Definitely Lee Hom! I think he's very very talented and blessed with a very nice voice! Although the other listed singers have nice songs too, i think lee hom's songs can last longer. i dont get bored of the song as fast; thats similar to jay chou's ! =D

It's Wang Lee Hom and David Tao for me since the three of them have a lot of similarities in common.
Andy Lau, JJ Lin, Guang Liang, and Kangta are not those who I'll compare Jay with. It doesn't mean that they are not good. Just different in my opinion.
And I have no idea what Jerry Yan and Vic Chou are doing on the poll. Maybe they are good looking and all but I don't think they are good in music. Just enough to survive.
Maybe you can add another choice which is 'Others' so that people can vote and state what they think about it.

I vote JJ Lin! I love his style and believe that he deserves a lot of attention! His music is one of my fav. I think leehom is ok too. Others like Rain don't sing in same dilect so I think is hard to compare

For me it would be Wang Lee Hom, because they seem to both have a lot of talent and each of them each year are against each other in the music industry and then the instruments taht they play XD wow so yeah i think it would be wang lee hom for me

I say Wang Lee Hom, because their styles are somewhat similar. Wang Lee Hom has very strong vocals, IMO and his songwriting is great as well... there are a couple songs from him that I like, but I can't say I'm crazy about him... LOL but I do think he's just as good as Jay, just that some of his songs aren't my cup of tea... I do admit he sings better than Jay though, but Jay's songwriting in addition to his voice appeals to me more. David Tao would be second on the list to compare to Jay =P
JJ Lin is as talented as heck and I love him to death just as much as I love Jay... but his style is very different from Leehom & Jay, ranging from pop, traditional Chinese mixed with pop, etc... but he's a songwriting genius as well and a talented singer. I love him!
Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Kangta... LOL imo, don't deserve to be "up there" with Jay Chou... not half as talented... can't sing nor songwrite nor sing live very well...
Andy Lau... he's just on a league of his own lol, can't be compared to the younger generation... style is SO much more different than the singers today. He's better off being compared to being in his league, like Jacky Cheung (who Jay looks up to!), Aaron Kwok, Leon Lai...

Wow, I'm surprised to see Lee Hom leading in the polls xD which is not to say I don't like Lee Hom, I do, but my own personal rankings have always been Jay --> JJ --> Lee Hom XD I don't know, even though Lee Hom is creative, I still feel a lot of his music is too 'safe' sounding and not similiar to Jay's at all, because even though they both infuse Chinese and Western elements together in their music, Lee Hom has that Americanized feel, which is natural, since he is ABC, and there's nothing wrong with that, but Jay has never given me that feeling. I also don't think Lee Hom is 'quirky' or experimental enough, he's very creative, but I don't feel he's innovative, that he's taking enough risks in his music. Oh I do love him though ^^
I voted for JJ Lin, even though he and Jay are fairly different music-wise, the question is about who deserves to be compared to Jay, and JJ comes first to my mind.
At first I brushed JJ off as a gorgeous, if not effeminate, voice that sang a lot of ballads, but he drew me in with 'Jian Nian' and his 'Haven' album, then he really impressed me with his 'Bian Hao 89757' album. He was so experimental and 'loose' in that album, songs like 'Dao' and 'Ming Tian' just gave a totally different feeling from his previous work, that kind of feeling of 'innovation' just spilled out from that album, that same feeling I had when I first listened to Jay Chou, in this respect, I think JJ is most worthy to be compared to our Jay :D

when i voted the poll, i was like, obviously Wang Lee Hom will score the highest vote.. i don't know may be they have been compared a various number of time.. but i think jay's biggest rival is wang lee hom, currently. I don't say they have the same style or anything, but due to the talents they both have and it's hard for us not to compare them..
JJ stands the second chance in my opinion... he is equally talented with his own unique style, but i feel JJ hasn't developed the maturity as Jay and Lee Hom did..
As for David Tao, i personally don't like his music. i don;t know why. I've tried to listen to his songs a couple of times, but it just doesn't click. People say that David gives a lot of influence and inspirations for Lee Hom, but i just can't find any similarities..
Even though Andy Lau is really famous and stuff but i personally think that he is not up to standard to be compared with Jay.. Haha.. no offense.
Michael Guang Liang does compositions himself, but i think his songs are too simple and it's just the different genre with Jay's overall style..
For Jerry, Vic, and Kangta, they simply don't stand the chance. No offense.
I think AShin from Mayday could actually stand the chance to be compared to Jay too.. But he belongs to a group so probably he doesn't count? Hehe..

i voted Lee Hom but besides him....Rain will do!!
Ya...i agree with u...beside Lee Hom, Rain can be compared to Jay Chou...but what i can say, they just can be compared but they can beat Jay as No.1 Asian Male Singer...Jay still the best to me, ever!!!

Hmmm, in my opinion, Lee Hom has more similarties in terms of the music portion with Jay. JJ is pretty good, the next closest to Lee Hom. As time goes when he matures, I'm sure his music will be even as good as Lee Hom or Jay. David Tao does have some genres similar to Jay for the more chinese oriental types. But overall he will be ranked after JJ.
Guang Liang composes more ballads. He does not write as many genres as Jay. But of course his ballads are great too. Andy Lau seldom composes, and if he does he composes ballads. He's a great singer, but in music talent wise, I think he loses to Jay.
I don't know why Jerry Yan and Vic Chou is up there too, their style is totally different from Jay.
For those who said Kangta can't sing/compose, I'm not really going to praise him because I'm his fan. But here's some information about him. He does sing live quite well (do check out vids from Youtube), also he does compose songs right from his H.O.T. days. He wrote songs for BoA, Fly To The Sky etc. Even his song Agape (which he wrote) was mistaken as Jay's new song. He's a producer too.
But comparing him with Jay is different. He's more to the ballads/jazz genre so he lost my vote in this poll.

i think that jay and leehom are probably the most comparable. they are very talented and successful composers in the music industry. although jay and leehom produce their own style of music, there are similarities between them.
in addition, both of them are also a bit involved in the movie industry as well. they have taken part in a few movies and their roles are about the same.. though jay may have a bigger part [in initial d].
as for the other singers listed.. i dont' really think that they could be compared to jay.. except for maybe david tao and jj lin? im not trying to be mean or anything.. but they dont seem to be as good and jay.. and jj lin doesn't compose his own songs, does he?

i think Wang lee hom. hehe cuz i think his music is quite good la.. but sometimes seems like he has the same creation in the music like the way Jay did such as sound of antique chinese instrument. (Lee hom fans don't be angry ^^) it's just one of my view. for others like JJ Lin, i haven't listen to his songs la.. and David Tao, his song is ok la.. but still can't compare to my Jay ^^ hehe (no offense).

Wow! Leehom is leading the pack! I voted for him too! There are others that I wanted to vote for such as DT and JJ Lin, because I respect them for composing and producing their own works.
But Leehom got my vote because he is so so darn talented and he is proud to be a Chinese, I just admire the way his "Chink-out" theme manages to merge the western R&B elements with the Chinese Oriental music. Respect!

jj lin doesn't compose his own songs, does he?
He does, he has composed all his songs since his debut with his very first album.
I think JJ deserves more credit for his work. I'm surprised so many people don't think he's close to Jay's level or lacks maturity as an artist, but from each to their own :worry:
Other than JJ and Leehom, I don't care for the rest on the list. David Tao is a fair comparision, he's a talented man, but I don't like him personally, so I don't like comparing the two. Furthermore, I think David Tao's music is too safe, kind of like the feeling I get from Lee Hom, though I'd say Lee Hom takes more risks and is more experimental.
As for Guang Liang, he has the most boring repitoire of songs and thus, doesn't vary his style or range often enough to even be compared to Jay Chou. Most of his songs sound the same, are made in the same constant range and tempo, it's very uninteresting. Jay is amazing because he experiments with his voice and his compositions constantly, always challenging himself and his fans with what new innovations and experiments he makes with his music.
Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Andy Lau, and Kangta... to be compared to our President Chou? I don't think they're all deserving or well-suited to be compared to Jay :3

I don't know why people like to compare Jay with Lee Hom b/c I personally think that Jay is overall, way better than lee hom.

Jay and Lee Hom are the pioneers of modern chinese music... however, both of them approach it in their own way.. Both are also well versed in classical music... I first recognised lee hom when his 'gong zhuan' MV debut way back... it was also before i even knew who jay was =P I watched the interview leehom did with CNN. Lee Hom seems have have more exposure to different types of music growing up in New York.

Each of these artistes are so different! Perhaps a few of them may share similar musical styles like Jay, LeeHom and David Tao, as frequently lumped together by the media as the three R&B Kings but seriously, you can still manage to tell all 3 of them apart in terms of the type of music they make.
Personally, I can't stand it when people say that who who who is like Jay or Jay is like who who who. It just annoys me. Maybe bcos I like Jay so much:-) so I can't stand having others say that he resembles or is comparable to another. Jay is just in a class of his own.
But if I really had to choose, I would choose David Tao bcos I have high regard for him. So if the question is turned around and Jay is compared to him, that will be a big compliment to Jay. :-)

well, I couldn't decide between Leehom and JJ, but I chose Leehom cuz I knew about him before I heard any of JJ's songs.
however, it's pretty obvious that F4 members didn't have much talent. not just through this survey (they're the only ones without votes so far), but also through their music. -___-. goodness, Jerry and Vic were just pretty to look at. they're models, not musicians.

I don't know why people like to compare Jay with Lee Hom b/c I personally think that Jay is overall, way better than lee hom.
That's all a matter of person opinion. Asking such a question is like asking, I don't know why people like Jay, he can't sing.
Anyway, I personally see more similarities between David and Leehom than either have with Jay. I think all three are extremely talented in their own ways, and comparing one to Jay doesn't make the other any less talented.
But if I had to choose, I would think David Tao. I think David and Jay have a more similar tone. Whereas Leehom sometimes sings with a lower voice. Also, I feel as if David and Jay have similar ambitions. David has expressed his desire to pursue directing after a certain number of albums, while Jay has expressed his desire to put his music on hold for his movies.
David Tao has a unique type of music, I really like it. But that's just me. I enjoy how he manages to add a few "weird" songs into his albums, that might not be a commercial success, but really evokes the thought process of the listener.
Guang Liang. I liked his "Tong Hua" song but everything after that sounded like a continuation of "Tong Hua" and bored me.
JJ Lin is a talented composer as well, however I don't fancy his voice. It's a bit too kiddish for me. However, I do like him, and he's still one of my favorite artists.

It was quite hard to decide between Lee Hom and David, but I chose Lee Hom in the end. Reason is that I like Lee Hom's songs more than David's, and I heard of him before David too. In terms of singing, both of them have the range, but I prefer Lee Hom's voice, somehow.
Other than the two of them, I think Kang Ta is a talented musician as well. I got to know only recently, but I found out that he first became a singer when he was like sixteen or something. He can play piano, composes his songs and has a really nice voice that can reach high notes. I was quite surprised to learn that he is actually very popular in Korea, China and many other countries, cos I didn't even know that he existed before. =P He's got 3 solo albums, and some of his songs are good.
JJ -- I like some of his songs, but that's about it. I personally don't like his voice, somehow it's just not steady and powerful enough for my liking.
Guang Liang's Tong Hua and Yue Ding are nice at first when you listen to them, but his songs get boring after a few listens.
As for Vic and Jerry -- let's just say that music isn't their forte. There was this very short period of time when I used to like F4 quite a bit, but after a while I realised that they just aren't good enough as singers.
But still, in the end Jay is still the best. :D

it was hard to choose among lee hom, david tao and JJ lin.all could be compared with jay, cause all of them are so talented and creative. their style of music is unique and special.
but after much thoughts, i think lee hom is the best choice. =)
guang liang has a nice voice and works hard, but his works and songs is of different type from jay, it would be unfair to compare them.
andy lau, jerry yan, vic chou and kangta don't really write their own songs, so can't compare them to jay either.

I say David Tao..
If Jay Chou is to be compared to ther singers, their singling styles should be different.. In this case, David Tao also composes his own song.. Lee Hom is a good choice too but he dances as well, so it's abit strange to compare..
The rest.. "Bu Pei".. Haha.. No offence to their fans.. I mean, their singing sty;es are totally different..
But in the end, Jay is still No.1.. >.<

None.
I don't like Jay to be compared to anybody simply because i think he is the best. In my eyes anyway.
Plus Jay always says.. Music is very personal and the person the singer should be competing with is his or herself. Not with others. Music-making isn't a battle anyway.. It's about doing what you like.. and what your fans like :D That's what i think anyway ^__^

Lee Hom is like Jay's rival. He sings pretty good, but as good as Jay of course. If Jay ever retires, Lee Hom will replace Jay's place as the top singer in Asian.
