View Full Version : Canadians: What is there to do in your Province?
We have a similar topic but its for US only...and there is alot of fun places in Canada to go to. For instance, in BC there`s Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium, the Vancouver Zoo and more stuff that I can`t remember right now....
So tell us about your province(or major city) so if we ever visit there, we`ll know all the good places to go instead of wasting our time trying to figure out which way the top of the map is.... (hehe i`ve had bad experience with maps.)

ok...Ah i live in toronto.
THere's the CN tower, niagara falls near by (a casino too). Be sure to visit the entartainment district at night, there's the Lion King playing, Mamma Mia,some really posh clubs and bars in that area too. If you're for the intellectual side, there's a variety of museums, the Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, Bata Shoe Museum. The ROM is really neat, there's some really old chinese artifacts mummies etc.
plenty to do here...

i live in toronto and hallucination66 has already mentioned a whole bunch of stuff. :) i must say that the view from the viewing deck on top of the CN Tower is amazing! niagara falls is beautiful in the winter in my opinion, wit the icicles and whatnot.
you can also watch games at the SkyeDome. if you wanna check out the harbour scenery, you can go on a small boat cruise. you can go to the Metro Toronto Zoo or the African Lion Safari if you're an animal lover. you can go to Paramount Canada's Wonderland!! lots of cool rollercoasters and rides there. :D there's also a water park called Wild Water Kingdom. on the intellectual side, there's also the Ontario Science Centre. plenty of interesting and funky exhibits.

I'm Canadian. I live in an igloo, and I caught my dinner - a narwall - last night with my pet polar bear! Oh, and I wore my red toque last night too! No doubt aboot it!

erm. no. Yeah, I'm in Toronto and you can basically do all the same things as you can do in the States.... just a tad smaller, but it's not noticable. Very multicultural. Love it here.

In my province(ontario) most people..
immigrate...hahaha and it's very true, I think it's true with BC as well, but I'm not too familiar with life in BC. I think Ontario er, mainly Toronto and Ottawa receives more immgrants than most provinces in Canada, but I'm only speaking from what I see living here all my life ^-^;;
and yes yes once you immgrate here, there is plenty of leisurely things too do as well once you get settled ^-^
....I sound like an ad of some sort promoting immigration.."WELCOME TO CANADA!..eh?".. :bleh:

i think wacky pretty much got all the major tourist places. there's also centre island which is just beautiful. not to mention a lot of the beach areas near the lakes. i always see tour buses with asian tourists at my university (u of t), probably because of the historical buildings. kengiston market is a great place to go for cheap, original and some vintage clothing.
the best thing to do, drive up and down yonge st. it's the longest street in toronto (perhaps even in ontario) it's cool, you go from the downtown core, up to the middle of nowhere. it's great to see the transitions. oh, and the unionville village located at main st and hwy 7. it has some nice historic villages, houses and pubs. there's also pioneer village.... lots of horses, goats and sheep there.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta.
In Edmonton...we have the huge West Edmonton Mall. Great for shopping, going to the waterpark and other activities.
In Alberta we have Banff which is a nice touristy town, right by the rockies so it has a nice view. Great for camping. There's Lake Louise for skiing in the winter, Jasper is also good for skiing. Lots of camping going on in Alberta. Great places to visit!

Welp I'm in Ontario and I live in Ottawa. It's a nice place to stay for a night or two, highly recommended that you don't consider anymore than 2 since you'll bore yourself out. Since it's the capital, you can check out the screnery, the downtown market area is a nice place to visit for food, bars, clubs on a Friday or Saturday night. Chinatown here isn't THAT big but it does have quite a few restaurants.
Toronto is the place to visit if you want to go to Ontario. Pacific Mall - Asianized mall w/ everything you can find from chinese media, electronics, anime, etc. Nice looking place, great places to eat.
That's all I know of.

I live in Toronto :)
(well at least most of the time, rest of the time I'm in Kansas...)
There really is a whole lot you can do in Ontario
If you like shopping...Been said and I won't repeat it
If you like sports...Air Canada Center, Hockey Hall of Fame, SkyDome, Maple Leaf Center (though this is mostly closed now), Toronto has a team for every sport so that pretty much covers it
If you like scenery... take a cruise on the lake and see some islands or go to one of the great parks that is around here
If you like music...Tons of clubs. Mostly in Toronto, and you only have to be 19 to get in :D Or if you prefer the classical. jazz or other types of music. There's the symphony orchastra, jazz festival every year...
Ontario is great!
Anyone else in TO and go to U of T?
I live in Vancouver. But anyways, skiing is a must in my opinion. Another one I can think of Gas Town to see the Steam Clock.
It seems like I'm the only one from Montreal, Quebec
Well there's a small chinatown in which there's a bubble tea restaurant where I work. There's the old-port where a lot of activities take place and during winter it turns into a huge skating rink.and of course we have LaRonde, the popular theme park on the island Ste-Hélène, as well as the biosphère. what's fun about Montreal is the richness of cultures, because 50% of the population are immigrants lol. Most of the people are binlingual : french/english. There's not enough chinese people though, so Jay would probably never come in my city for a concert......

Hm..in Vancouver, you could visit Playland in the summer like fruitee said. If you want to shop, I prefer downtown Robson and Pacfic Centre rather than Metrotown. If you're into nature, check out Stanley Park and Van Deusen Garden. The Chinatown is dirty, but has some historical attractions.

I live in Calgary too. ^^ There are definately the Rockies for camping and hiking in the summer, and skiing and other winter sports in the winter. In the summer, there's the Stampede, like you said Hanzo. We have other things, but they're historical junk, like Heritage Park. Ohh...we also have Calaway Park (theme park), and Spruce Meadows (horse jumping thing). We have a small Chinatown, and a Chinese cultural centre. The dim sum is cheap. :D We have Canada Olympic Park for winter sports. Calgary hosted the Winter Olympics '88! That's about it, I think.

dude. Calgary has a lot of things to do.
Chinook Centre. TD square ('secret mall'). Market Mall. Sunridge Mall. Southcentre.
That's like...so many malls to hang out at.
There's a lot of bars. Good restaurants, especially in Chinatown.
Westhills for shopping. Westside / Village Square / Southland for Leisure centres.
If there's a KTV in Chinatown I would hang out there EVERYDAY like a loitering gang member.
But alas.
We're so close to the parks too! Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper...
But I guess if you're underage there isn't super much to do, still...love the place you're in.

i am disappointed by those donuts. they weren't as delicous as i expected. *cry*market looks really nice now, with the new expansion and things.
i love camping though. there's a lot of little hiking trails and tiny beautiful places that nobody goes to, but there's always new places to go in the parks since they're so big! i love the energy in banff.

British Columbia...."the best place on earth" as they say.
since i live in the core of BC i only know what there is to do in Vancouver. the same stuff everyone else is saying: Stanley Park, PNE, Metrotown (2nd largest mall in Canada =D), umm Gastown is very nice... and did anyone mention you get to watch the VANCOUVER CANUCKS? wooooot. go canucks! too bad there isn't any hockey going on nowadays at GM Place.

oo I didn't know that lol but BC is also very beautiful  .. Our province's slogan is "Beautiful British Columbia" :wink2:
Oh we also have Krispy Kreme's too but it's like quite far from where I live
We also have a lot of golf parks, bubble tea places, Chinese supermarkets.. and Vancouver is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics :-)
I live in T-DOT!!! More specifically in Scarborough... Just to turn the discussion around... Where do all the Asians go to??? Pacific Mall, Market Village, First Markham Place, Times Square, Metro Square... Basically if you go to one of these major malls, there are several smaller plazas nearby... Plenty of eats, fun times in T.O!!!

BC is beautiful, i say so too. Edmonton is quite boring. The only thing nice about it is it's a great "TOWN" to live in. We have the biggest mall in the world, if you like that. Other than that it's just the usual. Just good coffee shops, bars, karaokes. restaurants, stuff like that. The bubble tea here isn't bad.

i live in canada and i gotta say, you really gotta live here to enjoy it but sometimes it can also get really boring. i've been to all the big tourist sites and i don't think it really represents canada well. i live in thornhill which is the worst city ever but its like a 5 minute ride to richmondhill (LOTS OF ASIANS) or toronto and its near scarborough. theres a lot of shopping in toronto that a lot of tourists never go to like the boutiques. and then theres the usual chill spots for the average canadian in my area like all ages clubs, FOOD SPOTS so much food places lol

i live in toronto and i cant tell u how much i love this city.
pipi had already mentioned some nice places for asians to visit like pacific mall and metro square. unfortunately i live somewhere wit more italians, but i always visit scarborough. it seems like most ppl listed tourist attractions for toronto (or ontario) such as niagara falls and casino. but the thing that is the best about Toronto is the vibe there is up here. when i was in the states at some malls or just walked around, places just seemd kinda deserted and dead. but downtown Toronto always has ppl and has the warm and fun feel to it. i personally love chinatown on the riverdale district, eveyone just seems like family. also t.o. is very multicultural so u can be who u are without worrying bout other ppl's opinions.
buuuut, if ur really touristy i guess paramount Canada's wonderland fun. (i just sound bored cuz ive beeen there many times)
personally the best would just be hanging downtown from day to night.

I live in Richmond, BC and it's a really nice place to live. If you're a teenager, you probably like to shop. And Robson Street in Vancouver has many many good brand name stores to shop at. Also in downtown Vancouver, there's Pacific Center which is another place to shop. Not only are these good places to shop, but Robson has a bunch of award winning restaurants. Deeelicious.
For sightseeing, there's Grouse Mountain, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and Whistler Moutain.
Also Vancouver has many nice clubs to dance at. And if you're into gambling, River Rock is a hot casino, located in Richmond.

It's all close together..
Now for the rest of Quebec? lots of skiing mountains.. lots of lakes and stuff.. meh lol B-O-R-I-N-G.. btw all the asians (besides some like me) speak French.. All new fobs are forced into French schools by Quebec law.

Well in Montreal theres.. the old port in Montreal with a lot of old buildings, horses, etc. lol There's the downtown nightlife if you're into clubs (there are lots).. and.. meh La Ronde Six Flags theme park.. lol
Okay, yeah, you're right, there's an Old Port in Montreal, which is a "Romantic" place for couples to go, cool summer breeze, the waves from the river below. There's a lot of Night Clubs there, it's true, I never went in one of them, but my sis clubs regularly. Yeah, there's the SixFlags: La Ronde Theme Park, there's a lot of rides and roller coasters, fun if you're into extreme rides, boring if you're scared. Life in Montreal is disturbing, you must speak in french, mostly in schools. Unlike me, in my school, I have some Cantonese Friends I could speak with, hella cool =D. It sucks, because it's my last year in High School and it's going to be hella hard. If you wanna know how french looks like, try to speak viet if you're american native. And a lot of people talk shit here, if you do something they hate, you're hated for life, you'll get jacked, beaten up, spit on, chewed up, lots of stuff, if you don't respect people here, you're done. Think twice if you think Montrealers are farmers and french people eating french toast each day, you'll get shot before any of that is going to get out of your mouth. I just hate how Montrealers are, they're just like, you mess with me, I get my click. Geez, if I had a shotgun... lol... nevermind.
Now for the rest of Quebec? lots of skiing mountains.. lots of lakes and stuff.. meh lol B-O-R-I-N-G.. btw all the asians (besides some like me) speak French.
Yeah, it's boring, there's some Skiing Mountains during Winter, and during Summer, there's water aquatic parks, that's fun now. What's better than looking at girls at your age or older with nice looking bikinis, you tell me. Yeah, all the asians speak french over here, and some asians don't even speak in english. There's a lot of FOBs here, unlike me, I'm CBC (Canadian Born Chinese).
Zhaohe
09-04-2006, 05:12 AM

Mississauga,Ontario. About 15-30 mins from Toronto depending on traffic.
There's one major mall here , Square one is the 2nd or 1st biggest mall in Ontario, I'm not entirely sure. Most people here go to Pacific Mall anyways. There's a few go karting places here though. ^^
Often times, chinese celebrities visit Wonderland the theme park . :) So i keep my fingers crossed for jay to come one day. xD

Toronto's the place to be!
Ever heard of Vaughn Mills Mall? It's the newest mall in Ontario, and the biggest!
It's a little north of Toronto, and while you're there, you can also check out Canada's Wonderland! It's our amusment park, kinda like Six Flags but a lot smaller :3
First Markham Place has also been mentioned before, I go there a lot with my family to eat, the foodcourt's been voted the best in Toronto!

vaughn mills is actually pretty empty. it's just that the stores in there are huge, almost like outlet stores, and its in vaughn, north of toronto
We got some amusement parks like CNE but wonderland is probably more popular among th e people
as for first markham place, thats the place to be if you like chillin and eating. There are lots of restaurants there and a lot of them are pretty good. They range from japanese food, vietnamese food, hk style food, etc etc. Lots of choice
But the most popular is probably pacific mall which is like a precursor to first markham place, almost eh same but less restaurants and more stores including a karaoke lounge!!

2. skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing - Here is BC is pretty much famous for the snow.
3. bike riding or hiking - it may sound corny and everthing, but a nice hike in the woods actually feels pretty nice.

BC is an awesome place to live, we've got forests, mountains, and ocean! But I'm not sure about the attractions... I live in Vancouver, and when relatives come over we never have a place for them to visit except Stanley Park! But Whistler is good for skiing/snowboarding if you know how to...

I live pretty close to Toronto- about an hour drive from Hamilton.
China Town in Mississauga and Toronto is pretty fun.. lots of restaurants- Viet, Chinese, dim sum ones, many kinds. You can also get lots of imported items- I love to get my Sanrio stuff there. ^^
As many people mentioned before, Wonderland the amusement park is really cool! So many awesome rides- hoping to go back there this summer. :D
Ontario Place in Toronto is pretty cool too- lotsa water rides.
OH OH! There are also many beautiful waterfalls here in Hamilton. It's always nice to go during the summer time. ^^ I recommend going to Spencer Gorge-Webster’s Falls- you can actually go under the falls!
I use to live in Nova Scotia too.. in Dartmouth for most of the time, right across the bridge from Halifax.
There's Peggy's Cove- a pretty long drive but it's really nice there.

I live near Toronto, Ontario. It is a very nice city. It is very large, but seems to feel homier than many of the large US cities. I think it is because of the multiculturalism that exists here in Toronto. You can drive/walk around and visit little Italy, Greektown, Cabbagetown, Chinatown...etc. You can enjoy the feel and tastes of all different cultures. Festivals such as Caribana really promote this feeling of peaceful meshing of cultures. Here everyone is Canadian, no matter what race/colour/religion they may be.
I also really like the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) which is held in Toronto the last two weeks of August every year.
Canada is a pretty good place to live, and I think it is a nice place for visitors to come also!

I think there is more to do in Canada just because it seems most things in America are overtaken by pointless rules and advertisements. I'm visiting Toronto soon so I guess I'll find out for sure : )

have i replied in here before........?
i cant quite remember..
but anyway. i live in British Columbia and there is so much to do here!
1. there are many asians here. BC is very multicultural. you'll find chinatown here as well as highly asian-populated cities, such as Richmond, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Fraser Heights... Finding asian stuff is pretty easy here and i love that, cuz its like merging the east and the west
2. metrotown, one of the largest shopping malls in canada, is located in BC. it has great places for eating, shopping, and entertainment.
3. Downtown Vancouver is absolutely the most GORGEOUS place you'll ever find. especially at night. not only is it the busy part of the city, you can also see the oceans from there. Apart from the beautiful sights, there is also great shopping destinations, including many designer brands and high-class clothing and jewllery.
4. Stanley Park is one of the most amazing parks i've been to in my life. not only can you see the whole city of vancouver on the other side of the water, there are great forest trails to explore and the park is so big that there are roads made especially for cars to drive through. for tourism, Stanley Park offers great services, such as the horse-drawn trolleyes, buses, and information booths. moreover, it is very cultural. the park is set up so there are many "view points" to take pictures and site-see. one point has huuuge totem poles built. they are part of the aboriginal's culture and look really cool and majestic. also, the Vancouver Aquarium is located inside of stanley park. we've got many local sea creatures, as well as a collection of tropical ones. Recently, a new baby beluga whale was born, and there are also dolphin shows to watch. In Stanley Park, you get park, forest, water, view, tourism, entertainment, and eating - all in one!
5. Gas Town is part of Downtown Vancouver, but is very unique in that it is very old and very historic and cultural. nowadays, most of Gastown is modelled for tourism, but a lot of the original culture is still there. If you ever visit Gas Town, don't forget to dine at the Old Spaghetti Factory, a famous Vancouver restaurant with great history, and one of my own personal favourites. inside the restaurant, there is a true, authentic boxcar of an old train, and if you are lucky and there are enough spots, you can dine in there. The whole restaurant is decorated in a very unique style and has its own unique taste, but the food itself is absolutely amazing. If you're a pasta lover, the Old Spaghetti Factory is the place to go!
6. The capital city of BC, Victoria, is really pretty too. it is located on Vancouver Island, just a bit off from the mainland. Victoria is where BC's Parliament buildings are located, and i believe it was named after Queen Victoria. also, the famous Empress Hotel is located in Victoria. i've stayed there once - its amazing
7. OF COURSE... Whistler is THE place for snowboarders and skiiers. we are also the host for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Whistler is absolutely BEAUTIFUL beyond description, and one day up there just simply isn't enough! The mountains are gorgeous, offering a variety of rides for snowboarders and skiiers, from the beginner's hills to the Black Diamond. You can also check out the newly made Whistler Black Comb. If you're looking for a place to stay, Chateau Whistler is worth checking out. it is one of the best hotels in BC and is really nice. Whistler is also famous for its the village, called Whistler Village. it is a section of the mountain just for pedestrians, with many shops and stores, restaurants and eateries. The village looks adorable and is a great place for relaxing after riding the mountains. You can also meet many tourists there, like yourself, and mingle with people. There are great restaurants in the village (including the Old Spaghettie Factory! although the original one is the one in Gas Town) and also many stores, from expensive retail stores to cute souvenir shops. Whether you are just walking around, shopping there, or sporting on the mountains, Whistler gives a luxurious yet relaxing feel and is a place you will never forget.
8. last but not least........ the people!! like most the other canadian provinces, BC is famous for our friendly people :-) we are easy to talk to and very friendly. we'll make you feel at home right away
come to BC! :welcome: !!
