Ever got insulted for liking or listening to Jay by your friends, families, or anybody around you?

For my case, I do. However, in spite of the fact that I'm surrounded by Asians, 7/8 of them doesn't understand Chinese, Therefore they only hate him only because they do not understand him.

One more thing though. This poll does not apply to Asia region people. Because we all know...that everybody there is smart enough, like us, to know that Jay is da best!:wink2:

Almost everyone I know likes Jay Chou. Once, my teacher was talking about a girl who had 17 A's in her SPM ( a very important exam in Malaysia ). He ask " Does anyone no her? " Nobody replied. One more thing I wanted to add about the Jay haters around me. All of them are only Asians, which was surprising. Like I said before, most of them can't understand Chinese. They sometime thought speaking Chinese is gay! So, I guess that's how they develop a hate for Chinese music. One day in Sunday Chinese school, the teacher demanded us to speak all Chinese only but there's one girl who keep singing church hymns in English. Then this one guy said "sing Jay Chou!" I suppose that's an insult. You see how immature and stupid are the Asians around me!

Most Ameicans don't know Jay so they have no opinion about him. But I know one whose a Jay fan, which was...shocking.

woa.... that reminds me of what we say to this guy who's absolutely crazy for Jay..... i mean, no offense to jay or his fans... but this guy is absolutely insane!!! all his albums, over 500 pictures of him, all his songs, too many posters... and talks and really only thinks about him. But we make fun of him becuase he is a horrible bully. he constantly talks crap about everyone else and that's just annoying and since he likes jay so much, that's what we say to him.... I just wanted to come back into this thread and say something. I got insulted :cry:; not for liking Jay, but for looking at Jay pictures. I was at school, and the teacher wasn't around, so I was browsing through jcnet looking at some pictures. Then this girl comes along, and I quickly minimized jcnet- and she said "EWW. who's that you're looking at? SO UGLY!"
I didn't know what to say; well, I didn't say anything.

I think mostly Asians hate Chou. One of the reason is like what you said, the Asians living in western cultures are brainwashed and they don't appreciate the Asian Culture. They hate listening to Asian music (in this case, Chinese), they don't like to hang around "Asian nerds", they never speak their native language etc. So many of these kind of Asians are in my class. All they how to say is " I'm SO proud to be Asian", but they're doing the opposite.

Yup, many times. It's mainly because they don't understand what he's singing and they do not appreciate Chinese music. They're so narrow-minded and apparently culturally bankrupt. Only a few of my friends like Jay, and most of the time it's because he's Taiwanese...just like F4. :dry: You get the analogy.

Well, one of my friends is a Jay obsessive fanatic, and most of my other friends don't really mind, and even they are beginning to like Jay. But there's just this ONE friend who mocks me for liking him. She's Chinese, but she's just so... "westernised" that she kinda doesn't want to accept anything that Chinese, kinda, if you get what i mean... ^^' I mean, she like all those western bands, (and i do too), but she other than her physical appearance, you would never ever EVER realise she is non-australian... GAH!!!! She even SPEAKS CHINESE, and I can't even do that. TT_TT

Mm people hate on Jay because he 'mumbles' & people 'can't understand what he's saying.' Cough like my daddy cough.. anyway. Those are common excuses for not liking Jay's music. but it's different for me. I can't understand most of what he's saying anyway [I speak a different dialect than him], so I just enjoy his voice & the music itself. Not understanding the lyrics actually makes me appreciate the music for what it is more. :happy: [Like with K-pop, which I love although I can't understand anything Korean..]

Also, people seem to think he's ugly. :dry: Obviously it's just a matter of personal taste because I think he's pretty darn hot. :cloud9: But not liking someone's appearance isn't a reason for not liking people's music anyway. :-x

Well insulting Jay doesn't mean hating him all the time. It's just either they hate Chinese or something else. Insulting doesn't equal hate all the time. But those who insulted Jay are still demonic! lol I sounded like I belonged in Jay-ism.

Anyway thank you, everybody in JCnet, for participating in this poll. At least this taught me that I was not the only one on this rough road of begin Jay fan in this western civilization; there's a lot more with me on this tricky journey. ive had some sucess with jay chou i've even converted people to like him to a point and IM A GUY! the things i say or know about jay makes me seem gay but i just really admire his talent. kinda like a rags to riches story kinda sorta? but it just amazes me how he starts out as just a producer and then blows up when he gets his own album and continuially growing upwards. now hes starting to be in movies! its just great thats hes like a stand out artist like in my opinion when i think of Chinese music i think of Jay Chou, for Japanese i think of Utada Hikaru, for Korean theres BoA (even though she's gone Jap now). when you think of America you dont think of any like outstanding artist anymore. I study in an English medium school where 98/100 of my friends understand no Chinese, though Chinese themselves. And yeah, they think they are "westernised" that they only listen to English songs and choose to despise Cpop.

My school's mostly Asian so most do know who he is, but around half don't like him cos he's ugly. :dry: Before, my friends use to tease me heaps by saying, 'Man...Jay Chou....Gay Chou....Gay cow!!! So I FORCED one of my friends to watch his concert and listen to his CD and in the end, she had to admit that he has talent. And now she kinda likes him when she found out he was filial and loves his mum heaps.

with my friends, its kind of a half half deal. most of them are from Hong Kong and if you don't know how that goes, they have alot of 'honkie pride' so really, my friends usually listen to people like Twins, Alex Fong, Justin, Eason, etc. not many really listen to Jay Chou and don't really like him cause they think he's ugly or he's got a bad personality or something or other. haha they always roll their eyes and complain when i mention jay :( i just stopped talking about jay to them :P

But it's true.. i can always spot people liking him last time, but now, everytime i ask 'who's your idol' the words 'jay chou' seldom appears anymore.

It's because of his attitude towards the rumours and love. Rumours as in, everytime he's rumoured with another girl, he denies it and the photos show proof that they are together.. so it's abit irritating. But no one insults me cuz i like jay, they just tell me wad they are unhappy about him.

but the worse insult was from my ex...he said jay's attitude is very bad and forced me to stop supporting him....sometimes when we quarreled and i dont talk to him he'll start saying things like'now trying to act cool like your idol right....u find him very cool he just has a bad attitude and u still wan to learn from him??" that was the worse insult i've ever gotten....but luckily we've broken off....*phew*

YES but i proved them all wrong on the last day of school when I sang 3 Jay songs for my class. They finally know who Jay Chou is but the guys hate him because of what I did, they think I "hitted" on the girls in the class. I only did it for my personal gain to become a singer, so I kind of had too. Even my siblings hate Jay because of me, I want to become like Jay, they think it's impossible for me. Even though I don't take choir, I can still become like him. Did Jay take choir? I don't think so. But sometimes I can't stand the fact that they think Jay can't sing because of how slow his songs are. Because they listen to American songs, of course it'll be different. But yeah people hate me but I don't care, it's my interest and my life.

I would not term the word insulted, but maybe misunderstood or misunderstanding about Jay. Some of my friends are not as open-minded as I am about music. So when they hear me play some of Jay's music, they are like " Oh you're back at again". Meaning that I am listening or learning a language other than English. They just don't understand who Jay really is, because if they did, they would understand that he is just singing in another language but his music is just like the music that they listen to.
