Hello Darkshrimp!
It's great that you're going to plan your trip to SG. :D
So when are you planning to come? I would suggest that you should come during February next year because that will be around the chinese new year period and you could see how we usher in the new year as well as watch the chingay parade (A kind of floats parade).
Four days should be sufficient for your trip. Do visit sentosa, a place where every tourist will go as there are lots of attractions there. Check out the website here (http://www.sentosa.com.sg/).
For shopping, every Singaporean will suggest Orchard Road. There are many shopping centres on the stretch of this road. And we have a newest shopping outlet called Vivo City, the biggest shopping centre in Singapore. Click here (http://www.vivocity.com.sg/) to view Vivo City's website.
Actually you can try visiting Uniquely Singapore website for more tourist attractions. Click Here (http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/index.html) to view.
I hope these little help would enable to plan your trip to SG!

Don't worry.. Singapore is one of the safest places around.. Our night life is more active during weekends.. especially Friday nights.. However, they are also night life during weekdays.. but lesser crowds if compared to weekends..
Remember to try our local delicacies if u are in town..

Tourists do sure come to SG for food!!
Here's some local delights we love to eat:
Hokkien noodles (Prawn Noodles)
http://www.makansutra.com/reviews/010206/prawnmee.jpg
Char Kway Teow (Noodles fried in dark sweet sauce)
http://onokinegrindz.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/charkwayteow.jpg
Chilli Crabs
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4039/dsc00262ad2.jpg
The above are just 3 examples, we have lots more delicious food like Satay, Laksa, Bak Ku Teh, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Bak Chor Mee (Minced meat noodles) etc.
No worries, our hawker food is pretty clean and hygenic. There isn't a need to step in to restaurants for every meal. Some famous hawker outlets include Newton hawker centre. :wink2:

U can go to the Food Republic at Vivocity to try our local foods.. although, some of the prices might be slightly expensive if compared to our friendly-neighbourhood-coffee-shops or hawker centres.. Its clean and cheap! U can also go to Chinatown, they have plenty of varieties (of food) there.. sorry.. i kept talking abt food.. I'm so hungry now..

Ohh, I just went to singapore this summer. You should definetly go to Sentosa for the water/laser show at night.
I think four days is a bit too long though, because the country is pretty small. Unless you want to spend a lot of time at each place as well as shop a lot, then I would say 2 days.
BTW, be careful to be REALLY clean because there's a lot of laws there about that.
sinyee
12-30-2006, 11:28 AM
yeah sentosa! Its been a long time since i went there though. Singapore's known as a clean and green city so its expected that there'll be stricter laws on cleanliness.
rainbowballoon
12-30-2006, 01:52 PM
:welcome: to our little red dot!!
there are laws but apparently there are still people who spit and throw their litter around. oops I should not be revealing such ugly behavior here.. but anyway as long as you throw everything in the bins, u should be fine. we're not really THAT strict, so dont worry!
maybe you might want to visit the esplanade to take photographs of our famous giant 'durian' structure.
http://images.google.com.sg/images?q=tbn:ZXb_WCB5ZF_dCM:http://www.tws.com.sg/singapore/sin_assets/desktops/800/esplanade-1-800.jpg
I think you should visit hawker centres if you get the chance.. the food is quite cheap but sometimes the place is a bit greasy but at least you won't be cheated of your money. :D i remembered i went to this place near the esplanade i think, looking for some dessert, and i spotted ice kacang. and it's sold for $5 when I can easily get one for around $2 at food courts.. they are out there trying to rip tourists' money. :-x remember to try chicken rice! :bleh: yumyum.
oh you might want to go to the Science centre. always thought it was kind of fun there  more info:http://www.science.edu.sg/ssc/index.jsp you can visit the omni theatre.
anyway i hope you will have a really fun trip in singapore!!

Personally the 2 days suggest by pureintuiti0n is in my opinion a little too short, unless you only want to see the "highlights". It's what most tourists do, but really, singapore is more than that.
4 days is just about fine, you can probably try a different breakfast (from vairous ethnic group) every day here's my selection:
Day 1, Ya Kun Kaya toast (http://www.yakun.com/) - the kaya butter toast set is to die for! It's a local fave for breakfast (tho we usually DIY on our own at home.
Day 2, go for some malay Nasi Lemak OR Lontong OR Mee rubus (Available at most hawker centres/foodcourts serving breakfast)
Day 3, Drop by Chinatown or Tiong bahru and have something delightfully chinese like carrot cake, "Zui Kuay", Chai Siew Buns, porridge,
Day 4, Roti Prata! you must try this. I recommend the store called "Roti Prata House" at Thomson Road. Forget the fanciful wannabe fusion prata (for example icecream prata, cheese prata etc). Go for the originals (plain, egg onion etc). Finish the course with Teh Tarik... YUM!
I can go on... Singaporeans are crazy about food. Trust me... don't get us started. Here's a site that carries the "signature" dishes and the recommended places to find them:
http://www.can.com.sg/content/neocan/en/streetwise/eat/our_lion_s_fare/foods_that_represent.html
The only thing not found there is crab. I am a fan of "No signboard". (http://www.nosignboardseafood.com/) And I prefer the pepper crabs over chilli ones. You should try both... they are different.
Other than shopping, I recommend that you go on this thing called the "duck tours" Its available at Suntec City. It's really fun! Basically you get to visit the major sights in SG on this vehicle that can go both on land and sea.
If you can, hang out at our "heartland malls" which will give you a better insight to our lifestyle and such.
I guess it really depends on what you're looking for? Are you into shopping, night life? Or are you a nature type person? Or perhaps you just like to chill out at the beach?
We may be small but there are actually quite a bit you can see and do here!
Personally the 2 days suggest by pureintuiti0n is in my opinion a little too short, unless you only want to see the "highlights". It's what most tourists do, but really, singapore is more than that.
I totally agree with lattae on this. We definitely have more to offer than 2 days!
A good place to start is to go to the Singapore Tourism Board's booth at the airport once you arrive and pick up the brochures. There are TONS and there is a brochure just on food alone! :D Yes, Singaporeans do love our food.
There are a couple of new nightclubs/discos that have recently opened :
1) St James Powerhouse (right across from Vivocity - the HUGE mega mall)
2) Ministry of Sound or MOS for short (the only one in Asia after Bangkok!)
There is another place called Zouk. Any taxi driver knows Zouk. It has been around for like more than 10 years and it's a cool place to check out.
Let us know what you prefer and we can recommend more!
unless there's a law about taking showers 3 times a day, then i'm good :d hehe
:lolabove: You might actually need more than 3 showers a day because Singapore's really humid!
Have you found accommodation yet? Need any recommendations? :wink2:
[edit]
Oops. Just noticed in your profile that you're 17. Might be a little too young to be entering clubs. I believe most clubs allow you in if you're 18 but it's usually about 21 and above (depending on each club's policy) for males.

this reminds me of qn came out for my olvl chinese compo it is something like this ---> write a letter to ur friend who's coming to singapore. he's heard that the island is so small that a day will be necessary to see the sights. persuade him to stay for a few more days through your letter.

lattae, wow, thanks for a such detailed plan of the days :D hehe. Really appreciate it. Yea seems like there's so much variety of foods, compared to back here in australia, so i'm sure i will eat as much as possible :D *drools*
ene, I'm actually a more of a hanging out person. hehe. And yea, like you said, I don't think i'm allowed to go clubing just yet :S still too young...hehe
And for the accomedation, i will be staying with a friend in singapore. Hopefully he will bring me around to all these places you guys mentioned :)
He said he lives on finei street one, but i've asked around, and that place doesn't seem to exist, and someone told me he prob meant sinei street one.
Oh yea another question, is KTV in singapore expensive? how much does it cost?
rainbowballoon
01-02-2007, 03:22 AM
Hmm I guess the most popular one now is Kbox. I usually go for the K-Lunch package which cost $11.10.. you get to sing from 11am--2pm with lunch thrown in (choice of chicken or fish). I think you can check out more packages (http://www.kbox.com.sg/kbox/content/view/45/74/)here.
the official website is here:http://www.kbox.com.sg
I never heard of sinei street one, but there's a simei street one.
Darkshrimp
01-05-2007, 03:58 PM
haha, yea semei street one. aiya i will confirm the address with friend later
Wow $11.10, that's quite expensive compared to Australia, as we have $9 for 3 hours. But i guess it's better than here :D maybe i will go check it out :d thanks for your help

Haha talking about Newton Circus, here's Wu Zun a member of Fahrenheit visiting this hawker centre just this Monday:
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/8404/normalsdf33ld.jpg
There's the BBQ Stingray with Chili paste, Oyster with egg, Hokkien Noodles, Char Kuay Teow (Noodles fried in black sweet sauce), Popiah (Vegetables, sausage, egg etc wrapped with a thin piece of rice flour skin) and BBQ chicken.
Wendy - thanks for the clarification! We are from the glorious DOWN UNDER :P it aint that hard to guess, no?
Starylosophy - WOW! Thanks for the pic! I was reading his blog and he mentioned he was there! Chun LOVES that place! :D How did u get the pic???
Starylosophy
01-26-2007, 12:36 PM
pyre: I got that pic from his blog too.
You try clicking on his photo albums, and click on the 2nd page which has a Singapore labelled folder. You can find pics from Singapore there.
really? but the photo album is locked with a pw..so i cant view it. hmmmmmm
hey guys
i wanna ask about something.
I'm planning to go to singapore on Oct 17 - Oct 21.
The problem now is i haven't bought or booked any return tickets (Singapore - Jakarta).
I think it's better for me to take flight directly from SIngapore to Jakarta rather than to go to Batam first before flying to Jakarta coz the airplane fare is not so different.
Based on the information i got from one of travel agents, it's cheaper for me to buy the return ticket in Singapore rather than in Jakarta, coz they don't charge additional fee or something.
But i don't have any idea where to get information or to book those tickets online.
My friend who lives in Singapore recommend www.lufthansa.com
but apparently, they don't have any flights from SG-JKT on Oct 21
Any other recommendation or informations ??
thanks..

Hi aina,
I tired to seach a few airlines for you but no flights or no return seats on 21st Oct to Jakarta. I search PHILIPPINES AIRLINES for departure date on 20th Oct left 1 - 3 seats at different prices.
If you want, you can try at www.airfares.com.sg. Usually, I buy at this website for air tickets.
Thanks Jes123
I've tried that website you recommended, but yup apparently there's no flight on Oct 21 from SIN-JKT
Looks like i have to cut my holiday or maybe extend it for couple of days.
