mink = made in korea, a female singer from Korea that sings in Japanese and English. I've loved her past 2 full albums, her voice is amazingly soothing and sultry. This is the latest single released and of the 4 tracks, 3 of them are entirely in English!
Now her English isn't free of an accent, but you know how people talk about how Asian accents are the worst, well there's just something different about her accent that makes it more endearing than annoying, it almost sounds like it has a slight European tinge to it.
I'm writing this review because I posted this single here (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=21457). And I decided from now on if I upload an album I'll add a review for it.
On with the review. The one thing I love about her songs, other than her awesome vocals, is that the arrangement for the backup vocals are equally amazing! Just listen to Rescue Me, the backup is such ear candy. I personally liked the Japanese version of this song however, the English lyrics just don't flow well with the melody, it feels very choppy.
The title track Hold On to a Dream is a very slow beautiful ballad, it strangely reminds me of The Prayer (the one Celine Dion sung with Andrea Bocelli, for that Disney movie which escapes my memory). Something in the chorus at least reminds me of it. But just listen to how powerful her vocals are towards the end.
Let's Start From Here is a slightly faster ballad, it sort of has a cheery step beat to it. Which goes along with the meaning of the song - to start over. My only complaint is that she could have sounded a little happier singing it.
Secret Garden (Under The Stars Mix) a remix of a song from her previous single I think. I didn't like it at first, but it grows on you definitely. I can't hear what she's singing in the verses, but the chorus is really catchy! The only fast song on the album (obviously because it's a remix). "I love love love love love - I love love love love love I love love love you" haha I love the way that's sung towards the end, real cute.
Try to check out her full albums, they're worth it if you like this kind of music!
