2003, 06:10 AM
i think it's cuz it just so happens that it's at the exact same venue. it's probably a protection thing b/c if you've seen an artist recently on stage at the exact same place, it's less likely you'll fork out the cash to see him/her again. i dunno... just a guess... and jay has to stick to what's agreed in the contract, otherwise, he'd have to pay thousands of dollars for breaking the contract.

EDIT:
ok, just found out the song that jolin sang with jay's accompaniment was teresa's 甜蜜蜜 (tian mi mi) or "sweet". gives reporters even more stuff to write about...

really candy? :? i don't know for sure. just read it in one of the news articles at jaycn.com.

thanks for the piccie. whct's up with jolin's hair? it's so poofy! i can almost envision two cones sticking out from the sides of her head. and what kind of dress was she wearing? :glug: well, at least jay was just concentrating on playing the piano...

Don't worry folks ... I believe that either Azio or TVBS will be buying the concert viewing rights and we might just get to watch it on TV. Then ... we will know what was the song which Jay played on the piano (notice that I didn't mention that Jolin sang?) :brows: and how ugly and curly Jolin's hair was.

rachelle03
11-16-2003, 04:11 PM
more "gossipy stuffs" for reporters to write on....

kahel
11-16-2003, 05:26 PM
she does have ugly hair style on that. And i agree, Lisa, Jay seemed to be concentrating more on playing the piano rather than on Jolin *whew*

Those contracts are really a drag. If it wasn't for it, Jie Lun would be performing by himself. oh well...

hey, i just found out something funny... jolin sang a medley of "ni zen me shuo" and "qian yan wan yu" and it was out of tune.. of course reporters thought it was due to nervousness with rumoured boyfriend jay...

vunsin
11-16-2003, 11:37 PM
Gosh... why couldn't she just choose a song that she could actually sing?! Why did she have to torture people like that?

11-16-2003, 11:39 PM
Wow, Jolin looks like a Gremlin or something. Her hairstyle should definitely go back to straight... not that her modified appearance would help her singing any.

Poor Jay. Having to waste his amazing piano skills accompanied by the scraggly, out-of-tune voice of Jolin.

Erm i think its prob due to a natural lack of talent rather than any nervousness.... :bleh:
Whats with the hair...?!?! GOSH...
There was a video clip posted by candy with a short snippet of news of this event, and initially i didn't even recognize her...!!!
Oh and her dress looked as it was falling off....*bleah*

eekk!! jolin looked really bad in those pictures!! even scary!!

it's such a pity jay couldn't perform.. he's probably the biggest star in sony other thatn faye wong.. (in my opinion it would be worth going for the concert just to see the both of them) and why would sony want to put jay and jolin together? weren't they the ones who were unhappy about jay and jolin being on the same stage a while back.. in my opinion jay should just play the piano on his own if he can't sing or maybe that's not allowed too?? or he could have played 'i'm willing' (which was what faye wong sang that night) for faye wong.. that would have been awesome!!!

wackycashew
11-17-2003, 01:29 AM
i thought the report was funny cuz it said that jay just kept his calm expression and kept on playing the piano. hahaha... i wonder if he was secretly wincing inside.

as for what jay said regarding this performance... he really wanted to support this event despite not being able to sing in it. so, he agreed to collaborating with jolin. he said that the news about him and jolin have died down for a while and now they can work together for these kinds of official things w/o caring what the media says.

i also read that he plans to invite jolin as a guest artist in some future concert of his. *sigh* ah well... he really is good friends with jolin and thinks that she's really down-to-earth, a nice girl, and all. i guess she really can't be THAT bad if jay is such good friends with her. i suppose we'd appreciate her more if she was indeed talented. but jay thinks she's pretty good for someone who can sing fast and slow songs. *shrugs*

Well, I guess Jay's a true professional then. :wink2:

As for him being friends with Jolin, that's his business. She really isn't my type. Maybe she is a nice friend, but she sure isn't doing a very good job at being a celebrity.

As long as Jay's happy...

i just read from singtao.com that jay also played the piano for jolin when they performed "shuo ai ni". yea i agree with dazzlette ... it wouldve been a perfect duo if jay and faye performed "im willing" together!! too bad jay couldnt sing at the event. and  i'm not feeling her outfit!! the hair and blue dress was already kind of weird ... but plus those really shiny knee length boots ... so blinding!!

Nice ;p

Jolin looks OK... I dunno what you guys are smoking :x

Could it be... Jealousy?!?!?! ;p *Glares at vunsin and her ideas*

Nah ;p Can't be... Jay Chou fans jealous of Jolin... No way >;p

As for the singing the song a bit wrong... It happens... I'm pretty sure no one is perfect in the world ;p

11-17-2003, 07:25 AM
sorry, I am lost... why Jay can't sing in the event??

btw, given Jolin's appearance (which will most definitely make one burst out laughing), it's no wonder why Jay kept his eyes on the piano... else he'd be laughing and be unable to play

dazzlette
11-17-2003, 07:32 AM
he can't sing because of some contract problem.. he has a concert coming up in dec in shanghai and i think there's probably some rule that he can't have 2 performance permits at a time or that the permit he applied for his own concert says that in can only perform as stated in the contract.. i'm just guessing.. but you get the idea right? it's a legal problem.. china tends to have all kinds of funny rules

wackycashew
11-17-2003, 07:44 AM
lattae, i've already explained in the first page of this thread. :wink2: the binding contract is that jay cannot perform at the same venue within a 3-month period. otherwise, he has to pay thousands of dollars if the agreement in the contract was not carried out as stated. hence, he can only play the piano. can't sing or even play his own songs. so, i guess they decided to just get jay and jolin together in the end. to still create a stir somehow...

saw the pics here (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=169197#169197) and i cringed at the sight of the one with flaring nostrils.... she tired so hard to look cute and failed with flying colours. even barbie will laughed at her hair. don't even want to start on that piece of cloth she wore... even christmas tree+decors is not that blinding!!

i'm sure jL tried so hard to stiffled his laughter (my friends who is at this moment who has no idea who is jolin also burst out laughing!!), he's a good actor then...

And here's part of the article:

HIGH AND LOW POINTS OF THE CONCERT

THE BRAVEST PERFORMER: Taiwan's Jolin Tsai for wearing the skimpiest of mini-dresses despite the cold weather.

MR CONGENIALITY: Taiwan's hyper Harlem Yu, who jumped around, executing high-kicks in super-tight pants and leading the artists in a singalong at the end.

LOUSY IMAGE, BUT WHAT A VOICE: What's with the black, manly suit and that silver scarf? China singer Han Hong needed an extreme makeover, but that booming voice of hers could drown out the effete Taiwanese boy group Comic Boyz.

THE CATWOMAN WHO GOT AWAY: Hong Kong's classy Karen Mok who looked like a fine sleek feline with a Batman-like cape.

HELP, THE OSTRICHES HAVE ESCAPED: The atrocious Comic Boyz in black and white feather boas.

THE SPEAK MANDARIN CAMPAIGNERS: Japan's R&B duo Chemistry singing a line from Taiwan's Sars song, Hand In Hand. Korea's Shin Seung Hoon also delivered part of his own song, I Believe, in Mandarin.

THE MOMENT OF PATRIOTISM: Lone Singaporean representative A-do did the nation proud by hitting the highs effortlessly.

BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS: Taiwan's Jay Chou who played the piano for rumoured girlfriend Jolin Tsai. The contract for his current tour in China did not allow the superstar to perform a set of his own.

The whole article is here (http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/life/story/0,4386,220326,00.html).

The concert was 5 minutes from my house! I rode by in the subway and saw millions of people around there. My friend saw him outside of the stadium, and my other friend sat in row 5!!! Anyways, she said Jolin sucked. muahahaa. I haven't even seen it aired on TV. I think I saw some kind of concert, but there was like old ass people singing. I bet that was towards the end after all the good people finished.

Wow Chun Li, you seem to be quite lucky these few days!! Always managed to get close to Jay one way or the other, the ticket to ShangHai and and this

Anyway back to the topic, I almost puked when I saw Jolin's hairstyle gosh  gosh does she has a fashion sense?? I guess Jay was so focused on playing the piano because he just cant look at Jolin without laughing at her hair :wink2:

gosh does she has a fashion sense??
it's ironic how a person like her who prob earn thousands of dollars(if not millions) a year and surely can afford a better dress to wear spent that much money to look that cheap. she just proven that having a lot of money can't buy you good fashion sense. now, i'll put this in my ugly-jolin-pics folder.... :shifty:

we know what's her role for christmas next month, right? an artificial christmas tree, who will sing off key when you play the piano...

why jay's picture not so clear as Jolin.....hate that......i also don't like that 'Double J' thing........so anoying....aaaaahhhhhh....it seems like Jolin depends on jay's popularity.....so shame....i mean i like Jolin and her song that composed by Jay only...either jolin itself but i hate when there is any new try to collabrate this two J...but i can tell u one thing that jolin is not perfect for Jay........

Omygosh!
I just saw the photos....
Jolin's dressing wasn't nice at that event....
The clothes are too.....shiny...... :glug:
oh well...maybe she wants to stand out among the other artistes....

Jay playing the piano, and Jolin singing :bounce: ..I have no violent objections..i think they did it before...i don't see anything wrong in that cos maybe Jay wants to do his part to promote anti-piracy or something and in order not to break the contract,he can only play the piano...and who else but to collaborate with a good friend who happens to be Jolin!

Since both of them are such good friends,Jolin cannot be that bad...Just that her fashion sense is gettin very out of hand...
Somebody!Sound the fashion victim siren!!!wheeeee!!!!!!

Haha I know this is old news already....but still
just saw this on some site:

"Faye Wong and Karen Mok wowed the audience with their costumes and maturity. Japan's Mika Nakashima went further to prove that her elegant, barefooted features weren't the only things about her to be admired. The petite 20-year-old sang up a storm.

Still, none could top China's Han Hong, a true diva. Her boyish looks did nothing to hide her sweet, powerful voice, which stunned the stadium.

Imagine the transition when the Britney Spears-inspired Jolin Tsai hit the stage in a shiny blue outfit. Her performance was salvaged by a one-off appearance from Jay Chou, who provided a touch of class via the piano.

Every time a camera panned his way, frenzied screaming erupted _ speculation had been rife as to whether or not he would actually perform."

HAHAHAHA

oh one last bit about jay:

"There was a bit of disappointment when, at the end of the anti-piracy concert, Jay Chou failed to return to the stage for his own performance slot. Still, the night was young and there was a post-concert party to attend _ too bad that the Thai press, lucky winners and staff were misinformed about the time!"
