There are tons more, I just picked the ones that applied to me.

Ha, I can say yes to almost all of those. I was such an 80's baby. They don't make LEGO's like they used to you know. Poor kids tday, just don't have the quality toys we had growing up. It didn't get any better than Duck Hunt when I was a kid.
Remember your roots, play Nintendo.

haha I remember when you could buy super mario brothers with duck hunt and that racing game, I can't remember what it's called.
but I remember it had the pad you could run on, my mom was always yelling when my friends would come over and we'd race, all the stuff in the house would start falling off the shelves.

haha I remember when you could buy super mario brothers with duck hunt and that racing game, I can't remember what it's called.
I think that was "Motocross". It was a motorcycle game right? My favorite Nintendo game was Tecmo Bowl (but if you don't like football, you probablly never played it.) It is the greatest football video game ever made. It came out in like 88 or 89. Ahh, the memories. :D
Hey cowboy is that you in your avatar?
I'm from the NINETIES, and sooo many of those things I remember.
For example, I still have my NES system inside of my closet with my one and only game, Mario. Of the following toys, I had my legos moon rider, polly pockets, cabbage patch kids, transformers, voltron, pound puppy, friendship bracelets, velcro dart board, choose your own adventure books, g.i. joe, my little pony, and the original nintendo entertainment system (nes).
I own cassettes, and I am SO SCARED OF GREMLINS. I can't even describe how freaked out I am about them. Ask any of my friends. I used to get nightly nightmares of gremlins pouncing on me.. *shudder* and I once had a nightmare a few years ago about them killing my dad and sister. I HATE that movie. (Was it supposed to be a comedy??!?!?! It's still number one on my scary movie list... yes, above The Ring.)
I used to own a pair of Converse tennis shoes, but they're way too small now.. I think they're somewhere at the bottom of my "shoe basket."
My dad still warns me about eating pop rocks and coke together and if you were to look at my shelf upstairs, I have like ten mad lib books.. all of which I got at my elementary school book fair. I've seen more than half of the movies in the list and I remember when making origami fortune tellers was SO in.. I've said I pity the fool before, from Mr. T...
(Is the green slime from Nickolodeon or something?)
I can hum the theme to the first Super Mario Brothers song (the theme song, the underground song, the underwater song......) and I have a clear image of the Ranger bear visiting my school and telling us about forest fires.. I don't know about the fried eggs but I remember the crime dogs coming to my school and telling us to say no to drugs.
And who doesn't recognize the Muppet babies song?
...Either my parents passed everything down to my generation, or I'm really like 30 in disguise.

Actually it was World Class Track Meet (I had to look it up, it was bugging me)
Where you do the long jump and jump hurdles, like in the Olympics. My favorite nintendo game was Kirby, and this one Ninja game I can't remember the name of...crap not again...it was like you had to rescue kidnapped kids.
Speaking of book fairs, did you guys have R.I.F? Reading is Fundamental?
And also D.A.R.E? Is that still going on?
D.A.R.E. was for anti-drugs!!! I had that in my elementary school!!!
cowboy
11-09-2003, 09:14 PM
And also D.A.R.E? Is that still going on?
No, no, no,no Clinton stopped that in the 90's after the gov't admitted that DARE didn't keep kids off of drugs, and teen drug use was on the rise. That wasn't a big surprise to anyone. I had kids in my DARE class go off to smoke right after they got their DARE certificate. Hahaha.
Remember the "This is your brain on drugs." commercial?

yeah I still have my red and black D.A.R.E t-shirt and RULER!
remember when cole haans and k-swiss shoes and dooney purses were SOOO cool! With the girls, you weren't cool unless you had a dooney purse (they were usually fake, this was big when I was in 5th grade)

you remember when kfc came in a bucket
:? why? KFC doesnt come in buckets anymore in the US? i often come to the states to visit relatives but i ddnt know this. are they using cardboard boxes instead?
:? hmm... this was probably done for environmental reasons since i know a lot of big companies are getting some flak from using packaging materials that are not good for the environment such as styrofoam.
uhmm...adding to the list of 80s things...how bout being a fan of 'new kids on the block'? haha...i became one when i was on vacation in california in '89. hehe. got it from my cousins.

cardboard boxes? when i read that i thought of those big boxes u would use to move with. actually..they do use cardboard boxes..these little boxes that's probably cheaper. but i thought they still use buckets when u buy the family meal or something like that?
thundercats is still being shown on the cartoon network! i remember the song! and what about the teenage mutant ninja turtles and heman!?! i remember watching it on a small tv in the play room with my sister and brother and we would play with those figurines while we watched.

OMG!!! Mouse I remember the koala bear show on Nickelodeon. Memories...lol. I loved that show. I also liked that elephant show. I forgot the name but I used to see reruns on tv a couple of years ago. Eureka's Castle was another favorite of mine on Nickelodeon. Man, nick used to be so good. When I try to watch it now, I think it totally sucks. All the shows aren't as good as the ones when I was young.
Oh I also was a huge fan of Lamb Chops!!! (heathcliff, dennis the menace, carebears...the list goes on) When I was young I didn't know that the lady was the voice of lamb chop or something. I heard that she passed away though. Speaking of, it's pretty sad that Mr. Rogers died too. I didn't really watch that show but I mean like everybody grew up with him.
Hey guys I'm an 80s child too (older than most here on the forum) so I recall all of those things on the list. Yeah the NES was a big part of our lives then and I remember that game world class track meet where you would use the power pad and run (or take fast baby steps) like crazy before it would slip (if on carpet) and how you could cheat by jumping off the pad on the long jump etc (you needed to in order to beat the tough ones like cheetah) Fun times.
There was another game for the power pad as well - an obstacle course game that was even more fun.

I remember saying that the guy on "Star Trek" (Jordy) was the guy from "Reading Rainbow," LOL! Happy meals still come in boxes sometimes, and I have a bunch of LEGOs, including a Millennium Falcon, which I need to put back together. I dropped it while cleaning. I remember "Muppet Babies." I was born really late in the 80s, though, so I don't remember most of this stuff. I remember when they actually used to have Saturday morning cartoons--"Garfield" and "Peanuts" were my favorites! I still have a denim jacket, but it's dark blue. I also had one of those denim hats, and it had a big denim flower on it!
Does anyone else remember that phase in the 90s where everyone had to have the metallic rainbow-colored shirts? I only threw mine away a few years ago when the seams came apart.
