This came about as Jo and I were discussing 'peace' vs. 'later' when we say bye to people.
It seems in America slang develops in the West and move its way East.
I don't listen to rap music nor do I hang out with high school people so I dunno what the kids are saying these days.
One thing I know people notice about me even in the forums is that I say " y'all " alot.
That shouldn't be a surprise knowing I'm a Texan. I say it all the time and it sounds completely normal to me. So what are some of ya'll's slang terms or vernacular?
(vernacular n. The standard native language of a country or locality.)
common ones,
bad means rad
rad or radical, means awesome
bomb, ie. the bomb, means the man
the man, or the woman means the top dog, or the epitomy of coolness
screwed means fucked up
screw you therefore means...erm...u get the pnt
i forget other ones atm...a lot of them i think its too common everywhere n need no explanation
i learned a new word!
hm. i say later more than peace, but there's nothing i say especially. i cuss a lot, but i can keep it under control is certain situations. like if i wanted to, it comes naturally, i can cuss every other word and make it make sense. But i try not to :D

so mike, is that like, something you're proud of?

Fo shizzle my nizzle - for sure my african american brother.. lol! I love hearing this!
Phat - pretty hot and tempting (acronym)
Sick, Ill.. - Nice/Cool, etc. e.g. "That spike (volleyball), was sick" or, "those shoes are sick."
Kicks - Shoes
hehe.. I used to listen to a lot of R&B and hip hop, so I pickup on these things, especially at school.
And no, I don't use these terms at school when talking in real life.

I agree with Mike, i say later way more than peace and i cuss alot too...it just comes naturally to me now...my friends call me the cussing fiend but they do it more than me... :dry:
I know some like ballahz, thugz, iight and tight(tite) all that stuff....i think now were all getting used to how black people talk ( not to offend anyone)
iight stands for alright, okay, sure.
ballahz, thugz is someone cool i think...not quite sure about that one.
tight(tite) means cool, awesome. ex: dats tite man.
one me and my friends use more often is wuts uppppin mah chigga? lol i guess its more of an inside joke than an actual slang.
chink+Nigger=chigger
white+nigger=wigger
korean+nigger=kigger
jap doesnt count for this one because jigger sounds weird...basically if u want to sound cool u replace ``er`` with ``ah``
well thats all for now...

ballahz are the hardcore black bballers who play street ball...sry no NBA rules..anything goes (usually big buff guys...)
thugs are gangsters...but they are like the low level gangsters..they are the muscle that do the messy jobs...all brawns and no brains
another word if any of u know is "cuhz" ...careful how u sue that...that is what crypts call each other (crypt is one of the largest gangs in the US..their arch enemy are the bloods)..the bloods just call each other...blood... (ie if Karen was a blood...they would call her "Karen blood" )
thugs r like crip n blood wannabes, Alb u meant crip, not crypt =P
thugs describe most of those azn guys u see dressing in black n playin pool down at ur local loser county
wait, i dress in black n play pool, nevermind. some of them i meant.
ballahz just means ballers
like skatahz, or fukahs...wait,

wait a minute, I always thought the bloodz call each other 'cuz' because it's like cousin, which are your blood relatives, at least that's what one of my friends told me.
haha if some black people came in here and saw this they would be making fun of all us kiggers, jiggers, chiggers, whatevers.

thats what i thought about the bloods too....and plus...it made more sense to me...
i`d be seriously rotflmao if some black people did make fun of us.... :laughing:
if you're wearing a lot of blue and wonder into a bloods zone, or if you're wearing tons of red n wonder into a crip zone
you're dead meat
these gangs are sworn to their colors, if a member is seen on the street with anything of the opposing color, he'll get beatdown pretty fast n pretty bad
yup, this guy i know thinks the bloods are so cool. He wants to join them HA fat chance...he`s always wearing red like 24-7.
isnt there another gang called the KKK? i dont know much about them but i know there a big gang too...wait....i think this thread has turned into a chat about gangs thread.... :oops:
er
Ku Klux Klan is not really a gang

since Hitler right? I was never good with the history.
I've always never understood this fully, probably because I don't know much about Jews. But why is it that groups like the KKK dislike Jews and call them Satan's children?
And why were they persecuted during the holocaust?

actyally karen...the KKK has been around longer than that...they say they are the ghosts of dead confederate soldiers from the civil war...hence the white ghosts costumes...they have been around ever since blacks were freed from slavery
and im not sure about what the KKK feels about jews...they are famous for crimes against blacks..

A lot of people here sure seem to know a lot of "gang talk" I hope nobody here is a gang member :glug:
bah, i'm not proud of cussing, which is why i try to cut down on it.
There's a lot of people at dances at my school who crip. i do it sometimes for fun but if real crips see you cripping, you'll get shot so fast. (crip walking) but where i live, there's not a lot to worry about except dumbass Korean wanksta's that think they ballin'.

Just from browsing forums and visiting sites, I've noticed that people in the US like to use "hella" and "mad" as intensifers a lot.. like "you're hella funny" and "that's mad cute!". Do you guys normally talk like that?
OH and also complimentary comments "your site is dope" and "your site is tight".. stuff like that. Not very common here in Melbourne. In slang, "tight" has negative connotations.. it means stingey, or if you've done something bad to someone, you'd be called "tight".. I think the equivalent in Sydney is "slack". Just my observations ^_^

Do you guys in Cali have that mexican gang..something..13? su trese or something? or the latin kings?
haha this reminds me of 'Malibu's Most Wanted' that movie with Jamie Kennedy...fo shizzle my nizzle...

I don't remember much about the KKK but aren't they basically against everything THEY'RE not? They've existed ever since the 1800s in the south I think. Just talking about them pisses me off. The fact that they still exist pisses me off x1000!
Wouldn't it be so cool to go around and say "for sure my african american brother" instead of fo shizzle my nizzle?
person: yo man, check out my bling. it's the shizzle (or whatever the cool people say)
me: for sure my african american brother!!
HAHAHA. awesome. And I heard that only people on the west coast use "hella". my friend and I were talking about No Doubt's song "Hella Good" and she said her cousin living in NJ doesn't hear or use the world 'hella' at all. Of all the slang I use, "hella" is probably on the top of my list.
Malibu's Most Wanted is so funny. It's great, if you want to learn wanksta talk, watch that movie. lol. actually, don't try to act like them, it's so funny though.
"where'd you learn that?"
"Grand Theft Auto"
"Can i borrow it?"
"sure, do you have playstation?"
"i got game cast."
Surenos? the mexican gang
i kno some crips, but no bloods...figures...this is a crip area...all the crips i kno are filipinos, they have hella parties all the time, even on weekdays i'd get calls at 2AM but i wudn't answer
for the most part, they dun really go around beating ppl up, they live like normal kids, except without as much restrictions i guess...it'd surprise u tho...they are actually reeli cool ppl, as in nice.
but a friend of mine has a boyfriend in san diego, a crip, and he'd come here often to visit her n he'd have all these bruises n cuts..i guess its more violent up there Alb, be careful, dun get caught up too much in that business u hear?

sometimes me and my friends would talk in slang just for fun. yo yo yo howz mai homie doin'? we call it acting ghetto, but i guess thats the same as thug-ish hehe.
racism against blacks and the KKK (which is bascially extreme racism) stems mostly from the civil war in the U.S... antisemitism, racism towards jews stems from WWII when the nazis viewed jews as "untermensch" which means subhuman. the germans a.k.a aryans thought all other races were inferior which led to the holocaust
but where i live, there's not a lot to worry about except dumbass Korean wanksta's that think they ballin'.

tight = cool, sweet, sexy, etc
my favorite are the slang words for "drunk"
(blitzed, hammered, shlitzed, messed up, f*cked up, bombed, smashed, tipsy, stoned, etc)
so many slang words for "cool" too...
happenen, groovy, funky, sweet, tight, awesome, crazy, phat, and more

You can find definitions for most of the words people posted in this forum.
AZN
"a-sian"
1.) Shortened form of Asian.
2.) Today, commonly used by non-Asians to identify themselves as Asians. This can be contributed to the fact that most self-respecting Asians would not be caught dead doing some of the actions "AzN's" perform on the internet.

does anyone say "sweet" or "dang"/"dang it"?
i think "sweet" became popular after South Park came out. and i hear people say "dang" a lot in place of darn, damn, etc.
or use "hit me" as in "hit me with some of that stuff" meaning "give me some of that stuff"?
wacky: yeah me and my friends have this little handshake thing and everytime we do that we say hit me before so we know what were talking about...

I use odd words like yer, yar, awesome, groovy, kick ass and I think rocks my socks has started to find it's way in my vocabulary. Also have a habit of adding 'ness' and 'er' to my words like betterer or nonsensical things like that. Does that count as slang? O.o;;

This is an interesting topic.. Where I live (Vancouver) there's not a whole lot of slang (at least not at my school) but I do here a lot of people say 'Sweet' (mostly the guys though) and one of my guy friend always says 'Dope' online (like Yo, your Xanga is dope etc..).. and ... other common ones like Da Bomb, Wicked
Some other slang..
BBT (Bubble Tea)
Thingy Ma Bobber (Use when we don't know what the object is called..)
Is "Meh" slang? because if it is....its my every day vocab...its the word i use the most...but im not quite sure if it is slang or not.

I used to use "HELLA" a LOT. It originated in San Francisco and everyone made fun of us for it, but then look... LA started using it, even all the way up to Washington. So don't hate!!
Anyhow, I say, "dude" a lot. In high school we used to use more "black" words... but now that I'm not in school anymore people tell me I talk with a Californian accent. (Because I say, "Like," a lot).
But Americans in general say, "like" a lot... right? I wonder where it came from... the CLUELESS movie?
sawmui13
11-09-2003, 06:59 PM

YER! I noticed that after my mom told me. Has anyone ever listened to Britney or Hilary Duff talk? I swear, the say like and you know every other word. It's so annoying. >.<
And actually, I think slang's starting to die down where I'm at. Everyone's more prone to making up random words. 'Savvy?' was freakishly popular among the girls at my school when Pirates of the Carribean came out.

Is "Meh" slang? because if it is....its my every day vocab...its the word i use the most...but im not quite sure if it is slang or not.
I'm not sure where "Meh" came from, but I know it got popular after it was used on The Simpson's. (Lisa sitting on the couch to Marge, "I said 'Meh'. M-E-H, meh.") I use it a lot too, and it can be considered slang because it is a meaningless word that we attch a meaning to. And for those of you who don't know "Meh" = whatever.
I teach in a high school so I always hear new slang words all the time. Some of my favorites have been "slammin", "stellar", "foo", and "crazy" (as in "That's crazy cool, man.) I still enjoy the classics.
And "like" surfaced in the early 90's during the "Valley Girl" (that's by LA for you Canadians) explosion in pop culture. You remember "Saved By the Bell", "CLueless" and every show on Disney at the time. "Like" spread from the west coast. Tragically, Americans do use it a lot, especially young kids. For example....
"Like, yesterday I was like going to the mall, and like my mom called me. I was like, 'WTF does she want?' So like I answered the phone, and I was like, 'Yo, mom, like what do you want?' I swear, like no one elses parents are liek that crazy."

Well here's some slang that other people almost never used. Muckaluck, or yonk! I seem to get my slang from the simpsons. I use muckaluck when i just want to describe something dirty or something, and it doesn't have any real meaning, at least i think it doesn't. And yonk is whenever i take something from someone, or yonk in from them. Somebody out there must use yonk, i'm pretty sure. Anyone?

Smonkkey, you mean "yoink". Homer says this all the time in the Simpson's when he takes something. I use "yoink" sometimes, but only when I'm joking around with my friends and only as an exclamation. Like you said, I say it after I snatch something from someone.
True slang for taking something from someone (aka stealing) would be "gank", "snatch", "swipe", "heist", "lift", or "rip-off".

from my visit to the states last summer, i learned some 'slang' from my cousins in the eastcoast and from people i meet, like:
*mofo - hahah...was wondering what this meant for the longest time coz i keep coming across this word while in NY. i thought it was just a made up word that actually meant nothing. haha. good thing i didnt use it. :D
*jk - i assume this means 'just kidding'. my cousins keep saying this using a certain tone. cant describe how it sounds but it's kinda annoying.
* all those shizzle, nizzle, gizzle, fizzle whatever words that i hear from people trying to act cool. i really dont get how this shizzle nizzle system works, if there is one. not that i'd want to start talking like that. i only know that 'shizzle' means 'sure' and 'nizzle' is 'nigger' (right?). :?
:blush: personally, i use a lot of 'like'. hehe...maybe i get it from watching way too much american tv. :blush:

herrmzz....slang? they developed a whole language for it! remeber when everyone got all hyped up about nelly speaking "ebonics"? harr harr :dry:i thought that was kind of overrated because where i live, people tlk like that all the time. i,m not proud of it either. but other than that, words people use include:
~nikkuh/nikka-nigger=> used in place of the word "man" (i.e. nikkuh, please....)
~quarters/dimes/nickels=> describes how much weed you payed for (i.e. 10 dollars for a dime, 5 dollars for a nickel)
~glock=>a gun
~tims=>timberland shoes
~nikes=>refers to air force 1's
~cigg=> ciggarett, but i think everyone says that, rite?
that's all i can think of at the moment...that and people (including myself :blush:)cuss regularly...its a really bad habit but its hard to keep it under control :oops:

~glock=>a gun
glock is a gun manufacturer of mainly pistols and their guns are called "glock [insert model number here]" ...so it wouldnt really be slang for a gun...more or less its name -_-
cowboy
12-31-2003, 03:51 PM
JianDanAi is right, a glock is a make of a handgun. They were relatively cheap and easy to get during the inception of rap era (early 90's) that's how they made it into pop culture. But you could use any model in that way. Berretta, sig, etc. The common slang for a gun is "gat".
of course my fav has always been "Boom-Stick" from Ash in "Army of Darkness"
I've never heard of "gat."
But a lot of people that don't have knowledge about guns relate all kinds of guns with glocks.

ive heard of gat...but that's cuz im from the durty durty south like lil' flip...please tell me ya'll know who he is? i grew up in a pretty ghetto community, everyone in my hs called me gee-dawg. i guess they thought it was funny cuz my first name is Gee...but i ain't gonna front and act like i know slang. ima talk about the bada$$ chinese slang i learned instead:
1. cao or tsau (insert word here) - it means super, like cao ren is super man.

ohhhhhhhhh........here's one " hyphy"( HIGH-fee), the same way the South gets crunk, the Bay Area ( the Yay area of northern california) gets hyphy.
Etymology: Etymology: San Francisco Bay Area, shortened perhaps from English dialect "hyperactive"; other sources cite a combination of "hype" and "fly." Popularized by E-40 and the Federation's song "Hyphy" (2004); first known use on record by Keak Da Sneak in 1998 (on "Cool," from his LP Sneakacidle).
1 : dangerous and irrational: CRAZY;
2 : amusingly eccentric; without inhibition: GOOFY <"They were getting hyphy up in the club Saturday night.">
:whistle: hope that helped y'all on knowin more on 'hyphy'. :brows:
if u wanna know more, i saw a three lil pages article at mtv.

hmm,..speaking of dawg, in english class, my table had to create a lil dictionary of slangs, one of them was dawg, so one of my friend was wrting the word, as she said it, she wrote dawg as "dog" and we were like :crazy: , that aint the way to spell dawg, is d-a-w-g! :rolleyes:

I'm here to say that most of you guys are using the Right Slang correctly but you can't forget about the famous "Fo Sho" this means for sure! easy way to say Right! and for the Crip & Blood slang, that u guys were talking about, that was funny! Crypt like (coffin) lol! But Gangs are stupid! I wish my people would realize that we lost 15,000 people from ages 15 on up to gang violence in the last past 10 years! Its a tribal war and White America doesn't care anything about intervening to establish peace among these two tribes.
But Keep the Slang up! That was Hilarious! Peace! :wave:
Oh yeah is this really Jay's Site? If so cool...I have friends that listen to his Music!

sodas are refered to as a Cold Drink

crunk - GET IT CRUNK!!!! derived fromt he past tense of crank (as in to crank up the car) look at a little john video if you need a more graphic explination
ok....that is all for now...i will come back if this tread stays around

"badass"= cool, that's badass
"what it do"= hi, the new version of 'what's up', mike jones kinda introduced to the nation by one of his songs.
what i dont get is words that used to have negative or postive meaning into the opposite meaning like the word 'shit'

YER! I noticed that after my mom told me. Has anyone ever listened to Britney or Hilary Duff talk? I swear, the say like and you know every other word. It's so annoying. >.<
And actually, I think slang's starting to die down where I'm at. Everyone's more prone to making up random words. 'Savvy?' was freakishly popular among the girls at my school when Pirates of the Carribean came out.
i loved that word form captain Jack...savvy baby :):-)
all ya slang are hilarious :) i love to use slang in my vocabs..it's fun that way..i suppose some of them used in gang's stuff but let's not mess with that. i hope all of us in here are geek :) jk..book worm maybe.. i learn some slang form my friends and from movies..
like capis...as in understand used in mafia movie :) but it also used in comedy as well.
or barabing, baraboom i guess meaning over here, over there in italy
or late..as in later
og as in original gangster..that my nickname my friend call me though i am no og..just pretend to be 1 :)
that's all..peace :D

p.s. yay area = bay area xP

People where I live used to say "howdy" to each other, but now there's a bunch of people from up North, which are "yankees," so we say "hey" instead. We have this corn meal that we fix a certain way, and we call it "grits." If someone doesn't like grits, we call them a yankee.
It's weird that in the North, the word "tobaggon" means a sled, but in the South, it describes a woolen cap like the kind Jay wore in the MV for "Secret." My dad and I also call horse poop "horse douvers" (making fun of the French word for "appetizers").
The one phrase I really don't get is "same difference." People use it describe something that is the same. It doesn't really make any sense.

That term, "What's good?" doesn't seem to make sense to apply to "What's up?" What's good is more like asking what was good that happened to you lately. Compared to "what's up" is more like how are you doing.
Slang... Ugh, I hate it. It's like we're speaking in an improper English all of a sudden. Haha. Oh, and I like that "yadadamean" word. It sounds... cool. Well, I guess that's what slang was invented for; to sound cool among other people, I guess.

We have a bunch of Spanglish words (mix between English and Spanish):
direction = address
carpeta = carpet
troca = truck
We also stick random English in with Spanish and vice versa. The reasoning behind direction meaning address is because the Spanish word "direccion" means address, so sometimes even those of us whose first language is English get confused.
