SM is currently training a girl named Jang Ri In.
She will debut September, 9th 2006
She's Chinese and she was scouted from China.
She has been training for 4 years, she is now 17.
Jang Ri In's main interest point is that she is supposedly the official "2nd BoA".
SM THEMSELVES, has been labeling Jang Ri In as "the 2nd BoA".
now before BoA fans start saying that there could be no one as good as BoA, please remember this is only what SM Ent. are saying themselves as publicity.
Jang Ri In is tutored in different languages (like BoA), given vocal and dance lessons as well. her main market is going to be CHINA as well as Korea.

I saw her in another website or something, but it was really nice. At first i was mistaking her for Boa XD But mmm for my thoughts, i think she might be able to keep up with Boa, but then Boa has so much going on, and also has been known for so long.

But wow i thought she was korean always till i actually read the subtitle from the news that she was chinese XD

Chinese singer Chang Ri-in, who is managed by SM Entertainment, will debut in Korea next month on MBC TV’s “Show! Music Center.”

Chang was first introduced to SM Entertainment in 2003 through the agency’s Chinese office, and since then has received vocal training at the agency.

Both parents of the Sichuan-born singer are violinists. Despite her young age, Chang has a powerful and appealing voice. For her debut song, she will sing “Timeless,” an R&B duet song featuring Shiajunsu, a member of the boy-band TVXQ. Early next month, she will also release a single album.

A person from SM Entertainment said the agency aims to nurture Chang into a pan-Asian and world-renowned star.

not really if you count Hankyung from Super Junior...

I heard her duet with Xiah Junsu...and man was I IMPRESSED. She has a hell of a voice for a 16-17 year old and she sounded great with Junsu.

SM entertainment is a Korean record label.
they also train people in order to prepare to be a singer, model, actor.
they're really big, all the artists released by SM are almost guaranteed hits.

artists/groups who have come from SM: H.O.T., shinhwa(until they changed labels), BoA, Flytothesky(changed labels), S.E.S, Dbsg/tvxq, Kangta (solo).... a bunch of others MILK, Blackbeat and the list goes on

Sometimes I wish I could be a star just to get the amazing makeover. *miffed*

I hope she gets better songs though... in a sense more catchy ones that will get her teenage fans too. Her voice is pretty though. Not that I don't like Junsu's duet, but it's just very... hm. Well, I'll just have to see how it's going to be performed. :happy:

I can't wait to see the mv. I heard that Hankyung, Choi Siwon and another SM girl is going to act in it. It is almost like a mini-movie with hakyung being a cop who had his heart transfered to Siwon, the criminal. I haven't heard the song yet but it seems like SM will be giving her a lot of promotion.

Woah, SM is going all out to promote Jang Ri In :rolleyes: I realize that there's a trend for Koreans to use the seniors (the more popular seniors) to help to launch the career of a newbie ^^

Let's see -> BoA and The Trax helped Dong Bang Shin Gi, DBSG helped SuJu and now DBSG and SuJu are helping Jang Ri In ^^

yep lee yoon hee has been in almost.. ALL sm mvs.
of course because shes in SM too as a model/actress haha

LYH has been in 4 kangta m/vs, one of heejun's i think, 1 of flytotheskys, 1 of shinhwas, 1 of DBSG

i have neverrr heard her sing. did she sing for a drama or something?
i just think shes really naturally pretty so i like her a lot.

i'm really anxious for jang ri in's debut just because if shes an success this will change a lot of things! there could be more chinese singers in korea... it'll be really interesting

ah sorry hankyung is chinese... but... super junior has a lot of guys. the attention isn't focused on him.

this will be the FIRST chinese SOLO artist muahaha there.
an artist that is chinese that they are spending a lot of time to promote her etc etc.

I was a bit unhappy about the 'Chinese BoA' thing too...I found it really sad how the only way they could get her noticed was by making her the second somebody. Hopefully she'll be able to 'get a breath for herself' and break out of that. And 'get a breath' for all Chinese too!

I tend to pay a bit of attention to Hankyung because he sticks out as the foreigner in the group...and whenever I see him singing and dancing and stuff I'm always subconsciously rooting for him and subconsciously proud of him for showing that Chinese can sing and dance as long as they have the proper training.

Sofi, yeahhh. Agreed. Before this, SM was trying to export their Korean talents to China by forcing them to pick up the Chinese language (which a lot said is the most difficult language in the world). Now, probably SM is changing their strategy by importing talents from China and package it in Korea before exporting them to China :tongue:
^5! I tend to pay more attention to Hankyung too! And now that Jang Ri In is going to debut soon, I'm paying more attention to her too. Hehe, I'm biased. I admit it. ^^

Well well, Jang In Rin is really pretty from the first picture.. but the second picture shows that she's very thin.
The song 'Timeless' was great, I love her voice and of course Xiah's too.

I first though she was just another new Korean girl, but I was shocked when I knew she was a Chinese ><
It's amazing that she sounds almost exactly like a Korean.

thoughts on the song:

Junsu's Chinese pronounciation improved EXPONENTIALLY
I used to have a hard time hearing what he was singing, but he actually enounciates(sp?) pretty well now...the hints of the Korean accent is so cute

Jang Ri In actually doesn't sound as much like BoA in Chinese...I think maybe because it's her mother tongue she's more comfortable with letting her voice just go.

@May: they sound like things for sale >< that's actually pretty smart...it takes YEARS to pick up the Chinese language. I'll be first to agree that it's arguably THE hardest language in the world...I've been speaking two dialects of it for 18 years now and my dad still tells me I need to keep practicing or else I'll either a) lose it or b) sound white (which to him is just as bad) :(

oo so that's her name in korean. i only went by her chinese name.
well i heard her "timeless" song and she has such A GREAT VOICE. the song with xiah is sung so pretty.
I can't wait to see the full version mv; only saw about 2min of it and i lovin it. hopefully in her 1st album there'll be a violin solo from her. can't wait to hear more about her.

wow she is super cute! and i like how she's not going for the sexy look, but more for the tasteful classy look (which i'm sure wont be around for long)

I watched the performance earlier (actually, risked being late because I insisted on watching it before I left the house) and I am very impressed with her debut. Yes she went off-key a few times, but it IS her first performance after all and poor girl she must have been so nervous. This was great for a first shot.

I was all fangirly the entire time...hasn't happened in awhile.

@greenpea Yeah I know I was waiting to see that too...it was actually the note I was most concerned about because it was so high. She hit it pretty well, but we didn't get to see it. Maybe the Inkigayo people will be smarter and show that tomorrow.

I can't wait until she can do a performance that will melt me into nothingness.

SIGH, my prelims are tomorrow (so suppose to be mugging) but i just HAVE to type this!

i think while its a little better than the first perf, its still a little... weird? not up to expectation? or maybe she's still nervous/inexperienced?

"Y" sounds very alicia keys, very soul/RnB to me. somehow it just doesnt suit the SM image. and so far, her two songs are slow. i wonder when we will get to see her dance perfs?

on a side note: junsu can sing really really well. i remember thinking that on the first perf, while jang riin had some glitches, his sounded completely like CD version. and have anyone noticed the sun min and hyesung pair?

that picture is definitely her. the features doesnt change, just that make up and hair do wonders. :)
after re-reading what i wrote, it seems very critical of me. dont get me wrong, i dont dislike her. in fact i think i will support her....!

Mysterious singer Zhang Li Yin mystically enters Take 7 after having only debuted for over ten days, and has become an object of suspicion for industry watchers and audiences.

if you guys are newbies to korean music, a few years ago SM entertainment (boa, dbsg, jri's company) got into some trouble.
they were PAYING shows and people who worked on the shows, to put THEIR singers on the show instead of others.
ever wonder why SM artists appear on shows 24/7?
well thats why and i think its mostly legit now.
for that, a lot of companies went under inspection as well
and ever since then Lee Soo Man (producer, CEO of SM ent.) has gone into hiding.

he was back in korea on sm's 10 anniversary (is it 10th i dunno, i maybe just inventing a fact here) early this year. XD i'm very sure he was there.

anyway, i'm here to express my disappointment with jang ri in's live perf. T_T i understand that the very first music core perf might be because she was nervous. the inkigayo perf was an improvement but the most recent inkigayo perf was rather disappointing. she missed a lot of notes and sang like an amateur. (well she is an amateur so to speak...but...) i'm very concerned about it since korean netizens tend to be very overly critical about such things. I think that is probably the onset of the rumour above.

though i'd like to contest that news. even if jang ri in is very new in the business, the recent korean scene doesn't have much competition recently. and haven't they considered the fact that junsu is part of the single? Junsu, being a part of dbsg, can draw a crowd. Moreover, this could be the reason why the single is the talk of the town nowadays and it's part of the Take 7. if i'm not mistaken, i think the mutizen song is the best single for the week. something to that effect, in which online polls and album sales are taken into consideration.

Super Junior's U took a few weeks to get the mutizen song off Inkigayo. So it is very surprising that a one week old Ri In took home the prize. nonetheless, i think my argument above can somehow suffice. =P

Zhang Li Yin signed only to SBS & MBC

In the "DICON 2006 Entertainment Industry International Conference" held in Seoul on the 18th, Lee Soo Man, director of SM Entertainment, gave a one-hour talk in the section "The Strategy to Boost Earnings in the Entertainment Industry", with his topic being "The Present and Future of Korean Entertainment".

According to Lee Soo Man, the first Korean wave exported the best of Korean products, including H.O.T., BoA, the movie "Swiri", the drama serial "Dae Jang Geum". The second Korean wave concentrated on joint projects with other countries, including KangTa&Vanness, Super Junior, and the movies "Battle of Wits" (Super Junior's Shiwon acts in this) and "The Promise". Korea is now at the second stage of the Korean wave, and will be moving into the third Korean wave, the representative of which is Zhang Li Yin, a Chinese singer who is debuting in Korea.

Currently, HanKyung (from Super Junior) and Zhang Li Yin both carry out activities while holding E-6 (entertainment industry) passports. Foreign artistes carrying out promotional activities have limitations in terms of location and other factors. HanKyung's passport only allows him to work under SBS and KBS, while Zhang Li Yin's allows her to work only with SBS and MBC.

I still agree with meli on her live perf. even though she's new to debut (@jay ella4ever) the performance was, in my opinion, below average. i watched her debut. then her SBS performance. And it's hard for me to differentiate because her flaws in the performance are the same in both. And to put it bluntly, she was horridly shouting "Timeless" in the last few seconds in each. I really hope she improves, as her live perfs don't do her voice justice.

Oh and guys, remember when DBSK won the 2005 MNet daesang? SM happen to be sponsors of the MNet channel. Dwell on that thought, and then the rumours that were mentioned above. :rolleyes:

i think it does look like her, the eyes are still kinda small, tall nose.
its just she got bangs, hair nice and straight (seems like her natural hair is wavy/curly), nice professional make up haha

I saw that old picture too. Yeah it's her. Hair and make-up can do miracles.

I just watched the video. They did it a bit like Lee So Young's Grace and Secret, where the story gets filled in as it goes along. I really like this version. I think a lot of Junsu fans will be screaming because there are a lot of shots where it looks like they are touching and Jang Ri In's head is almost on his shoulders. The cinematography isn't bad either.

Her song 'Timeless' is really good and her voice sound really strong and powerful in there. But I watched a few of her live performances, and her voice tends to break in the last few seconds when she does the crazy belting part. It could be due to nerves, but I think those live perfs don't do her voice justice.

I think with more work on controlling and strengthening her voice, she could grow up to be one of Korea's best singer.

But anyway, I think her voice is really unique and special. It's not often in the Korean market, or even the Asian market, you hear such a strong voice like hers.

I didn't really like the song when I first heard it, but then again I didn't have the patience to listen to the whole thing. But then I finally listened to the single and I really ended up liking it ALOT. Her voice has such awesome potential. I like it alot better than BoA's even. It's like she's got more soul/r&b vibes in her voice than BoA who has a more Pop voice.

But, is it just me or do her live performances look a little suspect? I only watched on youtube so maybe the quality is what's making it look suspicious. But sometimes it seems like she sings some parts, but for more "difficult" parts they turn off her mic and she'll lipsync. Especially the 2nd performance, I swear both their parts sounded exactly like the recorded version. And I was so annoyed with the cameraman, there were NO closeups of JRI whenever she hit those high notes. *raises brow* I'm not doubting her talent though, it's just kinda weird.

Still...granted she's new, I can't wait to hear the album.

yeah, I also think they cut off her microphone at some parts(mostly the high/long notes). and her recording label , SM entertainment, has been known to have performances where the whole thing is lipsynched.

but yeah, what everyone else said, she's got a lot of potential with that voice. They/SMent just have to help her bring it out(and stop cutting off the mic)

hmmm...finally...after almost a month of not hearing her...

I'm actually a bit surprised that she still isn't able to control that voice. It's a great voice, but if you can't make it work to your advantage it doesn't do any good...
Is it me or is Junsu a bit off standard too?

the more I look at her, the more I'm convinced that she didn't do anything to her eyes (which is a good thing...I think they're great.) However...that nose is awfully straight...

^ heres the story i'll put it in spoilers

han kyung- guy who gets killed
shi won- guy who was stabbed
yeon hee - girl

okay so first of all all three of them are childhood friends, but i'm pretty sure you can figure that out without subs. The villain guy (i think he has this grudge against shiwon), switches out the daggers in the long sword to make it a real one. Then during the opera, han kyung stabs shiwon. When they realized that shiwon was stabbed and everyone things hankyung did it on purpose, yeon hee takes him and runs. Then shiwon wakes up and goes to find han kyung and confront him about why he got stabbed, but he sees han with yeon hee and he gets more angry ( i assume won likes hee). In the middle of the fight between han and won the villain guy goes and tries to shot won, but han blocks. Won tries to fight the villain guy, in the end, han shoots the villain and dies.

okay after writing all that out, I don't think i made any sense at all. Also, I'm not sure if you're asking why Han Kyung kill Shi Won, or why the villain guy wanted to killl Shi Won. For all i know, no one knows why he tried to kill Shi Won.
