Why does jay want 2 be a singer???

I was thinking 4 a while and notice tat Jay was so famous tat pple from many countries also support him ( and i mean MANY)... and something struck my mind... " Why does jay want 2 be a singer...??"

Is jay trying 2 make full use of his musical talents or wan 2 be famous or he can't refuse Jacky wu's offer or izit purely juz 4 fun???

i dun think jay become juz 2 be famous cuz he is still as humble as ever and keep saying he is not a superstar...

i think it's because he has a big interest in music and it's good that he didnt let his humble personality stand in the way of his dreams. Just listening to his music, u can tell he is not only talented but he shows passion in his work and that's all someone really needs to become a singer

I think because he's interested in making music. I think he never thought he would become a singer in the first place. Jacky Wu "discovered" him, and now he's a singer. He still says his singing isn't good, because making music is his real talent. With his musical talents, he makes his own style of music and wants to share it with everyone. With his own writen lyrics and music he wants to share his thoughts, and emotions with everyone.
I think Jay doesn't really care about his singing, he makes music, and hopes the people will like it. He wishes he'll become a composer one day. Hope for him his dream will come true :happy:

I remember watching an interview somewhere in which Jay said that the songs from his first album were songs that were rejected by other singers. He wrote those songs for them but they either didn't like the songs or they just didn't think they'd be popular songs. I guess they were wrong! So what I'm trying to say is that Jay wants to share his music with the world in any way that he could. And he definitely has confidence in his music. That was why he decided to use all those rejected songs in his first album because he believed in himself.

When Jay was discovered by Jacky Wu, he was discovered because of his composing talent, not his voice. So he signed with Jacky and started to compose songs for other artists, earning only a little. The first album "Jay" was all the songs he wrote to other artist that they rejected, so he decided that he would sing them himself and sell it as an album. The only reason he became an artist is first just to promote the songs that other artists didnt want. Out of everyone's suprise, we all liked Jay's songs!!! So that's why he has second, third and fourth album!!!
A also think they he said b4 that he didnt really wanna be a singer, but a backstage composer... and if he wasnt a composer/singer, he would teach kids piano... So what ever he does will be surrounded by music~

hmmm... that's an interesting question Jet. but, i'm sure all singers in the world decide to be a singer cuz they love it, and can't think of anything else they'd rather be, but sing, and share wth the world their talents. Jay sure is no exception! with all his fans, we sure can hear more of his amazing songs in years to come =)

WOw thanx guys!! I do not know that Jay's 1st album was based on all those songs rejected by artists!!! This is a really suprising news for me (consider im a big fan of Jay :wink2: ) Gosh, Im really proud of Jay!!! His first album was amazing!!! I agree with xjaychoux..you can tell that Jay has natural musical talent, and lucky for us, Jacky Wu discovered that he had singing capabilities also! I think Jay's got a very nice voice, even though he doesn't think it's good enough. It's very distinctive and he doesn't sound feminine, unlike some other male singers..*cough cough* F4! *ahem*..but yeah anything to do with music makes Jay happy..and that makes us happy!

i dont consider jay a singer, he is not a very good vocalist, his range is very limited...but he IS a great musician, composer and producer. he even said it in his interview, he never want to win an award for best male vocal or something...

Perhaps because Jay is so shy he feels like he can convey himself through music and that's why he's so into what he does, making music. From his songs you can tell he puts a lot of effort into it and sings them with emotion. And he's sure good at what he does.

i don't get it? if you don't consider jay a singer, what do you consider a singer to be? i always thought singers were people who could sing well. jay definitely can sing well. his singing, in my opinion, has more feeling in it than any other singer. his voice sounds so innocent in some songs, and can sound really strong in his rap songs. being able to manage a sweet innocent voice is something that makes him stand out to me. and i disagree with his limited range. he can go low in rap and very high in some songs. he does alot better than some hk singers.

Surely it sounds nice, but it's not unique~ Everybody could sing like Jay, but not everyone could sing like YanZi for example (jst any random artist on the top of my head)...

Jay wanted to be a singer cause he wanted to get rich, come to MN and bribe the government to allow same sex marriage and then use a dowry to ask my hand in marriage (basically bribe my parents too) and then we go and adopt pretty kids and he buys me a nice car. maybe jay decided to become a singer because he wanted to convey each song exactly the way he wanted. he can sing the emotion in the right places, sing falsetto, sing quick and upbeat, or any other way to match the feel of the melody and lyrics. if he became only a composer or songwriter, he can only write the melody/lyrics and cannot control what kind of feeling the singer puts in the song. for example, a singer might sing too draggy for an upbeat song or sing too loud and strong for a piano part. well, thats just what i think.

also, like that opinion article that jakinni post, maybe jay wants to put emphasis on his music. other singers that might pronounce the words too clearly will pull the focus off the melody and onto the artist's voice. maybe it was jay's master plan all along. :happy: mwahahaha. :D

i think the sole reason jay chose the path of a singer is his passion for music. period. he has it all: the composing talent, the songwriting talent, and the voice talent.. there's only one career he can prove all this. that is becoming a music artist. and i'm happy he took it. :happy:

I guess Jay was expanding his talents. He is good in composing songs. To get credit and to be better known singing his own songs would go a long way. He's very passionate in making music and would like to share it to different kinds of people. Jay just needed a little push by Jacky. I'm confident that Jay didn't originally start singing because he suddenly realized that he had a talent for it. On the contrary, I think he's received some rough criticism by his peers and other artists of his singing style. However, as persistent as he is, Jay decides to defy their beliefs and make his style into an original style of music. He also realized he had a passion for writing songs and lyrics to them, all of which come from his feelings and emotions at the time. I think he's said somewhere that his music will always grow with him, which is a great way to think about it. coz hes good at music/composing/songwriting and he knows how to play the piano and is really good at it. i play the piano but i wish i was as good as jay. wen i watched "the ONE" concert(hk dvd) there was a clip when he was around 6 or 7 playing the piano and im like "crap how does he play that? im twice his age(wen he was 6/7) and i cant even do that!" hes really talented and he shud keep going on making music

I think it's because of his deep interest in music and the making of music and hopes to make them known or probably want to share his passion for music with us, the fans and hopes that we appreciate it.

I don't think he's out for money or fame because even though now he's kind of rich now, he doesn't even have a credit card with him or cash when he goes out. All his savings goes to his mom and i suppose they're untouchable unless something important.

Anyway i don't think being too famous is a good thing. One has to pay a price for everything and in exchange for fame, your privacy, time management and actions are being controlled and limited. Your health suffers too. I don't wish to lose those privilleges and i suppose jay didn't too in the beginning.

But in the end, i consider Jay a better composer that a singer.

Isn't that a obvious question?!! Because he found his talent in singing, writing and playing the piano!! Well...he played the piano since he was small..so he found that talent quite long ago. Anyway. I also think that he wants the world to discover his voice.
