i played football as a frosh, i din't like it, it wasn't as fun as basketball or anything else i've played...to me...being cramped up in that hella ugly uniform while runnin under the murderous sun aiming for a goal wasn't very er...cool

all the plays and positions complicate things more than they really should be, although basketball has some of that attached as well, its not anywhere near the complexity, dumbass complexity of football

i chose hockey and it's not cuz i'm canadian. :laughing: but after sitting through the super bowl game for an assignment i had to do back in gr. 6, i've never ever watched football again. well, i didn't watch any before that either. i dunno... the sport just doesn't interest me. but hockey, i like the action of the game. seems more interesting than football. and when i was in middle and high school, i liked playing floor hockey in gym class. :happy:

i don't know how to skate, otherwise i would probably think hockey is fun. i don't like watching either one though. i like playing football but i can't throw very far...but i throw in spirals! even better than my guy friends...i was so happy and proud of myself when i learned ^ ^

I play Junior high Football this year and last year. Last year we placed 2nd in the district but only 3rd this year.

I don't know why anyone, that has played football or has played it the way it should be played, would think it's not a great sport. I do like other sports (basketball, soccer, etc.) but football takes so much. There is so much technique involved. Even the Line (most important position) has to do more than smash bodies with the other team. Sometimes it may look stupid but there is SO much involved if you play organized football that you wouldn't understand from watching or hearing about it. Football is almost like fighting a battle, or playing chess, except the only way your move can result positively is if you play it right. If you watch a football game, it seems like they are just doing the same thing over and over again, but it takes so much strategy in the plays to make it work, and so much brain. It's about quick reactions, movements, intelligence, speed, strength, and more. So you actually have to play to understand football.

As for the name "football." i really don't know why it's called that. Something to do with the way football was played before it became what it is now.

i played as a kid all the time. there wasnt any girl leuges at the time though, so i was the only girl on an all boy team for like 2 years~! we won the chapionship every year, but my first one. i was pretty good as long as i wanst in net. if i was goalie i would skate around the net.....make snow angles.........i had a verry small attention span ,so i needed to be in the action all the time. my first goal ever was in my own net too. i was pretty little though...so it was just cute.

i love it soooo much i even named my kitten after my fave player. Domi. (Tie Domi of the TML)

we learned how to:
- power skate
- stop. withought slamming into the boards
- stick handle
- do crossovers and other skating tecnuiques

It is worth while arguing wheather football or hockey is better. It's a legitamate debate. For those who have never played football, it takes a trememdous amount of skill and concerntration, not to mention physical strength and stamina. Hockey.....where's the strategy and brain power involved?

Oh, and football is not "fake". It is very real, and way of life in certain parts of America. I.e. Nebraska and Texas.

Why isn't basketball on the list? I would definitely have voted for that!!! Football and hockey are a little to violent for my taste. And another reason why i don't like (watching) football that much is that its too discontinuous for my liking....I guess I like sports that FLOW (like basketball) where the action doesn't stop every 10 seconds. I think skating's really cool though, and I do like watching hockey if I can look beyond the violent clashes. :bleh: Heh, but i guess for just skating ability i should be watching figure skating. which i do.... :)

It seems like this is most of the world's perception of football and of the people who enjoy it. I prefer football because this is the sport that I grew up playing and watching (notice how I did not put down another country for liking hockey nor call hockey a dumb and boring sport). Of course you can call football a dumb and boring sport, but to me that just says to me that you have never played it before, you lack the physical capabilities to play it, you don't understand the sport, or you might just not like it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that MOST people who chose hockey did so because of the previous reasons. Of course I understand that some of you out there enjoy playing hockey, but how many of you actually made a decision after playing both sports or getting to know both of them? Just something for most of you who responded to this to post to think about.

Damn, this is such a difficult question!!! Ok, I love both of these sports, cause for one thing, I like pushing and screaming and did I mention pushing my opponents around? Exactly, I love football, its such a good way to excercise and stay in shape as well as releasing the "demons" in an active way too.

But on the other hand, I so love hockey too because I like to ice skate AND hockey you get to push and punk people around too AND you get a hockey stick to whack things for fun!!!!

you have to try both before u can choose. when i was in hockey it was fun, especially when i broke this kids teeth, but it gets boring after a while. its not that exciting, the puck goes back and forth and they barely ever make the goal.

I used to do figure skating too a long time ago.. &where I am there was always hockey practice after public skating. Unfortunately, I never got to see much action because I had stuff to do. My brother used to take hockey lessons though. :happy: I liked watching them skate up and down the rink with the puck.

I must say I'll pick football over hockey anyday. Football is just so fun to watch and play. To tell the truth, I like college football more than I like the NFL. This is because I think it is more exciting to see college players play and the excitement in upsets. The NFL is okay but the rivalry games and bowl games are just so interesting to miss. Plus, I go to Ohio State University and we are all about the Buckeyes.

Totally agree with you. Having a Big Ten school as #1 in the nation is so great. Just hope we can remain undefeated and beat Michigan. Must say, I really love Illinois Fighting Illini basketball. Have to give props to the team for being so good. But rememeber, our schools basketball teams play on Jan. 6 and we won't go down without a fight especially when we have Greg Oden.

I guess you just dont' understand the game, that's why. Football is the most intensive, strategic, and emotional games I've seen. I hated football before I started college, it's because I didn't even understand the games. Then in college, my good buddies explained everything to me, and attending a few games knocks my head straight about it. I even played intramural games and got a good feeling of what's it kinda like. Trust me man, it's a very strategically involved game. And it's really fun to watch; hence, the 90,000+ fans to watch each game my team plays. I'm in LSU, by the way.

I think you're comment about "rarely use your feet" refers to kicking the balls like soccer. Well, I beg to differ again, in football, you can run or pass and catch to get yards. And if both teams are physically and skillfully equal, it's actually hard to move inches on that football field. It's the team with firm feet who will put a score on the board. You've never played football, you dont' know about using feet.

After what I've gone through to learn to watch the football games, I wouldn't say I hate hockey anymore. Just because I dont' understand Hockey games doesn't make me ignorant enough to call it dumb or stupid. I just haven't gotten to it, yet.

That's just me, and I speak straight from my mind.

Sometimes the referee blows the whistle every couple of minutes, which annoys me. In hockey there’s also strategy too. But there’s more action in it I think. Even when both teams are equally matched.
