I absolutely love this album. It's seriously wearing out my iPod.
Snow Patrol can be considered alternative rock, but with this latest album of theirs, it's hard to classify actually. I listened to their previous album after this one (Songs for Polar Bears), and wasn't nearly as impressed. But the first thought I had when I heard them was Coldplay. And definitely, if you like Coldplay you'll like Snow Patrol. So alternative rock with a bit of pop?
The lyrics are gorgeous:
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love
And I don't know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness
(Make This Last Forever)
And the music/orchestration are of epic proportions - have this very large theatrical feel to them. The song that's getting much airplay right now is Chasing Cars, which I can listen to 10 times a day (you can hear it on their official website). I love how the verses are simply 3-4 words per line, perfectly delivered with just the right amount of emotions without sounding too monotone.
Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads
I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own
Other favorite songs:
Track 6 - You Could Be Happy - I like the use of the musical box, it has a very childlike quality to it. The lyrics remind of someone suffering from puppy love.
Track 7 - Make This Go On Forever - A song about a couple obviously going through a bad breakup, I love the build-up in the chorus.
Track 8 - Set The Fire To The Third Bar - I keep on forgetting to find the lyrics to this song, it's hard to make out what it's about. The unique thing about it is it's a duet. But instead of the usual, guy sings, girl sings, they sing together...etc...they sing the entire song together almost as one voice.
Track 11 - Finish Line - The token ballad for the album. The music is not really there. It's more ambient noise, but yet it still manages to have a melody that's quite haunting.
And of course Track 3 - Chasing Cars - as mentioned above.
Anyways, I'm not very good at doing "pro" reviews
I just wanted to get the first one up as an example, and this is an album I'm quite supportive of...
