I'm always amused by how many of these items I can relate to.

michelle_chou: Are you joking? You know that all Chinese people love the number 8. It sounds similar to fa which means good fortune/getting rich. See what I mean? (http://www.ananova.com/business/story/sm_810728.html?menu=)

Most of the things could also be applied to Chinese anywhere in the world. In fact, a few similar lists have already been posted in the Laughters/Jokes thread. I'm just surprised to know that there are more similarities between foreign-born Chinese and Asian Chinese than I'd initially thought.

crusty-applepie
12-03-2003, 01:12 AM
im not chinese at all but i can still relate to most of the things on the list. i guess those traits are common not just to chinese but most asians.

These definitely apply to me...like 80 of them...
OMG ...i'm so asian ...
my school is so discriminating too...everybody goes around by calling u asian...

Anyways, are there anyways u could tell if you are american/canadian versus french or German?(besides speaking a different language of course)

bethie_me
04-14-2004, 02:09 AM
My mom matches pratically all of the points except for some of them like the Mahjong one. She doesn't play MJ. I match most of those too but my Mom and I have changed quite a bit when we moved to Canada. It's funny how asians like to keep everything and not throw things out. My dad really like to do that.

Lain Lang
04-14-2004, 04:01 AM

"Even if you're totally full, if someone says they're going to throw away the leftovers on the table, you'll finish them. (Your mom will give a lecture about starving kids in Africa)" Haha, every night we eat rice, I always hear that for sure; but it's from my dad instead.
And number 75 is definitely correct, they are NEVER satisfied with my marks... My family is for sure Chinese (even the tablecloth thing matches O_o)

03-21-2005, 01:50 AM
The sad this is that most of those apply to me. I also know why there are only 88 reasons as opposed to 24 or 44 reasons. :D I also know that white flowers should be not be sent to hospitals, only bright red ones or pink ones or blue ones. No white. White is for funerals.

I think most of my friends are like that though. XD

Hika-kun
05-03-2005, 12:52 AM
Lol. So so true.. it's kinda creepy. My mom found this in a chinese magazine.. and read it to me. And we were laughing at it soo much. Haha. besides only 12 of them apply to me. #'s 14,32,33,36,38,43,48,56,72,75, and84

eimiie
05-13-2005, 04:53 PM
Haha, I can identify with so many of those, like probably 99%. It's quite amazing that these fit so well. And they're funny too! I think the one thing that didn't fit me was the walkman thing and the coming in late thing. I thought Chinese people liked to go to things like 2 hours ahead of time. That's how we are sometimes.

kmwong26
05-13-2005, 05:13 PM

05-31-2005, 04:06 AM
I feel that the 88 reasons are actually sort of the thing we Asian do. In fact, I (and my family) did most of the things listed. I guess it was just more obvious among the Europeans if one do that.

I've read this before, but before I read these types of lists, I had no idea that no one else did or had some of those things, because I have Chinese friends, and we all went to their houses, and they would do the same things, so I didn't think that there was anything peculiar about them ^.^

xanimeotakux
07-22-2006, 10:24 PM

A lot of these apply to me, even though I'm not Chinese. Maybe that means I'm becoming more Chinese, LOL! I'm late, though, because my friends are all Latin American. Never go to a Chinese restaurant with Latin American friends, or vice versa!

Here are some of the things from the list I do:

I'm shorter than 5'8" (5'3", but I round up to 5'4"), but I drive a Suzuki.
I'm less than 20 and have a nice MP3 player.
I save containers all the time.
I refuse my grandpa's produce, or try to.
I used a sandwich box as a plate for supper once so I wouldn't use more dishes.
There are 2 pitchers of re-filtered water in the fridge, even though the water is filtered already.
I watch the non-dubbed movies. I watched "CJ7," "Kung Fu Dunk," "Secret," and "Initial D" with no English dub.
I say "wei" on the phone.
I know why there are 88 ways to know.
I try to be late, but I hate it when I'm on time, because then I'm 3 hours early. LOL!
I never go to the movies.
When you see the shrimp still while it's still swimming, then you know it's fresh!

I got all eighty eight but ten. But most of those were the ones that did not apply to me, because I am still in high school. (>__<) And I do not use e-mail very often, so I would not forward stuff to my friends....

But I am not even Chinese, I am Taiwanese so I guess I do not really apply....
