Hmmm...I know I'm elaborating a taboo topic just now, but since I get to wonder how anyone would describe Filipinos from their own point of views, I do wish to know...What do you think of Filipinos :? ? I mean, most says we're excessively westernized (In which In my opinion is true...but of course, I am not one of them because I hate everything about them) and practically we're very much pretentious...and then some chinese says we're improvident...*sigh* well, I don't know...So what do you guys think? :wink2:

Do you REALLY want to know? Some things are just plain stereotypic... I don't know much about Filipinos or their country. But many times when I watch HK movies (the older ones, I mean), Filipinas are always portrayed as housemaids. So basically that's what I think about when people mention "Filipinos" to me = servants, housemaids, etc...
As for their attitude, I really can't say. I only have one Filipino friend. But actually he's only lived in the Philipines for one year and his family has been moving around because of their business. So he's lived in Brunei and Malaysia and has attended international schools. I guess I'd say he's pretty westernized because of that. But he's not pretentious or anything. He's cool.

Urghh..thanks vunsid...well...as you can see, Filipinos portrays those roles mainly because they need the job (and yah...they're so much into entertainment...they'd do anything to get themselves in television... :bleh: ) ...and yah, they're very diligent when it comes to house works...hehe...we're not exactly that poor yah know... :) ...anyway, let me tell you something about us...we're friendly...regardless of what, who, where, and whatever w's you came from...most of us restrain ourselves from offending someone in case we get offended...And also, we're a bunch of happy o'duffers...so you'll never get bored when with us...and then, what else? Yah...we love friends and meeting other people...
Anyway, thanks Polaris...yah...Filipinos are VERY religious...I'm in a Catholic school needless to say...and then we have religious daily routines...we pray at an average of 12 times a day (at school, every morning, and such...so many :bleh: ) And yes, like I've told Vunsin, we're friendly...but not exactly nice :bleh: ...urgh...just joking...

Evenstar, I'm glad you're not offended. Like I've said, I really don't know much about Filipinos. Oh! I almost forgot about this! My family had a fashion business when I was younger, and we hired all Filipinas to work there because they accepted lower wages to do the same work. :? Now that I think about it I feel bad, especially because when I was young, I was really terrible to them.

Filipinos = maids. That stereotype is ineveitable. It used to bother me so much but now, I have actually learned to become proud of it. Our fellowmen who have domestic helpers do help our country in many ways. Besides they earn the money in a "clean" way and get to help the core of almost every country, which is the family.
I still have so much to say about this but let's just leave it at that.
I love my countrymen, if only more of us would love our country more and try to help it survive the third world territory.
And oh, let's not start with Philippine Politics..makes my head ache!

Hehe...I'm not, Vunsid, don't worry...besides, Filipinos do know how to endure pain...and they do know how te get back at their masters (hehe...I'm only joking) well, in that case, you should know that Filipinos are not that bad...and even if they are, you can't really blame them... :wink2:

Let's put it this way, taking job as a maid sure did earn quite a lot of income for the Filipinos to support there poor family. I think it's quite an important job to most of the women there.
Oh ya,..and..do you eat this egg called 'Belot'?
I think...it's pretty...horrible.. Sorry about that. No offence..

Hmm I think Philipino are very nice people!
1) When I was little and living in HK my family & relatives had Philipino maids and they were all very nice & kind!
2) I also have a few friends at school who are Philipino and they are all very nice too. I find them very outgoing, friendly, and open minded. They are always so joyful! And I think they have really nice skin tone too! ^^ And the Philipino guys are really 'lady's man'.. and really nice!

Hehe...yeah...well, Filipino men are well-breed yah know...well not all of them but you can really hang out with them and they're very easy to love, because they're very caring and most relationships lasts for a year-long (I'm not exagerrating...it's true...my classmate has been going steady with his boyfriend for about 4 years...but of course...that includes all the hardships they've encountered.. :) .)
kahel, yeah!! Filipino food are worth a try...and very delicious too!!! Especially the sweets and delicacies...especially leche flan and ube...my favorites! they're such a yum...
Miss gun...hehe...actually the balot only sells at night...the reason is for them not to see what they're eating...hilarious, ain't it  ?

Most of the ones I know are great people. Very hard-working and fun!!! Lots of fun. more laid back than the average asian... and love life. I think Filipinos rock. I don't know toooo much about the culture, but they do seem very westernized but open to other cultures too. I respect that!

Filipinos indeed are more adventurous than your average SE Asian. :wink2: And Filipino men are known to be gentlemen.
For the food trippers, try green mangoes and bagoong (a local fish sauce), adobo, kare-kare, ube. All these talk about food, makes me hungry.

My ex bf was Filipino and two of my best friends are too.
What I have noticed:
-their houses are BEAUTIFUL ( very clean and nicely decorated)
-very religious
-very family oriented
-excessive amounts of food at parties
-very nice, happy, smiley people
I think Filipinos are great... I think filipino guys are very handsome too :)

 hey! happy to hear we're making some good impressions in some places! :wink2:
:D oh, im filipino too.
comparing myself to my asian friends (taiwanese, chinese, indonesian & japanese) i think we're really very different cuz we're so westernized. perhaps the most westernized country in asia. i mean, the religion alone, which has a large influence on our culture and lifestyle, is western.
in my opinion, this stigma of being domestic helpers or cheap laborers exists in asia only. cuz i know that in other countries, such as the US and europe, a lot of them are professionals or students.
...and of course, there's also those who marry their penpals  ill jst keep my thoughts on this to myself.

I always think the Philipinos are similar to our Manado (North Sulawesi) people : loves party, tight knits (family - friends), loves singing - music, strong christianity. Have a more relax outlook compared to other Asian.
Good "combination" look : malay + chinese + bit western, not too dark yet not too pale. Good English.
I haven't got a close Philipino friend, but the ones that I met when travelling abroad were all nice and friendly.

my sentiments exactly :) i love my country and all but our politics always give us a bad name and a migraine  but i guess one of the reasons that i love my fellow filipinos are because they're openminded, hospitable and when things are really depressing (like the political and economical situation) they still try to make a joke out of it to be happy, or at least not deppressing
as for balut, i have never consumed an entire one voluntarily. it tastes okay, delicous actually, but the mere thought of what it is is ugh, disgusting. i only ate an entire one because my cousin dared me to. in fact i never really finished it whole

filipinos? hmm..
im a chinese living in the philippines and i can say that many of them are very happy loving people. but sometimes it exceeds to the point that they equate work hours to happy hour. many of my chinese friends and myself included want to migrate to other countries because there is a big economic crisis here and politics is personality-based. i could go on..(i hope im not being offensive, it is just my observation)
but what i love here in the philippines is that people are very accomodating. my college friends are nice and friendly.there are also a lot of holidays and long vacations! hahaha! ithe schools here because they teach good english that's why many people from other asian countries study here.ü
yea..i somewhat agree with fish7...i'm not generalizing it for all filipinos..well a lot of those that i know have something wrong with their attitude..working attitude that is. i'm not trying to say that we'rte quite hopeless na nga pero i can\t help but think of it as that coz look at our situation now diba...i'm ok with filipinos naman eh i just dislike jologs and those others who tend to overhype things haahah

The relax culture or this laziness thing that we Filipinos have is due to a lot of historical factors. I could cite a few but I suggest you read Dr. Jose Rizal's article about this. It was clearly explained on that one. :wink2:
But the relax, homey culture of the Philippines is what Filipinos miss most when they migrate.
Hmm, I'm just a big Filipino nationalistic. Despite the political drama going on here, I love it. :wink2:
Both of the Tsinoys agreed with each another. :wink2:
I have no comment of that issue but i really really feel, the philippines have no hope already! And election is near and our top 2 presidenciable candidats are (obviously) kurakot.

I'm 87.5% Filipino. The remaining 12.5% consists of Chinese blood that flows through my veins.
This is probably the reason why I love Asian music and I got hooked to it - most especially to Jay Chou's captivating music.
Well, what can I say? I'm a proud Filipino despite several controversial issues and tough obstacles to overcome.I just have one wish: I fervently hope that Jay Chou would come over to Manila soon.

:hmm: I read some of the previous posts, teeheee~ My mom told me that philipinos housemaids were really popular in my country that is Brunei about years ago when I was 5 years old(maybe-I forget).
I had two philipinos teacher who taught me before, teeheee. I think it's hard for me to understand Philipinos' english accent~
I met a philipino from other site and he post a thread about philipino and one of his post he wrote that philipino is a mix that is between malay and chinese if I've been not mistaken~
I have a philipino friend and he said that he felt homeless when he was in philippine, now he is in London living with his family. I don't know if he is westernished but I can tell that his accent is changing,he follows the british accent*sighs*

JennEmma: Yes,you are right. The Filipinos are descendants of the Indo-Malays.
Our ancestors came from our neighboring nations in the south.
But the Philippines and the Filipinos in general have been through a lot of changes
in the past,is undergoing some as of the moment, and there's still more to come in the future.
Most Filipinos are becoming westernised for their eagerness to go abroad,
get a high-salary job there and marry a foreigner. :worry:
That's the sad reality of being a Filipino...being somewhat either shameful
or petrified of their very own identity, trying to hide it and pretend they
belong to the higher class of the human race. What a pity! :shy:
But no matter what happens, even if our country is currently confronting several
trials and hardships and although our incumbent president is facing a lot of
obstacles and many compatriots and fellow countrymen are trying to put her down,
I'll still remain a proud Filipino; a loyal, nationalistic and patriotic
citizen of the Pearl of the Orient in words,in thoughts and in deeds.

Hi, coucou!
:welcome: to JCNET!
I know what you mean. Most Filipinos (of 100% Pinoy blood) are like that.
When they realize you are half-blooded, they'll feel a bit awkward towards you.
Maybe it's because you still have 50% foreign ancestry and that is enough
to make them think you are purely a foreigner as well. It's sort of a discrimination.
Even famous half-Pinays like Cindy Kurleto (she's half-Filipina, half-Austrian)
went through that phase of dual race isolation. Well I'm not like that.
In fact, I'm even more eager to know a half-Pinoy because of his/her dual ancestry.
It interests me a lot how a person can have a fusion of different cultures.
Anyway, have you introduced yourself in our home thread yet?
Oh it's locked so I started a new one. It's here (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20907). :D
