As your mod I would love to hear anything you have to say and any suggestions you may have about the current status of the debate forum, and I'd like especially to implement some improvements to make your time here more enjoyable.

So this is a poll set up so that I could know how much traffic we get here per day, and if you could fill out this brief questionnaire either by PMing me or by posting in this thread, that would be great!

Thanks in advance for your time!

Answer all or one or some of the questions, doesn't matter:
What do you like about the debate forum?
What do you dislike about the debate forum?
Do you feel that we have good quality discussions here? Why or why not?
Does your opinion get heard when you post?
Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?
Would you like to see more structured debates?
Would you like to see more debates on current news issues?
Would you like to see more general debates (i.e. "God" "love")?
What kind of suggestions do you have for the debate forum?
If you could write a new rule or take away a rule, which rule would it be?

What do you like about the debate forum?
the simple idea of arguing. good way to collaborate and learn from different aspects
What do you dislike about the debate forum?
when someone goes overboard and gets offended. like they think the others are on a lower level then they stop posting.
Do you feel that we have good quality discussions here? Why or why not?
most of the times, very good info and sources. but sometimes the same opinion is said multiple times and the same response is given every time.
Does your opinion get heard when you post?
dont care
Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?
no...
Would you like to see more structured debates?
yea
Would you like to see more debates on current news issues?
that would be interesting.
Would you like to see more general debates (i.e. "God" "love")?
interesting too..
What kind of suggestions do you have for the debate forum?
to show all replys. like when somebody replys, their post only shows the last reply and not the first guys reply. so... when b replys to a both and a&b posts are shown, but when c replys to b only b&c posts are shown. it should be like when c replys to b all the posts b replied to is shown (c post has a&b&c posts)
If you could write a new rule or take away a rule, which rule would it be?
new rule: i am the rule

Answer all or one or some of the questions, doesn't matter:

What do you like about the debate forum?

I'm only answering these hoping there really will be a change here. Because this forum has gotten to be a burden. But anyway. I really am having a hard time finding anything that I like about this part of the forum. I love to debate, but I hate the tention that is on here. I'm not sure I can pin-point anything I like right now.

What do you dislike about the debate forum?

I dislike how people are allowed to use sarcasim in their debate. I'm guilty of that too, only when it is being directed at me. People shouldn't be allowed to discredit someone, by saying they are wrong, they will be laughed out of a university, or any other stupid comment. I also dislike how the Mod who is supposed to be in chage of the forum, and in charge of corrcting these things, are breaking the rules herself. And is flat out insulting people. Calling someone a joke, is nasty and childish. So its funny she would come on here and ask people to fill out this questionare.

Do you feel that we have good quality discussions here? Why or why not?

Quality disscussions, are really based to me on how a discussion is carried out. So that really needs to be worked on. Because people tend to try to make you feel like your dumb because you don't share their point.

Does your opinion get heard when you post?

It gets distorted. People like to play on words, even when it dose not make sense. If information is posted, they refuse to look at it, and pick out things they want to see so that they can insult someone else. No ones point can be heard like that.

Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?

I'm far from afriad of the debate forum. But I know some people who have said they were afriad of the forum. They post once and never come back to check it. They said it's because they are scared. Why?! Because people here do nothing but tear eachother apart instead of debate. I'm offended by the debate forum, because it seems that people try to drag others into an argument instead of a normal debate. And that results in childish name calling and nasty remarks. I was guilty of flaming and jumping to conclusions before. But now that I'm not doing that anymore, people who try to flame, make me angry. So yup the debate forum offends me.

Would you like to see more debates on current news issues?

If people know how to read information given, and be able to respond accordingly. Maybe. People don't seem to connect the dots between information these days.

Would you like to see more general debates (i.e. "God" "love")?

Dosen't matter to me.

What kind of suggestions do you have for the debate forum?[/QOUTE]

Simple, make sure that everyone feels comfortable expressing their views. They should not be ridiculed for anything they say. This is not something that I have seen here. So if it is a rule, it is not enforced. Bad language should result in a penalty. I have seen people curse at someone else. And was not corrected. A rep point should have been taken away.

[QUOTE=judes;711675]If you could write a new rule or take away a rule, which rule would it be?

It would be that the mods who reply to threads, should follow the rules, just like everyone else. Anytime someone, even a mod makes a personal attack. EX: Your a joke, you don't know what your talking about etc. than five rep points should be deducted from that person. Whether it is a mod or a memeber. Anyone provoking anyone, should also have 5 rep points taken away. If they person violates that rule 3 times, they should be banned, if a member. If a mod stripped of their status, and reduced to a member with less then 10 rep points.

Does your opinion get heard when you post?
--Most of the time.

Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?
--At times, yes.

Would you like to see more structured debates?
--It would be a nice change from the free debates.

What do you like about the debate forum?

It shows you a lot of different sides of other users' personalities that you wouldn't normally see. Such as when they get really pissed off and start attacking each other vindicatively

What do you dislike about the debate forum?

How all the debates that involve politics tend to turn nasty for no reason - like the one on whether the government is doing its job to prevent racism. Sometimes I think users come here to work out their private feuds

Do you feel that we have good quality discussions here? Why or why not?

Mostly, until they start veering off topic, since it's interesting to receive insight from people all over the world

Does your opinion get heard when you post?

I hope so ^_^

Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?

not really ...

Would you like to see more structured debates?

sure

Would you like to see more debates on current news issues?

definitely

Would you like to see more general debates (i.e. "God" "love")?

those could turn nasty, but sure

What kind of suggestions do you have for the debate forum?

Everyone please act professionally - you don't see real politicians biting each other's heads off

If you could write a new rule or take away a rule, which rule would it be?

I'm not quite sure, I'll get back to you ~.=

What do you like about the debate forum?
- the topics in the forum are automatically un-tabooed just by being here. it feels more comfortable that way when there are no cold-shoulders.

What do you dislike about the debate forum?
- it gets intimidating to comment after a couple of pre-existing posts cuz either 1.your opinion has already been stated in someone's page long comment, or 2.it starts to be a debate within a group of 3 or 4 and it gets weird to chime in

Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?
- not really
Would you like to see more structured debates?
- yea, that would be nice
Would you like to see more debates on current news issues?
- im not a big follower on current news and i hate politics, so i couldnt care
Would you like to see more general debates (i.e. "God" "love")?
- as long as it has a direction

Very nice & constructive questions judes,however,I don't remember voting in the poll.So I don't know why I can't vote.Maybe I did,oh well.

What do you like about the debate forum?

I like hearing the opinions & perspectives of other people because it might enlighten my own perspective or I can even learn something.Additionally, debating really does stimulate & strengthens the brain by making you think more.

What do you dislike about the debate forum?

I dislike how certain people are too straightforward with their opinions sometimes, instead of displaying them in a mature intelligent respectable manner.

Do you feel that we have good quality discussions here? Why or why not?

For the most part yes, because most people that I've met or debated with so far are well educated. The other small percent,I have no comments for.

Does your opinion get heard when you post?

Somehow yes,my opinions are heard most of the time.

Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?

Frightened & intimidated,NO.However, there were several posts that did offend me.

Would you like to see more structured debates?

Yes,that would be really nice.

Would you like to see more debates on current news issues?

It depends, because I don't want to see a debate thread about whether Paris Hilton should go to jail or not, when most of the answers are going to be yes lol.

Furthermore, there's some current events that I would rather forget about, than to debate about it.

Would you like to see more general debates (i.e. "God" "love")?

Yes,general debates can be more fun than a regular debate, where everyone can express how they feel.Just as long as a cat fight doesn't break out.

What kind of suggestions do you have for the debate forum?

It would be nice to somehow have all the debate threads in their proper categories. So people can easily spot the topic that they actually have an opinion on.However,it's also nice the way it is.

If you could write a new rule or take away a rule, which rule would it be?

The rule I would focus on improving & enforcing is the "no personal attacks towards another user rule".I think that rule would sound better if it said"No personal attacks towards another user or group of people (gay, lesbian, fat, skinny, tall, short, young, old etc.)".

What do you like about the debate forum?
I enjoy reading different points of views and opinions. Freedom of speech :D
What do you dislike about the debate forum?
It is not that I dislike, just that I wish more people join, speak out and share their thoughts
Do you feel that we have good quality discussions here? Why or why not?
Yes and no, yes when people support their arguments correctly or say relevant comments, not when people take it too personal or it becomes a fight
Does your opinion get heard when you post?
Yup..I think... xD
Are you offended/frightened/intimidated by the debate forum?
Nop, I love debates and I dont mind admitting I was wrong or apologizing or accepting my argument was weak or beaten
Would you like to see more structured debates?
YES, definitely
Would you like to see more debates on current news issues?
Yes! I would actually like to discuss news...every time I read the news I feel like sharing my thoughts to someone...so why not here?
Would you like to see more general debates (i.e. "God" "love")?
Im not pretty sure what does it mean general debates but if it means god and love, I'll say not because I dont consider religion and emotions as valid judgments or arguments only because they are subjective and theres no way to prove wrong. Plus, someone can get hurt.
What kind of suggestions do you have for the debate forum?
I think people should try to participate more because it is a disadvantage when the majority of people agrees with one point of view and they all seem to attack the other one... that one may feel attacked or get scared...
If you could write a new rule or take away a rule, which rule would it be?
I think that if you are going to participate on a debate (I mean a proper debate style discussion), it should be cleared out that arguments such as: "I think dogs have 3 legs because my friend told me so" are not valid. I mean, I think there's nothing wrong putting your opinion, but when you are trying to prove something, demonstrate it with proper source/evidence.
