View Full Version : Spinoff sister site for JCNet?

I was thinking that JCNet has abundant resources to run "spinoff" sites for other celebrities, and I feel ready for a new adventure. But I couldn't think of any artist I want to create a site for. So I need some suggestions.
I have a feeling the obvious choices will be Jolin, Lee Hom, SHE, NQMM, etc...but when I first started this Jay site, there was very few to no English sites for Jay....he was merely an up and coming celebrity. The celebs I listed above are fairly established already. So what I'm getting at is, are there any new celebrities that you think deserve to have some limelight?
The other thing is that if we do have a spinoff site, I will not act as an lead admin for it. I will create foundations for the site and give full access to someone, or select individuals to administer it. I will merely be around for support or backup, as JCNet will be my main priority. The site will be completely separate from JCNet, that means your forum stats (post count, reps, etc.) from here do not carry over there if you are members of both. Also, we use vBulletin at JCNet, the other site can use whatever it wants, depending on the skills and preference of the creator(s).
Any suggestions are welcome, this is a fully open idea as of now...and if you DO think we should do a Jolin or Lee Hom sister/brother site, just give some good reasons and I will definitely consider it. We can also definitely have more than 1 spinoff as well.
Thanks!

oh wow this is a really good idea..i think i site for new celebrities like TANK ,Gary Cao Ge, and JJ Lin would be good..they are good singers so i think they deserve a site of their own.

Lee Hom deserve the place...
but since maybe he also already have his main site, maybe JJ LIN JUN JIE is the second choice.

actually, we should make a site for Rain bi. Yeah, he IS definitely well-established already, but as far as i know, there aren't any english/international fan sites for him... at least, i don't think there are. ^^' So we could start one! *yay*

Haha... I saw someone mention Gary Cao and I'll second that vote, since he is fairly new and that guy can sing and compose well. However, if it is based on the activeness of threads over here, I would say Lee Hom.

Before I begin listing which artiste, I really think that JCnet has been really a successful fan site for english speaking/reading fans like us. To be honest, I would really be lost in the world of chinese forums sometimes. And I really hope that this forum concept will eventually be duplicated to other celebrities.
This seems like a wish list for me. Hheheheh. All these years, I was always hoping to have a really comprehensive english website for Mayday.
I know they're already there and not up and coming. Plus they do have a few websites in english but just nowhere compared to JCnet. Hopefully this eventually becomes a concept that we can see for other celebrities, though I know it's really tough to manage a forum and doesn't come cheap too.
Just my wish, I guess.
I'd really welcome a Leehom forum thats a bit more international.
I agree. There are websites out there for Lee Hom but I don't find the inclination to visit it although it's in my Bookmark list

yes, a couple in fact as far as I know.
for me, I'd like to say "SHINHWA!!!" but seeing they've already got a few thousand english sites and forums, I'll control myself here.
I'm not very up to date with new artistes and who would benefit from having an english site, so personally for me it'll be Lee Hom as well. ^^ his fans need a place as good as this one.

i agree.. i know thgere area few forums dotted here and thgere.. but they seem to be more localised to one country in particular.
I would definitely join and participate in a leehom forum - especially if its run as well as this one - same rules etc
lets set the standard!!:excited:

i don't think lee hom need a new forum badly. i mean, the name itself was already something.
what about fish leong? or guang liang?

Wow such great support for Lee Hom...as much as I like him too, I'm still just not convinced it's a "great" idea.
I'm actually thinking Jang Ri In (Zhang Li Yin)...she has some great potential to be as big as BoA, now that's something I'd want to get my foot in the door with...then again she can just as easily flop.

what about Dong Bang Shin Ki?
i've visited a couple of DBSG sites/forums before... but i always got the feeling that they lacked something.
Xiah of DBSG has a duet with Jang Ri In... lol... but no seriously, i know that there are a lot of DBSG fans out there and they're really "HOT" right now because they just released their 3rd album.

I think Leehom already has lots of his own english forums, so i think Jang Ri In should have one. I think its also good when you start a site when an artist has just recently debuted.

NQMM should definitely be given some consideration. They're closely tied to Jay Chou, and are relatively new to the scene... I don't THINK there are any English fan sites yet (at least none as huge as JCNet!)
Plus they are awesome =)

i agree that lee hom already has english forums, but i really cant find any that are very satisfying. or maybe ive just gotten so used to jcnet, jcnet's set a pretty high bar for my standard of forums haha.
but id LOVE a good, complete, leehom forum.
buuut if that doesnt fly, id like to see more korean artists with international forums. im starting to get into se7en and taebin. JJ Lin (although not korean) sounds good too.

I agree with what what canuck_girl39 said; Nan Quan Mama was founded by Jay, so what would be more fitting than having a sister NQMM site?

I'm seconding cacky's suggestion of a Mayday English forum. Reasons:
1) They are pretty popular in TW & SG, somewhat so in M'sia but not as much in China. And they have a tiny base in other parts of the world. Most of their fans are congregated in TW, which is also why there is no 'proper' english forum style site for them.
2) They are not as widely popular as Jolin or Lee Hom or SHE (judging from the post counts in the individual threads). At least the fans are not as actively around as the rest. Translation will be pretty helpful especially for younger fans (esp in SG) where their Mandarin level is not that high.
Yeap. That's about it.. :)

I think it'll be better to setup a forum for someone that's only just debuted too. It's good for when people start noticing them and want to look for information, that's how I discovered this site.
I would like to recommend Fahrenheit, they seem nice and fresh and have the potential to go far. Even Jang Ri In would be a nice choice.

Cindy; OMG YOU'RE SO MUCH LOVE! :huglove:
I wanted to recommend FLH too, but it may not be the majority favourite of the site, so I chose to keep quiet :wink2:
But I definitely agree with you, Cindy. It'd be good to help boost the publicity for up&rising stars :-)

Though I like NQMM, I don't see them as the next big thing or something that can develop out of the brand of 'Jay Chou'... That may sound rather insulting but that's how i feel about them. (I am a fan too... but I only find them somewhat better than the other pop groups)
I would say Dong Bang Shin Ki too. They seems to have the potential to develop out too.. though i am not too sure about their current fanbase. All I know is that, they don't have an English site and their voices are incredible. :-)
Edited: Of course, Gary Cao is still the first on my list. However, let's listen to his second album first... haha.

I would suggest Gary Cao Ge. The guy has the best voice to come out of the Mandopop scene in a decade (yes, I love Jay to bits, but to be completely objective I would say Gary sings better), and he writes good songs too (NOW I have to say he can't beat our Jay here!). I'm a big fan of his, so I would really welcome an English fan site for him that's similar to JCNet.

i would LOVE an english mayday site.
love love love. i would even help run it.
i'm not that big of a fan of NQMM or lee hom so i can't really say i want a fan site for them.
to think of it, i don't really like many of the super popular artists.
hahaha i would definitely run a wu bai english forum, but i doubt many people like wu bai on here.
or a mike he forum filled with pictures of mike he.
or maybe just a "hot asian men" forum. *cough*

I think the fourth vote for Fahrenheit aka FLH goes to me too! There are new group.. so they need a big support.. yeap dont think the majority of JCNet know about FLH.
My second choice goes to Lee Hom too... but I think he is too famous. there should be a number of english forum outside for Lee Hom.
Anyway.. 100% I will support spinoff site for JCNet!

why not have a new site dedicated to Taiwanese music.
that way all new and upcoming can be represented?

12-13-2006, 12:23 PM
Me myself is interested in NQMM and FLH.
NQMM's music and talent are underrated because they're always over-shadowed by Jay. Their music shouldn't be compared and related to Jay since they have their very own style and personality. They should be judged as normally as other artists/groups in the industry. With that, they would be known or looked at differently instead of how they are now.
And I think FLH has a lot of potential. Their music is okay to me but I would really like to see them on screen and get to know about them since they're getting more and more popular nowadays.
A general site for Taiwanese music is good but I'm worried that it'll end up as another common Asian music site since there's already a bunch out there right now. Same reason for a Lee Hom site.

That';s agood point, but if maybe it was a single forum spilt into artist sections and make it solely for taiwanese muisc it would stand out.
it would only become general if there was on 'other artists' section which would dilute the taiwaneseness (if that's even a word) of the forum

I saw a Jolin forum before but it was a failure in my opinion. With only 60registered users! Nevertheless, just create one for her.
I would suggest group singers like 5566, KOne, or 168 Club. I would go for 168 Club though since 5566 no longer sings and KOne is just a newbie group. How about Rain?

12-14-2006, 03:12 PM
ok, here is my list.
Leehom: Because that guy has ENORMOUS potential which i personally think can make him become THE BIGGEST thing in asia *cough, after jay that is*. He's multi lingual himself, has a huge array of talents. Writes, produces and composes his own songs. He's been in the industry forever, but he's every changing and always moving, always a step ahead of many.. therefore it would be interesting.
Atm, there are many Leehom sites, but as mentioned before, they are all separated by country. On every country forum, there are these kids who STALK him and know his EVERYTHING, but imagine if all that info was put together? We could find out what he was doing every single minute of the day, yay! ok, i'm stopping the fangirl rant. I just think it would be quite successful and also there is enough room for it to flourish like JC.net has.
2. JJ Lin i admire his musical talent, but it just seems he's not THAT big in western countries yet.. this guy deserves more attention.
I would suggest group singers like 5566, KOne, or 168 Club. I would go for 168 Club though since 5566 no longer sings and KOne is just a newbie group. How about Rain?
LOL! Firstly, it's 183 Club. Not 168, unless there's a new band called 168 club which I never heard of. Secondly, they arent that popular here, so i guess there is no chance for it unless it's an anti side
I support leehom and mayday, for all the reasons listed above.

Gary.
He has so much talent, and I think he is underrated.
He's at a disadvantage because he doesn't have the conventional good looks, but his talents are boundless.
I love Leehom and all, but I think it would be fairer for Gary to have his own site because he's a new and upcoming start who I think has enormous potential.
AHHH. Gary <3.
And my second Choice would be Leehom.

So far nothing has really jumped out...hmm...
honestly I wanna stay away from the boybands. I mean there's nothing wrong with it...because F4 got real big right? But do I really wanna admit to running an "F4-ish" site if I did? Maybe no one has to know, but I doubt I'd be able to sleep at night. *disturbing shampoo commercials play in my head*
Everyone is saying Gary Cao has great potential. But didn't JJ Lin? And that other dude I can't remember the name of, and that other chick right? Yeah exactly...what is that "oomph" that Jay has that kept him popular that so many "promising" artists don't? Jay wasn't considered good looking either, but he had some charisma...I don't get those vibes from Gary yet.
Lee Hom has been popular for 10+ years...and none of the sites created really sticks for anyone? I dunno if there's anything we can really do for him then :/
I guess he lacks the gossip factor that Jay is so easily targeted for.
Mayday seems to be popular for the older crowd, who tend to spend less time on forums and such, so I'm speculant on how active and useful a site for them will be.
I guess I'm looking for a middle ground. A singer/group that doesn't mainly appeal to teeny bopper girls, or one that's targeted towards older ppl. An artist that people from many age groups can enjoy. Yes I hear Lee Hom..again.

My first cast vote would be Fahrenheit. Yes there is a English forum for FLH already but it's... well I stopped going to it, I couldn't understand half the sang (Call it unusual for a 14 year old teenager but I like proper English, thanks instead of thxzzzz) I have to admit though, FLH isn't that much talented. Yes they can sing (That's what they are there for) act etc, but they aren't like Leehom or NQMM which can write their own songs. But they are good eye-candy :-) And to prove the point that many people will go there, there's already a Part 2 FLH thread, Hana Kimi fans have passed 500 posts in HK Part 1 when just one episode had aired... and yeah.
I would also put the idea for Alan Luo, he's good at singing, dancing, acting... you name it  And plus, he's just had an album out and his dramas coming out in January 7th - a good start. He's a welcome celebrity (Espeicially his humor)
I wouldn't really vote for Leehom as the sister site since we do have a Leehom semi-forum kinda-thingy here but you find people only going in there once in a while. I can't say if I'll vote for Gary Cao or not since I've never heard his music (I'll give it a shot someday) NQMM... they are good, they've got the talent but from what I've heard (correct me if I'm wrong) Most of their fans are from HK and HK already got forums for them right? Other than a few members posting in the NQMM forum, it'll die quickly.

I don't know if we're all going offtopic, but didn't we mention about NEW SINGERS (or recent ones?). That means JJ Lin, DBSG, se7en, Leehom, SHINWA, Guang Liang, Rain(BI) and Alan Luo is off the list.
Well, since I've been checking, I just see mostly Gary Cao Ge, Evan Yo, Wilber Pan, Mayday, FLH, NQMM, TANK... that's about it.
On my first post, I voted for Leehom and JJ Lin and edited it since I didn't know it was for new singers. So when do we have an official vote for like (real) new singers?
But out of that list, I'll pick Gary and TANK.

NEW artiste eh? nah i don't think zhuzhu (Show Luo) can fit into the "new" category. neither can ber (Will Pan). ber's been around for more than 4 years if you include his VJ-ing days. and zhu has been in the showbiz for 13 years.
So my vote goes to Fahrenheit :D am biased.
I'm for Gary Cao or Tank too!
As for Junjie, erm, i like him A LOT but he's been in the entertainment scene for so long he shouldn't be considered "new" already, right?
Even though he's already pretty well established, as far as my community goes, Pan Wei Bo (Wilber Pan) isn't that internationally famous. I adore his music and mvs so I think he's a good choice
Also JJ Lin. I've never heard any of his songs besides "CaoCao", but I loved that song and I'm sure his others are just as great!
Not Guang Liang. Tong Hua was pretty, but his other songs aren't that great and he's not cool enough.

If it's New artists, then i change my vote from Alan Luo to Tank. Tank is a really good singer and like jay he has talent :-)

Yeah I loved Gary's second album. I liked it so much it prompted me to buy his first album. I think he's a really really talented vocalist. Everyone should check out his work, he may not be the best eye candy, but his voice is one of the few voices in the C-pop industry that brings goosebumps and chills down my spine.
I think he has the most potential. He won't grow old in a few years when there is some new eye candy in the industry and I can only imagine his voice getting better (if that's possible).
So I think a Gary forum would have the most longevity because like Leehom says, "with time looks fade, but talent doesn't".
There is also a girl Alicia Pan and another girl Sien that have pretty decent voices as well. But I don't think they are as well known so yeah.
