View Full Version : US ppl: What is there to do in your state?

You know...I've never been to another state outside of Texas. I went to Lake Texoma once and Oklahoma was across the river, and I've also stopped over some states for overseas flights. But that's the closest I've been.
So if I was to visit your state, what's the best thing for me to see and do?
If you come to Texas, stay on the eastern side where the big cities are
(Dallas/Ft.Worth (come see me!) :excited: , Houston :yeah: , Austin :drunk: , San Antonio :cowboy: ).
There's nothing much in the west from what I can tell (El Paso  , Lubbock  , and Amarillo :glug: )
Houston is my favorite city, the traffic is hell, but so many fun places and LOTS OF ASIANS! The Asian restaurants have the best food.
I'm closer to Dallas though, hmm there's the big Galleria mall, but don't most big US cities have a 'Galleria' ? There's a Six Flags over Texas near me too...haven't been in ages though.
Anyways, Dallas stinks cuz SMU is there.

Seattle's Space Needle is always worth a visit during the night. You jet up in a windowed elevator up very high and get to see all the little city lights beneath your feet. Very pretty. =) Dinner up there sucks though and is a rip off, but the view is worth the stay.

I feel obligated to rply to this topic because I'm certain I'm the only person on jay-chou.net that is from (or in) Nebraska. I live in Lincoln, NEbraska. It is the capital city of Nebraska. Our claims to fame our the NE State Capital Building (one of the modern architecual wonders of the world), the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Football team (the Nebraska Cornhuskers), The National Museum of Roller Skating, and one of the world's longest, straitest roads (O Street.) In Lincoln you can do almost anything you could want to do, except go to the beach because we don't have any, or go skiing, because Nebraska is flat There is Restaurants from every nationality here, as well as centers for thearts, so it is a great place to live (little crime too.)
Nebraska itself lies directly in the middle of the USA. When people think Nebraska they usually think cowboys and indians still riding around (well, they are but they both have trucks now.) The weather is crazy here. Hotter than hell in the summer, and colder than Canada in the winter. The wind is always blowing. But the people are very friendly.
If you are looking for a "Pioneer Adventure" in AMerica Nebraska is the place because we have numerous pioneer attractions. They take you back to the days of the "Old West" if that's important to you. Omaha has the world's second largest zoo (second only to San Diego.) Nebraska is a state where there are bars in every town no matter how small. Here in Nebraska we consider a town big if it has more than 25,000 people. That means the word "small town" actually equals less than 2, 000. Kramer, Nebraska has 15 people but it still has a bar and a rodeo stadium (go figure). YOu get out west there isn;t much to do but drink and hunt, but in Linconl and Omaha there is all the fun you could want. IT is quite the bi-polar little state, but a great place to grow up.

cowboy >> so how would you describe the diversity in Omaha? Many Asians?
I see whites, asians, hispanics, blacks, middle easterns all the time. Our cities are really diverse.
There are a lot of PC Cafe's or just PC places around my house. Knotts Berry Farm is a pretty cool place to go. It's a theme park, close to my house. I don't know, but there isn't really much around my house, there are a lot of places to go but they're farther from where i live: Downtown, South Coast, the Block of Orange, etc.

South Coast? u mean South Coast plaza? near UCI?
haha just curious...cuz i go 2 UCI =P
Hmm okay fun things to do in California?? Well, as some people above mentioned, there's a lot of theme parks here...... Six Flags, Disneyland, California Adventure, Knotts Berry Farm, Lego Land, and then the water parks like Raging Waters, Hurricane Harbor...... I think Lego land is in California... ><
And like Mike said, there are tons of PC cafes around here. Unfortuanetly, that's where a lot of shooting has been going on too, and the majority of it done by asian gangs =/
To answer Karen's question, yes, there are a lot of gallerias in California. I'm not sure what's the biggest one here.. but most of the gallerias are huge and you can get almost anything you want in them.
And of course, Hollywood is in California :excited: It's always fun to drive through Hollywood.. even though I haven't been there for a while. But the Hollywood Bowl etc. is there, fun to go to, really pretty.
For movie theaters, the Arclight theater is pretty well known, it's called "the Dome theater"... and if you're ever around my area (Los Angeles) go stop by the Grove, it's a REAAAALLY nice theater, the screens are huge and the "lobby" where you buy your tickets looks like a hotel.
Hmm there's more but I'm forgetting.. I'll post more stuff you can do here when I remember.
Oh yeah, and there's a lot of diversity in California.

There's really a Lego Land? I thought that was made up! So is everything made of legos? Are the little trolleys that take you to places made up of legos too? (got that from the Simpsons)
So you guys in California, is it common to just see a celebrity walking down the street or driving around town?
hrm...alongside San Diego's attractions...Los Angelos offers
Six Flags Magic Mountain (awesome!!)
Knott's Berry Farm (cool!)
Universal Studios (nice.)
Disneyland California Adventures (well..)
Disney Land (erm...)
Raging Waters (disease farm)
that's the major ones
there are also a lot of nice restaurants with seaside view...i know of a lot of them in San Diego, but here in Santa Monica Beach and Balboa Beach there are GREAT restaurants...careful if you're allergic to seafood...you'll suffer as i had...you can also fish or what i do the most...just bike/blade there...its cool and refreshing
Catalina Island, where most elementary students go sometime...is a great snorkling place...i loved that island...its another world for me
near my house, in Orange County, there is the OJClub, or the pub for the underaged, the orange juice clubhouse...i went there once or twice
cashbox karaoke, sucky ones compared to Taiwan...but still...somewhere to relieve you of your vocal stress
and a variety of pubs, the ones i've went to are all relatively clean although they seldom check ID, i've heard of some er...more drastic ones though...i'm not going to try till i'm older.
AMC theaters are littered everywhere, literally...so that's not a problem.
Gameworks Studio in Ontario, City of Industry as well as many other places...for your gaming needs...and nearest to us the city of sin, Las Vegas.
PC realms, PC cafés, PC spaces are all around here as well, one in Diamond Plaza i'm sure of, i know of about four in Hacienda Heights region alone, and three in Whittier/La Habra, some in other places =P
LA has lots to do...but i still miss home...why is that.

yes there is a legoland in san diego but its REALLY kiddy...if ur over the age of 10...it wouldnt interest you =/
and it probably depends on where in CA u live...but i dont think its that common to see movie stars or celebrities...unless of course u are in beverly hills or something
Yeah, there really is a lego land! You can find out more about it at the website,
http://www.legoland.com
I haven't been there myself, but I've passed by it plenty of times when I'm going on long car trips to.. Las Vegas I think? Or was it Palm Springs? ^^;; *embarrassed* and plenty of my friends have gone there. Not EVERYTHING is made out of lego, but anything that can be probably is. The rides are all made out of lego, including the roller coasters, but of course it's all safe. It's actually pretty fascinating, seeing how they construct and use legos to make all the structures there. But I heard the rides weren't that great.
Do we see famous people walking around? It's not something you see everyday, but it's not rare either. For example there's a lot of child stars and whatnot that I bump into, or some of my friends do -- the son of the creator of Simpson's went to my school (but left this year), Mary Kate and Ashley go to the school that competes with our school in sports, Hailey Joel Osmond (sp?) has attended dances that my sister has gone to, they've met and talked and all that, Kevin Costner's son went to elementary school with me and my sister... I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging in any way, I'm just trying to explain how it is from my point of view, because I don't visit Hollywood frequently but I do come into contact with children of stars or child stars now and then..
Of course if you lived in Hollywood then you would see stars a lot. Like there are some pretty fancy restaurants out there that movie stars and popular singers go to every night. You might see them shopping at the Beverly Hills shopping center..... like I can't speak for myself because I haven't really met any of them, but I could list off a large number of people that have bumped into famous people before just walking around on the sidewalks.
Well yeah. I keep going on and on

I think i'm lucky. I live in sacramento, and i heard Arnold might move to my neighborhood. HAHa so i might get so see him. It will be interesting... But in sacramento, theres only the state fair here. And i have to drive for like 2 hrs to get anywhere interesting in california. I guess the people are good here. Theres mostly white people here, a little asian population, and the rest is the rest...
 Who would want to see Arnold walking down the street?
haha

11-07-2003, 05:00 AM
haha... i don't know. What if it was like in the simpsons, with mc bain. "everything is a sword, sword cane, sword monkey, sword pinapple, sword sword sharpener, sword pie... hey wheres the pie" looks at homer*
Thats what it would be like if he had a garage sale. I hope he doesn't talk to me... i'll just walk away...
 errr I think that just went over my head smonkkey, how is that relevant to Arnold?
Smonkkey

well you know how Mc Bain in the simpsons is suppose to be like arnold, cuz they are action starts, they both have their thick austrian or something accent... well anyways, yeah...

cowboy >> so how would you describe the diversity in Omaha? Many Asians?
I see whites, asians, hispanics, blacks, middle easterns all the time. Our cities are really diverse.
Omaha is the largest city int the state (only 380,000 people though). The diversity would be mostly white, but a good sized population of African-Americans, Latinos, and of course there are some Asians, but the most significant population of Asians in Nebraska is in Lincoln where I live. That is because the major University in the state is here so we get all the international studsents. Also Lincoln is a refugee center so we have a siignificant Vietamese and Laosian population here that came here during the 60's and 70's during and after the Vietnam War. There is also a significant Sudanese and middle eastern population here.
Generally speaking, compared to the rest of the country, Nebraska is not that "diverse." We are after all 88% white according to the census. HTere are certain counties in Nebraska with only 3 (count 'em three) "minorities".
Haha smonkkey ohh ok..... I'm not that "in" with the Simpsons, I've seen a few episodes here and there, but....... *nervous laughter*
but i get it now!!!
i would be kinda scared to see our govern..ator.. walking around on the streets near my house ^^;;
My rich friend lives near one of Arnold's houses and like a Kobe house.... i'm not sure, that's what i heard.
I've never been to LegoLand but i heard it's pretty stupid, i guess it's for little children.

=( Nor Cal is so boring compared to So Cal. We have nothing.. besides a lot of computer-related companies -___- We also have the world's worst theme park- Paramount's Great America. It's got like... 4 roller coasters.. 2 or 3 crappy water rides.. and a whole lot of nothing. haha. *sigh*

i would be kinda scared to see our govern..ator.. walking around on the streets near my house ^^;;
*cracks up* governator!?
Anyway, about our governator :D You know the movie End of Days? Well, if you've seen it, you'll see a church in it, and I think it blows up. They filmed that part of the movie at my old school, St. James (it's in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles). I never saw that movie. Maybe I should. After the filming, old Arny came to our school to come to talk to us. I think that he was trying to inspire us or something, because he kept telling us about his bodybuilding awards and stuff. I don't get him.
Anyway, I'm getting off-topic. LA is a fun place to live! It's near a bunch of Asian places, and lots of diversity. There are so many things to do; I think that most of them have been listed. You could always stay for 3 hours in a Rite-Aid... my friend and I did that once. It was really fun. And I think you could probably do this in any state! Rite-Aid is probably all over the place... I'm not sure though.

I haven't been to every part of Michigan and I'm actually not FROM Michigan. I'm Malaysian... but I've been living in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for more than four years. There really isn't much to do around here. This is a "college town" and that's why I'm here. I go to Western Michigan University. Most people I know get out of Kalamazoo as soon as they could during the weekends or holidays. They'd go to Chicago, which is 2-3 hours away. Detroit isn't much fun, unless you're into auto shows and stuffs. Lots of museums and automobile related stuffs in the suburbs/surrounding cities too. But many people are "scared" to go there because there are so many African Americans there and a lot of crimes happen there.
There are some nice beaches, lighthouses, and Lake Michigan, but then of course you can also find these things in other states. There's Holland where there are lots of tulips in spring and also Dutch influenced architectures. Nice place to take pix. There's also Frankenmuth, the German town and its German-influence architectures. And there's Michigan's Adventure Theme Park in Muskegon. And then there's also Mackinac Island, a famous tourist spot up north. It's a small island southeast of the Upper Peninsula and northeast of the Lower Peninsula.
That's all I could think of! There's really not much to do in Michigan. Like I've said, most people leave town (or state) during weekends or holidays. We'd go to Chicago, Indianapolis, Cedar Point in Ohio, and cities in the surrounding states.

11-07-2003, 06:40 AM
you guys come to chicago? to do what?? haha, i guess i'm supposed to answer that...hmmm
we've got alot of great museums and fun dorky stuff
museum of contemporary art
museum of science and industry
shedd aquarium
and we've got one of the few free zoos in the u.s. the lincoln park zoo is right in my schools neighborhood and aside from the lions and tigers and bears hehehe and penguins! there are paddle boats which are really fun.
so speaking of water theres the lovely chicago river. and by lovely..i mean its a dump. we dye it green for st.patricks day why? i don't know. but its green anyways. its so gross. but you can take boat rides on it at navy pier, which is another 'spot'
you can go shopping on the magnificent mile which is where the expensive brandname trendy shops are. or clark/belmont where the cool punk shops are.
aparently taking the L is unique cuz the "sub"way trains are actually elevated and weave around the buildings. don't they do that in other states? and we've got all this great architecture around the city.
as for the rest of illinois...if you like endless cornfields this is your state! hahaha
jayx8318x

sam, you forgot, you guys got Oprah! :excited:
hehe kidding (actually I've been watching her alot, some interesting stuff)
You guys dye the entire river green!
Won't that confuse the fishes and other wildlife?
I forgot to add, in Houston we have the Johnson Space Center, it's pretty boring if you're not into looking at old spacesuits and parts of shuttles. It would be cooler if they actually had gravity-less chambers for us to play in.

-- Harrison Hot Springs (I went there in the winter and there was like nothing there..)
-- Wax musuem in Victoria (pretty cool)

panda_shine, it's interesting to find out about the tourist attractions in your place, but isn't this thread supposed to be about places to visit in the US (United States) and not Canada? :) Anyhow, I've always wanted to go to Vancouver so I appreciate the information. :)
Hehehe...
Newcastle is a small city full of rich people (Or that's what everyone in renton thinks ;p)... But anyways... Not much to do here except bowling (boring)... Movies... To have fun... You have to drive to other places like belluvue square ($$$ Big, nice mall ;p) South Center... (Or the new stupid westfield name)... Seattle center (Where space needle is...) And there is alot of long drive skiing/snowboarding places ;p (I went to crystal last year! ;p Dunno this year...)
Oh yeah! And Wild Waves... Never been there during winter so... lol...

Well....I'm actually in NYC, and I guess I don't have to say much to promote one of the most vibrant cities in the world! :) Think Friends, SATC, Felicity etc....
BUT if u're a poor student who doesn't want to spend too much, there's lotsa free stuff u can take advantage of as well....
in summer, there're always free concerts in central park or lincoln center, and also there's usually a "broadway in bryant park" thing too, where the cast of certain musicals perform in public a couple of songs from their respective musicals...
and there are lotsa student rush tickets for broadway shows....granted, the seats may not be the best, but hey, you pay between $10-$25!!! I've watched Rent and 42nd Street in front row seats...!!! and i think paid $20 each!! Student Rush policy, haha - it lets me cover pretty much most of the musicals in town!!! I'm still waiting for the price of tics for the Producers to fall....and i'm trying to catch Aida while Toni Braxton's still starring in it...!! Hm...and there are lots of museums to visit too, and each usually has a day whereby its free admission. I THINK. Plus the random "famous" restaurants like Cafe Lalo (You've got Mail), and Tom's Restaurant (Seinfeld) and Serendipity....etc. Central Perk (Friends) doesn't exist though :bleh:
Visitors like to check out ground zero, so i've seen the place in various stages since sept 11....and there's always the free ferry from manhattan to staten island that lets u get a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty without paying a single cent :)
And tons of other things too....!!! (and i havent even gotten to the stuff u can do IF u're willing to spend the cash!!! :bleh: )

i really never traveled around the us. went to las vegas once.
anyways,
skimming thru the posts, most of the stuff you can do in california are spoken for. there's always venice beach. and the town centers, and malls every 5 miles. i like the amc at the block in orange.
my friend works at disney. that place it not so bad when there arent long lines. knotts is better if you like faster rides.
star sighting wise... my friend works at olive garden in cypress and he met kobe with his family.
my other friend works at disney's blue bayou, and we ate the same time as kristen dunst.
i guess its kinda normal. but its pretty surreal at the same time. you sorta cant believe that they go grocery shopping like you do.

Hey jayx8318x, i'm from dallas too :excited: . theres plenty of things to do in dallas,TX here are some of the places i have been to:

yeah, norcal is kinda boring compared to the other places, but it's still pretty fun...i mean...i think it's cool to live here! we have like one of the best malls like right across from each other and a new one just got built. valley fair has a ton of stores and it's all over the spectrum (kbtoys, hello kitty, electronics boutique, macy's, nordstrom, a&f, american eagle, forever 21, footlocker, tiffany's, louis vuitton, etc...and food! there's a cheesecake factory). and then right across is santana row which is basically a row of really expensive stores like gucci, burberry. then there's a new oakridge mall. anyway, enough about shopping (sorry, in the xmas spirit).
you could always go visit san francisco! golden gate bridge, fisherman's wharf, pier 31 (i think that's what it's called, i forget the number. you can go look at fishes and stuff. i went there a long time ago, so i don't really remember), chinatown, and union square! of course it can't beat NYC, but it's still a reallly pretty city at night. also berkeley - most radical place you'll ever be and a really good college too.
for azn stuff, there's cupertino village, milpitas square, and others. ooh, and ikea.
and i think the international terminal of SFO is really pretty. so if you're traveling to another country..i like SFO. when i went it was so spacious and tall.
i live in a pretty small town/suburb with i think 30,000 ppl. but it's really close to a lot of things. besides...everyone's studying anyway!
there are lots of farmer markets that happen like once a week and the produce is really good! i know they have 'em everywhere, but i sometimes still go with my mom to buy stuff.
____________________________________
i just got back from washington d.c. and i must say that i really like the east coast! the weather was pretty nice when i went, but ppl still dress really formal. it's just very classy and i think we were the only ones that wore sweatshirts. we walked around the nat'l mall (harhar, i thought it was an actual mall, but it's actually that area with all the monumnets). i'd already been there 2x before, but first time seeing all the monuments at night, so it was really pretty. and i also walked in the reflection pool! it's pretty cool!
we also went to georgetown. all these stores and restaurants and it was really nice. there were lotsa ppl out and stores we don't have in cali.
the only bad thing...fruit is really expensive! and vegetables too! i ordered something with bok choy with it and my friend ordered the same thing. if you combined our bok choys i think it would make one leaf. serious! they cut it so small.

In Connecticut, its pretty boring unless you have a car. You cant go anywhere like to the mall of the movies without a car. I usually stay home and do hw. My relatives have to drive me to places which is lame  . CT is a state thats has a big fuss over education. I do want to go to Yale if im accept it in one day. Yale is a great University. Well what is there more to say???? :wink2:

hmm, just notice nobody mentioned about NYC... well, let me start off then...........
there's so much to do here... i don't know where to begin.
okay, let's start off with:
- Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island landmark... you can't leave NYC without paying a visit there... it's the symbol of our freedom!
- Times Square... the best time to go there's at night... you can't believe how bright it is.
- American Musuem of Natural History... this place have many interesting exhibits... i still didn't get a chance to tour the whole museum ><
- Broadway... all the plays you can watch.
- Empire State Building... you should go all the way up and view the city!
- Chelsea's Pier... a gymnasium, indoor skating rink, batting cages, etc.
- Central Park... be careful not to go there at night by yourself... there's a skating rink, zoo, etc... have to go there and find out yourself cause i didn't go through the whole park.
- Rockefeller Center... you can see our world famous Christmas tree... the lighting begins on Dec 3 - Jan 6 i think... also skating available.
and for the shopping:
- Soho and Noho

I live in Wisconsin...an extremely boring town other than the college University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-M)...Since I haven't been outta this hell hole for quite a while now...I really don't know any 'cool' places around here...but there's suppose to be a lot of nice sight-seeing places and House on the Rock (basically a house built out of rocks)...and if all else fails Chicago, IL is just a SHORT 3 hour drive :) oh yea and for all you football fans... the GREEN BAY PACKERS...
To sum it all up:
-House on the Rocks
-UW-M
-Green Bay Packers
-Randall Stadium
-Sightseeing
-3 hours from Chicago, IL
-Lambeau Field

i've never done this before and this is definitely on my to-do list. so i was talking with my friend from SoCal and one of the things that she did was be a filler in the awards shows. the awards look better if the concert hall is packed and so she got to sit like in the third row with all these celebrities. but she doesn't appreciate sitting near all of these famous people. LA has a lot of tapings that the public can see and that would be fun to do too. Even though there's still stuff to do in norcal, LA has a lot more cooler stuff.

Well, like cici said, the Space Needle is well worth visiting because the view is awesome. Seattle Center (the area around the space needle) is pretty fun too because you can go to the amusement park place and go on all these rides and stuff. There's also the EMP (experience music project) which is at Seattle Center as well. That's a lot of fun because it's a big, funky building where you can go inside to learn about great musicians and play on all these instruments. There's also this place where you can 'record' albums and take an album cover picture with your 'band'.
Also, by Puget Sound (the piers), there are a lot of nice ocean views and you can go to the marina to rent boats or whatever. At the piers there is also the Seattle Aquarium if that is something that interests you because it's pretty cool in there.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the Science Center. That's a whole lot of fun because you can mess with all these gadgets and walk through all these exhibits. There's a butterfly room where you can go inside and there are all these butterflys all over the place. (watch your step xD)
There are more things to do in Seattle that I can't think of right now... -_-;;
I think the only thing we can boast about are the drive thru Starbucks lol. (wooo... Starbucks originated here! hahah)

- 34th Street (Macy's)
- Chinatown/Little Italy... you can find most souvenirs here.
- 5th Avenue... dedicated for rich ppl... all the top designer names you can find.
in addition to jessica's post, nyc is known for being an artistic city. there are a gazillion museums...whitney, guggenhiem, moma, metropolitian, cloisters, and many many independent galleries, esp around chelsea piers. something really cool is to walk the brooklyn bridge that connects manhattan and brooklyn.
you can also take a nyc tourist ride on designated buses that leave from 34th st, i think. they're pretty cheap and they bring you around to all the tourist spots. if u sit on the second level where it has an open roof, u can take pictures or record it.
there's the shea and yankee stadium for baseball fans but they're not in manhattan. near 34th street is madison square garden where there are lots of concerts or something. jacky cheung held a world tour concert there before in 1995!
riding the subway is a must! i don't believe there is any other transit system anywhere else that is this extensive. u can get basically anywhere using the subway and some of the stations like penn station are amazing to see and some even have art pieces set up there and many have artists or performers which is quite unique to nyc. there's always a performance on 14st union square and 34th street.
there's also lots of clubbing and bars. eating...u can basically eat any kind of food you can think of from every culture...almost.
for exact locations, you can purchase a zagot book where every year they list the places with their ratings, addresses, and prices. or u can just check them up online. :)
Well er... I don't know how I'm going to top off Jo with his San Diego and Los Angelos, but up here in Minnesota (friendliest neighbors to Canadians), we offer the best way to a shopping spree with our lovely Mall of America (you will find that the MOA offers a variety of stores, coffee/food places as well as entertainment).
Or if you are looking for a more down-to-earth and fast pace environment, visit our downtown area (haha, for best results, buy a U of M sweater and pass off as a college student... you'll be surprised as to what may happen!)
And if you're looking for diversity, head on down to Minneapolis (yah! come visit moi!) cause that will be where you find the ghetto folks, the country folks, the "pimps", the wannabes, the asain folks, latino folks, native american folks, white folks, the punks and almost anything you can imagine of. And lastly, if you head on out of Minnesota and up North (like the suburbs, Woodbury, Eden Parie and Champlin etc.), say hi to the people and their nice houses!!! ^_^

so i'm originally from so cal, but currently in nor cal cuz i go to berkeley (go bears!) anyway...so yes, so cal is all about los angeles and hollywood and all that...i lived in a middle-of-nowhere city so there wasn't much to do.
berkeley, on the other hand, is so much more interesting/exciting than inland empire so cal. the berkeley campus is really pretty (although there's construction going on pretty much everywhere) and if you're going to come visit, you definitely have to see the campanile (the clock tower) when it's lit up at night...it's amazing. as far as being a radical, liberal place, i don't know how much it really applies anymore...i guess it's something that died down as the times changed, but berkeley students are still eager to debate over anything and everything. no joke.
berkeley also has a marina which i've heard is awesome, and is incredibly close to san francisco, where bands like yellowcard are going to play soon!! i want to see them so badly, i just need to find someone to go with me...and of course san francisco wouldn't be the same without all of its landmarks and SHOPPING!! public transportation in the bay area makes it so easy for me to blow my money. i need to put a check on that.

im from lincoln nebraska also!!!! cowboy put a lot into what nebraska is all about and he pretty much got it all... we also have chimney rock and 3 or 4 different indian reservations!! which i think is cool partly cuz im a little (very little) native american! :bleh: hehe anyway but like cowboy says there really isnt a whole lot to do the farther west you go but some of the scenery can be quite beautiful. and yes we do have indoor plumbing!! that may sound really wierd but i know people who have been asked that!
 i checked this whole thread to see if anyone was from FL...but it seems as if i'm all alone ~_~"
anyways...lessee...whats there to do in FL. lets just state the obvious: BEACHES, im in Palm Beach...and i live really close to Juno Beach, and its one of the cleanest places around.
then DisneyWorld (i think its really boring now) but theres the waterpark, i forgot what its called, and a lot of people like it
Busch Gardens -- they have really good rollercoasters, and they have like a zoo-type thingie. i dont really remember because the last time i was there i was 7 years old...not old enough to get on any rides except for a stupid pony rollercoaster...but they had whtie tigers! and a buncha other cool animals. i think the animals are exciting for the kids, and then the rollercoasters just ROCK--from what i've heard
Islands of Adventure - most popular theme park at the moment. the rides are really great for adults and kids. theres a Dr. Seuss area for REALLY little kids. theres one good water ride (haha got SOAKED!!!) and the Hulk and the Dueling Dragons are the BEST ROLLERCOASTERS EVER. then the spiderman ride is really popular, its 3D, but its awesome, everyone likes that one (but a little girl cried because she was scared) the lines of course, are hectic though
Sea World -...well its Sea World, the only cool thing for me was getting soaked by the whale when it was really hot
other spots - theres a lot of studio places where u can sit and watch shows. like for little kids, they can visit Nickolodeon studios or something like that
FL is very boring otherwise though. my place is just brimming with old retired people. St. Augustine is supposed to be pretty cool, with all the historical stuff there...i cant think of anything else! Orlando is the place to go, all the theme parks and all that jazz....

Is it just beaches? Or are there really places worth visiting? And if I were to wanna catch a NBA match at one of the stadiums in LA, where is the place to go?

is it that bad in brooklyn?... there's a Chinatown there also right?... is it like the one in Manhattan?... and i have to agree with the conditions in Chinatown (only on specific streets)... so if you don't mind the smell, and the rude ppl pushing you around... come and visit!
ppl mostly shop here in Manhattan... esp. around Lower East side.

It's pretty hot down here in summer and there are many of Asian in my place, not as much as California or NYC though.

-More beaches: Cocoa Beach, Miami Beach, Hollywood Beach
-Natural forests in central FL
-for all you clubbers out there, Miami's "South Beach" has tons of clubs.

Down here in South Carolina, you can visit the biggest city, Charleston, population 263. They actually have a Wal-Mart there, which is pretty amazing. I live in the capital, Columbia. We've got Jake's General Store, Real Estate, and Law Enforcement... that's where all the cool kids hang out after we've been arrested for cow tipping.
...Anyways, South Carolina sucks -_- Charleston is the only city with anything close to redeeming...

There is nothing to do in GA. Don't come here.
Hmm...in Atlanta...everything to do costs money. Mall, movies, boring stuff.
Everyone I know is studying to get out of GA. The only comfort you have here is that your better off than the people in Alabama.
As for Asians, the only place they are substantial is Atl and thats probably because of family job relocations. Economy sucks now though.
LOTS of Koreans for some reason. Most Asians here are pretty Americanized though. People in general are nice but a little shallow. That's just a generalization though, I've met a few cool peeps .
Well... to conclude Georgia is the type of place where nothing really happens and just about everything is below average.

if u don't want to do ne of that u can go on a 2 hour drive to six flags or a 3 hour drive to wisconsin dells. wisconsin dells has a whole lot of waterparks. i heard its the unofficial waterpark capital of the us.

I live in Southwest Michigan. So there are really nice beaches by :) and the beaches in our downtown are the biggest attractions! Michigan is known for the fresh water Great Lakes and I agree, the lakes are wonderful!!
Every year near summer time, we have a Venetian festival that comes to town that brings lots of tourism down at the beach. Lots of tents are up and many of the local business set up their own tents selling any goods imagined!
Not only the festival, but every week, there's atleast one thing going on downtown. Including, a farmer's market every Saturday, Chalk on the Block for kids, Gus Macker tournements, etc.
My small town is sweet!

San Francisco! XD
actually...SF is a better tourist attraction for caucasians and stuff because there are big tourist attractions like Fisherman's Wharf that suck away all your money for brickabrack...They have good [or at least fun] restaurants there tho hehe, like the rainforest cafe, which has food that's pretty good in a rainforest setting, right down to the feeling of humidity XD

spork, i've always wanted to go to san francisco!! any good places to eat there, btw? i heard there's lots!
i'm here in the humid city of houston. not much to do here to be honest =/ you'd think that being the 4th largest city in the U.S, there'd be plenty to do. but not really. bleh.
well, i guess there's shopping at the galleria, which is our biggest mall and has all the stores everyone loves and the designer names too. there's hermann park, the zoo, and the museums in downtown, but thats more for little kids. the childrens museum is the coolest thing EVERRR :D
what i like to do is actually just drive around houston and the pretty neighborhoods. theres a LOT of them, and i'm fortunate and blessed to be living in one of the nicest neighborhoods around houston (= the only problem is that the traffic here is HORRIBLE so sometimes it sucks to drive, and thats pretty much the only way to get around town =/
good restaurants to eat at though (=
man, i'll hafta think of more interseting things to do around here.. hahaha

Not alot to do in Missouri... Not sure we're not known for alot besides the arch (St. Louis), and bbq (Kansas City). *sighs* not alot to do but I've heard of some from my friends. I've been to some because wasn't quite interested.
+ Kansas City Symphony = I liked it...I'd say it willingly I only went because it was like a field trip thing, but I enjoyed it! It was interesting.
+Worlds of Fun = It was okay... use to go there every year until it got boring...but it fun...I don't recommand the restaurants...they were so nasty.
+Oceans of Fun = can't say, never been there (Don't kno how to swim.)
+Science City = been there twice and it's great for kids...don't really learn alot of science stuff....and u get to ride a bicycle thing in the air
+Union Station = Whoa...I was there and it was awesome...can't remember what I did except there was this dinosaur! (the bones) and the restaurants are good.
+City Market = I go here at least once a month...my mother like every day. It's fantastic u really should go...a tip...parking is a thorn let me tell u so take the bus or walk or something so you have alot of free time to wonder rather than figuring out where the heck you parked.
+Carthage Marion days = it's like...not in KC more like 2 hours away....but it's this huge festival where for like a week the vietnamese community come and celebrate something...Originally it was suppose to be a catholic thing but 97% of those who gather aren't. The whole deal is like a camp out deal...with concerts and raves.
so there u go things to do that i can think off....enjoy....really if u go to KC try and see the Market...it's fun.

sigh.....i live in frikkin' virginia. so far i've only met 1 person from here. >.< i feel so alone. well theres nothing really exciting here. where i live (fairfax county) is really close to washington dc......and theres a chinatown. thats about it. this is a place for serious people. i envy those who live in like texas, cali, florida......and connecticut (cuz jay goes there for concerts T.T) it might take forever to drive up to CT. -_- so depressed.

I don't think Jay would come to CT for concerts again..I'm pretty sure it will be Atlantic City..or perhaps New York..It was really odd for him to have a concert there. I think it was just because there was a casino there too..which can attract more people.
VIRGINIA? the name already sounds boring to me. lol. I guess you get used to it after a while. Chinatown here is the worst Chinatown ever..you hardly get to even "walk" around since its only one street filled with restaurants..yea thats it. People here drive to PA to snow board or ski. Besides that, you can go hiking, mountain climbing..way near the mountains in the west side..cos we don't live near any mountains..lol. Oh, we also go to the beaches in the summer time. Of course there are clubs, pubs, bars, and etc..they are mostly located near Washington D.C. We have this Chinese/Vietnamese center called Eden. Shopping, watching movies, and eating out (we have a vareity..I like Thai food the best)
I don't think we have any internet cafes here...do we?
