I wanted to know if VCD can play on a DVD player.
For example when I purchase DVDs on Yesasia, and I know Japan version of DVDs I can't play on my DVD player (which is from the USA) so I wanted to know if I can play the Taiwan version which says (VCD) on a USA DVD.
Thank you:wave:

Harms i'm sure a standard dvd player can play vcds, but is that taiwan version ntsc or pal? Also check on your dvd it should have list of what it plays on it.
America uses NTSC and most of the European Countries uses PAL.
You could serach the net for a converter aswell. Most modern dvd players can play any type of vcd, so is yours a newer version one?
UPDATE: I've found out that taiwan and japan both uses NTSC so maybe it's your dvd player.
hope this helps!

Yeah, some DVD players can't play international stuff. But my DVD player plays international stuff+VCDs << So yeah, i agree with Ginuwine, maybe it's just your DVD player.

not entirely true. not all dvd players can play VCDs. The only way a DVD player can read vcds is if it has a codec or rather a progressive scan function. When you buy your dvd player make sure it has progressive scan. Also an average DVDplayer has the option for PAL or NTSC use.

oo okay but my computer could play VCDs right? So if I do buy the DVD, and it doesn't work on my DVD player, I can use it still on my computer?

you are half right, you'll still need to change your region code on your pc to play those dvd from japan, and you only have 4 chance to change it. Now there are some software out there that can let you play all the dvd in every region, and vcd can be play on every pc, even the only driver on the pc is a cd drive, since vcd is basically just a regular cd. Also, most of the dvd player built or sold in the US aren't built to play vcd, so you have to always ask the salesman before getting the player.
