Taking Karen and littlefishie's suggestion, there's going to be something new at the debate forums. We're going to debate, argue, discuss, and throw around general ideas about a certain fictional work such as a book, drama, or a movie.

So this month's topic is Harry Potter!
And in order to bring the debate into a more focused discussion, we're going to talk about canon pairings.

Okay... I guess I'll start this off...

My One True Pairing is Harry/Hermione.

Ever since Book 1, I've felt that if the two of them had to end up with someone, it'd be each other simply because they have such a strong relationship. They seem to understand each other better than anyone else, and the two of them make an awesome pair.

While Book Six has lowered my hopes, I still believe because I can't see Ron and Hermione as a permanent couple. The "tension" between the two just doesn't cut it for me... Love requires more than that.

Oh, and here's one of the best H/Hr fanfics I've ever read. It's set after Book Six.

Well.. i'll go for Ron-Hermione. There is too much hints given in Book 6.. from Ron getting jealous of Krum to Hermione getting jealous of Lavender (when she starts snogging Ron..) i think there is a high possibility they will be together.. i don't know if they will last.. but one thing is, i think they will start going out together.. maybe at Bill-Fleur wedding?

As for Harry, he wants to break-up with Ginny because he likes her so much, that he doesn't want Ginny to be hurt in the end.. especially he will be facing Voldemort ultimately.. and he might not survive.. but i don't think Ginny is the sort that will ditch harry because of that.. well, so, i think they will still carry on..

Okay, I'm still stuck on Harry and Hermoine! No matter how much JK Rowling denys it...isn't it cute to think that those two will be together? It's obvious they need each other....I mean, Harry wouldn't be Harry without the help of Hermoine. And sure Harry has liked Cho and Ginny...but in the end he'll realize that it's Hermoine and no one else. It HAS to end this way. And Hermoine and Ron? How weird....I think their relationship will go somewhere for awhile, but then the two will realize that in the end it's better to be friends.

*also, side note that in the movie the two actors look so nice together, I know it has nothing to do with anything...but what a coinkidink, right? hehehe

Anyway, for the last book I'm not so worried on the relationships, because that's what JK Rowling did in Half Blood Prince and I was way disappointed.

Draco and Hermione (by the way, Hermione's my fave character - helps that emma watson is really cute too, haha)

(i have to confess that this idea was planted in me by some random fan fic that i read sometime back.....and since then this concept has been somewhat ingrained in me. of course, in that fan-fic Draco was a poor little rich boy, intelligent and good-hearted deep down inside, just trapped in his family's evilness)

anyways, i think this concept has some merit...

1) Ron is too "nice" and goofy for Hermione. She's the headstrong, outspoken, extremely intelligent sort of girl who will totally overwhelm Ron. The impression I get from Ron is that he's still pretty immature, and has many insecurities.
Don't think he's the type who can deal with a gf who's smarter, sharper than he is.


2) Harry. Not a bad possibility, though the idea of Harry and Hermione seems a little incestous. I don't know, perhaps she's always been a good friend to him, and she seems to be the person he'd confide in for his love problems (say ginny or cho or something) instead of someone that he ends up with.

I guess on paper Harry and Hermione are the perfect match.
He's the strong hero, she's the brilliant mind that supports him whole-heartedly.
But it's too....conventional.
I like surprises.

3) Malfroy
I guess I like the idea that he's really a good guy deep down inside, and that circumstances have just forced him to be the arrogant, wicked person that he's been portrayed to be thus far.
But in HBP, it sort of insinuates that Draco is somewhat forced by Voldemort and his supporters to do evil, and really doesn't really mean to do what he has to do - kill Dumbledore. (by the way, i am convinced that dumbledore didn't die)
Like Dumbledore said to him, it's obvious that Draco didn't try very hard to kill him...

Draco's clearly a leader, and a character that makes waves....
I get the impression that he's intelligent too, and can match up to Hermione.

So yes, i'd go for Draco-Hermione.

i read the fan fics long time ago, so can't really remember the names of them already.
but they were "epics" - i.e. could have been a book in itself, and were pretty good.

Harry did have a love interest Giny, but I think Harry may die and I think that is why they broke things off :oops:

Most definitly. Ron and Hermione is a foreshadowed couple. They always are hanging out and such, it is just so obvious.

Wishfully thinking I thought Hermione and Harry, I always thought they worked but I guess as Hermione and Ron get together I can accept that too.

I have a feeling that Harry is not going to end up with anyone at the end of the series...if he does though, I'd hope for him to be with Hermione. It is kinda the most obvious/cliche pairing, but they've been through everything together; Hermione would be able to understand all of Harry's past, and I feel like they were meant to be together. Call me a hopeless romantic.

But that would be the most "obvious" (and maybe unexciting?) pairing, so maybe Rowling won't do that.

That leaves Ron kinda alone...hopefully if Harry and Hermione do end up together, he will meet someone in the last book =)

Harry and some other chick....none of the main characters so far coz they dont suit him. ....Ron and Hermions are gonna be together because fights are a sign a of a future relationship. as for Cho, i hope she finds someone really bad coz she's a PLAYER.....- don't like her AT ALL .....anyways....my views!

Ginny. i think ginny will somehow play a major part in book 7 in helping with the defeat of voldemort. yes, i believe that voldemort will be defeated eventually, because i doubt jkr will let evil triumph over good.

yes. there's concrete proof throughout books 1-6. and i also believe that they will both survive book 7 and get together. i don't think we'll be shown much of the future though i believe they'll get married lol.

probably Harry and Ginny. i don't really know why but there's something about this couple that really intrigues me. maybe it's because i feel happy for Ginny that she has finally gotten him after all these years. i actually kinda respect Ginny for her fiery pride and all. like though she's the youngest and smallest, she never lets anyone bully her. from what we've seen in COS when she was 'kidnapped', she has since matured into a fine and courageous young lady who isn't afraid of going through the mill. i'm proud of her.

okay, let me state that when i decided to do this Q&A thing i didn't read the whole list of questions, so i didn't expect every single one to be on possible pairings. personally, i don't really care about who's gonna end up with who, i just wanna see who will die, who will survive, who will pay their debt, who will sacrifice him/herself and who will get saved from the dark side (i'm praying for malfoy). that's the main point of the whole series isn't it? i think it's sad when i see fans all over the world flaming and cursing each other because of their different shippings.

i always thought sometimes odd couples can be a successful relationship, so with ron being funny and err..not so smart compared to the more serious and smart hermione, why cant they be girlfriend and boyfriend.
plus, like wendy said, ron was quite jealous when she went to the ball with that guy from another school. so i do think ron and hermione will end up together at the end. then they'll have wonderful childhood memories to tell their kids and grandkids.

though, didn't we learn anything from middle school that if a guy teases you, it means he likes you. well isnt that what ron has been doing so far?:angel:

however, it is possible that ron and hermione can find other suitable lovers who are more like their own personality than the opposite.

as for harry, i hope he'll find someone at the end. im thinking someone new like a girl who's almost as powerful as him from outside of school. but if he dont then it is okay.

I think Harry is most likely to end up with Ginny at the end...because although in the beginning, he loses his family, at the end, he gaines one (Ginny and the Weasleys).

Anyway, I always thought Hermione and Draca would make a good couple. It was influenced by some fanfic I read a while ago. I doubt they would actually end up together in the book, but they do look quite cute in the movie.

i always thought that it was DAMN obvious that he was going to end up with Hermione just because she has always been there for him and also that they've risked their lives together and that they're just gone through sooo much!!

It's quite obvious in the book that Harry's one true interest is Ginny. He was just too blind too see. :D Although I don't really like Ginny character, I think they would just end up together. Unless of course one of them will die. :wink2:

yup. That's what have been suggested in the books throughout the series. they have actually survived some disturbances along the way, which make them quite a strong couple.

Definitely Malfoy and Hermione. There is no evidence in the book of course, cos I don't think this pairing would ever happen. But it's just really cool if they do. My fave character is Malfoy or maybe it's just the way Tom Felton portray him.. and of course some fanfic that has totally hooked me more than the actual book. Seriously there's some really talented writer out there. Basically Malfoy is just perfect. Bad boy, troubled family, sarcastic and sinister, and just a hint of a nice boy behind it, hmmm..make you want to comfort him and be the one to turn him to the other side. :D

this was the fan fic i read long ago that convinced me that Draco and Hermione are the perfect pair.

it was really good too, too bad it wasn't completed back when i was reading it.
so i never really found out what happened in the end.
will download the pdfs and re-read the whole thing again when i'm free.

it's like after i read the draco trilogy, i couldn't bear reading any of those other short fan fics anymore.

and then harry started getting more and more tempermental in the actual books e.g. order of the phoneix so i actually preferred to maintain the draco-hermione idea in my head. :angel:

Hahaha.. My favourite of all the pairings is also Draco and Hermione!

I really think that it is the fan fictions that lead me to this pairing rather than anything else. A part of me just have to be convinced that a boy as beautiful as Draco can't be that bad... and he will be move by someone as smart and loving as Hermione.. haha

I have covered most stories of that pairing in www.fanfiction.com and I really find jmalfoy to be an excellent writer.

The only pity is she doesn't update often or a lot. There are some stories that I just can't find at the moment... If i ever find them, I'll post it up.

ah...i love the draco trilogy! but it's still kinda left unfinished. i think she only complete half the epilogue. i started reading it in 2003 but she just finally finished most of it this year.

hm...i think JK Rowling was planning on having everyone paired up, so Ron needed a little sister to go into that book. that way, Harry'll have a gf. If Harry pairs up with Hermione, who'd Ron be with? I mean, it's not like I actually like Hermione and Ron pairing up, but it definitely makes sense.

and my ideal pairing is Ginny and Draco. Just cuz reading Cassandra Claire really got me into that idea. and i find it hilarious. Ginny with her whole lust for bad boys...who's better than Draco Malfoy?

ahaha ... I have to agree ... but then ...
maybe I've read a little too many Draco Hermione pairing fanfictions to make a rational judgement. problem is, I don't see Draco as JK Rowling portrays him anymore ... but as this type of angsty but essentially good, rich, gorgeous boy that just needs the right girl to unlock his heart (if this sounds like korean soaps to you ... I'm sorry ... watch a little too many of those too ...) It's also how they're always antagonizing each other too ... the enemies theme (if you watch korean soaps, this should sound familiar too). But then ... after reading those fanfictions I have a REALLY overly romanticized vision of Draco so ...

and it'll NEVER work. no matter how much we fanfiction peeps would love it to happen, it never will, never shall, and never has ... -sigh-

for more realistic pairings, I think they're pretty much how JK Rowling sets them out at the end of the 6th book ... Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione, Lupus and what's her face ...Tonks I think ...

Harry's DEFINITELY going to die in the seventh book , so there's no point contemplating who ends up w/ him.

They are so cute together, both are brave and smart. I mean if Ron and Hermione were together, all they would ever do is FIGHT AND FIGHT AND ARGUE AND ARGUE. Why waste your time? While Hermione was sooo supportive to Harry in the fourth book. Even that old Skeeter beatle saw that Hermione and Harry were THE couple.

Yes it's very sad that the Harry Potter series are coming to an end.But it was a priceless & exciting series while it lasted.

I truly feel that Harry & Hermione are meant for eachother.Sometimes when it seems that they are drifting further away from one another.It maybe just that distance that will bring them together.

When they have dated & socialized with others & realised that these other people don't complete them as much as when they were together.

JK Rowling has been putting hints for Ron and Hermione since (I think) book three. It's always been there, I mean it's only gotten more obvious in the more recent books such as Hermione's jealousy when Ron and Lavender went out and Ron's jealousy of Victor Krum. And if I remember correctly, at Dumbledor's funeral, Hermione was leaning on Ron for support.

Snarry. <3 I've been completely influenced by fanfiction and the ranting of my friends. This pairing isn't without its inuendos, though cannonically speaking, it's probably impossible. Although, Snape DOES pay a lot of attention on Harry and Harry himself loses a lot of sleep thinkin about snape *nudge* xD

Ron & Hermione for the pairing :tongue: Maybe it's a little influence from the film versions of this story, but they seem to be the pair. like you know when you read stories/watch series and you feel there's this hint of connection between them?

I don't think Harry will be with anyone, since his goal is practically to defeat voldermort (and predicting a 'happy ending', i assume he does defeat him)

As the story goes..reaching fifth and sixth... I started to think that Harry will be alone... I got the feeling that maybe he'll die also... but I do think he deserve to e happy ...no matter with who...
Although I'm kind of rooting for him with Luna...she's cute... but I don't think it'll happen!

I hope so! At start I really thought the three of them were just loving each other in a NOT-ROMANTIC way... just friends and friends forever... then started the few hints of Ron and Hermione from book four... and just got more obvious and obivous...and i think it's nice! I must confess that i'm crazy for this couple... but won't say motives...cuz they're just personal opinions and the fact that J.K.R. put this matter (R/Hr) really slow and soft during the books helped me like it more and more...but definitely I like the three together!

Ron and Hermione actually.. I just thought maybe I'll read a kiss.... but don't think Harry will see it, after all this book is not about couple's love!! So I'll be content if in the end it'll be wirtten happily ever after... :happy:

I guess it's Harry/Luna then... hahah... I don't see evidence in the book..it's pretty obvious that Harry don't think of Luna in that way...but he really does like her... so this is enough for me hahaha I don't read much fanfics now...
