Hi everyone!

I've been having a bit of a problem playing .rmvb files lately. Before, they would open in RealPlayer, but now when I try to open the file RealPlayer tells me it needs an update but it can never find one. I've tried downloading and installing RealAlternative, and a few months ago with RealAlternative GOM Player would play it fine, but now it keeps telling me that I need to download the RealAlternative codec and even after I install it it tells me the same thing.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Well, I use to have files like that, that tells me it need to download an update inorder to play it and it never actually finds one. I think it's just the file's either currpted, or just plain playing up. Don't think there's anything that can be done.

First try to play with VLC player, usually plays everything. of that doesnt work with VLC or RealPlayer than ur codec is corrupted. try to uninstall realplayer from the add/remove program list, and remove all of the program files along with it (c:/programs/realplayer) just delete that folder, and then download the newest version from realplayer.com and install.

VLC Player doesn't supprot .rmvb files.

I think sometimes files are just corrupted, or a codec problem. Even the Real Player can have errors for it's own file format, since the changes/converts might've messed up some parts of a file.

Another player to try the file on is Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/).

^ thanks for the replies!

I ended up reinstalling Real Player altogether and it's working again. Thanks for the suggestions!

You can actually play the file in Windows Media Player. Just right click the file and chose "open with" and then "choose program" and chose Windows Media Player. A window will appear saying that the file is not supported but just click ok anyway and the video will play
