Alright, I’ve seen a lot of people asking how to upload pictures. So, I’ve decided to write this up so that people can just be directed to this thread in the future.

This is a site where you can sign up for an account that gives you 1MB of free space. It allows hotlinking (direct-linking) for pictures. You may consider uploading your pictures here. For files that are not pictures, you can upload them to webpost.net as well. =)

This is the URL:
http://www.webpost.net

1. After you get to the web site, click on Login from the side menu.

2. Then click on the Get Your Free Web Site bar in the middle of the page.

3. Fill in all the information that’s asked of you. This part should be pretty straightforward. When you’re done, click on Sign Me Up.

This brings you to a page that says:
Your account, account name has been created.

4. Click on the login link from the following line to get to your web site:
login to your FREE account at any time to add, view, or change any information.

This brings you to the main menu.

5. Click on Upload (Send / Xfer) Files, which is the 6th option down.

6a. If you want to transfer a file from another web site, then insert the URL of that site.

6b. If you want to upload a file from you computer, then use the Browse button to locate the file on your computer. You can upload up to a maximum of 10 files at one time.

Below that section, you will see this:
Choose the directory to upload to:

You can click on the directory. But even if you don’t, the file(s) will be uploaded to that directory because it is the default (and only) directory.

7. When you’re done, scroll to the bottom and click on Upload Files.

This brings you to a page where you will find this at the top:
Successfully uploaded:

8. Click on the link View. A new window will pop up, which brings you to the directory where you uploaded the file(s).

9. Click on the file that you want to select for hotlinking. The file will appear and you will see the URL at the Address bar at the top of the browser. That will be the URL you would use for the URL of picture direct-linking function.

Usually, the URL would be like this:
http://www.webpost.net/first2lettersofaccountname/accountname/nameoffileuploaded

You can always upload more files later on or delete them using File Manager. Just look at the icons and you should be able to figure things out. If you have any questions, I will try my best to help.

A side note:

The following discovery has been made by one of our esteemed admins, lepencil. If you have a Geocities, Tripod, or Angelfire account, you can upload pictures the way you would normally upload files BUT first, you must change the regular .jpg or .gif extention into .txt format. This will allow you to hotlink (directly-link) images using the URL of picture function.

You may also wish to create an account at www.photobucket.com if you like to upload a lot of pics and use them for hotlinking purposes. I think the steps to sign up there are pretty straightforward. If anyone has any problems registering at photobucket.com, then please let me know via PM and I'll try my best to help.

EDIT:
If you wanna upload other things for direct-linking purposes, it's fine to use www.webpost.net as long as the file size remains within the 1MB limit. For example, midis, Word documents, etc. They can all be uploaded to your webpost.net account.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. =D

hey cashew. i was wondering does webpost.net let your upload midi files or mp3/musical files?
Coz i normally use geocitie, but it doesnt let you direct link midis and stuff like that, it doesnt even let you direct link pics!! ARGH, but thanks to the 'txt' discovery made by lepencil :)

yup, you can upload midi files on webpost.net since midis are usually quite small in size. probably not mp3s though unless they're under 1MB. you only have 1MB of free space per account at webpost.net.

Lisa, I don't think webpost.net offers free hosting anymore, so this guide has become obsolete. I've been using photobucket like most people, and found they're really good. I mean their whole point is to host pictures.

really, Karen? :? cuz i just signed up for an account a lil' while ago. and i just signed up for another one right now just to verify and it's working fine. so, i'm not sure why it hasn't been working for you. i've also been using photobucket.com cuz i've found that it's quite good. i think the only thing about photobucket is that you can't upload a pic that is over 250k because that's the size limit they've set for an individual pic.

i'll add a blurb in my first post on photobucket after that side note i made on geocities/tripod/angelfire. =)

Yeah. Webpost.net is working just fine for me~ ^^ But I'm also using photobucket at the same time. I prefer to use photobucket though since it's alot easier and their aren't so many links and buttons.

i think you guys know that photobucket now has a lower limit on storage space and bandwidth limits as well. a site that i've been using for some of my larger files (more than 250kb) is www.sitesled.com. you can upload pics, songs, documents, etc.

Why does this website keep making my log in again and again?
Why can't I see the pictures posted by members when I am already registered? And at where the pics are, they say ,"error: guests........." and they require me to register?

The reason you cant see other people's if you had read the error, is because the other person did not put their pictures into a public folder. As for signing in, thats how it is, just deal with it. Its not that hard to type in a username and pw now is it?
